AHMETRock Oh, cooking and cooking well are two different things. IF you are far too rusty to navigate the kitchen, you need help. As for making lasagna or some sort of casserole (is that how you spell it?) I think I'll pass. I can cook eggs, I can stick something in the oven, I can boil pasta, etc. Cooking something should be seperate from having culinary abilities. You need to be able to at least be able to cook for youself for a short term basis. My father hasn't cooked in years but he definately knows how. Yes this is true. When I say "everyone should learn to cook" I just mean basic cooking, so like if they could cook chicken by themselves without help, or in the case of vegetarians maybe learn to make a stir fry without meat (I wonder how that'd taste...) and the example angel gave about recently getting divorced is so true, I mean you see it in movies all the time; the parents get divorced and the kids get left with their father that can't cook. Though you normally see that situation more if their Mother had just died and the father can't cook so they have to get a nanny; or the kids suddenly have to learn to cook.

I don't make anything complicated, like foie gras, but I can cook some damn good steaks.

`•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.Just be who you ωαηηα be... I don't know how to cook much but I know enough to not live off of microwave food... Especially since ours is kinda shot. xD I was never really allowed in the kitchen and my last cooking class was seriously in 8th grade. That would have been about 4 years ago. So do you really expect me to remember all that? >> We didn't even cook much.
Anyways, my mom has now demanded that I start cooking.. Thing is, how the hell am I suppose to know what to cook? =< We don't plan anything, just look in the pantry and snatch some things out. It would be nice if she would learn how to plan dinners.. And have all the ingredients. Most of the time we don't even have half of them.. >>;; She doesn't even help when I finally do cook.. Just says "read the box"... ._. >> Can I cook something that didn't come in a box? D= Half the food she cooks now, I should already know how to cook. My brother was cooking by the time he was 8... I was finally allowed to cook when I was 12.. ._.
D< Someone teach me dammit.
>> But yeah.. everyone really should know how to cook.. If the only thing you can make is heated up soup or ramen... Your in trouble xp Because.. o.O What happens when the microwave breaks? And you have no monies until next week.. Eh? >> I don't get how people can do that anyways ._.

It is important to learn to cook now, since gas prices are going up to you *really* want to spent all that money GOING to get food that is MORE expensive then food you cooked yourself? I think not.

Yush, I know you know how to cook. =o I know how to make hot dogs, fries, Chinese chicken fried rice and a few other things >> But yeah xp
And I just don't understand how people can constantly go out to eat all the time. My neighbors do that and they have practically brand new pots and pans hanging in the kitchen.. Not a scratch on them.. They even admit to going out to eat all the time.. =< I don't understand it. With the way my mom had been going out to eat lately, I was going insane because I just wanted to stay in and eat.. And at the same time, she is complaining about money..
Well gee, lets see. Which would be cheaper? Eating a Hamburger Helper for what? 5$ >> that can last you about 3 more meals depending on how much you eat.. Or go out to eat and pay about 13$ per a meal for something that will only last you one meal because even if you take it home.. You will probably forget about it in the back of the fridge >>
This isn't rocket science people. .-.

I prefer the toaster over over the microwave. Hopefully, the majority of people that eat ramen a lot do it because they're wapanese freaks, actually somehow connected to the culture, or are just poor and struggling through college or something to that effect.
Anyways, unless it is pretty intensive, I don't have a problem making it. You want me to cook for you, however, and you have to deal with the fact it might not taste that great.

Buhahahahaha! You make it sound so simple!
Not everyone can cook...I am living proof!!!
Example 1: While making Beef...something everyone in my cooking class make theirs with no issues, but me, Oh I somehow managed to turn it PINK not a red pink...I'm talking about a BRIGHT PINK!!!
Not even my dog would eat it rofl
Example 2: Chocolate chip cookies, something you can make when your like five right?...WRONG I still fail at making chocolate chip cookies..they either are wayyy to squidgy, flowery or burnt.
I was taught through school and by my mum...and I still am a disaster in the kitchen...I can make noodles and pasta...that's my limit.
Basically what I'm saying is that cooking is a gift some people have it and some dont...not much can change that. ^^;;

Basically what I'm saying is that cooking is a gift some people have it and some dont...not much can change that. ^^;; Cooking can actually be very simple if given the right recipe. Plus there're some easy thing to make that don't take any skills. If you can cook pasta then you could probably make things such as potatoes that all you really have to do is boil water and put the potatoes in. Besides there're many things you can make with pasta, especially since there're so many different kinds of pasta. As for chocolate chip cookies... I usually bake them using the freezer dough but once I decided to bake it from scratch and they turned out way to mushy and I'm normally good at baking; so maybe you just need to try different recipes. Sometimes a recipe that is way simple for one person is really complex for another, one of the many mysteries of cooking. My older sister claims that she can't cook but since she practices she's found that there are simple things she can cook.

Learn cooking? Me? I'll get married and my wife will cook for me...
Well, that's at least what I thought back in highschool. But the girl I intend to marry once both of us finished uni isn't exactly the housewife-type and also has absolutely no talent for cooking, so I had to change my plans there.
I taught myself how to cook a month after I moved to my own place, as I got tired of pizza (and started to run out of money). I'm not really good at it, but my roommate has decided to teach me some, so that might change soon hopefully.

I should learn how to really cook so I don't have to live off of sammiches and EasyMac for the rest of my life. My problem is I'm afraid of the stove though sweatdrop
in my school district they only teach cooking in 7th grade for only a few classes. I think all we made were pancakes, pretzels, and pizza.

I know how to cook, because my mom insisted on teaching me. But I seriously fail at it. Just not my thing. I drop things, break things, burn things, etc. I pretty much fail in the kitchen. The only things I can make well are french toast, roasted chicken, and soup.
I've been blessed with a boyfriend who can cook magnificently though, and he wishes to make it his career. So yay!
As for cooking ed. classes, I know they had one at my high school, but the program was abolished because of budget cuts. That probably is a big reason why you don't see classes like that much anymore in the public school system.

:/ I do know how to cook and bake... Just sometimes it doesn't turn out well. xD My oven's heating element is uneven and it bakes too high so it's pretty hard to bake something till it's no longer doughy and not be burnt. I've done it atleast twice not burning anything in the oven but if I put in anything according to the directions at the time for it to get done it'll be plenty crispy so we need to pretty much guesstimate on time and how long it'll be done. I may not beable to cook as well as my sister but I can cook and it's not as bad as some of the things my brother has made... >.> He's tried making jello cake but he didn't put holes in the cake before pouring the jello liquid in it and then there was the time when he tried to make my grandma's applesauce cake but failed ( atleast mastered that : D ) Atleast he tried ^^'
I rarely spent time in the kitchen myself when I was younger but for school projects we had to bake things. I remember baking sugar cookies from scratch with cookie cutters for a Christmas thing at Elementary school. Then there was the home-ec class that I took in 9th grade where we had to bake and cook. Learned some pretty good things like making pizza, cookies, eggs, and other things which were helpful. :3
Trying is better than just saying " I don't know how". Because by trying you can learn from mistakes and still accomplish anything. The same with cooking. Especially since yeah not all of cooking is going to be easy but some of it is and really one does need to know how to cook to survive. Especially if they have no one else in their life to do it for them. Though relying on someone else to do the cooking isn't the best thing either. I knew someone who'd wake up his mom or had tried to wake up his wife in the middle of the night just so that he could get them to make a sandwhich for him. He wouldn't do it himself :/
