A bit tired, and a bit dazed, Dorinelic had managed to make it to his room alright. His robes were an off shade of white, maybe a pale brown.. if you could call that ugly shade of a color brown. Normally he liked the color brown. It was a natural color, quite unnoticeable but as a stain...ew. Making a mental note, he thought it might be best to just go and get new robes. These were just a bit too off color for him...and something told him that no amount of washing would remove the stench and blotches.

Sometimes
, he mused, I dislike being raised a smith. To many stains show up... It was true, stains did show up...and he rather liked looking nice and not smelling like a furnace...or worse at social gatherings. Stripping down and tossing his clothes into a -very- smelly pile, (which was growing to take up a small corner at this point), Dorinelic pondered how to deal with his...stench. Looking around his things, (and a bit over at his roommate's, he'd not likely admit), the ex-smith pulled out what remained of the scented oil he used to stave off a lice infestation. Hey, something was better then nothing. Whipping his body down of dust, he dumped the oil and his head. It hardly reached down his hair and ran onto his skin but hey, at least he couldn't smell anything but lavender. Tossing on a clean shirt and pants, (along with his boots. He'd never enjoy sandals. Sands or not, boots were the best in his mind!) Dorinelic sighed.

In some ways, he felt quite out of place. A month at the wyer and he had made a few acquaintances but no one to -really- call a friend. Tonight, I'll at least say hello to someone. One person. Then I can go back to my habitual corner.

...The only problem was, who to even talk to?

By the time the thoughts of who he could possible talk to began to swim about his head, Dorinelic stopped and noticed his feet had carried him already to the bowl and the feast within. No point stopping now. Talking a deep breath, he looked for anyone he could remember. He did spy the young man who had prodded at the Hatching...And a flush of embarrassment went to his cheeks. Not only was he with his friends, but also his friends and their dragons. Still, he should apologize for what he said on the sands...Oh Shards...he hated this feeling.

Another deep breath came and went as Dorinelic managed to calm himself, if only slightly. He could do this. After all, it was just an apology. As his legs dragged him over, a small part of Dorinelic's mind kept chanting 'You can always wait. Later. Oh shards you're a farding idiot.' Stopping just behind Okassis, he waited for the conversation to die down before he moved to tap him on the shoulder.
"um..pardon my interruption but...I wanted to apologize for earlier on the Sands...I was...well...that is...I'm sorry about it." Oh Shards he sounded like an idiot.

Fuxith was all too pleased to remain outside, away from the noise and crowds. It was cool, it was quiet, and he had the perfect vantage point from which to observe the actual Feast. The only thing that would have made it better would have been to have His out here with him, but she needed to be in there. What would her clutchmates think if she wasn't? So, still and silent, he kept a close eye on the proceedings.

With a glance at the ledge where Fuxith's eyes glowed faintly green in his contentment, Zara quietly slipped into the crowd. Weaving her way through the press of people, she finally made it to someone she recognized. "Congratulations on the fine bronze," she greeted Okassis, sparing a nod for S'van. What had he shortened his name to? She didn't quite want to attempt his new name and find out she'd horribly mangled it, not at a Hatching Feast.

The Hatching Feast was the biggest gathering ever of awesome people, of that Nan was absolutely sure. Normally she would have been very happy to bound gleefully from one person to the next, never really minding who she got caught up with, but today she had specific people to see! Not to mention the eyes on her and Ren, who was trailing behind her as she moved through the crowd. But she would take congradulations later. She had a list of people to hug and she would be damned if she didn't get to them! Ah, there were her first victims!

"GROUP HUUUUUUUG!"

Somehow Nandeli managed to launch herself through the crowd around them and into S'van and Okassis – how had he shortened his name – clinging to them tightly. "By the First Egg you did it! You diiiiiid it!" She released them with a giggle, shaking her hair out of her face as she positively beamed up at them. They were so cute when they stood close to each other, basking in "brotherly" affection. Aaah it was so nice. A perfect end to a perfect Hatching. Realizing that there was another newly-bonded pair around them she offered C'mor a smile. "Congratulations to you as well!" What was his name? Conomor? Conrad? Something like that. She could hardly be expected to remember everything at a time like this.

