"Foals," Suichii repeated in confusion. He'd had no foals, unless he had forgotten something a bit major in his past life, which was highly unlikley. Many things he was, but he was not a b*****d father, as his was. In the event there was even the slightest chance he'd have foals, he'd stick to the mare he'd inseminated like glue and even if there were no foals that resulted, he would have remained in close contact with the mare he'd hurt. If foals did result, he'd have loved them like no other. They were, after all, flesh of his flesh, and blood of his blood, and bone of his bone. He looked behind him, wondering if a foal had straggled into his families outing, and remembered none. Then it clicked. He laughed slightly and shook his head. "No, I am not a father. I was adopted upon my arrival by an Usdia mare named Scarlet. She ahs a son names Sweetpea. That's who you saw." He smiled again. Still, the fact that she didn't like foals puzzled him. He knew a soquili to a small degree when he met them. It was a gift. This one seemed like one to adore foals. He percieved her as calm, affectionate, and patient, everything a mother needed. Even Scarlet, when it came to her children, knew when she had to be calm, and did a very good job of it. When Suichii first arrived she stopped her spazzing and the first thing she did was set him up a very fine bed and prsented him with some fabulous berries made into a tar like she liked them. Of course, he'd eaten the berry tart whenever he was presented with it by his two leggers since then. He smiled and asked, "Bad expirience with one? Why not come with me? Perhaps a meeting with my family will calm your nerves. They seem to be on the fritz."

"Usdia?" She asked, cocking her head lightly and flicking her left ear. It was a habit she had all her life. When ever she did not understand something or was hearing something new about something she did know she would c**k her head and flick her ear. It meant she was curious. But she had not shown this habit in these lands yet, not to any Soquili anyway. Her two-legger always giggled when Selena displayed the cute habit, she said it showed Selena's true self. Sel never really thought about it. Right now she didn't even know she was doing it, for instance. "Are they small Soquili? Ive never heard of them..." Her list of questions about this new breed of Usdia was cut short when she heard Suichii's next comment.
"No, not a bad experience with one, I just figure that I am not exactly someone they should meet." She paused, "I guess you could say I am a bad influence." She said with a snicker. But she was sighing inside. She thought about how she and Brian talked about parent hood recently. How she longed for foals, but she was afraid that she would be that mother that could not provide that care and attention that a foal needs. She herself had to live alone from early foalhood, she never had any motherly care, so how could she expect herself to become a proper mother? Long ago she chose the path away from parent hood. She would just destroy more lives.
"And as for meeting your family Suichii, don't you think I have bothered them enough for one lifetime? I can deal with my nerves by myself."

Suichii laughed again. "Yes. They're only about the size of a foal, which was the source of your confusion. But I assure you, they are both fully grown." He remembered fondly of when he'd called them both foals when he'd arrived. How angry Sweetpea had gotten. He still did, though having Giada for a mate, someone who was equally as flirtatious as he was, had taught him patience. Suichii often times had his doubts about Sweetpea, but one thing he knew without a shadow if a doubt, was that he would make a fantastic father. He smiled fondly. His smile was washed away, however, at Selena's next comment. He tilted his head a little and asked, "what would ever make you think that?" He couldn't imagine such a shy and quiet thing being a bad influence. Her final comment was just as surprising. "Bother? Why, of course not. My mother adores others, and the rest are only slightly less exuberant. Of course no one is as easily excitable as Scarlet," he conceeded. "The worst that can happen, is that she'll stuff you full of food, I promise."

Selena's gaze softened and her face became blank. They were not foals? Just small horses? How strange, what is it like to be that small? She wondered. To be the size of a foal, not having the strength or height the others had? Being easy prey for some? Having to stay in that state, never to grow to her size, the thought made flashbacks flick in Selena's mind. She never had a foal hood, it was neither happy nor warm. It was another circle of hell. She blinked, and she was back in the grassy plain, standing before Suichii. Se blinked once more to keep the memories at bay. She would deal with them later. Not even three seconds had passed, so Selena nodded as if to pretend she was agreeing with Sui's statement on the Usdia of his herd.
She listened as Sui tried once more to get her to give in and meet his family. He seemed surprised at the fact that Selena felt like she would bother his quaint family. "Sui, " she said, as soon as he was done, "lets just say I could be a bad influence. Alright? And I don't...I don't do well in crowds. I don't think I can handle your family all at once." She said, looking away, her eyes being to soften. "Don't take it personally, Im just not much of a family-orientated person. I don't have much experience with families." She finished with an apologetic smile. She tried to think about her mother's song so that the memories would fade away, or at least give up. Sui was lucky to still have his mother, a caring and loving mother. "And anyway, I am not too hungry, I will do well with just some grass or leaves." Then her stomach growled. Loudly.
