My sister is getting her Doctorate in Psychology.

Words are words to me. Content makes interest, not font.

Technically, I shouldn't exist either. Only Alec.

Older Sister One: Pharmacist
Older Sister Two: Psychiatrist
Older Sister Three (aka Alec xd ): Off to be a Arial Tactician at Annapolis

And me: undecided future, most likely going off to hide in the back of a book store til I own it in downtown Olrando.

I want that mirror. Just for a minute or two. I wanna see if it says what I think it'll say.

to be honest...I always read stuff on this site with enlarged text...I usually prefer it that way and it seems easier to read that way.

So theoretically, if I were to write an intellectual book, I should print it in large font to open it to a new audience who will expect it to be non-intellectual.

Could this explain why I seem to be more interested in reading books with smaller font, i enjoy classics much more than other books

I've just finished a bachelor of arts degree in creative and professional writing. Last year I studied publishing and typesetting in one of my subjects. Font type and size is very important.

A lot of publishers, magazines, newspapers - basically anyone accepting open submissions - will have a house style for submissions. Investigate if there is a house style for submissions before you submit anything for publication - if your submission doesn't match house style, it most likely won't be read at all. With the sheer number of submissions places get, an easy way to shortlist them is to instantly reject those which don't match house style. Standard/most common house style is 12 point Times New Roman (or similar serif font), double spaced. This is what my university uses for assignments because it makes it easy for lecturers to read them all. But house styles can vary enormously, so read the submission criteria first.

Serif fonts are much better for long texts. The "serifs" are the little lines at the tops and bottoms of the letters. These create horizontal lines across the page which guide the eye along the line, making it easier to read.

As a general rule of thumb (you can get away with it if you know what you're doing) - Don't mix serif and sans serif (non serif) fonts on the same page! If you are using a different font for headings, for example, use a font from the same font family as your main body text. If aesthetics are not a key feature or function of the piece, put headings in the same font as the body text, but in a different size, perhaps bold or italic.