Reneneth, unlike her rider, did not flying tackle her clutchmates. She simply waited until Nandeli's feet were back on the ground before moving quietly after her and taking up an available spot in the gathering. There were so many people! And Hers seem to know them all! It was very impressive. Utilizing some of Nandeli's confidence, the gold turned her attention to her nearby brothers. Okassis seemed to hold the attention of Hers, and so she decided that it would not hurt to speak to His.

Uktenath, she greeted softly, Mine is very happy that you found Yours. We are glad for you.

Galliath, who wished rather desperately that he could be down enjoying the opportunity to truly engage with the other dragonets, warbled a greeting when he noticed Ianquith. Another green to play with! There was Ailurath and Ianquith... and there were others. He couldn't quite remember all of their names. Miith would not be pleased. Miith did not like other females, but Galliath liked them. They all seemed nice. Yours is very important to mine as well. Mine knew that Yours was meant for you, the brown dragonet said proudly. S'van had, after all, been waiting in the Stands for that very Impression to be made. It was difficult to maintain such manners, but important.

There was tension between Uktenath and Naedreth. That much was very apparent to Galliath. Why it existed was not so clear. Hello. Mine does not know yours, Naedreth. He didn't add on the age old 'will you play with me?', because it seemed that bronzes did not play at such gatherings. Nor would it have been easy for the smaller dragonets to reach him up on his ledge. "Thank you... C'mor was it?" S'van said at Gall's prompting. Well, better late than never, he supposed. If S'van and O'asis were brothers, did that make Uktenath and Galliath brothers? Gall wanted to know!

"It is all happening, isn't it? Just like we hoped it would." S'van couldn't quite contain his excitement. Their plans were unfolding (perhaps not at the rate that they might have wished, but they were!) and going more or less exactly as they had imagined. "It's just like when we were boys, Kas. I knew you'd Impress." Now he could be sure of that, for the beautiful bronze proof was right before his eyes. "Oh, I know he'll be huge. He's a bronze, isn't he? Bigger than Gall, I'm sure." For now Galliath was larger, but that would change. He didn't see Kas' dragon being a small one, after all. Only a small bronze wouldn't manage to be larger than a brown.

"You'll have to sleep in the bunk next to mine, Kas. Maybe we can grab Jiri, or something, because I don't think they'll let Nan sleep with us. Do you?" And surely Nandeli would have no shortage of potential roommates now that she had Impressed a queen. "It's very nice to meet you, Uktenath... although I'm sure Galliath's already told you so." He couldn't thank the young dragon enough for Impressing his brother. He didn't know what he would've done if Okassis-- O'asis now?-- had never Impressed, but he was sure they would've worked something out. This was much better, though.

Narrowing his eyes slightly, S'van looked Dorinelic over. "You seem... familiar, somehow." Familiar. What was familiar about him. When a server went past with a wineskin, his gaze sharpened, and he blurted out: "You're the one who groped me! I know it was you!" How awkward. How incredibly awkward. What had the man been thinking, really? What on Pern? He could vaguely remember the touching, and the dancing... oh dear. He definitely, definitely didn't want to think about that. By the Egg, he hoped rather desperately that that was all to that particular memory.

"Nan!" he cried, delighted by Nandeli's addition to their group. "Congratulations! What's the name of that beauty of yours?" Galliath, too stunned to speak for the moment, didn't say. Did he even know? Smiling, he wrapped an arm around her, and pulled her in close for the aforementioned group hug. "You are amazing, you know that? Amazing, and wicked." There was no way around that. Nan the Nose had to be the worst tease that there ever was-- well, in her way, anyway. He could think of another. "I saw you Impress, both of you!" Of course. Of course he had.

