Something in the pit of his stomach gives a bit of a twinge at the way she seems to dismiss Yuuto as if he is already a memory. Though, acknowledging what she has done with the last six years as none of his business, he deigns to keep it to himself.

He is sure he will like Matsuto, he tells her as he scoops the cucumber into the bowl and starts next separating the lettuce from its head to rinse it. He is, after all, a part of Baikou.

Hitsuga will....just ask that she be patient with him. Before now, he'd not really counted on playing the part of a father in his lifetime...

He falls silent for only a moment more before giving a single nod of his head. And, yes, maybe it may be for the best of they separate for a bit and tend their separate affairs. While he is fairly sure Eikou herself would not react badly seeing the two of them married now, there....

Her feelings of unease are not lost on him as he twists off the faucet and shakes the droplets out of the lettuce before setting it on the counter to give it a brief once-over for debris or wilted pieces.

Hitsuga thinks....things being what they are, that if there is anything Baikou feels they ought to discuss about the state of things, past, present or future, now may be the best time.

He sighs, wishing he could do or offer something that may help, but...

He cannot say that....he entirely agrees with how Baikou handled things, dropping her life and the people in it to come after him.

However... he continues, dropping the lettuce in the bowl after the cucumbers and abandoning the salad for the moment to sink into the chair across from her, one hand placing itself on hers. ...there is little that can be done for it now. And it does not change the fact that he cares a great deal for her. And is prepared to care for Matsuto as well.

His eyes look to the tabletop and then he frowns a bit. He's certainly one to talk, isn't he? Assuring Baikou the past can't be helped when he's done nothing but dwell on his own all this time. Forgive this one...

Small cautious tendrils of reassurance and apology prod gently at her mind

That didn't come out entirely how he'd meant it....

He was not trying to imply that she had merely abandoned her son or that Baikou and Matsuto entering his life was some sort of burden, he is sorry.

....maybe he really ought to stop talking, as it seems he's not saying much of any use tonight. confused Giving her hand a squeeze, he rises to return to preparing dinner.

He hesitates, looking back at her for a moment in thought, and then continues on his way back to the counter.

What he wants.... he begins. ....what he really wants, is for them to be happy. And what he is having a hard time deciding, at the moment, is where that goal can be best met.

"When things went sour....when I made us both sick....I lost everyone, you know?" he says quietly, not turning to look at her. There is no accusation in his voice, as if he were daring to try to apply this to her own situation...there is only a sad sort of reminiscing. Kitsuo and Eikou had been the only ones who had supported him. And....they continued to be his only real friends back home.

He has only been in Gaia for a month and some change and....Baikou, of all people, knows how flighty he is about letting people close enough to befriend. But the Porcelain here are very different from those back home. He's received more support and care from them in these past weeks than he has from his family and their childhood friends in years....

.....and it frightens him more than a bit that the thought has crossed his mind at times not to return to stay at all.

It may be for the best at they don't come to a decision now, he agrees. Whatever they decide, it will mean an upheaval of some sort in their lives. Perhaps it would be best to enjoy the tranquility while it lasts and take the time to sleep on it and discuss it for a couple days more, yes...?

....it occurs to him that, after this talk, being able to finish twenty-five bottles of gardenia-and-lilly perfume seems to be a small issue by comparison.

A few slices of onion join the cucumber and lettuce, followed by celery, and the chicken, cut into strips, goes in last as he fetches up a pair of forks to toss it all together.

....if HE will let HER...? he inquires, now finally turning to look at her with one brow cocked incredulously, though with amusement cracking through the pall of the previous mood. Call him crazy, but by his memory, Baikou is just as guilty of instigating.

Anyway...

Hitsuga is only asking. The sunsets here are lovely, is all. He thought maybe they might watch one together while he tries to think of how he's going to decorate wedding bottles.

....though if she'd rather stay in, he understands, he adds, fetching down two smaller bowls to separate the salad into and placing a fork in each.
