Zia looked over as Misha made the suggestion, arms out a bit for balance. "I'm okay. I don't want the wind blowing all my feathers and cards away." Truth was, it felt like a good gust might send it up like a kite. Once down on the beach, Zia felt the wind lessen and stretched its wings out a bit, looking down at the sand under its bare feet. The sand was . . .pleasant. Looking up slowly, it turned its rainbow gaze on the ocean, watching the waves. Perhaps, it thought, there was magic outside of Farstep after all.
Of course Faolan followed his wife, dutiful and devoted husband that he was. He pouted at his wife's comment. "Some places would think twinkie dogs were a delicacy, I'll have you know." He looked at Longway and shrugged a bit. "Maybe avoid avocados. I have an allergy to them."

"Ah, sure. Hadn't thought about that. Sorry." Beep, how easy it was to forget things when you weren't... someone else. Whoop, and there was Rhian again.
"How far?" The bunny gazed out over the sea, finding nothing on the horizon but fog. "If my calculations are right it's about... two, three days worth of full-speed run in that direction..." he pointed somewhere vaguely south-east. "There's an island there, a really big one. And in most other directions it takes at LEAST a week to reach land, and you can still get nowhere. Of course you can't run over water..." Hmm, ponderous.
"I wouldn't try to go all the way Rhian-sis. maybe out a little bit and get back..." He didn't sound all that certain now. He just didn't know anough. Was it safe?
__~
"No twinkie dogs here, hah. You know, nobles have pretty prissy stomachs and all that." Heehee, she really couldn't help herself there. tease tease. "No avocadoes, got it. How about you two go settle down upstairs, I'll take you there, and then decide where you want your 'kids' to stay? The entire second floor's yours."
And take them up there she did. A nice spacious hallway, and even airier rooms aplenty. They wouldn't even have to share the same bathroom.

Rhian nodded. "Okay, okay! Just a little way then!" And then she was off, heading out over the water and flitting around, her wings sparkling a little as their sheen got the light. This way and the she zipped, sometimes tumbled around by the wind but mostly going where she wanted and enjoying to pretty blue wet stuff that was below her. "This is FUN!" She called out, waving to Ziazan and Misha - just before a particularly strong gust of wind caught her, twirled her around until she lost her equilibrium, and sent her for a splashdown in the water.
And wet wings are heavy, the butterfly found out.
~*~
"thinkie dogs are an abomination, not a delicacy," Ellandra said, making a face at her husband, before smiling to show she didn't really mean it. She was silent for a while after that, walking as close to Faolan as physically possible - this was going to be a nice trip, she just knew it. "All of this space. . ." she said wonderingly, not awed by grandeur so much as the fact they would actually be staying in something this huge. She liked their cozy little vardo, no worries about wanting to live in something else, but this was definitely something to be enjoyed.

"Rhian!"
Zia ran after its sister, heedless of the wind trying to knock it down every so often, and splashed into the surf. Then it remembered that it had never been taught to swim. Well, no matter now. It'd just have to learn as it went, it decided.
Flailing about in the water, it somehow managed to get to Rhian and lift her out of the water, letting her cling to it. Swimming in moving water was hard. Trying to move all its limbs, wings included, Zia started for the shore without too much success. Even worse, it had swallowed some of the seawater and was choking a bit now.
"Help!" it cried out, looking to the shore and flailing its arms, hoping Misha could see them.
Faolan took in the spaciousness of the floor they'd been given and frowned slightly. "This makes me feel a bit agoraphobic. What do we really need a whole floor for?" He sighed and bit his lip, not wanting to upset his wife or look ungrateful for what Banning was offering to them. Suddenly, he missed the little vardo. Maybe it really wasn't so bad to have the entire family underfoot all the time.