In a cloud of excited green, Kia tumbled through the air, queeping with delight! "Queep!" she declared, coming in for a landing in S'van's hair. Unfortunately, she had misjudged the distance, and overshot it slightly, somersaulting to the floor. "Kiiir krrii!" she chirped, wanting as much as any of the other younglings to be noticed. She was just a little older than the dragonets, after all. "Kreee?" Where was Aeron? Tilting her wedge-shaped head, she examined the gathered dragonets, and new riders, as well as Hers.

Shards... it was getting so crowded, already! And so many faces he knew, remembered. O'asis could barely greet them fast enough - "Jiriar! Or what is it, now?" Peeling his arm off of S'van, he waved the other boy over, intent that he not be standing off during their shared celebration.

And then more timid frame - "Dorin, that was you out there?" he asked, surprised. He hadn't really caught the face of the person who had tried calling him back to the group - but shards, it didn't matter! O'asis was grinning already, laughing. He knew already that his stepping forward had done nothing. He and Uktenath were meant to be, and one moment didn't change that; he would have been found, regardless. "Don't worry about it," he assured the boy, giving him a pat on the shoulder. "C'mon, you're probably thirsty, aren't you?"

But at S'van's outburst, O'asis reconsidered. Withdrawing his hand from Dorin, he chuckled anew - "Or maybe you'd better lay off, sounds like!"

Then there was Zara, and his eyes lit up to see her - the Healer girl who had shown him the Touching grounds, and Impressed soon thereafter. But O'asis didn't get much further than a joyful, "Zara, it's good to--" before he was caught around the waist by a squealing, excited bundle of gossip-lover that could only be Nandeli, the infamous Nose - now more infamous than ever!

"I did it? Shards, Nose!" He turned the tables on her then, stealing her from S'van while the brownrider was defending himself against his own flitt and sweeping her up off the ground in a tight hug. "You Impressed the Queen!" O'asis told her through a jovial grin, as though she wasn't perfectly aware of the fact already.

Uktenath took an invisible breath when his sister came to him, saw him, greeted him before the others. You and Yours as well. They were alike, he thought to himself; she, too, would rise above all others, if Hers was the right one. And judging by how quickly O'asis embraced the new Goldrider, how much fuller his heart was to have her there to laugh with him, Uktenath was very sure that Reneneth had chosen well. So sure, in fact, that he turned his eyes to her and informed her, with reverent respect: Together, you will be great, Reneneth.

He could afford to overlook Naedreth now. As long as his brother did not encroach on him further, at least, Uktenath was confident that his place had been proven.

That is because Mine was always meant for me, Uktenath informed Galliath, a trace of a satisfied sigh in his tone. S'van was wise to have seen it, though, and Uktenath looked on the seaholder with a touch more approval than he'd already had.

K'riwar had made his way to the feast, taking his time -- Kadiath had many questions and took her time in weedling answers from him about everything. But he dutifully answered them all, explaining what things were and why they were called that way, if he could say why. At last, they stepped into the fray, the bustling crowd, and Kadiath lit up. She seemed excited to see so many faces and things that were very new, and stepped further, eyes swirling with curiosity. K'riwar expected he would have a long night of explaining people and things ahead of him...

Mine, there are so many! Come, introduce me to everyone! she said excitedly, not tired an ounce and wanting to meet anyone should could. K'riwar was mildly surprised, but laughed and nodded, walking further with her at his side. "I'll introduce you to those that I know, at least, Kadiath. Afterwards, perhaps we can try and meet a few new ones."

They stepped in, and K'riwar searched for any familiar faces, smiling warmly at anyone he did see.

As Nan made her bull rush through the crowd to tackle Okassis--O'asis, maybe?--and S'van, Zara found herself making a rather awkward leap out of the way with what sounded suspiciously like a surprised squawk. Straightening up rapidly to brush off her clothes, she offered a hesitant smile to the infamous Nose. "Congratulations to you too, Nan. A lovely queen, I see." Not that Nandeli was the first person she would have pegged for a queen--with the rumors that girl could produce, she half thought she'd end up with a green--but as Weyr wisdom dictated, the dragons chose.

