Valelldia
The river up ahead is about to turn a corner, and there's a nice eddy Ani could trap the shiny in if she were clever.

Ani grumbled, thinking whether or not to give up. She didn't even know what it was, but it called to her, she needed it...but at what cost? She reached down and grabbed a stick, twirling her hair with the other, then stuck the stick through to hold it in place. Once her hair was out of her face, she sprinted ahead and hopped from the shore to a large rock. Checking her balance, she hopped to the next one, getting closer to the whirling water. "Now what?...if only I had a net...or maybe I could...but they're really hers...she'd forgive me..."

"Ani!...Anezka!...What on earth is going on?" Leshya'e called from the wagon. "Come back...I'm not in the mood to go losing you."

"Just keep going, I'll catch up...It'll only take a minute...I hope..." The last two words mumbled to only herself. Balancing herself, she tugged her boot off and rolled up her pants. "Sorry mum..." Ani then began to rip her tights off, a pair a knitted fishnet tights she had borrowed from Leshya'e. She then spread it out like a barrier between two stones, hoping to catch the shiny object in it as it passed.

[Mene is too lazy to log into Val.]

Anezka's resourcefulness is rewarded, and the shiny thing is trapped in her makeshift net, hers to keep and enjoy. The fishnet stockings, on the other hand, would have to be replaced somehow.

[Is Photobucket working for you? It won't let me log in...oh well...I've saved it to my computer though]

Anezka held the rune tightly as she grabbed her boot and waded back to the shore. "Mum!...Val!...You won't believe it!" She hopped awkwardly, trying to put her boot back on. "I found one!...I found another piece!" Holding the rune in her hand, so tightly that her knuckles went white, she jogged to catch up with Varekai.

Another piece? Piece of what?...OH! "The Tri-Rune?" Leshya'e tugged on the reins and slowed the wagon a bit, allowing Anezka to jump up safely. Before she could say another thing, she was pulled tightly into a bear hug. "Oh mum...I can't believe it!...I wish Twinket were here...She'd be so pleased!" Shy smiled and hugged Ani back, then rushed her inside the wagon, "Be careful, put it in a safe place...we don't want you losing it." She smiled and let out a content sigh. Snapping the reins, the wagon picked up speed again, rolling down the road behind the others.

((Hope it's still okay to post.))

Mekah's keen eyes caught the commotion up ahead with some interest. He leaned forward a little, keeping the reigns firmly in his hands as he tried to catch what was going on. There appeared to be a girl in the water. As the caravan slowed he watched her run to jump back on her van, something she seemed rather excited about in her hand.

He raised an eyebrow and turned to the little grasshopper on his shoulder as if he might give him some answer. They would have to ask at the next stop.

Valelldia grinds the caravan to a halt as she sees commotion ahead. She jumps down from her wagon seat for a closer look.

In the deepest, widest part of the river are scattered the remains of a gypsy wagon. The bottom had been torn to pieces, and various effects go floating down the river. The thin cries of an ancient man float over to the caravan's ears.

"Help!" he exclaims. "I can't swim! Have mercy on an old man!" He clings for dear life to his destroyed wagon.

Zak hauled the horses to a stop as to avoid a sudden collision with the wagon ahead which had halted in response to something farther up. while he was occupied with swearing like a mule driver (horses aren't mules but they appreciate a good swearing at in times of crisis) Rana who had been on the look out for suspicious characters saw one stranded in the river. thinking quick that if he was suspicious he would be better off being barked at from shore. she jumped off the wagon ran along the bank and went in the shallow water a bit upstream of the hanging figure and started barking.
"no no no stupid dog what are you.."Zak started to say before seeing the figure in the water, "oh crud." he grabbed a coil of rope and followed his dog to the river.
walking in the shallows on the edge of the river Rana saw that the old guy person was hooked onto a snag of stuff. as Rana was preparing to jump in and unsnag the oldguy person for further barking, Zak caught up to her. he was tying a piece of a large stick to the end of the rope
"if he's drowning he'll panic and take you down with him" he muttered to Rana who thought, yay speckle guy has a plan
"SIR, SIR, I AM GOING TO SEND YOU A ROPE" shouted zak over the roar of the river. gods and little fishes I hope this works, he thought, throwing the floating end into the current to get it to the old guy.
"WE'RE GOING TO SWING YOU INTO THE SHORE" I hope this works Ihopethisworks please please pleaseplease.

Their wagon being towards the middle section of the caravan, once the commotion up front began Tamlin had sufficient time to call and alarm to the wagons behind to hold up. Baptiste skillfully reining in the horses to a stop. It didn't take long for her to notice Zak's lumbering figure yelling frantically while running towards to river bank. Once the rope was thrown to the poor old man it took Tamlin even less time to realize the situation and take off running, calling back over her shoulder to Baptiste, "Oh dear, oh dear! Grab the blankets and hot water, call the others for help too! I'll be back!" her words tumbling out of her mouth in her haste to reach and help the drowning man.

