“Thank you.” He gathered in return the fruits in his mouth, careful not to crush them despite not using the stems. Of course, many of these were irremediably ruined in the process. He released them and among the jam, a couple of these rolled near the mongoose. He didn’t pay attention to them and hissed softly.
“Perhaps he’s just finished his lunch...”

She nods. "Maybe. Or maybe they really do only eat snakes." She looks around, trying to see any more snake dens. "I'm not that great at catching snakes, but I can catch lizards and frogs. I wonder if he'll eat those." Spotting a lizard on a log nearby, Jumping Frog nudges her brother, pointing with her muzzle and whispering. "Think you can snag it if I herd it toward you?" She knew good and well she didn't need help catching it, but as Smoke Beetle wanted to tame the mongoose, Jumping Frog wasn't about to exclude her brother from all the action required to do so.

Tilting his head, Smoke noticed the tiny reptile. That should do. “Of course I can snag it”, replied the foal in a whisper. He loved challenges. Slowly, as not to startle the lizard, he came on one end of the log and crouched. He was taking his time until his eyes were at the right level and his rear was wiggling playfully.

Silently, Jumping Frog watches her brother, making no movements so as to not startle the lizard. However she does prepare herself to snag it, should the creature make a break for it.

Smoke's eyes did not leave the small reptile at all. He stayed very silent and immobile, then he made his move and attempted to grab his prey. However, he was still clumsy, and the lizard had enough time to see him, dodge him, and run to the other side of the log. "Awwww snap."

"I'll herd him toward you." She speaks in little more then a whisper. Quietly, cautiously, Jumping Frog slowly moves around to the end of the log the lizard is sitting on. Staying far enough back that the little creature isn't prompted to skitter off. Jumping Frog watches Smoke Beetle, waiting for him to indicate his readiness.

After a short wait, Smoke nodded in silence. Afterwards, he made sure not to get his eyes off the crawling critter. Meanwhile, the mongoose had come back inside his hole, the intruders being too far to annoy him again.

Noting her brother's readiness, Jumping Frog walks toward the log, adjusting her direction to cut off the reptile's escape. The lizard, who's full attention is on the filly, runs right into Smoke Beetle's range.

Snap. Using all his speed and precision, Smoke caught the reptile by the tail. He couldn’t talk while holding it in fear of letting it go, but he nodded slowly to show his satisfaction. As he walked back in direction of the hole, the lizard was wriggling and struggling desperately. He didn't know yet many lizards were able to lose their tail on purpose to run away...

She watches her brother grab up the lizard by it's tail. Following close behind, Jumping Frog is just about to warn him, when the lizard drops to the ground, minus it's tail. Luckily, it landed on it's back, the fall leaving it dazed for a moment or two. Quickly, she darts forward, nearly running into Smoke Beetle, and snatches it up. Holding it firmly by it's body, she stands, but remains silent, not wanting to give the creature a second chance at escape. Her expression, though, clearly asked 'Now what?'

“Oh”, exclaimed Smoke, dropping a lifeless lump on the ground. Alright, lizards are officially more annoying than wasps, and maybe flies. With a movement of his head, he went back to his new mongoose buddy. “Drop it inside. He’ll be glad to have a free snack!” he said with an unhidden joy and a shaking tail.

Jumping Frog nods, following her brother to the hole. Before dropping the lizard in, she readjusts it in her mouth, trapping it's back legs between her teeth. A faintly audible crunch can be heard as she bites down on it's legs, rendering them useless. Then, lowering her head, she dangles it above the hole, trying to catch the mongooses attention before dropping the reptile. Seeing a fuzzy nose poke out, Jumping Frog drops the lizard, watching it drop into the hole. Quickly, the furry nose vanishes, it's owner darting after the snack.

Smoke’s face featured a large grin. “Thanks a lot! It’ll be less wary of us now.”
As a gesture of familiarity and affection, he bumped softly his sister’s shoulder scale with a laugh. “Thank you…”
He realized he did not tell his name, nor did he hear hers. His eyes widened. The foal said: “I don’t think I know your name yet! Mine’s Smoke Beetle.”
He teased her gently a bit more before she could reply. “You look like a fresh young shoot, or something. Is your name “Eaten-by-foxbuns”, or something like that?”

She grins, eying the hole, hoping the creature will fully show itself. "Your welcome." Because she's not really paying attention, her brother's nudge makes her stumble. While she regains her balance, he continues speaking, the words taking a moment to soak in. "Huh, your right.. I'm Jumping Frog." Having regained her footing, she grins again at her brother. "I think your fuzzy friend has accepted the piece offering." Jumping Frog points with her muzzle, out of the hole a black and yellow furry head appears.

“Jumping Frog.” As he repeated the name, he crouched, and without a warning, he jumped away playfully in a similar fashion as a toad. “Like this?” he asked right before falling head first in the mud. “Bleh!” One day, he will be able to do that, but without the part with the mud.
He shook his head. “Oh, yeah, the mongoose. I’ll take care of him, and once he’s friendly enough, I’ll bring him.” He didn’t look particularly preoccupied by his uncomfortable position, he simply spat more mud before resuming talking. “I’m sure he will remember you, you’ll be able to pet him.”
Smoke had that particular skill where he managed to appear completely unfazed at most times, no matter his current appearance. Being able to say almost anything with a straight face wasn’t however very useful when your rear was triumphantly sticking out of the mud.
Fortunately, the yellow critter didn't consider this amusing sight as a threat, and he kept watching the siblings.