"I...err..." She froze. damn. "Fine...Ill come. If your sure I wont be a bother...."

Suichii grinned and jerked his head across the way towards his home. "No bother at all," he said softly. "It's a bit of a trek, but not so much that it can't be made. Claude says it's a breeze, but we can't all just fly there, can we?" Suichii smirked at lifted his eyes breifly, half expecting the stallion to be hovering overhead as he normally was. Honestly, that one didn't spend half the time with his hooves on the ground. "Personally, I like feeling firm eath beneath me." He stomped his hoof slightly to make his point. He flipped his mane a touch and said, "Well, we should be off then. Unless you'd like my mother to come down and fetch us, no doubt she'd be livid with worry if I'm not home realetivley soon." He grinned at the though of his mother fondly.

Selena let out a light laugh at the statemtn. How she longed for her own set of wings. Just for her. Big or small, the color would not matter either. As long as they allowed her to sail with the clouds and feel the never resting wind in her curly, silver mane. She closed her eyes and imagined it, just as a light breeze picked up. She opened her blue eyes and stared into Suichii's. "I would very much like to fly. Its so magical...like something only Gods can be born with..." She had never met a Wind Soquili. She was almost excited and hopeful that they could meet Claude on the way.
"What is your mother like?" She asked, true curiosity beginning to rise in her voice. Was she kind? Smart? Happy? Strict? Helpful? Nurturing? Gentle? Selena was excited to meet Sui's mother...seeing as she never truly had one of her own...maybe she would even take her in. No, that was impossible. It was too much to hope for....
She turned and looked out onto the path that would lead them to Suichii's herd and family. "Lead the way."

msn > Suichii smiled gently and nodded. "Yes, Claude seems to enjoy it. I, on the other hand, enjoy keeping my hooves on the ground." At the sound of his mother's voice Suichii smiled gently to himself. "She's a gem, truly she is. I don't think she's ever met a stranger before. And for all the hardship she's been through it's hard to believe, really. She falls totally in love with everyone she meets too. Instant familial ties, really."
> Selena looked at him in a bit of a wondered state. Instant family ties...? That sounded so nice...but she pushed the thought away and rather looked at the path they were to travel together. She knew better than to fantasize about things such as family. She had given up a long time ago, accepted her nature and way of life. Now was no time to resort back and hope for acceptance. She would just get disappointing again. "Well than lets go, your family sounds quite interesting, i must admit." She gave him a slightly cheeky smile and began to walk.
> "Oh, interesting doesn't even begin to cover it. You'd never know Sweetpea and Scarlet were blood tied. Sweet is so calm and prefers to think, while I don't think Scarlet has ever kept a thought to herself." He chuckled a little more. "Claude and I often have to humor her, but it's not that bad. Mostly it's amusing. I think you shall like it." It was then that they began to mount the path leading up the face of the mountain.
> "Hmmm, is that so?" Strange names they all had, so different, yet...they all seemed...bonded and tied together strongly. The tone in Suichii's voice was kind and happy when talking about his family, it made Selena almost jealous to be able to talk like that with pure intention. She looked up the path, hoping his herd was not far, her curiosity growing. "Perhaps i will...we shall see upon our arrival. " She looked at him and smiled, he was very kind.
> "It's only a few moments walk, if you look, see that black spot on the top of the mountain? That's my mother, I didn't come back with the herd, so she's worried. Expect her arrival down here shortly."
> Sel looked up and, just as he said, there was the dark spot. Shadowed by the sun. "So Scarlet, was it?" She smiled to herself.
> "Yes," Suichii said upon her arrival. Scarlet immediately inspected him as he walked shooting questions rapid fire with an alarmed pitch to her voice. "Are you alright? Were you hurt? Was it a Kalona? Who's that? Do you know her? Is she hurt?" She then set to inspecting Selena.
> Selena straighten up at the attack of questions. "Errm.." she blushes lightly as she was inspected by the small horse. So this was one of the 'foals' she had seen earlier. But...This couldn't possibly be Suichii's blood mother. She looked at him then back at the Usdia. "H-Hello ma'am. I am known as Selena. Its a pleasure to meet you." She bowed her head, lower than she usually did, and smiled.
> Scarlet grinned and turned to Suichii, "Don't you ever worry me like that again! Supper is waiting up at the camp, so hurry up." Suichii smiled with a nod and watched her canter up the path. He sighed and turned to Selena. "Well, shall we?"
