"Tanto. You've just been recruited to the Ley Runner," Sai replied. He repeated the line for Ridley as he too exited the wall. "That appears to be everyone. First, we need a quick report - what'd you find there?"

"Cult base," Tanto said. "Apparently to something powerful. Killed follower just for saying name. Map and targets also." He listed off the map locations for Sai. "Prisoners and experiments. Dangerous and with varying powers."

Hiding behind a crate was a little roach. Not just any roach though. This roach was Jacques le Roache. He had many brothers and sisters throughout the world (his favorite brother being Pierre - whatever happened to him?), and he got the lucky ship that sent him to Dremmeur Sai. Such an amazing Drakken.
Jacques had been tailing Sai for quite a while now. He was fascinated by the man - his power and skill were amazing. I might be bestial. And gay. Except the idea of a relationship between a human and an insect was laughable. And disgusting. I merely admire this human. To the point of obsession. Which is bad, now that I think of it. But he couldn't help it - Sai was just amazing. Jacques couldn't do much more than stalk the man - he'd get stomped on if he attempted to get closer.
He watched Sai greet three new men. OH SWEET JESUS WHO IS THAT BEAUTIFUL DEMON? This wasn't to say that Jacques knew who Jesus was - he'd just picked up the human term and guessed what situation called for that particular phrase.
Fortunately for Tanto, Jacques was not looking at him. He was looking at Yarah. Tall, red, and handsome...cool and collected. Now THIS was an interesting demon. But what about Sai? Suddenly the demon-minor aimed his golden eyes at the roach. Jacques was paralyzed with fear and awe. The demon didn't even look at him in disgust! ...who's Sai?
Jacques had found a new person to stalk.
Poor Yarah.

Nothing was happening, so Tanto kicked in the door to the Leyrunner and said...nothing. But of course.
He headed to his room and closed the door, waiting for takeoff.

Tanto flew across the room, a disturbingly frequent occurrence in the recent past.
"Good thing we don't leave the heavier defenses on while it's drydocked," Sai commented. He mumbled something under his breath.

Yarah nodded. "Which is my room? And is there anything I need to know about this ship? I would not like to be thrown around like Tanto."

"We'll board momentarily. Higher-ups, particularly Ma'krogeyna, think we're onto something with that list of places. They decided that our aquatic superiority makes the Indian Ocean one the best one to check out, simply on the principal that it doesn't interfere with anyone we care about offending, it's convenient, and the cultists were interested in it. Do you have any what the symbols were tracking, though?"

Tanto shook his head. "Only stuck around for a minute. Got locations, and that's about it."

"Hmm." Yarah put a hand to his chin while he thought back on the map he'd seen before. "My apologies, I don't know what they were tracking." He crossed his arms. "I only remember the locations, just like Tanto."

"Well, nothing to do but find out what it is then. It'll probably take a while to locate whatever anomaly they're indicating..." Sai mused. "Ah, well. Not much to do but get to it. We'll have some probes scouting ahead, hopefully. Crew quarters are just past the, uh, staging area, then past the armory. Have fun. I'm going to get the rest of the crew moving."

Edward Ridley made a Grunt Of Agreement and headed for his quarters, passing through the mentioned parts of the ship and seeking a place to unwind. He didn't like relinquishing control to Corhir but it was an unavoidable part of his fighting style. Afterwards, it always took a little time to refocus himself, to remember which parts of him were his and which were hers.
Also, those Subjects had been highly disturbing. Surely executing them was a good for all involved - they couldn't be used against him or his allies, and they wouldn't live as failures to be thrown away or used by their masters whenever it was convenient....
Corhir interjected.

Yarah was left with Tanto. All by themselves. Fuuuuuuun.
After a few minutes of silence, Yarah said, "You fought well back there." It was weird for Yarah to make small talk, but he thought it would help build teamwork. He respected the ancient demon and hoped that they might be able to form some sort of friendship. Maybe.
And perhaps if things went well, he could get Tanto to help him find that mystery person.

Tanto looked at Yarah with no expression for the better part of two minutes. If the younger demon had felt awkward before, he was positively Bayer-like after that. Eventually, the huge old demon rumbled, "You...were not bad yourself. I believe we can form a working team wherein I do not have to watch over you and the others as a guardian. Do not presume to be my equal, but you are better than some I have seen."
He shifted a bit, and Yarah realized that while the Demon-Major had no expression, tone, or stance to read, Tanto was somewhat awkward as well.

If Tanto thought he could make Yarah feel awkward in any way, he was sadly mistaken. "I'm glad that you are open to the idea of working together." After another minute of silence, he added, "I lack in fighting skills. Would you be willing to be training partners? I would like to improve my skills and I feel that having you as a sparring partner will be beneficial."
One thing Yarah learned quickly was that Tanto was extremely arrogant (though he had good reason). Yarah realized he would have to suck up to the larger demon quite often to keep the partnership calm. His wide berth of social skills rival my own it seems. Perhaps the two were more similar than Yarah originally thought.

Tanto rumbled deep in his chest, as he did when he thought. "I am not a remedial martial instructor. My style is formed from three millenia worth of training." He hefted his gigantic sword easily and with a familiar air.
After looking into the blade for a while, he said, "However, I do not want to see the only healer at our team's disposal dispatched in combat by a novice warrior. Perhaps there is something I can do to teach you."
