Aphismet felt rather hurried with the soup after that blushing, awkward thank you he'd offered. He small bowl drained itself fully after a few more moments, and the white-haired man put his spoon down to wait for the waitress' return. In the meantime, he could watch the window and the view outside, or he could watch Alex in all her pretty-hairdo, gorgeous-dress glory. It was rather obvious what he (or anyone) would pick.
The brown-eyed chef smiled at the praise, blushing slightly still and shrugging a shoulder. "Ah, it's kinda weird how I ended up here; it's all Beauregard's doing, actually. He flew in here and caused some damage so I had to work as a busboy to pay it off, and then I was hired as a prep cook and then time passed and like I said, I just kind of fell up through the ranks when positions opened; lucky timing." The blush was gone now, replaced with fond memories as the man glanced at the kitchen doors. "So like, two or three years now? Probably two. A-as for looking dashing, ah-... I d-don't know about that." One pale hand lifted to run through white hair, a nervous habit. At least he'd managed to keep his eyes locked onto hers as he spoke, instead of darting them down like he kept wanting to do!
"Ohhhh, god." Aphi laughed at Alex's subsequent questions, rolling his eyes and sitting back in his chair. "Aww man did they EVER give me a hard time. Not with the teasing, they were rather supportive, but MAN. Shopping for this outfit was like-... like some kind of nightmare." And Aphismet was NOT about to admit that there was photographic evidence of this nightmare, definitely not! "And yes I do cook at home, I like to cook quite a lot. Here I make the same stuff over and over, and while it's still fun to get to do that, it's much more fun at home to make whatever I want to. ...Why so nervous about that little question?" Aphi asked with a soft smirk, tilting his head. He'd been talking about himself way too much, and he wanted to try and turn the tables... B-but he had no idea what to ask!
"I see you've enjoyed the soup!" Suzy suddenly interjected as she approached, smiling at the two patrons. "Allow me to take these bowls away? I've brought out your third course; lemon and mango sorbet to clear the palate for the main dish that will be coming next. Here are water glasses as well, and I will take your leftover wines-... a new one will be brought out shortly." Everything was switched onto and off of the trolley, and then Suzy extricated herself quickly to leave the two alone.
"Ah... Wow, I never knew that felt like such a whirlwind. Oh! Uhm... Ah." Aphismet had thought of a question to ask, but then realized it sounded rather... awkward? Prying? Embarrassing? Well, he'd made too much of a verbal show of it now, he HAD to ask something. "S-so I was only wondering, since you were talking about giving a hard time about tonight and all, uh... D-do you do this often? Dates, I mean? J-just that if you did then Zul and whoever probably doesn't ah, give you much of a hard time. Right? You're so pretty and outgoing and fun that you probably get asked out a lot... Ah, I mean-... Mh." Again, red to his ears, Aphismet spooned half the small ball of lemon sorbet into his mouth to prevent more words from tumbling out of there.

Curiosity lit her eyes, followed by a mute type of wonder at Aphismet's story. "That has got to be one of the single most unique methods of obtaining a job I've ever heard." Laughter followed, but it was gentle, not at all meant in a teasing manner. "That's wonderful. I'd say it's karma more than luck - look at all you've done, Aphi. You deserve that break, to enjoy yourself in what you do." Her gaze momentarily followed his towards the doors, but it didn't hold as much meaning to her as it did him; she could only surmise. "It makes me happy to know that. It looks like they take good care of you here. And now I want to meet Beauregard more than ever!"
She watched him this time as his dark eyes rolled and he leaned back; much more a comfortable gesture than usual, and he looked mighty attractive in that comfort. More casual and less uncertain. The return question actually caught her off guard, and more than that - did he just smirk at her? The woman's cheeks seemed to be a permanent shade of soft garnet at this rate, green eyes lowering demurely. "My social graces are limited," she replied with a light smile before Suzy returned, blessedly saving her from explaining she couldn't tell how far down her throat her foot was.
The waitress was just that - a whirlwind, and Alex could only blink in amazement as the contents of their table changed. "No kidding," she grinned in reply to Aphismet's surprise. "How many meals and sub-meals and post-meals are there? This is amazing." She was truly awed by the restaurant and how this was all a standard fare! She wasn't even sure what to call this now! "A palattizer," she mused out loud, her attention returning to Aphismet as he posed another question to her.
