Firestorm snorted. "Obviously you don't see all the same birds I do. Maybe been hanging upside down with bats too long hurt your head if you don't know what an eagle or hawk is even." He whickered.
He tossed his head with a stupid grin as she accepted. This should be amusing. Shinoma could certainly talk big - or disparage the thrill of the fall - but he would see how she stood - or fell- to the challenge.
As she flew up to the top of the falls, the spray of the water was a thick mist that clung to her, the roaring of the rushing water filled her ears. The rocks beneath the water was hard to make out at first - the water was white it was so agitated. But looking closer, it seemed to be a relatively vertical drop. And it was a long way down.

A thrill ran through her; maybe this was a challenge. She wouldn't yet admit that to Firestorm, he would be just unbearable if she did so, but this height and the knowing that she was to drop like a stone from here into the water below made her heart race a little faster.
Shinoma kicked at the rocks, feeling the water flowing over her cloven hooves. It was now or never, for if she paused to long he would think her afraid - and that would never do. She ran forwards, snapping open her wings and sailing from the edge, before angling her body down and closing her smoky wings.
Gravity took hold and she plummeted, the wind whistling in her face and making her eyes water. Closer..closer. The body of water at the base of the fall was mere yard below and she snapped her wings open, the shock of halting her fall making her gasp. She landed none too elegantly in the water, going under for a moment, then emerging, spitting out water, and pushing her way to the bank.

Firestorm stood poised at the bottom, just at the bank besides the cloud of mist that the waterfall kicked up. HE had this stupid grin on his face as he craned his neck up to watch the slender kalona gaze down, down, down the vertical drop. He knew that feeling. The thudding of his heart in his chest, that twinge of fear as he prepared himself to plummet. It was what made him feel alive. And then, as he fell, fighting that overpowerering urge to snap his wings open, even if the gravity of the fall and the speed he was traveling might hurt them.
He neighed triumphantly as he watched her take the plunge, falling with dizzying speed that he knew must feel even faster for her. And then, at the last moment, breaking her fall so that she didn't dive too deeply into the trecherous waters.
He lifted his tail proudly and high-stepped over to greet her at the shore, that grin still plastered there.
"See?! See! Did you feel it? The thrill of the plummet? As the water is rushing up at you?"

Shinoma snorted as she left the river, blowing water out of her nose. 'All that water rushing up my damn nose yes,' she said, determined to be as belligerent as ever. And then she laughed.
'Fine. I will admit to it being a slight rush. But you still have to admit to it being bloody dangerous. Neither of us are foals any more, so even if we would once admit to being looked after by our families, those days are long since gone.'
She felt herself shiver and she moved into the sunlight, opening her wispy edged wings to catch the warming rays.

Firestorm's heart quickened its pace as he laughed along with her.
"One of the many perils." He teased in response to her comment about the water up hernose.
He rolled his shoulders as she commented about the danger involved. Firestorm knew that the maneuver was risky. He had visaulized missing the depths and crashing against the sharp rocks. Or not being able to break his fall and being swept down by the roaring river. It was always a success or deadly failure. He had honestly never considered the third option - humiliating injury. He couldn't keep the look of distaste from his face as he imagined having to crawl back to Balrog broken and bloody, expecting his family to take care of him like a helpless foal. That would be... intolerable. He wanted to LIVE, prove that his family that there was so much more out there than just the safety of the grazing lands. Life like that was boring.
But then, he caught himself staring at Shinoma as she stepped, dripping wet from her plunge, into the sunlight. The way the rays shone through her misty wings. He shook his head, surprised at himself, but he didn't draw his eyes away.
"No. My family will not care for me like a helpless foal any longer." He responded resolutely. "They have forgotten how to live. The wonders of the land outside our home."

She gave a cough, the water having gotten further than it should, and raised a brow.
'Yes, nose water is damn dangerous.' she shook her head at Firestorm, wondering at the expressions that passed across his face. Especially the look that appeared now. She gave herself a swift shake, like an overly large dog, folding her wings away as she did so.
'Then maybe you'll rethink reckless acts, rush or no rush.' she smirked, before stepping right up to him, her eyes catching his.
'What is it you're staring at bird?'

Firestorm didn't back down at the mare's advancements. He held her eyes for a moment, letting a devil-may-care smirk play over his face before responding. "Oh, nothing much. Just a strong-headed young mare soaked to the bone."
He gave his own wings a final flick, sending remnant droplets that had clung to the feathers flying. "So. Tell me, batty. Now that you're all growed up, what do YOU do for a thrill?"
She had met his challenge. He wasn't going to back down.