Misha's been gawking at the seagulls for a second too long, and before he knew it, Ziazan had hurled itself into the water full pelt. Uh-oh...
"Zia?! Rhian!"
The Alter didn't know much about the sea and drowning, only that you couldn't breathe water, and that they were in trouble now. Without a second thought he broke after them. If he hadn't been in such a hurry he might've noticed how cold the water was, and ho quickly he got sogged down himself, but he had at least a foot advantage to Zia, and quite a bit more mass to be tugged around. he wouldn't get swept away quite as easily, and he knew exactly when he was losing his footing. Zia also had Rhian to tend to on top of all six of its appendages.
Not a second to lose, and he was wasting none of them to reach them, quickly making his way towards them, flinging an arm around Ziazan's waist and clumsily doggy-padding back with all he had to give. Indeed the current was treacherous, but he managed to fight through it by taking a deep breath, going under and pushing off from the seabed. A bit of a panicky moment later he resurfaced, his two siblings safely in his hold, and hurried to get them back to shore, all three of them soaked and dripping now. Almost, almost he'd gotten bogged down too much. The bunny'd never known there could be an environment that hellbent on slowing him down and sapping his strength, phew.
They'd made it in one piece now, but were they alright?
"Rhian... Ziazan..." wheeze, wheeze, splutter. "Ah... are you... alright?" EWWW goddamn what kind of water WAS that? No wonder it smelled so salty.
__~
"Too big? You can always go spend the night in the broom closet... nah, Banning told me his family used to come here with.. at least a dozen people. There's indeed a lot of room now, might as well enjoy it. I guess I'll leave you to your devices now?" Aw you two, don't be... farmish now. It's not like she was any more used to this luxurious volume of rooms, her apartment had been rather small even before she'd had to share it with Misha. The space to breathe would be pleasant for a change.

Rhian had a problem. Not as severe as the one she'd had a few moments ago - the threat of imminent drowning and all - but a serious one nonetheless. She couldn't move. Or at least, not much. Her wings, soaked and dripping with seawater, were too heavy to make even the slightest of motions, no matter how hard she tried. The rest of her body was working just fine, but it was barely a third of the size of her wings - and thus, her own wings were pinning her to the beach.
"Mmffle." She said, trying to speak but finding it difficult with how she'd landed face to the sand. After a moment, however, she turned her head enough that she was a little more comfortable, and complained coherently, "Sibling-Zi, Misha-fluffy, I can't move!" Her tone was just a little on the desperate side, and with good reason - no one had ever liked being unable to move, and Rhian was no different as all. And wet wings felt icky, too.
~*~
Ellandra tilted her head and nodded a little, letting Miss Longway go off on her own business, and turned to her husband. "We could all just share one room, really, unless Ziazan wants to sleep elsewhere. . . Rhian would be happy with a chair to perch on, I think." Actually, this place was more than a little intimidating to stay in. . .

Zia lay on the beach, coughing to get the seawater out of its lungs. Being soaked had made its wings as hard to move as Rhian's actually, feathers not really meant for swimming. Raising itself up on hands and knees, Zia shook its head and looked over at Rhian to see if she was alright. "I think you need to just dry out a bit, sister." It began casting about to see where Misha was.
"Hell, no, lass. The Essentics can stay in their own rooms. If I'm to have you to myself, I want it just that way," Faolan purred, pulling Elle into a playful hug.