And what a question it was! And that blush. Why did it have to be so damn endearing? If there was room on his side of the table, she would have dragged her chair over there just to be able to hug him (and make the situation worse, but that was beside the point). "No," she replied as he started to eat, her smile gentle. "This is my first. College, and work...I don't know, maybe I've just associated with guys that weren't very nice. Certainly no one like you." Green eyes lowered again, observing the food but not really seeing it. "Believe me, it was a warzone in my house tonight. I almost didn't make it because I thought I might have to put my brother out of his misery...but I can do that anytime. This is my first date, and I wasn't going to miss it on his account."
Her mind was neatly omitting the compliments, giving her date a playful glance. "Thank you, Aphi, but I'll let you in on a secret," she leaned forward, a friendly grin in place, "I don't dress up. Ever. So," she leaned back again, "all that you see here, no one else gets to. Oh god." She put one hand over half her face, which was heating up again. "You could say I did this just for you...which, um, means I think I did well. Wi-with all you just said."
Alex didn't think for a second he could think those kind things of her as she was normally dressed or how she normally acted even, attesting the compliments to her attempts at looking like she wasn't all dirt and grit all the time. She took a few cooling bites of the palattizer, doing very well by remembering his mentioning of Chloe and not asking if he did the date-scene too. Instead, she gave him a near-shy smile, instead speaking softly, "Thank you, Aphi...that was really nice. One of the nicest things I think anyone has said to me."

Aphismet, by some miraculous explosion of awareness he didn't normally possess, noticed that Alex's talk all seemed to point to her thinking that he meant she was pretty TONIGHT. When he'd really meant ALL THE TIME. Add to this the shock of hearing that Alex simply never had dated before, not even once! AND that she'd never dressed up for anyone else!
...Was it really alright for Aphismet to believe that maybe, just maybe, Alex was really treating him as m-more than just a friend? A real, honest-to-goodness potential b-... bo-...
Okay, he was getting a little ahead of himself. Blushing just as dark as Alex was at this point, the chef chuckled lightly, clearing his throat as he finished the last of the mango sorbet. "I can't believe no one asked you out before. You must indeed have only met idiots so far." Another chuckle, and this time accompanied by that nervous hand-through-hair gesture. "I'm so incredibly flattered you agreed to this, then. And you dressed up for me! It-... Don't get me wrong," Aphi clarified, raising a hand and looking sheepishly serious (if such a thing were possible), "you're always pretty, but this whole... it... You dress up incredibly well," he concluded with a shy smile. "And while this is VERY gorgeous and, uhh... a-attractive... I have to say that tanktop and jeans is just as attractive because you look so cute and comfortable in it."
Suzy's giggle was unmistakable as she approached to take the empty palate-cleansers away, replacing them with the Main Dish. She'd over-heard that, and could clearly see how red in the face both diners were. She cleared her throat softly and spoke with a wide grin as she placed the new wine glasses and bottle on the table. "Main dish: Medium-cooked filet mignon with peppercorn-brandy sauce, accompanied by rustic vegetables and rose-water-and-saffron-infused rice. A robust red wine is served to compliment the sauce. Enjoy." Aphismet was sure he could hear her giggling still as she rolled the trolley away quietly.
Aphi sat up and cleared his throat, straightening his tie sheepishly. "A-and just so you know, I don't-... This is new to me too, this." He motioned to his outfit. "Never been on a date quite this fancy before. Knowing that you went through all that with your brother picking on you and you having to dress up... Knowing that is the best compliment anyone ever gave me. So thank you." The chef managed to smile without looking too sheepish or shy, trying to be honest and heart-felt. He couldn't help it that his cheeks still flushed slightly.

The woman gazed at him in stunned silence as her date talked so candidly with her, even going so far as to critisize the men she'd met in the past! Why would he do that? Alex was baffled by Aphismet's show of kindness, the affection washing over her like a warm and welcome rain, one that seemed intent on tattooing her blush into her cheeks.
A blush that only served to darken at Suzy's giggle. She kept her head bowed with her eyes lowered as the food was set out, a ridiculously wide smile on her lips, only partially hearing what the main dish was although the scent was quite heavenly. It all felt so surreal, that Aphismet had such nice things to say about her, that she wanted to impress him enough to wear a dress willingly and dine in his place of work - but it was real, and it wasn't a memory that she'd soon let go of, certain she'd be living over this night in her mind for weeks to come. Once the woman left, Alex finally lifted her eyes, a hand extending across the table to seek one of his. "Aphi...I don't even know what to say," she laughed softly, "and for me to be speechless is no small feat, I assure you!"
