This whole conversation had flown into a territory he would rather much avoid, and the very idea it was coming from such a person made him feel that he made a mistake. Was he obligate to mate at his age, and was it now being seen as something of a bad point against himself that he was not looking? Was he being judged as abnormal and not perfectly fit by having the healthy mindset to be looking for someone? The very idea made him want to preen for a good hour just to quell the nervousness inside, as he had invested no ideas in mating. In fact, he liked avoiding the topic. It wasn’t to say he hadn’t once looked, but those that he had looked at when he was younger were taken now. He hardly even glanced at a female in the way of being mated to one since he graduated.
The only female now that came to mind was Clover, and he was sure the female hated him down to the core after their fight. Was she pure enough for him?
“Ah, I suppose I should be looking.” He didn’t want to ask Hollysong about Clover at the moment, as he wasn’t sure about the entire topic, but maybe if he talked with her, he could figure some things out without making her suspicious.
“..and thank you for the offer. I would hate to weaken our clan by intermingling with others. It would be a waste, and a disgrace. With today’s Sentinels being all for dying, it is becoming harder to know who is who now. If I find myself wondering, I will find you.” He would make sure to check with Hollysong to not only do a background check to see if she was worth mating with, but also to seek his approval. This Storyteller had the best judgment for these things after all.
Just when Sly felt he could pass on this conversation for a better topic, his heart raced even more, but not out of nervousness. The very mention of someone such as Hollysong to even mention the Elite took the air out of him, and he beamed at the idea. “Oh yes. I love my task, but if I could advance, I would give it as much of my all as I do my current position. I hope to prove myself to this clan by giving everything to improve it. I try not to be forward or presume too much, but if I could have the chance to be a member of the Elite, or prove my own worth to them, I would put all of my power and energies in showing what I am made of. I would spend all my seasons as a Hunter to prove this.” A Huntsmaster, while great, would only be seen to him as a step towards the Elite. That was his main and only goal, and the way that Sly spoke showed that it had been something he had thought about for a long time. Just thinking about it made him want to fly.

“Oh, oh… it’s somewhat refreshing to meet a young sentinel like yourself who clearly knows what he wants.” An Elite, huh? Yes, it seemed fitting for the austere shadow to have such high ambitions. It also pleased the older sentinel at how easily Sly seemed to reject the idea of a cross type mating and how he easily accepted the Storyteller’s offer… unlike some other fools he could think of…
“It’s a very competitive field but If you truly wish to follow the path of the Elite then let me warn you that a fitting mate is even more important. It’s a good thing you’re not rushing then. It will be a very important decision. But you seem like the type who has a good head and I’m sure you’ll succeed if you keep that mindset. I sincerely wish you all the best.” It’s all decided then. After Hollysong’s done with the union of Drywood and Willowbreeze, he will definitely take the time to ask around a few questions concerning the shadow Hunter.

Sly sleeked back down, bowing slightly. “Thank you.” He took everything back that he had thought about Hollysong. The male was a smart, bright, outstanding Sentinel that deserved his position. He was clearly a Sentinel that was well intelligent and observant. He felt it was fortunate for him to meet such a individual, and was glad for the chance. He hoped that this would mean future encounters, and hopefully more advice. Sly even hoped, deep down, that this was a turning point. The date that things started to get even better for him, and possibly put him on the track to becoming an Elite.
“Once again, it’s been an honor. I’ll take to hear the advice you have given me. I appreciate it.” And for once, Sly was genuinely thankful.

The last of the Hunter’s words sounded very much like a farewell to Hollysong’s ears. And that was rather regrettable, he thought. The Chestnut’s interest had been sparked but he also couldn’t help but admit this shadow was rather likeable in his own reserved way.
“As I said, the honor is mine.” And perhaps he meant it a little more this time. This was after all a potential Elite… He waited for a brief moment to see if the Sly would bring up another topic to continue the conversation but he there was a sort of feeling of conclusion in the air. Any further attempts to steal the Hunter’s time could be seen as entirely forceful if not just plain rude. It was time to leave it seemed.
“Well, Sly, I dare not steal any more of your precious time. Goodbye, young friend. I sincerely hope we’ll meet again.” The Storyteller nodded, opening his wings in a polite bow before turning to the silent shape of the Chirop. “Flut, on my back.”
And with a final booming hoot, the Chestnut Storyteller was up in the air and moving further and further away as he flew to meet his mate at their territory.

Sly nodded and returned the bow, his head swimming with new plans, new hopes, and fresh concerns. Where would he find a mate that would compliment him and also impress those that were judging him? Where did he even start looking for a mate, and more importantly, how did he exactly approach a potential mate once he found one? If he was to take Hollysong’s advice, he would have to start soon while the season was still right.
“Ah. It’s been the same. Thank you, and I hope to see you again soon. Goodbye.” Sly was a bit jumpy, not expecting so much today, and watching as the Storyteller took his companion and flew away into the distance. Sly stood on his branch, before looking around. “A mate?” Slightly confused and not feeling that spectacular by this new task, he turned about and flew off.