Misha'd spent just a moment trying to at least top himself from looking like a human-sized puddle, get some water off his ears, and quickly returned his full attention to his siblings.
”Drying... sounds like a plan. Attah you two, I'll get this fixed” At least they were conscious and able to talk... Mother iris, he felt so, so... He couldn't even keep them safe for half an hour? Gah, not the time for angst, he had better things to do. First of all he carefully picked Rhian out of the sand, wiped a hand on his wet trousers to get the sand off them, and began helping her to get her face free of the stuff, too. They'd soon learn that sand was one of those substances very much like cat fur. Impossible to get rid of.
Ah, he guessed that wringing out her wings would be a very, very bad course of action, but lord, she must be getting cold like this. Eventually he settled for unbuttoning his shirt, and pressing her to his warm body. They were both wet anyway, right? Like this she was out of the breeze as well, if he made sure to keep her close. Maybe not too elegant a solution, but at least it should keep the little thing from getting too chilled. Keeping Rhian there with one arm, he went to help Zia up then. Easy now, you okay there?
”... I think it might not be such a bad idea to go back. Unless you don't mind waiting for me for a bit while I go fetch towels?” Eheh. He'd sneak through the back entrance, if he could pass around unnoticed. He'd rather not alarm the adults, not if they were alright. This was HIS responsibility. Oh well, it was up to them if they wanted to come, or... why WOULD they want to stay out here in the chill like this? Well, it might be hard for Ziazan to make it up the trail, but Misha wouldn't leave him behind if he wanted to come.

Rhian shivered - it was just about the only motions she could make right now, not that it was a voluntary one-, and huddled as close to Misha as she could with sopping wings weighing her down. The little flutterby was jsut a bit traumatized, so the only words that left her mouth were, "I want to go back, please." Then she said nothing more, feeling bad for being the cause of everyone getting all wet and crusty and icky.
~*~
Ellandra broke out into laughter, snuggling up to Faolan. "All this space isnt' so bad now, then, is it?" She asked, standing on tiptoe to kiss his cheek. "I think . .. we should probably try to find out where everything is now. . . Ziazan and Rhian might like to pick out their own rooms to stay in, though."

Zia got up with Misha's help, rasping out, "I'll be okay to go back, too. Might be slower, but I'll make it." It pulled its wings in close, the left one feeling a bit sore from the impromptu swimming lesson.
Faolan grinned. "Depends on what we're using the space for, wife." He bent down to oblige her the kiss, then looked around. "Explorin' wouldn't be a bad idea."

”Good... No rush, we'll get there in time. We'll take all the time we need eh Zia, no need to get hurt.” Misha nodded at their decisions, speaking softly and soothing Rhian with gentle strokes.
He didn't let Zia go either though, not minding the young Alter's sense of pride for once, and just sticking with it to help it up the cliff again. Nice'n slow and careful now. If need be he could carry it on his back, but that might be a bridge too far. If anything he could cover for his protective behaviour by claiming he needed to tk it slower himself, no need to make it seem like he was coddling Zia. Rhian would be alright as long as she stayed warm, and Misha gladly provided her with body heat to last through the trek. All in all, it wasn't that hard to make it back up, even wet and worn out as they were now, and the bunny Essentic swiftly took them back to the shelter. While crossing the distance, he even tried to stay between the ocean and Zia to keep him out of the harsh wind that reared up again here on the plateau.
It only took a moment to locate the back entrance up on the wooden patio, and he quickly took his siblings inside, into what appeared to be a room-hallway reserved exactly for recovering from beach-adventures. A sink, a shower cabinet, towels upon towels, even a reserved space to dump wet-and-sandy clothes and shoes in. Yup, the people who built this has experience with kids and adults returning from trips-into-the-wild.
”Ah... not sure if you need more wet, but we could try to get the sand off here.. I think the water's much warmer here.” Eehee... Na, first of all he got a few towels, gave Ziazan one and huddled Rhian into another loosely, setting her down on the broad sink where she couldn't fall off. ”... are you okay Zia?” He hadn't asked before, but he'd noticed it struggling, and now that they were out of the cold, he had the time to check both of them up better.