Teeth grazed over her bottom lip again, earning another shock of flavor before settling for a warm, full smile, eyes ticking to the side while she formulated her words. "You're the sweetest person I've ever met, hands down. Whether you mean to or not, you know just what to say to make me feel like a million bucks, even when I'm being a complete nitwit." The smile curved into a grin, one that was absent of teasing or jest and instead an expression of her happiness. "All this - the dressing up, the place, that you asked me at all, and especially you yourself! - it's all perfect. I couldn't have dreamed it any better, this beautiful setting with wonderful company. Thank you." Her expression softened, her eyes almost too tender given their first-date-with-a-friend status. "You're really special."
The Italian took a deep, settling breath, and the blush disappeared. She felt good, like she could take on anything! Who knew that a dress and a charming date could be so uplifting? Her nerves suddenly felt soothed, and while she was certain her blush would come back with a vengeance at some point, she felt like a Queen with her date's encouraging words worn about her like a mantle. It was as close to an ego as she could get.
"I um, wasn't quite listening when she came by," came the soft confession, accented eyes turning to the plate as if just realizing it was there. "Looks delicious though!"

Aphismet's smile stayed on his face and the blush kept on his cheeks at first when Alex reached for his hand. As time went on and Alex spoke, the blush diminished until there was no sign of it, only the smile remained. There was so much he could have answered to that; told her that he didn't think she'd been a nitwit at all, or that he was so flattered she thought he was the sweetest person she'd ever met, or that he was stunned and happy beyond words at being called special.
If the table hadn't been in the way right then, with its tall vase and candle and bottle of wine and meals with sauces that would mess up their clothes, Aphi would have leaned over to kiss Alex right then and there. The moment was so perfect, and who knew if this would happen again later! But he couldn't really think of a way to pull that off without getting to his feet and walking over there and making much too big a scene, so instead the white-haired man only sighed and chuckled breathlessly, looking down at his plate.
"I'm very happy you're enjoying the date, Alex. Very happy. Maybe there can be more? Not always so fancy I'm afraid, but-... I'd like to see you more." He smiled easily, sitting up with a bit more ease and infusing his words with an easy-going quality that he hoped conveyed his sentiments: You don't have to say yes and have it mean anything if you don't want to. Even if this was as far as their relationship ever managed to get, Aphi would be glad he at least got to spend time with the green-eyed Italian. Of course he hoped Alex would agree to being more than friends in the future, perhaps...
"Ahrm." The chef cleared his throat slightly, lifting the wine bottle to pour them both a fresh glass. "The wine is very good, I think. A good year or something like that. And the food is filet mignon with peppercorn sauce. One of my favorites! Ah, but we've been talking about ME almost all night! Tell me something about you!" Dark brown eyes glittered with interest as Aphismet took his first bite, washing the morsel down with a sip of wine and smiling at the taste.

Alex was, for all intents and purposes, extremely happy. It seemed they had found a middle-ground, some sort of understanding or compromise that they found even footing on. It was nice to be able to smile at the white-haired chef and not turn eight shades of red without a word being spoken. "Oh, no no, I'd...I'm not sure my closet can handle another dress." She grinned at that, a lop-sided and teasing display of mirth that lit her eyes. "But I'd really like to see you more too! Even if you just come over for a day at the beach or we meet halfway for brunch - that'd be wonderful." And more than anything, it was true; like Aphismet, she let her tone suggest that she wouldn't expect anything, but should they set up another time to meet, it could be as friends from this day on and she'd be just as happy.
She leaned back in her chair to give her date enough room to move, veridian eyes resting on the steak, a touch of appreciative hunger in her smile. "Filet mignon, now this is a real treat!" she gushed with a happy grin. "Peppercorn sounds yummy too! I'm not sure I've had that before." Alex glanced up to Aphismet as he poured the drink, shoulders slipping forward in a giddy little motion. "I trust you." She was referring to the wine, but she was far too pleased with the main course to elaborate, having fallen into a comfortable position of being herself.
The request made her momentarily forget the prospect of a delicious meal, blinking at the chef in surprise. "You're just that interesting," she laughed as she regained her composure, idly picking at her dress by her leg before forcing her hands up to take the remaining silverware to start her meal. "What do you want to know?" she inquired as she cut, giving a briefly satisfied sound at the tenderness of the meat. Pursing her lips, she decided to try and at least address most of the topics they'd covered over Aphismet himself.
