"Damn straight, or we'll both hunt you down and make a rug from your hide..." Embri just about growled, displaying a side of herself rarely seen by anyone. She was usually the most timid and quiet of Toshiro's family herd, but anything that menaced those she considered "hers" ... well, it was no idle threat.

"It's what I want," Chione assured the pair gently, that smile turning a little sad as she approached her brother, nuzzling him affectionately. "Jiyuu, what would I have told you? That someday a stallion might come and spirit me off? You either would have thought I'd gone bats, or worried about it ceaselessly." She'd had the feeling it was the latter. Even though he probably would have accused her of the former. "I'll be careful. And I will be back."

Embri nuzzled her foster-sister briefly on the other side of Chione, never taking her eye off Keshet. "You'd better, or we'll come looking for you, Chi." The cream coated mare turned towards her suitor, flicking her ears in indecision.
"And you..." she flicked a wing towards the dark stallion. "Do you intend to mate Chione?" Her carefully level voice clipped out each word with care, deadly serious.

"Nah, you went batty long ago," he replied jokingly, ever playing the part of the little brother as he nuzzled her back. Jiyuu was about to say something else when Embri suddenly spoke up to Keshet. At hearing her question his ears automatically perked and he too turned his attention back onto the rainbow-scaled male. Aw man, Embri. I would rather not know... Still, since the question had already been asked, he might as well listen to the answer- even if it was about his sister.

Chione met Embri with a smile and a nod. She'd expected as much. Hoped, even. They'd all looked after each other for so long now. However, she froze at the question, gaze flicking up to the rainbow stallion, that red spreading up her cheeks again. It was awkward. More with the presence of her siblings. And she hadn't exactly ever thought of herself with a clutch.

The young mare snorted softly at Jiyuu, apprising his woebegone expression. "At least someone's asking... would you let them take off, without even knowing his-" She tossed her head towards Keshet "-intentions? For all we know he's only interested in getting under Chi's tail and will be gone the morning after." Embri laid her ears back, for that was the kind of stallion she despised the most.
"I'd rather know now if he's going to be a responsible partner, or a flower chasing fuzz head before he breaks our sister's heart." She pawed the ground with an impatient toss of her head.

Keshet was slightly spooked by Embri's vehemence. "Well...eventually," he replied carefully, "and I do plan to stay with her and our foals when we have children." He was getting embarrassed now, too. "Not yet, no...just...look, the last time we saw each other was when we were foals, all right? I said then that I'd come back for her to show the world, right? Well, I kept my word. Any kirin who does not keep their word disgraces the kirin around them, and I would never want those I love disgraced, least of all Chione." It was all true, but it was still very embarrassing to say it out loud.

Love? Still didn't make much sense to him, but it was certainly much better than the situation Embri was concerned about. "Erm, I see," Jiyuu replied, glancing off to the side. Embri's intentions were pure and good, but talk about making the situation awkward. "I'm guessing that you've already discussed this matter over with your herd?" He wasn't really sure of what else to ask at the moment, still a bit overwhelmed from the suddenness of it all. He'd probably come up with a million questions later that he should have asked now. The mind was troublesome that way sometimes.

Keshet smiled. Finally, an easier question to answer. "No, but my parents are always willing to welcome new members, which Chi would, of course, be. They'll understand, especially since it's for love." Yes, from what he'd heard, his parents loved each other very much, which was why they stayed together, and from what little he'd been able to glean about his paternal grandparents, they would never have stayed together if not for the deepest love. If Keshet and Ashia each brought their beloved into the herd, there would be no questions asked, especially if it was for love.

The mare flicked her ears forward and back. "At least you're realistic." When, not if. "As for love, time will tell." Looking between the blushing brown mare and the rainbow stallion, it was plain to see she was enamored with him. "I expect you'll bring the nieces and nephews, should they happen, around to visit." She walked past Keshet, pitching her voice at ear level with a whisper. "You'd better not make Chi unhappy, or I'll be taking it out of your hide, dark one." With a soft snort and a nuzzle for Chi, Embri stepped back into the forest, keeping a wary eye on Keshet, somewhat appeased.

Chione had picked up on it, too. When we have foals... She cleared her throat in embarassment, her heart in her stomach. Embri's parting 'invitation' didn't help that nervous smile affixed to her muzzle. "I- ah, I will, Embri." Of course. They would be family to them, as well, right? And love? Ah, goddess! She looked up to Kesh, that smile losing some of its anxiety. He was handling this so well...

So, they were going to be having little nieces and nephews sometime in the future then? Ah how he would have loved to be able to tease her like when they were younger. Now certainly wasn't the time. He gave his older sister a loving nuzzle of farewell before stepping back a bit. "Well, if you guys happen by again more often than once a season, don't hesitate to drop by, eh? We'll be waiting." This Keshet fellow seemed nice enough, so Jiyuu left any further threats unvoiced. However, if anything did happen then Embri wouldn't be alone in goring the fellow.

Chione's expression changed. She smiled more easily, though there was still an edge of sadness to it. "Thanks, Jii." Biting her lower lip, she glanced off, not quite certain what to say. No goodbyes. But even a 'take care' seemed so final. Settling, she flicked her tail. "I'll see you soon, okay..?" That would do. For now, anyway.

Embri favored her foster-sister with a rare smile. It's the way of things... growing up, seeking one's place. "It's not goodbye, it's ... see you later. Couldn't get rid of us if you tried, Chi. On the wings of time, we all come full circle. "
The faintest of frowns crossed the cream coated mare's face as she turned away from the small gathering. Why... why is that phrase so familiar... and yet, I cannot for the life of me recall where I've heard it before.

Keshet did his best to look sober and respectable, or at least trustworthy. "I'll do my best to take only the very best of care of her, so long as she'll have me," he whispered back to Embri. He was excited in his own way about the future and the start of their journeys together, but he felt it was best if Chione finished saying her good-byes properly. It would almost certainly be some time before they saw each other again, so it was only right that they got enough time.
Now that the farewells were complete, it was time to go. Embri's parting words rang a bell in Keshet's ears. Hadn't his father once muttered the full saying in his sleep one night when he wasn't on guard duty? He fumbled for the proper response. "The Goddess grant that the time between be short and happy, 'ere time brings us together again on its ineffable wings." Such a formal greeting, he wondered what a few of the words meant, but now was not the time. He bowed his head in turn to Embri and Jiyuu and then touched Chione delicately with his muzzle. "It's time to go."
((I think this RP seems to be wrapping itself up. Shall we each submit closing posts and then call it complete? ^^; )