We know who is Ours, Fuxith affirmed.

Oh, shards. Why was she here? It's not like anyone would really want to see her (not after the parsely insident, and her dragonet mauling three of the girls). But there was food. Ariaen hadn't eaten anything since the night before the Hatching, and she was starving. The new weyrling grabbed some food as quickly as she could and went to a far corner of the bowl to eat.

Her dragon, on the other hand, was having the time of her life sneering at all the other dragonets. All but the gold, Ari suspected, earned her hard red eyed stare.

"Sikatcuath, do you really want to make enemies with the others?" asked the green rider. Sika's right eye flicked to her rider for a moment.

Yours is sizing up the Others. Yours wants wants you to know she doesn't like the females, except the Queen, replied the dragon, looking back at the dragonets.

Ariaen shook her head. Those were going to be their wingmates some day, and Ari really didn't want to have to be on bad terms with the whole lot for training. It just didn't seem like a good thing to do.

"No."

And now he was arguing for the sake of it. For who would he be if not the obnoxious, confrontational redhead who people thought it best to steer clear of? Though, that reputation was quickly going down the tubes. Being weyrlingmaster seemed to lend itself to being friendly with some of the brats, much to his dismay. It was as though he just couldn't help himself. F'sey was forced to resign to the fact it must be Ialluth clouding his better judgment. She was prone to do that, every now and then.

I am not right now. Go with Ceylith's, please, Mine. Gentle, and firm, the mottled green was trying to leave no room to argue. Of course, she could leave out the 'please', but that would make her sound angry, which she was not. Concerned, but Hers had done nothing to make her upset. In fact, she was rather proud of her rider; he behaved very well during the hatching! Listening in on his thoughts, she'd been aware of quite a few candidates F'sey had wanted to give a sharp word to.

"I want to stay here. It's a celebration, C'ren. I should celebrate with them, hatchings are very-"

F'sey shook his head again and tipped it to one side. Damnit. He was a lot more tired than he'd like to admit. It was like being in a constant state of distraction. The wild weyrlings didn't help, with all the shouting at the excitement, but one couldn't really blame them for that. Well, as long as they showed up bright and early- The weyrlingmaster shook his head again, a little unsteady on his feet.

"We can go back in a moment," he relented. "I just want to get some klah." Or something.

Mal winced as Aeron promptly stood at attention. For some reason, the Bronze felt that ‘standing at attention’ required digging his claws into whatever surface he happened to be standing on at the moment. In this case, that was Mal. “Ease up on the claws there, buddy? Come on…”

To his surprise, Aeron actually listened. To his dismay, Aeron also took off in flight, going towards something that Mal could only guess. Upon seeing the firelizard fly directly towards a group of newly Impressed Weyrlings, Mal automatically assumed the worst: that little Aeron was going to go challenge one of the Bronzes to a fight. He had challenged a dragon before! Thankfully, it was the cool and calm Daramulath, but… “Oh shards… Aeron!! Get back here!” He scrambled after the firelizard, who ignored him completely.

Of course he ignored Mal! There was something even more important than people right now! There was Kia! The moment the little Green spark had shown up, Aeron knew something was going to happen, mostly because Kia was always getting herself into trouble. When Kia suddenly vanished from his line of sight, he knew what had happened. One of the dragons had gotten her! Aeron landed next to the tiny Green ‘lizard and hissed dramatically at the much larger dragonets. He even flared his wings in an attempt to look all big and tough.

Mal thought he looked suicidal. Or like a delicious firelizard snack to the hungry dragons. “Sorry, sorry, ‘scuse me, pardon me, congrats on Impressing, I’m just here to get the small angry one, sorry…” it was a constant litany of apologies as Mal attempted to move closer to the pair of firelizards, hopefully before Aeron could cause an even bigger scene.