"I'm a Leo, second sibling, huge family back home - I swear, if you do so much as smile at my aunts, they'll adopt you on the spot." The woman smiled fondly, thinking of the family she hadn't seen in so long. "I like to cook but certainly not well enough for a place like this," she winked at her date, "although I've been told I misjudge portions and cook enough for a small army." She paused long enough to take a bite of her dinner, showing her pleasure at the exquisite taste with her face; a flutter of her lidded eyes, a small curve of a smile, a tilt of her head. Oh, she wanted to remember this so she could try to emulate it at home!
Sealing her enjoyment with a delighted hum, she continued, "I went to college for what seemed like a lifetime, started on one track and jumped to zoology 'bout halfway through. Never looked back. Despite the bumps and bruises, I love my job." She stole another bite between words, another sweet sound lingering in her throat. "Mm, that's so good - I don't do much other than work, I don't really have the time, especially with Zul. I pretty much watch him play his video games or - oh, I like ceramics! But I think I told you that when we first met."
It seemed so long ago, in hindsight. With a small, breathless giggle, she tilted her head towards him, asking, "Is there anything in particular? I'm not all that interesting on the life-scale, just work, Zul, squeeze a date in with a handsome young man and back to work!"

Aphismet grinned widely as Alex agreed to see him again, chuckling at the mention of dresses in her closet. It was still a shock every time she mentioned it; she'd gone through all this trouble for him, trouble she'd never put herself through before! It floored him every time! Thankfully his mind was distracted from thoughts of being unworthy of such effort when Alex brought up the things they might do; a day at the beach sounded wonderful, especially with summer nearing. Meeting half-way between both their homes for brunch was such a specific idea that Aphi laughed a little, tilting his head. Was lunch and dinner not acceptable then? Or perhaps brunch was Alex's favorite meal? There were so many little things for Aphi to learn, and he wanted to know it all!
The woman's reaction to the steak was just as priceless as everything else this evening, and Aphismet beamed as though he'd cooked the thing himself. "You like steak, then?" he asked as he cut himself a piece, eating it with raised eyebrows. Who'd cooked this? Grill was usually Aphi's station, so someone was covering for him tonight... Was it the chef himself, or an underling? Whoever it was, that person needed to be praised. The meat was delicious! The sous-chef cut himself another piece and chewed as he shifted all his attention back to Alex. She'd asked what he wanted to know, but there was nothing in particular that he could think of! Aphi tried to hurry and swallow his food so he could say something, but his green-eyed date took the initiative and answered on her own, listing off a bunch of facts about herself that the white-haired man drank in with a smile.
The thought of her letting him meet her aunts sent a small shiver of anxiety up the man's spine. H-had she meant anything by that? No, no surely not. She was only saying that as a generality, like they'd like anyone who smiled. Not that they'd like any guy Alex brought along as long as he smiled. But no matter how the Italian meant it, Aphi firmly planted that notion in his own brain: When meeting Alex's relatives, SMILE.
"Your family sounds very warm, that must be where you get it, hm?" The man said once he managed to down that mouthful of filet mignon. "And I would be very flattered to taste your cooking someday. We can trade days! One day I'll cook for you, and one day you'll cook for me? And if you cook at my house it won't matter about the huge portions since I have so many mouths to feed it to." Brown eyes glittered with amusement as the last bite of steak disappeared from his plate. That was over way too soon.
"Loving your job is a very great thing, so rarely do people end up being able to claim the same. I'm glad! It certainly sounds interesting, and you get tons of fresh air... Every day's an adventure!" The scrape of a fork on the plate signaled Aphismet was finished with his meal, taking a sip of the wine before continuing. "I do remember you mentioning you were interested in art, but I didn't recall it being ceramics. I thought you painted! Ceramics sounds so very interesting! Have you done any pieces lately? And don't worry about being interesting or not, I happen to find you fascinating. Any little detail is fun to learn! Like, what's your favorite color. What kind of food do you prefer. Are you a winter-person or a summer-person? Are you scared of ghosts, do you even believe in them? All those things are really interesting, and I'd like to get to know!" Aphi grinned, starting to feel rather excited about discovering new things. He didn't know where all this confidence was coming from; he'd never been able to ask all this to a girl a few years ago! Perhaps he was finally growing up!

