“Hey, no problem! To tell the truth, I love this job almost as much as my night gig; I’m a musician. Say, does being a hunter get you any money? You don‘t strike me as a poacher or anything like that.” Verdant looked around and found the next herb on the list a few feet away. He knelt before the large patch of strong-scented chives and carefully uprooted a few bulbs. “Ah, I love how chives smell. Reminds me of onions!”
Orpheus returned with a relatively large stack of plastic and terra cotta pots in a bucket he held in his claws. They were heavy for him though, so he was flying pretty low to the ground; if they broke, Verdant would have to clean it up and he wasn’t about to give him more work when he was already helping a customer. “I’m back, Big Brudder!”

"It brings in money about as much as it saves , since I don't only hunt predators and even some of them have meat worth eating. But yeah skins and bones are where I make most of my money, the tanneries always need more hides." That and fur never seemed to go out of style which meant Eli never had to hunt anything he wasn't supposed to. " What sort of music do you play?" Hmm first Astan now Verdant looks like Eli was meeting up with musicians on a fairly regular basis.

"Thank you, sweetheart," Verdant cooed as Orpheus handed him the pots. He gently placed the plants in their new pots and tucked the roots in nicely with potting soil before setting them aside for later. "Oh, well it sounds like a very nice occupation! I mean, you get the excercise from the hunt and if you eat what you catch, then it means less money spent on groceries, right? I'm not much of a hunter, but fishing is another story." Verdant continued plucking different herbs from different parts of the garden and placing them in their pots. "Music? I play mostly screamo and Goth metal. Have you ever heard of Alesana or Abney Park? Nightwish? I play a lot of covers 'cos I'm not very good at writing my own songs."
Orpheus whistled ecstatically when he heard the word "music" get mentioned. "I help with my magic, hunter brah! I like emo and glam rock better though."

Eli shook his head he had no idea who those bands were or what the type of music Verdant had mentioned was.he made mental note to possibly ask if the man would fish with him sometimes though. The auburn haired hunter was a passable fisher, he had the patience for it though only until he actually hooked something which was when it got difficult. " It must still take talent to be popular for playing other's music" Why else would people pay to see someone who wasn't the original artist?
Uzi was equally confused about this music stuff, the lion like proto didn't understand the genre terms at all having been exposed to very little music in general during it's life so far." You sing with magic?" was that it then. Uzi inquired remember the earlier song performance." Does it not defeat the purposes of your help if you do not desire to sing the same music as your owner. ?" An essentic's first priority was always to serve their bonded. Personal preferences were to be taken into account later.

"I suppose so," Verdant chuckled in response. He just really liked the music; it held a special place in his heart, corny and cliché as that may sound. "People just love hearing their favorite songs played, I think. I mean, I'm not saying that covers are the only things I play, but it's just too much fun not to cover my favorite songs, you know?"
Orpheus stared at Uzi with a blank, contemplative gaze. "Big Brudder said... what he say? Hmm..." Darn it, what had Verdant said? "Oh! Big Brudder said not to see him like an owner! He said we're family. 'Sides, it takes more dan one kinda music to make a band."
Verdant nodded his head in agreement with his little brother. "He's very right, Uzi. See, though we listen to different genres of music, that actually gives us our own sense of individuality when we play. It just makes it a lot more fun to try and see how such different styles mesh together, you know?"

No Uzi did not know and it didn't make any sense at all to the essentic nor did the concept of being family to the owner. The Lion like proto gave a low rumble but said nothing , clearly losing interest in these people. Perhaps It would be more like the dog and simply wander this place at will until it was time to go.
Eli sighed a little and shook his head " Forgive Uzi , they're not easily drawn into new concepts" Not that Eli exactly blamed the essentic as he himself was a bit confused by all this. It just wasn't his world or his thing.

Verdant raised an eyebrow in confusion as Uzi lost interest in them. Had he said something wrong? "Oh, no, it's fine. I understand completely. It's like when someone tries to get me to listen rap or hip-hop; my mind just kinda goes blank, you know?" The look on Eli's face told him he did not. "Hmmm..."
Orpheus tilted his head to the side as Uzi merely rumbled in reply. Was it mad at him? He tried to think if he had done something wrong, but came up with nothing. "What kind of games do you play, kitty brah?" A safe queston, right?

" I understand the mind blank thing, I did a lot of that in my school years" Eli joked softly though it was the truth. Sometimes his teachers taught what he'd deemed to be pointless things and sometimes his classmates tried to engage him in conversational topic he just couldn't form an opinion on.
" I don't play" Uzi replied cooly " I hunt and I practice. Although practice can resemble playing the game of tag."

“Hahaha! My, um, friend is like that too. He’s more of a technology person, so he doesn’t really like school. So, does one have to go to school to be a hunter? I imagine you don’t, but it seems like you need to go to school for everything these days.” Verdant was surprised that there was a school for music; he wouldn’t be surprised if there was a school for hunters.
Orpheus’ wings perked up at the mention of tag. After all, he was great at it! “Ooh, ooh, would kitty brah wanna play tag? I bet yer good at it!”

Eli shook his head " There's no formal schooling but there's a lot of training. You have to learn about guns, how to load them how to shoot correctly, the best ways to aim and which spots to aim at on certain animals. Then there's trapping and tacking which each take time to learn. Skinning and gutting etcetra" The man smiled " It might not be as fanciful a title as doctor or lawyer but it takes just as much effort and skill to be good at it." You couldn't just put a gun in anyone's hand and ask them to bring back so much as a rat and expect them to succeed.
Uzi's eyes glowed brighter breifly " That would be fine, but it is crowded in here." Uzi might be fast and agile but it was still to big to play at full capacity indoors without breaking something.

"Oh, I'm sure! I mean, I can't imagine anyone giving me a gun and telling me to shoot a deer or something. I'm a terrible shot and I hate killing poor woodland creatures... except caterpillars. I hate caterpillars." If there was one thing peopel should know about Verdant, it was how much he absolutely, completely loathed caterpillars.
Orpheus tilted his head to the side and then twittered gleefully, just now realizing where they were. "Duh, kitty brah! Dis is a big place, brah! We can run around and not break nothin'!" Hell, the nursery was HUGE; if they broke anything, hey, it'd come out of Verdant's paycheck, right? No worries!

Eli raised an eyebrow " Caterpillars?" They practically didn't even count as an animal.
Uzi considered this, well if the other essentic was sure then. " You may flee I will gives you a head start." The armored proto was pretty sure that capable of flying or not the magical essentic wasn't going to be able to outrun them for long.

“Yup. Caterpillars. They are the embodiment of evil, I like to think. Makes it a lot easier for me to squish them under my boot. I mean the way they pulsate and ravage plants everywhere! It’s enough to make a nymph sick!” Verdant shuddered at the memory of all the dastardly larvae that had attacked his lovely amaranth the day he met Elst; oh, he was sure to make sure that never happened again!
Orpheus whistled with excitement as he took off, flying as fast as his little wings could. By the time he was certain his head start had ended, he was halfway towards Elst’s house. He was sure that nothing could possibly be harmed all the way out here. “Come n’ get me, kitty brah!”