> Selena laughed a bit nervously as she watched Scarlete's face and as she returned back up the mountain. Just like a mother. Selena wondered...had her mom...ever acted like this? When she heard Suichii's suggestion she turned to him and cocked her head in a smile. "Lets. I am still hungry." And with that she began her short trot up the slope.
> Claude lifted his head from his basket of wheat grass with a smile. "Way to go, you had mom in a tiff." Suichii smiled back and lead Selena over to the baskets of food arranged by type along the bigger teepee.
> Selena looked around, seeing the winged orange stallion, the little camp that had been set up, as well as two or three baskets settled safely right beside the winged stallion. Selena looked at them curiously and then looked to Claude. She bowed her head and said in greeting, "Hello, I am Selena." Of all the places and people she had ever met, here she felt so safe, so accepted. The feeling was so new to her.
> Claude smiled back and bowed his head in mutual respect. "I am Claude. These are my baskets. Istas is away, so I have babysitting duty." Sweetpea snorted, "You'd be nasy two after pregnancy and labor." "Not that'd I'd want to experience it, I'm sure it does. I wasn't complaining you little wart." "Amazon." "Half pint." "TINY TAIL!" Claude got silent. "Sorry Claude." "Yeah, you went a little far there." They both chuckled and went back about their business. Suichii came back with a few apples and assorted berries. "There you are Miss Selena."
> Selena closed her mouth and tried not to giggle. It seemed so foolish and...childish to fight in that manner. But it had a cute tone about it, a loving air to it. They really did act just like a family. Suddenly, her head lifted up slightly at the sweet smell of the apples, she turned to see the stallion Suichii bringing a few of them towards her, as well as some berries. She smiled and thanked him with a respectful bow and smile. "Just Selena will do, or Sel. I have no right to be called a Miss." She lay herself down in some taller grass and gracefully took a bite out of an apple.
> "Everyone deserves a sign of respect," Suichii grinned, "What makes you think you don't?" Behind them both Scarlet was tending to the basket jittering like she normally did when she worked around the camp.
> Selena looked at Sui as she finished off her apple, her mouth wet and sticky sweet from its juice. She licked it off and then pondered over what to say to him. Telling him the truth, the whole truth was not really an option. She looked up at the sky and in her ears her an old gypsy song, then played with the light breeze as it ran through her hair. "I have not done anything that entitles me to be able to carry a sign of respect." Her eyes serious, she looked straight at him.
> "That doesn't matter at all. It's in the past." Suichii shrugged and nosed a raspberry into his mouth. "The way I see it, with every new encounter, you have a clean slate."
> Sel blinked and looked at him with surprise. She looked down at the apples and snorted, then smirked. "Ive never thought of it that way. Interesting theory." But that was not how she did things. But she could, and did, accept differences.
> "Alright, Miss Selena it is then," Suichii announced with a smile.
> Selena just shrugged and shook her head with a smile. He did manage to cheer her up a bit about the subject, she enjoyed his sense of humor. She took one more apple and bit into it. It was very sour, she liked it. "Yum. She said with a smack of her lips, her hunger fading quickly."
> Suichii nodded and smiled again, something he did often. "I'm glad you like it! Things tend to grow better up here."
> She looked around, really taking in her surroundings and location. They were atop a high hill, maybe even a small mountain. It was no where near as high as some of the mountain ranges she had scaled, it still had much greenery around it. "Its a very peaceful place you have chosen for your camp." It was comforting, to be up her. She looked at the mis-matched herd. They really were a family.
> Suichii nodded and looked around too. "Do you need to stay here for a while? You look like you're struggling to keep your hooves on the ground... we can at least take care of the home part for you."
> Selena looked at him with wonder, once more. His kindness knew no bounds did it? The only kindness she ever had experienced had almost always been a trap. But this was different, and she needed to accept that. They were not after her blood. They were just hospitable. She gave him an awkward smile, "As crazy as it may seem, i do have a teepee waiting for me back in the mountains. Though i do tend to leave for days on end. So if it would not be a bother, i would gladly take up your offer." Something about them made her curious, and she wanted to find out what. And find out more about them.
> Suichii smiled and said, "good, then I must leave you to make up a bed, I'll be back momentarily, thought please,, feel free to look around and get to know the rest of my herd."
> Selena smiled and nodded. It felt so strange to be accepted. But she tried not to let it bother her. As Sui walked off she looked around at the rest of his herd. The two small horses, one she knew to be Scarlet, Claude the wind, and his baskets.