An empathetic nod was the answer to Aphismet's poised inquiry of steak; oh, did she ever like steak! "Mmhmm, I prefer meat with my meals." Alex chuckled softly, cutting another bite-sized piece. "I love my veggies and fruits but this! I could about kiss whoever prepared this!" Another bite made her eyes lid for a moment before she continued to cut, her smile as wide as it could be while chewing. She'd most certainly give her compliments to the chefs, wishing she could afford them more than excited banter over how wonderful they were - likely something they knew already, but was worth repeating!
A small giggle escaped her at the compliment, each praise and kind word seeming to dent the brittle armor that she fashioned as her outlook on herself; if he kept this up, she wouldn't be leaving the restaurant the same woman she entered as. "They're exuberant on the worst of days," a light grin formed, green eyes turning upwards briefly to her date's own. "On the best, they're quite fearsome. It's one thing to deal with lil' ol' me giving a hug and kiss, but imagine a platoon of us." Alex did laugh at that, imagining her family as some sort of Affection Army. She wasn't entirely sure Aphismet would survive a meeting like that.
As he began to speak in return to her own silly banter, she ate her meal with careful bites. The Italian was rarely one for dainty eating habits but certain places and situations called for it - if this wasn't it, she wouldn't know what was. "That would be really nice," she offered lightly to his proposition to cook for each other, warmed by the possibility of even cooking for Isi. She'd certainly put meat on that boy's bones!
And then she was overwhelmed. Compliments, questions, the way he looked when he was asking with such honest interest, it was making her feel like she was glowing. There were no words in all her known languages to describe it, so as she lightly rested her silverware on her empty plate, she shyly touched a curl of her hair and gave him a grateful smile. "I tried to paint, with oils, but it didn't go over so well. I mostly stick to the potter's wheel, I don't have much time to sculpt with my brother and Zul, but," she paused to consider when she'd last allowed herself to enjoy the cool feel of clay against her palms, "I finished my last piece a month or two ago. A vase."
Fascinating, he'd said. She wasn't entirely certain she had enough blood in her body to keep blushing anymore! "You're so sweet, Aphi!" she almost chided him, smiling all the while. "I really like blue-oh, and autumn colors together," she tried to return his rapid questions, one foot rubbing against the back of her calf in a self-conscious gesture she was glad he couldn't easily see, "and I like meat, well done is best! But I like fresh fruit more than anything. I love winter because it means it's time for fireplaces and hot cocoa and big, fluffy blankets. Ghosts?" That gave her pause, but she answered without thought, "No, I'm not afraid of them but I do believe. I've seen amazing things in my years, I'd certainly never discount ghosts!"
Alex took in a deep breath that ended in a quiet, happy laughter. When was the last time she'd talked so much about herself? Never, she answered to herself wistfully, eyes dancing as she looked at him. "I want to know all those about you too! But...I'll wait until it's my turn to ask about you again. You wanted to ask about me so I'll take that as gracefully as I can." She smoothed one hand over the table cloth while her inner self all but clicked heels with joy; it was almost nice, to reveal such innocent but personal details about herself...that someone would actually care enough to ask!

Aphismet was elated with everything. Alex was smiling so widely now, looking like she was so thoroughly enjoying herself! She'd finished the last bite of her meal and answered Aphi's questions, even the rapid-fire ones the chef had only asked as examples. He hadn't expected her to remember every single one, thinking that she would pick a few and answer those. To get all these answers was exhilarating, and Aphi reclined in his chair as he watched the Italian twirl that dark curl in her fingers, then move that hand down to smooth the table-cloth. Aphismet made a mental note to get more flowers to fit into the vase Alex had made.
"You'll have to remind me of the questions later, then; I doubt I'll remember them all. But since it's still my turn, let's see what else I can think of-"
Suzy insinuated herself into the pair's field of vision, sporting a large grin and pushing a trolley. "All done?" she asked as Aphi turned dark eyes towards her, acknowledging her presence grudgingly. With a pleased, nearly smug smile, the waitress took the empty plates and offered instead two smaller dishes, daintily arranged with decorative leaves and flowers. A small flan-type dessert rested in the middle, its sauce spilling down over a pair of strawberries. "Maple Syrup flan with fresh berries. Mint leaves provided to refresh your palate afterwards if you'd wish. This is the last course, enjoy!" As she spoke, Suzy also took the red wine away, replacing it with a delicate, bubbly rose wine. As she rolled the empty plates away, Suzy gave Aphi a slight wink of encouragement.