Rhian watched from her towel cocoon as Misha took care of Sibling-Zi. Sibling-Zi was hurt, then? If so, it was because she'd been silly. Again. she really, really needed to learn how not to be stupid-silly sometimes. Flicking her antennae a little, the butterfly peered at her siblings and companions, and feeling rather guilty. "I'm sorry," she said quietly, her voice rough and hoarse sounding for.... some reason she didn't understand.
But she realyl was sorry - not only had she gotten everyone wet, apparently Sibling-Zi was hurt now too! Ah, now she wanted t ogrow up more than ever, maybe then she wouldn't have wings to make her sink and she could learn to swim? Maybe. It wasn't a thought worth pondering over right now anyway, not when she had Sibling-Zi to worry over. Now if only she could stop feeling so cold and, well, regain movement so that she could hover over her sibling until she knew he was okay.
~*~
Ellandra smiled softly. "It does sound rather. . . fun. I wonder how many rooms there are, what they all look like. . ." She trailed off, but looked around cuiously. She didn't know where they should start looking first, but she didn't dare look without Faolan - she'd get lost and never see him again, for certain!

Zia nodded quietly at Misha's question. "I think I'm okay. My wing feels a bit sore, but I don't think I was quite designed for swimming." It wriggled out of the wet clothing, laying them out to dry, and proceeded to towel off, fussing silently about sand being everywhere. One thing could be said of the alter--gender or no, thanks to Fao's parenting skills (or lack thereof), Zia certainly wasn't shy about being nude in front of others.
Fao grinned at his wife, then smacked her on the a**. "I got an idea on just how to explore these rooms while the kids are out." He gave her an inviting and rather wild grin, then headed off in a random direction, motioning for her to follow.

While cold himself, Misha first of all focused on his siblings. Rhian seemed to be chilled, still, and quite remorseful about her game gone wrong, and Zia... Ho, ho there. No offence to anyone, but this bunny had received an entirely different sort of education, and frankly couldn't help having a deep blush creep up into his cheeks. Not that he was very fussed, though.
”Never seen birds swim, no... Maybe you should let one of the adults take a look at it later, just to make sure it's nothing serious.” He stood there, still fully clothed and wet, pondering his knuckles for a moment. ”That's no good.” You're still full of that sandstuff, no doubt it felt icky.
Oh, got it. We're messy already, why not do it properly huh? Shoving aside his reservations, he half-gently mandhandled Zia into the shower then, not roughly, but leaving no opening for negotiation either. Also, three hoorays for instant-warm showers. BSHHHHHH.
”Clean up first, dry off later.” geehee.
Leaving the other Alter to its own devices for a moment, he started undressing too then, keeping only his pants on -damn you shame-, then snuffled around, found a clean broom, and quickly swept the floor to get rid of the sand. You could tell he'd done this before. Longway's hospitality doesn't come without chores, hah. Once he'd also gotten more dry towels ready, he picked Rhian out of her bundle of woe. All in all it hadn't taken him more than three minutes.
”Same goes for you... You'll be all wet again, but at least warm.” He took her inside the spacious shower cabin then, too, nudging past Zia, and began rinsing the sand and salt off her, holding a hand over her head so she wouldn't get water in her eyes. Pitter patter splish platsh, now he was getting squeaky-clean too. His tail was all soaked and peaky now, heehee. Naaa, there we go. Warm and clean again, and no sand on the floor this time.
”I think we can steal some of those, there's like twenty of them...” he meeped, pointing out to a cabinet with neaty arranged pastel bathrobes. For now he really couldn't worry about getting scolded anymore. Hey, they could always claim to just have gone to take a shower after that odd ride, and because outside was chilly.

Rhian pouted, trying to flutter her wings or at least get some of the warm, not so icky water off of her body. "I still can't move, Misha-fluffy!" She'd just come up with the nickname for him on the spot, but it seemed appropriate, even with his ears and tail being all soaked and decidedly not too fluffy at this moment in time. This was why Rhian hated baths - she couldn't move until she dried off! Yet another reason to grow up quickly, she'd lose these silly wings which were only useful now because without them she couldn't move.
~*~
Ellandra yelped as her husband smacked her - must he always do that?!? - and hurried after him, trotting a bit to catch up at first. "What're your ideas, hmm?" She asked, catching and taking his hand with an excited smile. Somehow she knew this was going to be fun - but then, anything with Faolan wound up being an adventure!