Tamlin ran to where Zak was and saw that he had his head about him, even with the infernal barking of the dog running to and fro at the bank. She noted he had the situation in hand with the rope and hoped the old man had the sense to take it since to approach him in such a state would mean certain doom for both parties."Sir! Sir! do not panic! Grab the rope! Zak will get you ashore safe!" "Haul him out and get him dry, Baptiste is bringing blankets" She stated as she began undoing her skirts and removing the outer layer of heavy clothing "I'm going to go save what can be saved, yell out to me if there is anything amiss" Tamlin instructed Zak as she wadded into the water and began swimming with strong strokes towards to quickly dispersing possessions of the unfortunate man.

"whu, what are you..." Zak chanced a look over from guiding the rope, saw a flutter of underclothes, nearly dropped the rope, clamped his eyes shut then remembered he needed to see to see what he was doing. where did she learn to swim? people die in rivers all the time! Zak thought as he played out the rope in the current around the snags. gods and little fishes or was it gods of little fishes? please pleasepleaseplease why would fish care? or gods of fishes? or are they fish-gods the image of a multi-fin-armed herring headed dual tailed merman with a beatific appearance appeared in his head for second before being shook off as a stupid idea for a god.

Rana sat down on the bank and gave up on barking, for now, speckle guy, you got problems. she thought. but can we hurry this up? at all? just a little?

"Whoa!" Veshengo pulled back on the reins, stood up and leaned over, grabbing the edge of his wagons roof. "Wha-..." Before he even had a chance to ask what had caused the pile-up, a flash of colors passed by, yelling out instructions. Jumping down, he steadied Skellick and then took off after her. Having no extraneous clothing to remove, he dove in and began grabbing anything he could see, bowls and books and the odd oil lamp. The poor man, what a horrible accident! I hope he'll be alright.

"Ani!...Ani, get out here!" Leshya'e called to her daughter as she scrambled to remove her bulky, layered skirt. "What? What's wrong?" Anezka ducked out of the wagon door, "Not again!..." She grumbled as she pulled her boots off, "I guess it's going to be one of those days...damp!" She hopped off the wagon and began to wade in, trying to catch whatever she could, utilizing her makeshift net from earlier.

Leshya'e tugged off her shoes and went over towards the large and imposing new member of the caravan. Realizing he was strong enough for the task, she decided not to bother him with any talking. She slowly waded into the water, reaching what would be the half-way point between the old man and the shore. She held her arms out to him, "Hold on tight...He's going to pull you in...Keep holding on as long as you can, and I'll be right here to help you the rest of the way."

Valelldia watches as her family rushes in to help the ailing gypsy. She has a feeling they'd be keeping him for a while.

A sharp call pierces the air, making the hairs on her forearms bristle.

Val briskly walks back to Honeyed Aria and tugs on Rojiza's skirt. "Rojiza. There's a Banya bird trapped in the wagon in the river. I shouldn't have to ask you risk yourself like this, but frightened creatures can be vicious--you alone can calm it."

"Oh bless you, bless you!" calls the gypsy man, grabbing onto the rope with a surprising amount of strength. Gypsies are usually surprising like that. He wraps the end of the rope around his hand and starts hauling himself toward the shore.

He hopes the other gypsies can save some of his things. They're valuable and sentimental, and he'd hate to lose them.

Once she had reached the center of the river Tamlin treaded water briefly and took in her surroundings. She saw various boxes and supplies and some blankets still afloat; noticed thankfully that the old man was being duly helped out of the river. Then all of a sudden she heard the desperate whinnying of the horse doing its best to free its reins from being tangled in the mess of stuff so that it could make for the shore.

Taking a deep breath Tamlin shoot underwater and pulled her way through the current to the horse. Once re-appearing above the surface she began calling out to the beast in soothing voice, trying to calm it enough so she could approach it to untangle the poor beast. Gradually she succeeded in calming it and she swam up next to it continuing her inane dialogue. Patting it gently along the mane with one hand she fumbled down the reins with the other finding where the tangle hand occurred. "aha! there you are you bloody little knot!"

Upon finding the problem she submerged once more to directly tackle undoing the knot. it was quite a mess and only after many tries of coming up for more air was she finally able to work it free. "There we are!" she exclaimed, quite exhausted by this point. Tamlin held on tightly to the horses mane and set about making their way back to the embankment.

((Mene is a lazy Mene.))
Miraculously the horse manages not to kick or otherwise seriously injure his savior. Once he realizes he's free he makes a break for the shore, hauling Tamlin with him. Hopefully Tamlin's a strong enough swimmer to swim against the current and back to the bank, or else she'd need saving next.