Aphismet snickered softly once they were alone again. "I swear, they're all so over-eager to impress you it's almost like you're THEIR date." By some miracle, Aphi simply didn't find it embarrassing anymore. It was more amusing than anything... He was finally becoming more comfortable around Alex, that had to be it. He smiled at her and picked up the dessert fork (the last one left on the table, not giving much of a choice), poking at the flan as he thought up more questions.
"Ah, okay, I have a few more for you. What's your favorite movie? What kind of music do you prefer? Do you watch any television?" He grinned, waiting for the answer and taking the opportunity to scoop up a small forkful of the dessert, tasting it.

"Fair enough," she replied before Suzy came back, giving the woman an overly cheerful smile. Alex felt great! She was having a wonderful time with a good friend, and all her worries and concerns had melted off of her shoulders, leaving her feeling light and carefree. Inwardly, she was certain she could attribute some of that to all the wine she'd had - the woman could not hold her liquor, and even the many glasses of the delicious liquid were quite comfortable.
Dark brows lofted at the mention of 'flan' (it was one of those things she'd often held side by side to 'spam,' although she couldn't rightly remember why, some childhood notion), intriuged. "Thanks, Suzy!" she giggled and waved her fingers to the retreating woman before returning her gaze to Aphismet at his words. "It's really nice that they're taking such good care of you, Aphi! You've made some great friends, I'd say."
She wanted to see how he enjoyed the dessert, but somewhere between the questions and the grin he gave her, she quite forgot about it for a moment, fingers resting over the fork but not yet lifting it. "Oh goodness, I'm about to show my tomboy roots here." Alex giggled softly, lowering her gaze to the dessert, although not really looking at it. "My favorite movie is Boondock Saints," she admitted with a look that was nearly one of guilt; one eye slightly lidded, her bottom lip again being drawn between her teeth, the grin she wore rather sheepish. "I like a lot of music but I mostly listen to dance and alternative rock...but I do love a good orchestrated piece. Like epic movie pieces! And I guess since we're being candid," her voice lowered as if admitting a little secret, "I really fancy smooth jazz too."
More laughter escaped her - no doubt, those four genres had precious little to do with one another - but it was hard for her to choose! Thoughtfully lifting the fork finally, she thought on television and shook her head a little. "I really only use the teevee to watch movies. Zul uses it most of the day, but before him, I just...yeah, I worked, I didn't really have time to sit and watch. I'm afraid I'm a bit behind the times there." Another sheepish grin formed, spearing one of the fruits and cutting the flan, the dessert settled on her fork before lifting it to take an appreciative bite.

Aphismet's brows had lifted happily at the dessert's taste, enjoying it thoroughly. Then again he always did have a thing for maple flavor. Grinning and taking another bite, Aphismet could now focus fully on Alex's answers.
He laughed as the woman warned him about seeming like a tomboy. Her movie of choice was a pleasant surprise, although it seemed to fit. It would have been too strange to hear her say "Pretty Woman" or some other cliché girl-movie. Besides all that, the look she gave the white-haired man as she admitted this was simply priceless, painting Aphismet's grin wider on his face. Her preference for music was rather eclectic, another pleasant surprise. From dance to orchestra to jazz... Alex was just FULL of surprises.
"Oh, I suppose your work doesn't leave you much time to watch television, right... Hahah, I'm not much of a TV watcher either, actually. I just watch whatever Riv or Isi happen to be watching when I run out of other things to do... So we're on the same boat there, with the "being behind the times" thing." He finished the last bite of flan and pointed the fork at his date playfully, swallowing before he continued. "And there's nothing wrong with liking Boondock Saints! It's a good movie! Fun that we have the same tastes, I prefer action stuff too. MY favorite movie would have to be either Snatch or Fight Club. Not EXACTLY the same type of stuff as yours, but still in the realm! Maybe that means we can both be happy with whatever movie we pick later, instead of one of us agreeing to it but not really wanting to see it... Which I'd been rather afraid would happen."
Realizing that he was rambling a little, Aphi put down his fork and sat back, smiling at the Italian. "I can't think of any other questions at the moment. Did you want to ask me some, or do you have other things you'd like to confess?" He winked teasingly, tilting his head just slightly.