> Scarlet grinned from her place around the camp fire and dusted off a place next to her. "Come then deary, it gets chilly up here when the sun goes down!" Sweet turned his head with a smile in his eyes but a carrot in his mouth, and Claude grinned sleepily.
> Selena looked from each of them. They were each giving her a smile. She giggled at Sweet, seeing the carrot in his small mouth, she felt compassion for Claude's sleepy state. A true parent. And seeing Scarlets inviting gesture she stood up and slowly crossed towards her and took her seat. The sun was indeed setting quickly. "Thankyou for taking me in for the night ma'am."
> Scarlet gave her a look that said it was nothing. "Oh, pish posh, love, stay as long as you like."
> Selena smiled and laughed, "Thankyou." She looked at the fire as it dances and bowed with the breeze. It reflected in her blue eyes, hidden underneath her hat and silver mane.
> "So, what brought you our way, miss..." Claude hesitated for lack of name, but sounded and was no less genial.
> "Selena" she replied, ending it for him. "Well early this morning i accidentally bounded in, uninvited, on your family. Im sure you remember." She did, the embarrassment lingering. "Afterward, Suichii willed me to come up and meet you all. And here i am." She finished with her cocked head smile.
> Scarlet's eyes lit uo and her ears perked. "Oh, darling, that was you? Well, I must say you gave me quite the shock." "you nearly screamed." Scarlet gave Sweetpea a reprimendatory glare and hissed, "Oh I did n't, now you hush." "And that's considered harsh for her too," Claude murmured so Selena.
> Sel smiled awkwardly in apology. "I am truly sorry to have scared you, any of you." then a verbal battle sparked once more. She couldn't help but giggle this time. She looked at Claude, "You are all very close aren't you." She asked gently.
> Claude nodded slowly and his smiled widened. "The only ones here who is not an orphan is Sweetpea, and, of course, my own foals," he leaned down, perhaps unconsciously, and nuzzled the closest one as he thought. "We're all we have, really. It's a good feeling."
> Selena looked at them all, so they were orphans? She had guessed as much, or run aways. But having her suspicion confirmed made her feel even more accepted. "Then i guess i fit in well, also being abandoned." She giggled. Looking at the baskets. The foals inside were small, young, and weak. but protected and safe because of this herd.
> Scarlet grinned and nodded. "A mothers work is never done I always say," she giggled a little and nudged another stick into the fire, jumping a bit when it popped. Sweet chuckled and chewed lazily on a blade of grass.
> What a sweet saying. A mother's work. She thought of her own mother, dying and bleeding in the cold grass. What kind of mother had she been? Sel looked into the fire again and chewed on a rogue apple seed > Suichii took his place between Claude and his mother. "Your bed is made up next to mother's, feel free to turn in whenever you want to." Claude leaned over and plucked a piece of grass from his mane.
> Selena smiled gently, "Thank you very much sir." She looked back at the fire, which was slowly becoming brighter and brighter and the light of day dimmed. She looked back to the baskets after a moment, "Who is their mother?"
> Claude smiled, "Istas Misea, my mate."
> Selena blinked, "Beautiful name. Im sure they will come out gorgeous." A jealous pang sounded in her heart. What it must have been like to feel the small lives inside of her, and then see them come into the world, feel the responsibility of keeping them safe and warm.
> "That is our hope, beautiful and healthy. Perhaps, if you continue to come around, you can help me raise young Layfayette."
> Selena looked up a bit shocked, "Will that be one of their names?" She smiled to herself, a fine name. "I would be honored." The thought of coming back to a certain place more than once was usually rejected by her, she enjoyed traveling and adventure. And settling down was not something she was willing to do yet. But for this herd it was different. She felt as though she had been put in their ranks.
> Claude nudged her one with black feathers. "This is Lafayette. One of Scarlet's friends Flower is coming by tomorrow to pick up hers, and IStas will stay here and raise the last." He grinned brightly and said, "I'd be honored to have your help, Miss Selena."
> Selena smiled, "Thats sweet, that they each get a home and a personal guardian." She looked at each, the baskets were all so interestingly colored, it made her even more curious as to the life inside. "Thank you Claude, though im not sure just how much help i can be. Ive never been mother...so I might not be that great around them." She admitted sheepishly. "Are these your first foals?"
> "We're in the same boat then, the only one who's been a parent previously is Scarlet." He chuckled to himself and tucked a wiggling basket into his chest as it tried to make a break for it.
> Selena smiled and laughed gently. The sun had completely set now and everyone's face was illuminated by the fire. They all looked so different because of it. She looked up at the sky, but all the stars were covered with clouds.
> "Good night darling, sleep well," Scarlet called happily from her place.
