Ollen caught that wink and a wide smile spread across her face, "I have seen a few shipfish, some fishermen call the doll-fins," she paused, "Once I saw a man bucked over board and the shipfi-" suddenly here was a very large head in her vicinity.

"Scratch her?" Ollen looked to La a mixed expression spreading across her face, excitement and fear. Ollen stood to gain her balance and reached a had out slowly. She began to scratch lightly around one of the head knobs and looked again to La.

"Am..am I doing this right?"

Isonth rumbled mightily when Ollen started scratching, half-closing her eyes and opening her mouth to rumble even louder. Her eyes whirled deep blue, and she leaned heavily into Ollen’s touch. Lanamine, I like this one. She scratches well, and you keep looking at her like a Blue eyes a proddy Green. It is a pity she does not yet have a dragon, she went on, and La thumped her heavily on the flank.

Isonth, please don’t embarrass me.

Do not worry, Lanamine. I will not share your secrets with her. The words were accompanied with a note of mental unease; Isonth was not a dragon who was at-ease with speaking to others if it weren’t absolutely necessary. Shifting her head so that Ollen’s hands fell on her eyeridges instead of the base of her headknobs, she nudged Ollen’s stomach again, friendly as a month-old puppy. La shook her head. Whether Isonth was warming up to Ollen because of La’s own impression of the girl or whether Isonth was just in a friendly mood, it was nice.

“She’s absolutely thrilled with you. You’re doing fine,” she said. “What was that you were saying about shipfish?” she prompted, curious to hear the story Ollen had been telling before Isonth interrupted.

"Well, I am completely thrilled with her," Ollen shifted her feet in the sand so she would not topple over with the large green pushing. "Oh, well he was tossed overboard and two shipfish flanked him and kept him afloat, it was so wonderful. Many fisherman say they can talk, and there are people who are training them. I have never heard one speak, but I believe that it's possible."

"You're certainly friendly, Isonth," she caught her self, was she supposed to talk to someone's dragon? Well, what's done is done. She scratched in light circles around the beautiful green's eye ridges.

"Seacrafters always listen to shipfish, they know where the large schools are, and I've heard they can sense when a storm is coming."

"That's impressive," La said, shaking her head in wonder. "Really clever animals...you have to wonder about some of them, sometimes. So many clever beasts, not just the dragons."

You should show this one around the Weyr, and then have her scratch me some more, Isonth announced, drawing away from Ollen's scratches to nose her hair and neck before turning her head to La and butting her affectionately.

You never take this much of a shine to someone, Isonth. Especially if they don't have a dragon.

Well, this one might have a dragon some day, and you keep looking at her. It makes sense, Isonth said. La shook her head and hugged Isonth with a quiet sigh. Her dragon wasn't making much sense, but it might just be the sun and relief of not being itchy anymore. Speaking of which...

"I hate to do this to you, Ollen, but I really ought to be going. Isonth needs to be oiled, and I have some things I need to get done before evening." She grimaced apologetically and then held out a hand for Ollen to shake. "It was lovely meeting you."

Golly, she's wonderful! Ollen thought loudly as the green nosed around. She wondered if one day she would be thinking the same of her own dragon, she made a mental note to jot down questions she might have for La another time.

"Good to meet you," she shook La's hand firmly smiling, "I'll have questions for the next time we meet."

Ollen stepped back from La and Isonth giving them space to move around, " see you soon!" Ollen felt pleased, she got time in the ocean, and got to meet the interesting green and her rider. Were all dragons so friendly?

"I'll make sure to look for you the next time we come down to the ocean," La said with a smile, hefting the brush and heading out of the water to retrieve her clothes. "See you soon indeed! C'mon, Isonth, you need to be oiled!" Gathering everything up in a bundle, she waited for her dragon to haul herself out of the water and then started off up the beach.

I liked her very much, Lanamine.

I liked her too, Isonth. We'll have to go find her again.