She hadn't had much food that had to do with maple, other than pancakes - in which she liked her syrup sparingly, thank you very much - and maple taffy, which she thought was remarkable. Alex was content to make quick work of the dessert while Aphismet allowed her the time to eat, savoring the pleasantly rich taste of the maple against the berries. While she couldn't quite imagine eating like a Queen everyday, it was certainly a treat! She was almost sad when it was gone, resting her fork gently upon the plate and giving her date a excited smile.
"I haven't seen Snatch, but I really loved Fight Club too! Maybe we can watch Snatch whenever one of us makes dinner for the other! Oh, were we still going to go to the movies tonight?" The woman's tone went from jovial to shy in the span of a single word. "We don't have to, if, you know, this was a full evening for you. I don't mind either way, since we're already making plans for next time." Alex couldn't help but grin at that, the shine in her eyes indicating that she'd hold the man to at least one of them. "And don't worry too much about that type of thing...I think I'm pretty straight forward on my preferences, and I'm not very good at hiding my thoughts anyway."
The wink just about sent her into another flurry of blushing, managing to fight it down to a light dusting of red on her cheeks. "I confess that I've never blushed so much in my life," she muttered, loud enough to hear although she'd meant it more to herself. Musing over the possibility of questions - she liked this! It was like twenty questions on the fly! - she decided to pick a few less orthodox ones. "All right! Do you like to dance?" The smile she wore was interested but perhaps a little mischevious. "What's your favorite type of weather? Do you sing in the shower? How about...if you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?"
Light giggling followed her seemingly random questions. She was having fun and being a hair on the spontaneous side, but it certainly couldn't hurt!

Aphismet blinked at the Italian's question about them going to the movies. Ah, they'd not really said if they would or not, had they? And while Aphi was quite content to spend more time with Alex this evening and go to the theatre, did that little comment mean that Alex was getting a little tired? ...This Dinner WAS taking a long time, they'd been here the better part of an hour already! Perhaps it would be best to just leave it at this for tonight? Aww, the thought of their date ending so soon was disappointing, but like Alex said, they were already making plans for their next get-togethers! The chef's mood couldn't fall when he thought of that!
"Well, if you'd rather, we could end it after the Dinner and simply meet for a movie on another day. It's true we'd kinda stick out in these clothes... And I definitely will show you the movie Snatch when we meet up next! It's rather a fun watch, I think." Aphi leaned forward again as he spoke, one elbow on the table and his other hand toying with the glass of wine before taking a small sip. He chuckled at Alex's admission that she'd tell him if she didn't like something; yes, that was very much Alex-like. More so than just meekly accepting something, at least. She was so outspoken! So unlike-...
Before the man's thoughts could wander too far down that way where it had no business anymore, Alex launched into a slew of strange, out-of-left-field questions after muttering about her blushing. The chef laughed and sat back, running a hand through his hair and leveling the green-eyed woman a raised-eyebrows look. "Wow, you really know what to ask, don't you? Let's see, now... Dancing. I do like to dance, although I confess I'm not very good at it." Aphi chuckled, recalling one party in particular where he'd been roped into doing "the robot" with Chloe... "Weather, I prefer bright, sunny days that are not warm. Mostly spring and autumn days. They're the most comfortable, I think. Singing in the shower-... ah..." Now it was Aphismet's turn to blush, glancing aside and quirking his lips up in a meek grin, self-conscious. "Y-yeah, I do that. It's so stupid. I, uh... I sing old cartoon credit songs from when I was young. Like "transformers" and "carebears" and stuff. Don't laugh!" He warned, although he was already laughing himself.
The last question was more of a doozy, and it took a moment even after Aphismet's laughter had died down for him to come up with an answer. "You know, I never really thought about it before. Where I'd go. I mean, I never had the means before, and then I had Rivener and Isikoro to keep an eye on. So I guess I have no big plans... I'd go to Gambino, I think. I really do like the beach. And besides, I could see you. Hahah, okay, that was a little corny. I was going for bonus points... Did it work?" Trying to play it off with a laugh made the blush a little more bearable.

"Pah!" Alex laughed, shaking her head with a good-humored smile. "Do you think I'd care what other people thought of us?" She dipped one vibrant eye in a wink. "You'd be the one catching the long glances Aphi, I'd just be struting on your arm. The only reason I'm really asking about the movie is because I'm enjoying talking to you like this. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to shut up long enough." Another light giggle fell from her lips; it was a good thing she couldn't read the chef's mind, as surely the thought of her pink-haired friend would have sobered her rapidly.
