The Dollanganger (sp?) by V.C Andrews ends sadly, so I hear. I'm currently reading the first book, Flowers in the Attic. It's really good. I normally don't read books that don't have SOME sort of happy ending. But from what I've heard of the Dollanganger series, life really sucked for Cathy.

Aldous Huxley's Brave New World...sad ending, but the only one that is remotely acceptable.

My mother always told me love was a bullshit emotion that only fools and dreamers believed in... I read one called "The Gargoyle" It's about a patient in a burn ward who meets this woman who he things is schizophrenic. She tells him all about their past lives and whatnot and about different stories through the ages. Yes, it's romance, but not that gushy crap. Then never actually kiss or anything. They barely ever even touch, but it's a really sweet book. It's a sad ending, though. I mean, it has that little bit at the very end to explain things and make it not seem so bad, but it's still a really sad ending. A really good book, too. I don't read too much and I couldn't put it down. I'm thinking about reading it again. ...so she told me to be the fool with a dream...

Momo The Strange The Dollanganger (sp?) by V.C Andrews ends sadly, so I hear. I'm currently reading the first book, Flowers in the Attic. It's really good. I normally don't read books that don't have SOME sort of happy ending. But from what I've heard of the Dollanganger series, life really sucked for Cathy. I want so badly to read that series. I saw part of the movie for Flowers in the Attic but I can't find the book anywhere! My mom had the whole set but we lost it in a flood. I've been to countless bookstores and flea markets but I CANNOT FIND IT ANYWHERE!!!!!!!

Gone With The Wind is a classic not-so-happy ending book. Little Women, too, unless you'd prefer useless ugly men. Ugh. Anyway. Err. She's Come Undone, by Wally Lamb, is pretty much unhappy from beginning to end. I warn you, though, it is a bit of a trip. Makes you feel like you're going nuts, too. Herr.

Um... The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan? It has a little bit of romance, but not a happy ending at all. I don't really want to spoil any of it for people who haven't read it, so I'll just say that there were some points while I read it that I was actually starting to cry because it was just so sad and unhappy. I guess I'm a very emotional person.
