Her heart was pounding, she was frightened as if she had seen the thing herself. She was not a very brave lion, that was for sure. She couldn't face danger in the face and spit on it, no she cowered. She was lady, and ladies cowered. She shook ever so slightly, it might have been possible for him to feel it if he was trying to.
"I can help you face it." She said softly. No way did she want to, but if it would help him she'd bare it. She'd do it for him.

He felt her shake as she lay next to him. In a kind of protective manner his paw moved over her shoulders to try to give her comfort. He was a little caught off guard by the shaking, but figured the idea of what he remembered scared her. It certainly scared him.
"Thank you Ethel..." He gave a little squeeze, then continued on. "When I was a cub...after the accident of falling on my head...lions that had been staying with us to wait out a sand storm went crazy...I hid behind a few large rocks as they killed...killed my parents..."
Tears started to fall once more as he continued, keeping himself strong for the moment. "I was a teen but the sight of those males filled me with terror...they spotted me...would've killed me too if I hadn't ran off...That is why my paws were burned. I did stop to eat and drink. But I barely stopped to sleep...I never walked...I ran. Then I finally forgot...my subconscious buried it deep...or so I thought..."
Once that had been said, he rested his head on the sand as he cried silently, though his shoulders shook visibly.

She jumped a little when his paw circled her, it was a rather unexpected action but she welcomed it. How odd it seemed to her that he was comforting her when he was the grieving one.
"How terrible..." She said softly, the thought of that happening to her own family. "But I am here now, and with me I bring the protection of a pride." With this she said confidently. "My family will welcome you with open hearts. You can stay with us." She blushed a little at the thought of her dad thinking she was bringing home a mate... no... he was a friend. Wasn't he?
She sighed and rubbed her head against his once more. "We can help each other you know..." Her voice was soft, almost dream-like.

As he gained control over his tears once more, finally feeling as if they'd stopped for good, he used one big paw to wipe his eyes, then looked at her again. It may have seemed strange that he'd put his paw over her, but he'd felt her shiver and the instinct to protect had kicked in.
"You...you'd really take me in..? But I'm such a scattered lion..." He looked down for a moment, then looked her in the eye again. Remembering the past had indeed helped him grieve in a better way and brought back memories...but he'd always be forgetful to an extent. "I don't want to be a...hassle.."

Feeling that he was finally under control, Ethel easily slipped out of his grasp and sat a little ways away from him, letting him have his own personal space. With a soft smile and a shake of her head she looked to him, "Are you kidding? You be a hassle? Try having four younger siblings, Two brothers with children and a mother who loves children..."
She grinned, her tail flicked at the tip. "You would never be a hassle." With a nod of her head she dismissed any further argument.

Watches as she moves away, simply figuring he'd gotten too close with the embrace. He wanted to apologize, but just listened as she spoke to him. Hearing her, he could not help but crack a smile, the tears dry by now.
"Well I'm glad I wouldn't be any trouble. I need very little as far as food and water go. I could sleep out near boulders if that helped. No need to move around to accomodate me." He seemed back to his happier self now.

"You shall eat just as much as you like! Just like the rest of us do! If you are to be part of our pride you are to be treated like a member as everyone else is!" She said defensively. "There is no need to exclude yourself! There is always plenty of food and more then enough room in our cave for you." Nodding she gave him a sharp look, "You would do more good if you would agree with these terms..." She may have seemed to be fierce, but she wasn't about to let him bush himself out.
"Now. About the forrest. It isn't much further away..." She lifted herself up easily and began walking in the direction they were headed.

He simply listened quietly as she spoke, nodding in agreement when needed. She really was a tough lioness. He certainly knew never to get on her bad side. Though the way she took charge did cause a smile to form. Even though she was yelling, he could tell she was making him more included.
"Alright. I'll live in the den if I'm allowed by your Father and eat what I need to survive. I won't argue." He smiled more brightly as he followed her toward the forest. "Oh! I think I see it Ethel!" He skittered off, taking to a slight run as trees began growing more and more numerous on the horizon until the forest was fully in front of them. He stopped just before entering so he could follow her.
