Thali frowned and muttered something about 'stupid older brothers who ruin everything' and 'I really hate you.'. The elf sighed, and looked to Kat. "Kat, this is my older brother, Adrian. I'm sorry I never got to introducing you before--I think he was in the healing quarters the same time you were. Maybe you met there."
Ben was looking at Adrian, and frowning. "I thought you said Davian was your only sibling." He said.
"The only sibling I'll willingly acknowledge." Thali said frowning at Adrian. "Besides, Davian's my only real sibling."
Adrian seemed to ignore them--he was busy staring at Kat. "That's where I've seen you before." He muttered. "You were shorter back then." He put an arm around Thali's shoulders. "I see you've met my baby sister." He said. "Hope she's not giving you any trouble."

"Oh...riiight...the healing quarters," Kat said a bit quietly. She could hardly recall what had happened her first day in Lynwood. It actually embarrassed her to think about her first visit to Lynwood, since she had been injured at the time. Her pride was one of the strongest aspects of her personality, and she hated for people to have such a bad first impression of her.
When Adrian commented on her height, she laughed quietly and said, "right...I think I've grown all of three inches since then." To his comment on Thali giving her trouble, Kat shook her head. "No. Not since the incident with...er...Vate."

"You're much prettier now." Adrian complimented. "Now that you're not.." He frowned slightly. "I always liked that guy." He said. "He caused trouble? Or did my baby sister cause trouble for him?" He asked.
Thali glared up at him. "He caused the trouble." She said. If there was one thing she hated--it was bringing up the past. She also hated being a foot shorter than her brother. That was just annoying. "Are you going to stay here and tease me all morning?" She demanded. "I have a name you know--and it's not 'baby sister'."
Adrian chuckled. "Alright, Thali." He said, before turning to Kat. "Want to go to lunch with me?" He asked.

Kat frowned at Adrian's comment. Was that supposed to be a compliment? Her eyes bulged momentarily when he said 'now that you're not...'
"Now that I'm not what?!" she demanded. And he liked Vate?! How could anyone have always liked Vate? He'd been incredibly self-centered back when she'd met him, though she'd heard that he'd changed just a bit since then.
And what of being prettier now?! Her pride flared - just as he asked her out to lunch. All her thoughts slammed to a halt like an 18-wheeler colliding with the side of a mountain. "....what?" was all she could manage as she blinked in shock.

Thali sighed, and had to resist facepalming. She looked from Adrian to Kat, and though she hated him--she didn't hate him enough to let him ruin his chances with her friend. She could tell he liked her--he liked her a lot. Kat was probably the first girl he'd ever liked. Poor guy. Despite being older than Thali, he was much less experienced.
"Um.. You know, for sandwiches and Dr. Pepper?" Adrian asked, looking confused. He'd obviously never done this sort of thing before--and it had Thali snickering.

Kat's frustration completely dissipated when he said 'Dr. Pepper.' The look on Thali's face went completely unnoticed. "Seriously?!" she gasped, trying to keep herself from squealing. "I love Dr. Pepper!"
Indeed, the way to Kat's heart just might be through her stomach. "Oh, and we could get BLT's!" His statement from earlier was entirely forgotten. Now she was just imagining the crisp maple bacon. Too bad lunch was still several hours away.

Thali face palmed. Imagine having two teachers that thought only about food. She looked at Ben and rolled her eyes. Ben shrugged, and put a finger to his mouth. "Shh!" He said, with a grin.
"Really?" Adrian was delighted. "Me too!" He silently started wishing lunch was sooner. "BLTs?" He asked. "What are those? Are they good?"

Kat gaped at his question. "What....are BLT's?" She turned to Thali and nearly squeaked, "where has he been, in a closet?!"
"Of course they're good! They're bacon, lettuce and tomatoes, usually with mayonnaise, but I don't like too much mayonnaise..." She made a face when she said 'mayonnaise', as if the very thought of too much mayonnaise could ruin the sandwich. "And I know a place that has the best BLT's. They toast the bread and everything!"

Thali shook her head. "Just in Lynwood." She muttered. "Close enough, though." She smiled and turned to stick her tongue out at her husband.
Ben sighed. "They are good." He told Adrian with a smile. "You'll like them." He nodded, to reassure his wife's brother, before turning to Thali. "You should go get ready for class." He said pointedly. "Aren't you guys studying Norse Mythologies this month?"
Thali frowned, the class didn't start for another hour. Then she realized what Ben meant. "Right. I'll see you two later then." She said with a cheerful wave.
Ben gave a relieved sigh when she left. "You guys go have the hour to yourselves now." He said. "I have to go prepare my pop quiz." He gave a wicked grin.

Kat blinked, puzzled by Ben's behavior. Then she suddenly realized what he was doing. She almost panicked. A whole hour?! Oh dear.
"Oh...ok...see you guys later."
She managed a friendly smile and wave to her friend and her husband as they went off down the hall. Then she glanced towards Adrian, trying to think of what to say, or do.
"Um...I need to...set up for my first class. They're playing Capture the Flag."

Thali was quick to notice that Ben was following her. "Why'd you make me leave?" She demanded in a whisper. "I was having fun!" She whined. Her husband rolled his eyes.
"Just because we're not bothering them doesn't mean we can't have fun." Ben teased. "Come on. Show me what you're doing with your class."
That wasn't Thali's idea of fun--but it worked.
"I'll help." Adrian offered quickly. If it took Kat an hour to set Capture the Flag up, she probably could use the assistance. He smiled at her. "That man with my sister--he's her husband, isn't he?" He asked.

Kat was about to shove the door to the gym open when she heard Adrian's question. She was so surprised that her hand slipped off the handle and her shoulder bumped into the closed door.
"Who, Ben?" Her dark brown eyes were wide with shock. "Yeah, that's her husband. Why, you'd never met him?!" She shoved the door open, this time with her hip, so that she could watch him for a reply while she backed into the gym, holding the door open for him.

Adrian blinked, and gave Kat a concerned look. "No, I'd never met him. Thali and I aren't especially close--we don't get along too well. One of the reasons I tried for this job was to be closer to her--and maybe become more friendly towards her. She doesn't seem very happy about it."
He honestly looked bothered by this. "I try to hide it--but she is my little sister. Even if she doesn't want to be.." He followed her through the door.

"Oh..." Kat's brow creased with sympathy and a sad look came into her eyes. "I'm sorry. My siblings and I have been pretty close, at least since our parents died." She kicked herself mentally as soon as she said that - saying that she was close to her siblings wasn't going to make him feel any better.
"Maybe once you guys spend some more time together, she'll see you're a nice guy and she'll like seeing you." She gave him a reassuring smile. Ever the optimist - that was Kat.

Adrian brightened. "Yeah, maybe." He said, with a smile. "Maybe when she realizes i care about her--and that I'm not like our parents.. Then maybe she'll acknowledge me as her brother." He looked to Kat. "Maybe we should set up for your class? Can I stay to watch?" He asked, with a slight tilt of his head.
"I don't have a class until noon." He explained. "It'll be my first solo class--I'm pretty nervous."
