anime4c5 allen walker-d gray man omg kanda sounds like he has been though pubrty 40 times -.- its roy mustang ( form FMA ) the voice actr kanda is SEXY not a perv old man D: xd Lol! That's funny. You do have a valid point though. He sounds waaaaay older than 18. I still say Viz should be doing the English voice overs and that Neji's voice (done by Steve Staley) or one of his other voices, would be PERFECT for Kanda. gonk I still can't belive they pronounce Mugen wrong. gonk I HATE that!!!!!!! scream gonk scream stressed stare i know huh they make kanda sound a lot older then he 18...and i too hate that they cant say mugen right.it gets me soo mad

I honestly think he did a fine job...and I don't understand why everyone says dubs are so bad...they make bad subs too. And I would rather not read a show...I wanna see whats going on instead of trying to read and watch at once. I don't think either is perfect, and I DO watch some subs, but I perfer dubs.

Okay, I do have to admit that I was kind of weirded out when I first heard Travis' voice as Kanda. Then after a while, I can't really see anyone else doing the role since I'm now used to his very deep voice. >>;
Todd Haberkorn said in the commentary from the first DVD boxset that they actually had to go through a good amount of people for Kanda. Some of them didn't really showed up in the audition, they considered two people and one of them even finished doing all 13 eps as Kanda, but they felt that it's still not right. Then, soon after that, they finally went for Travis.
Yes, I have seen the subbed version long before the dub, but as a dub alone, I think D.Gray-Man did well for their dubbed version (err, mispronunciations aside, but I still think they did a good job).
And don't kill me for saying this, but I'm now actually loving LIKING Kanda's dubbed voice. It's all in the matter of what people are used to and if anyone were to watch the dub first before seeing the sub, I doubt they'd have any problem with it. I don't mind the dub at all, and there is the option in the DVD that you can just watch the subbed version. ... And is it just me, or are people are kind of overdoing it with the emoticons...?

I just don't understand why he will go all the way to NEW YORK to do the voice of Shuga on Moribito, but he wont go to Texas to do the voice of Kanda. The Funimation headquarters isn't nearly as far away as NY is. Hell, I just wish Viz was doing the english dubs! Their directors are GENIUSES!!! I have yet to hear ONE voice of ANY character on ANY show that Viz does the english dub for that the voice didn't fit the character PERFECTLY!!! Funimation's voice directors couldn't hold a candel to Viz's voice directors to save their lives! sweatdrop stressed scream gonk

You shouldn't insult other people for their opinions, because they are just as entitled to them as you are. So you think he's bad...other's think he did well...who cares?

Me and three of my siblings agreed the English voice for Kanda was horrible. Over time, as I watched the first season.. I came to accept it. It's not so bad once you get used to it.
I just wish they would've chosen better voices.. Kanda, The Earl, Allen even. Perhaps it's just me, but doesn't he sound kind of.. gay sometimes? Not that I mean this is any kind of offensive way. There's nothing wrong with that. It's just that Allen isn't gay. That's all..

I don't really think Steve is the best for Kanda. Maybe someone with a slightly deeper voice, like Doug Erholtz. He voices Asuma from Naruto, Conrart, from Kyo Kara Maoh, and Gin from Bleach. He can also make his voice a little higher if you don't like his deep voice. Take T.K. from Digimon Adventure 2 for example.
Or perhaps Grant George would be a worthy canidate. He voices Ken Murata from Kyo Kara Maoh, and Izuru from Bleach.

Musically Joyous I like Travis Willingham, he did a great job (to me) as Colonel Mustang in FMA, but I think Kanda's not quite the perfect role for him. Then again, I guess dubbed versions of anime rarely are as good as the original. razz I don't know any of the voice actors you mentioned, but I am a bit disappointed with how most of the DGM character's voices came out. I love Jeryy and Komui's though. XD travis did a great job

Travis wasn't that bad either. I'm fine with him, I just put out some voice actors I liked that might be good for Kanda too, but I still don't mind Travis. I think I'm just used to the deep voices cuz my bro's 16 and his voice is pretty deep for his age. XD

This is why I watched the anime with subs instead of dubs. I didnt really like any of their english voices. And Kanda. WAAAY to low! But Neji's voice wouldnt really fit him either. neutral

My question is why didn't they choose a younger [or younger sounding ]voice actor and still have that deep voice if that's how they wanted to train him.
I know none of the english voice actors of any anime dub look the part for their roles but damn! At least find someone who sounds eighteen instead of fourty-five.
Mustang was 30, Travis fits. Kanda's 18, Travis doesn't fit.
Then again, like any of our whining is going to kick Travis from his kush little Kanda chair.
In the end I still prefer japanese subs for most things. With some exceptions.

I think it should be changed. I don't know to who, but it should. He's the SHEXIEST anime guy alive. His voice should sound deep, but not THAT deep. He's only 18! He should have, a cold, deep, and mysterious voice. Ahh...he's so dreamy...
