Though I have to wonder how the place turns a profit selling rare, obscure, non-commercially-viable music in physical format at fire sale prices.

Going back today to pick my dad up a Shada CD. My dad, the whitest white nerdy man ever, listen to R&B and Soul. I will obviously find something else to purchase. Something kvlt. Very black metal kvlt.

ashlander_alpha ScorchMaster16 ashlander_alpha Warrior of Metal Apparently I'm being dragged along to Mayhem Fest. I can't believe I'm being forced to see Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, and Behemoth. Oh no! We'll probably leave before Manson. Don't forget b*****b for a Cowboy, Killbitch Engage, Trivium (couldn't think of anything)...Trivium could = Trivial or Metallica clone. Genius!Hey, I know KSE are too mainstream for most metal heads, but as somebody who has seen all three of those bands live I can attest to the fact the Killswitch are a hell of a lot better on stage than the other two.

Something kvlt. Very black metal kvlt. Well, soul or Motown I could grasp. It's mellow, generally upbeat, easy listening stuff. R&B, not so much, unless he's got some secreted fantasy where he's a smooooooooth ladies' man. Ohhhhhhh yeeeeaaaaahhh, baby.
Also, I've found myself developing more of an appreciation for BM as of late. Though mostly in hybridized forms with production that doesn't sound like the recording devices were covered in peanut butter.
@Volvy: They crossed the line when they core-ized Holy Diver. talk2hand

It gives me lulz. xd Yus! Though I can appreciate a lot of BM with crappy production as well, because the actual compositions just strike the right chord for me. What kind exactly do you mean, btw? How clean? Like, Nokturnal Mortum (borderline), or like... I dunno, Vintersorg or something like that? Mnyeh, I dunno. Despite all the crap I hear about them, I just looooooooooove their clean vocals... I at least give them some credit for "My Curse" and maybe "Arms of Sorrow".

"Between the velvet liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiineeeeeeeeeeees" That part is just ridiculously unneeded. I want to cover that song though but I still suck at playing guitar though I can do the main riff.

I don't know her dad, but middle-aged white guys listening to R&B is amusing no matter who the specific person in question is.
Well, lemme clarify what I mean. Less-than-perfect production is something I can live with...to an extent. Something like this is as lo-fi as I'm willing to get before being annoyed. But what human ears could possibly enjoy something like Burzum or early Bathory boggles my mind. As for what's been on my BM/BM-ish playlist--early Samael, Stormlord, Lord Belial, Ancient Wisdom, ...and Oceans, Necrophobic, Dissection, Vinterland, and early Katatonia (which could be considered black/doom--at least on the basis of tracks like this and the "Jhva Elohim Meth" EP). Not a very kvlt lineup, I know.
I haven't got a problem with clean vox, but I've developed a gag reflex to core vox and recycled, processed Gothenburg together or in combination.

Hah, they may not be kvlt, but I've still somehow managed to not have heard of them. sweatdrop Probably because I have few resources to find good BM I'd like... Yeah, I really like his clean vocals, but the harsh vocals are just... ugh... Like Scorch said, when he gets to the breakdown in Holy Diver and goes into the screeching, crappy, harsh vocals he uses, it just pisses me off ever time and ruins it. Maybe if he only used the clean vocals, they'd actually be a good band...

Really? surprised Well, if I had to pick one to recommend (and mind you, it's a tough choice), I'd definitely look into Dissection if I were you. I've been a fan of theirs for a while, but I've found myself listening to them more often than usual lately. The songs Night's Blood and Thorns of Crimson Death ******** own.
Actually, I see an analogue in another popular band. Though they're still not something I'd ever pay money for, I think Disturbed's latest album is an improvement. They shed most of the utter fail (nu-metal) in favor of a approach that almost sounds like heavy metal. Almost. I still don't think they're great, or even good, but at least hearing their music doesn't make me want to put a roofing hammer through their lead's forehead now. If KsE opted to drop the core and go heavy metal, they'd earn a little more respect.

I listened to Disturbed's new album and I was like "Whoa they're changing or something." Maybe they're sick of being scourges of metal or something. Me personally I liked Disturbed more than all the other nu-metal bands because well...they solo (yeah I know it's always solos with you Scorch, whatever). But that really sets them apart from everyone else because from what I heard from the other nu-metal they don't.

But then the only ways I get music are iTunes and FYE. Which don't really carry anything kvlt. Or not even that kvlt; there's no Krabathor, no King Crimson, no Orodruin... Argh. Ah well. Guess I'll hope to go to a good record store someday... THANK YOU!!! I have to tell you, it's nice to hear that from someone other than me. I've always really disliked Disturbed. Yet they're REALLY popular in my area. They're like THE "heavy" band for kids around here. A lot of my friends are obsessed with them. And whenever I say I don't like Disturved at all, they're all like "What!?" cuz they expect me to like them cuz I'm the guy with the "crazy metal". And I could never before explain why the sound of Disturbed annoyed me so much... Until this last week. It was... Mmm... I wanna say Tuesday. I was in the car, and their song "The Darkness" comes on. But I don't know it's them. I listen to the beginning, and I'm like "This actually isn't half bad!". Then, the vocals came in. And in my mind I was like "Uuuuuuuugh...". And that was when I figured it out: the sound of that guy's voice pisses me off. Of course, I hurriedly texted my friend Cameron, who is obsessed with Disturbed, and was finally able to give a justification and explanation of why I disliked them. And yes, the song I heard from their new album was kinda good... Aside from that idiotic singing.

I mostly just tune him out and listen to the music itself. I'm kinda good at that. Though I have a friend who use to spam Disturbed because he was going through this drama BS and he was all like "Oh man Disturbed like gets my life." and I'm like "Okay..." I mean like I said they're definitely the best out of the nu-metal bunch and for that they get my respect. Just sometimes they get annoying. If I had to sum up my feelings for Disturbed it would be I can listen to them but I don't think I could sit for down for a whole album and listen to them. I could listen to them after skipping around a couple times but not just all the way through.
