The stallion smiled timidly, then shook his head gently. "I- I don't really go back." And he didn't really have any desire too. "Though I guess if I needed to, I could." A fast twitter of his wings as though he suddenly remembered them, feathers shivering. It was as though he'd just remembered them. Or just remembered he had them and she didn't. "You stay here? All the time...?"

The mare gave a small nod in reply. "Pretty much. Although I've started venturing out more as Ive gotten older. Still, I generally meet back up with everyone by the evening." Nalani was quite attached to her family really. Perhaps one day she might venture out on her own for a season or two, but she wasn't very inclined to do so at the moment. "Don't you get lonely being on your own so much?"

Kratos shook his head gently at the question. "No. Well, n- no... not really." He might have been lonely, if he could ever settle himself down long enough to be with other Kirin. An absence of others was preferable. And it saved him the probability of a coronary, not that he exactly realized it. For him, it was uncomfortable around others, and there was always the possibility they'd turn. "So you've never been away from this part of forest?" He looked at her curiously, almost like he'd just eaten a bug. She had to be joking. There was a huge world out there, and she'd never seen it?

Nalani shook her head lightly. "Not really. Why? Doesn't most forest look basically the same?" She truly was clueless as to all of the other aspects that nature had to offer. Mountains, marsh, beaches, ocean, etc... all foreign concepts to her. She really did need to venture out more.

The stallion shook his head again, glancing up to the top of the trees. "This forest is younger. The trees are large, but not so large. And the ground isn't as packed. Good food here probably most of the year." He seemed to be relaxing to a slight degree now that his mind had been given focus and direction. "Not like the sweet-fruits further south though." Casting his muzzle toward the stream, he inhaled deeply. "And this is clean, cold. Probably up from the mountains."

"Mountains?" she questioned, titling her head a bit. "What are those? A special kind of tree that cleans water?" Of course, that wouldn't necessarily make it cold. Hmm, such a mysterious stranger. I suppose in his travels he's seen many interesting things. Perhaps he can tell me about them.

Kratos grinned sheepishly. "It's not exactly like that. A moutain is sort of like a giant rock that grows up, reaching toward the sky. They're so big that you can see them from far away. Sometimes the colder ones, the ones with white tops-... they have streams coming off them, like this one." He thought it might have something to do with that cold white stuff. Smoh, he'd heard it called once? And aice. Hmm, that didn't seem right... of course, he'd been too busy looking at the fangs to concentrate on the words.

Nalani's eyes widened at the image of a giant rock in mind. "Wow, that's incredible," she remarked, turning her gaze upstream. "So there's a mountain over that way? Is it visible from the air?" This red and white stranger certainly was making her curious.

"You can see everything from the air." Kratos paused, frowning slightly. "Well, almost everything. If it's big enough. You can definitely see mountains." He followed her gaze, but all that greeted them was a curve in the stream and dense leaf-cover. "I'm not sure if that's where this comes from, but I'm willing to bet it does. The ones that go ocean-to-ocean are too salty. Not at all like this."

"Wow..." she replied softly, her eyes still watching the water. After a moment though Nalani returned her gaze to Kratos with a smile. "You're quite lucky to be able to fly. I can't even imagine how breath-taking everything must be from the air." The mare looked at his wings in admiration once more, giving a small nod to herself at some thought or another.

As though remembering himself, Kratos tucked his wings tightly to his sides as though attempting to hide them. "It's not everything it's cracked up to be. It's just like being down here. Err, mostly, anyway." He flicked his tail nervously. Oh please ask about something else, look at something else. Keeping utterly still, he prayed silently as she looked him over.

"Why do you get all nervous whenever I look at your wings?" she asked suddenly, turning he gaze back to his face. The young mare may have been a bit naive, but she wasn't stupid. Nalani picked up on quite a bit when she wanted to, and this stranger was no exception.

Kratos frowned thoughtfully. What did he tell her? That they sat him apart, that it was always cloudchaser or free spirit (with a wink and a roll of the eyes) followed by an immediate bite or kick. It hardly ever hurt, but it stood as a stark reminder to how much he differed from these-... these-... well, his brothers and sisters that lacked. "It's just-... I've never really seen anybody else with them. And other Kirin don't seem to like them..." Though he never would have imagined it was for jealousy.

"Don't like them? But that's just silly!" she replied, finding the idea to be quite ridiculous. "I think they're incredible. I'll bet you the others were just jealous." That was the only logical explanation she could come up with. How could anyone else not find it awesome to be able to fly with the birds?

"Well, as long as they stopped showing it with their teeth..." Kratos sighed, hoping he hadn't said too much, but he had a feeling she wasn't going to drop it. "Anyway, it's over now." At least, for the time being. "You ought to go one day, you know? Just follow the stream up to its source."