The Italian leaned on her elbows on the table, fingers laced together beneath her chin, eyes lidding in a self-satisfied expression with a playful smile to match. She was known for being random and completely out there just being normal, let alone when she was trying! The poor sous-chef had no idea what he was up against! "Ah hah! But I didn't ask if you were good, just if you liked it!" A triumphant grin lit her features, listening to the rest of the answers with empathetic nods. She bit her thumb as he stammered about singing credits in the shower, but by the time he started laughing, she was caught in it too, a soft and happy sound. "I think that's sweet! I'll remember that." Not...that she meant when she was in the shower next, but--
Next question! She supposed she had somewhat anticipated the answer, given that Aphismet always took such great care of Isi and their Raevans. It made her smile more than grin, fond of such an honest and sweet answer - even with the little compliment tacked on the end. Alex laughed, touching her fingers to her cheeks to make sure they weren't on fire. "Definite brownie points," she replied, flattered, "although you had those to start with."
She suddenly found great, shy interest in looking at her fingers, rubbing over old, mostly invisible scars, which was enough to make her pause for thought. They were just asking questions, right? What could it hurt? "Okay, a few more!" Her hands lowered to the table, one hand tracing her fingertips over the spine of her nearly empty wine glass. "Few more to chew on. Do you like video games? What do you think of bodily scars? Ah--" Damn. She blushed pretty hard on that one, rubbing her jaw; so much for being graceful about that. "What's your favorite sweet? Maybe I can make you something sometime, since my sweet-skill is far better than my normal cooking skill, or so Lorenzo would have me think."

Aphismet could have argued quite vehemently that Alex would be getting just as many "long glances" as the sous-chef, if not more! Why was the Italian always so quick to dismiss how completely stunning she looked tonight? Before Aphi could mention anything on the topic, they'd moved on to his questions and he had lost the opportunity to say anything. Oh well, he'd just have to make sure she knew how pretty she was through his answers, that's all.
Alex's off-the-shoulder comment about remembering Aphi's singing-in-the-shower thing sent the mild fllush coloring the man's cheeks into overdrive for a short moment before he cleared his throat, settling himself down. He had the distinct mental image of Alex spending the night as his place, waiting for her turn in the shower and listening with an impish smile as Aphismet sang the G.I.Joe theme song...
Thankfully, Alex launched into the next set of questions, muttering softly about Aphismet succeeding at earning those brownie points he'd wanted. All in all it was more than enough to distract the chef from the blush-inducing thoughts.
"I do like video games, but I'm not a big player. I play when Riv ropes me into a game, and I do enjoy it, but most of the time I'd rather do other things, like painting." The next question made Aphi raise an eyebrow, tilting his head. "Bodily scars? That's an odd question. Are there people who are bothered by them? ...Well, I suppose there's all kinds out there, but I honestly never gave scars a second thought. I mean, I don't have any of my own anymore, they've all healed nicely since it happened when I was so young, but I used to have a huge burn scar all over my left arm." Aphi motioned to the arm in question, pointing from his elbow to his shoulder. "I don't remember much about how I got it, I was so young. It's all gone now, but I remember what it was like to have it: it was completely normal. So scars don't bother me in the least." Aphi smiled, glad that the random question had allowed him to share a little bit more about himself. "As for my favorite sweet, hmmmm... That's a good question. I think my very favorite would be apple pie. I just love apple flavor in general, so really anything with apples."
The chef smirked, recalling that Lorenzo would enjoy any sweet at all, even if it was dry and past its expiration date and growing fuzzy mold on it. "I don't think the Gwee's opinion should be trusted, although I'm sure your sweets are very delicious. I myself have to admit I'm only so-so at baking of any kind. I'm more of a meal-maker, not a dessert-maker."
Suzy carefully stepped into their peripheral, not wanting to interrupt what sounded like a very animated conversation. "My apologies, I'll just take your empty dessert plates. Feel free to enjoy this after-dinner aperitif," she offered as she place two small glasses of mint liqueur on the table. "The cheque will be waiting at the Maitre D's counter when you are ready to leave. Please take your time, and thank you for your patronage this evening. ...See you tomorrow, Aphi!" The girl added the last with much less professional poise, grinning at the sous-chef with the promise of many teasings later.
Aphi chuckled as he watched the waitress roll the trolley away. "Well, that's enough of her interruptions," he said, turning brown eyes back to Alex. "Just tell me whenever you want to go; I'd be comfortable staying here for hours."