'That amuses you does it?' Shinoma raised a brow, an expression of mischief on her face.
'Would you like to be dunked back in the river so I can be just as amused as well? Bird-brain..' she laughed, flicking her tail as she did so. Of course, if they hadn't become what only she would describe as 'friends', then she'd do so without asking, and push him under the water until he expired..but he was. It was quite a delicious thought to have though.
She ducked away from the spray he sent flying, pulling a face at him for doing so.
'I hunt, there is nothing better than tracking and killing your prey, especially if it's something heavier, or a horned or antlered beast. Taking down a creature that put up a fight without taking injury yourself. It shows your skill..' she looked at him.
'Though I'm sure you'd be queasy at the sight of blood.'

Firestorm grinned recklessly. "Maybe it does. " He responded, unabashed and unashamed. "But... I must commend your nerve, Shinoma." he flicked his tail.
"And I am hardly one to balk at danger or blood." He snorted. "Did I hesitate when we chased down a rabbit? And since then I have grown. I've thrown more than one hungry cougar off the cliffs of our territory."
"You met my challenge, and i will not squelch on my end if you need me to prove it to you! Lead the way!"

'I know you must, but I'm sure it came out painfully, complimenting a 'mist-bat', or whatever else it was you called me.' Shinoma laughed, adding softly. 'Birdbrain..'
She looked at him, memories coming back as if they were from yesterday. 'Oh I seem to recall I was the only one who ate the rabbit. And grown yes, but I'm not sure if your bloodlust has. But I guess we shall see eh?'
She turned, mental gears clicking away as she mapped out where there were in regards to her favourite hunting grounds. There was sometimes a small herd of deer she recalled that grazed further down where the mountains turned into a valley and she cantered away from him, taking to the wing, flying a distance from him and gracefully turning, coming back to hover above him.
'Let's go then.'

Firestorm laughed with a shake of his head. But this time, he didn't retort to her playful insult.
Instead, he did puff up as she incinuated his possibly weak stomach. "I did taste some of our conquest last time, if you remember." He persisted. Granted, it had just tasted... off to him. He knew that it was not something he was meant to eat. But he could respect Shinoma and the thrill of the hunt was so different. It was like fighting off the cougars from the territory, but without having to wait for them... it was playing the offensive instead of the defensive.
"Lead the way, Mistbat." He grinned.

Shinoma snorted at his assertion that he'd tasted it..after all, tasting wasn't the same as enjoying, not at all. She could stop and argue the semantics even further..or carry on winging her way with him in tow to test him properly.
---------------
Some time later, when following and tracking the traces and marks that the deer had left behind had resulted in finding and killing a deer, Shinoma stood over the cooling carcass and looked at Firestorm with a challenging smile.
'So, did you have fun?'

Firestorm stood proudly over the doe that they had brought down in tandem. His chest was heaving with the exertion and the thrill of the hunt. Shinoma was right, it was very different from the defensive attacks on predators in their territory. It was amazingly exciting: finding the animal, tracking it down, and then striking quickly, with deadly force.
"Exhiliarting!" Firestorm responded enthusiastically.
Still, however, it did not precisely smell... appetizing. But he did lean down, nuding the limp carcass towards the mare. "For you." He offered in as charming a way as he could, considering the circumstances.

'Not thrilling enough to eat it though.' Shinoma commented. There was inward bristling at that, he could be such a good predator! But he never enjoyed the fruits of the hunt, and she had yet to understand why. It would anger her more if he was a Kalona, but this was mostly frustrating her now, for she could reluctantly admit that she was starting to enjoy his company.
'Thank you.' she replied, probably surprising him with not only the first sign of manners she had ever shown around him, but the sincerity of her words. She bent and tore at the deer, her nose and mouth quickly becoming coated in still warm blood. Shinoma straightened, moving to him and streaking the side of his face with the deer blood.
'If you will not eat, then you shall at least show that you're a hunter..' she smiled slyly.
'You don't like the taste do you?' she asked swiftly, looking at him intently.

"It isn't the thrill that keeps me from eating it." Firestorm admitted, with a note of regret in his voice. Seeing the light in her eyes, seeing how she savored the taste, it almost made Firestorm wish he COULD enjoy this pleasure with her. But to him... it just tasted mushy... metallic and stomach-churning. It was hard to chew and harder to swallow.
But he could see HER enjoy it. See her expression, and that in and of itself was a way to enjoy this bounty.
When she thanked him, he felt his heart beat quicker, and a smile found his face.
And when she approached, her muzzle soaked in blood, he did not pull back. She was strong. The strength that his father claimed to be, and this blood was a badge of that. It was so much more personal than the removed, rocky death that often met the cougars who came into their territory. It was... exhilirating. Instead, Firestorm nuzzled her right back, letting the mark of victory paint his own face. "While the flavor does not excite my tongue as it does yours, I think that watching you savor this victory is as delicious as the meat that you taste." I can be a powerful hunter, Shinoma." He paused, for once, that ever-present confidence balking. "If it is by your side."