…Wait. Did he just say ‘no’? As in ‘just no’? And nothing else? Now C’ren knew there was something wrong with F’sey, since the redhead had never before passed up a chance for an argument. He continued to follow ‘Sey closely, just in case the man suddenly saw the wisdom of his… roommate’s advice and decided to go right to bed instead of hovering around here. Things didn’t get any better though; ‘Sey was back to calling him ‘C’ren’ and not ‘Ren’, like he usually did.

“Yes, I know it’s a celebration. And, yes, I know they’re important.” He suspected it was also personally important to F’sey since it was his first Hatching as official Weyrlingmaster. “It still doesn’t change the fact that I want to sleep.” Because, of course, going to sleep without F’sey in the next hammock over was completely unthinkable. The truth was, he thought F’sey wasn’t getting enough sleep, but there was no way the redheaded Greenrider would accept such a thing. But he would be willing to accept such a thing of the younger Greenrider.

At least F’sey promised to come soon. Slightly mollified by the promise, C’ren merely pouted instead of frowning at the other man. “Ok then. How about this? How about you go on ahead of me and I’ll bring you some klah instead?”

Jessmet and Ailurath joined up with O'asis and S'van just in time to be half-way tackled by Nandeli. "Oof!" she squeaked, attempting to extricate herself from the group hug. "Hello! Congratulations to you all. What a Hatching!" She nodded around at the others who had assembled. One slim arm snaked down to rest reassuringly on Ailurath's shoulder.

Truly she had never been more excited in her life. Although normally quite reserved, Jessmet was in high spirits. From her shoulder Trundlebug echoed her joy, trilling loudly at all of the dragonets. He was interrupted by Kia's headlong dive to the floor; the older fire-lizard did his best not to appear too amused.

Ailurath was not so tactful and gave a surprised/amused chirp. Is the little cousin all right?

"I'm sure she's fine," Jessmet answered absently, twisting around to see what the newest commotion was. Ailurath reared back on her hind legs as Aeron appeared rather too close to her face.

"J'riar, I suppose." He'd call back with open amusement, sizing up the quickly gathering mob that was surrounding the new bronzerider. "Careful you don't get trampled in there, shards!" His interest was caught now, and he was slowly beginning to get to his feet. He wanted to go see his friends, of course! But he suddenly felt a jolt of panic through him, sudden unease and fright. He glanced down, and found himself lost in those frantically whirling eyes.

There are so many people over there, J'rimine, could we not just watch? Ianquith wilted a little, almost ashamed at herself for asking such a thing of her rider. After a moment, she uneasily pulled herself to her feet and slunk close to his legs. ...We... We will go say hello to the others. I will come.

He was so touched by her trust in him, her willingness to set aside her own unease. "We won't be there long, lass--just enough to congratulate everyone, hm? You can see your sibs, huh?" There was a little huff of a sigh, and the slender green positioned herself behind the legs of Hers, slinking behind as he stepped closer.

"Congratulations to all of you, some of you fine, feathered wherries!" A playful nudge would be offered to O'asis' ribs, and a wide grin was offered for all as he straightened. The suddenly appearing firelizard made Ianquith jump, although the little bronze was nowhere near her. "Shards, was that Aeron?" He had to peer.

Oh... Oh, Kadiath! Ianquith was craning her neck a little desperately towards her sister who she could see, not daring to leave Hers, but wanting to hide behind the other. J'riar blinked and followed her gaze, lifting a hand delightedly at the sight of K'riwar. "Hoy!"
PostPosted: Mon Jun 01, 2009 6:23 pm

K'riwar was wandering through the crowd when he felt the excitement of his dragon, and the call from J'riar. He looked over, a grin blossoming on his lips as he immediately made his way over, waving to the others. "Well, hey there! I was wondering where everyone was!" he said, laughing as he reached out to clap J'riar playfully on the back. "Congratulations!"

Kadiath was brilliant with joy at the sight of Ianquith, eyes swirling happily. Mine, oh Mine, it is Ianquith! she cried in delight, bounding over to her and trilling loudly. Ianquith, do not be so afraid! Look, it is Mine, and Yours, and many Others, who are all happy, so we should be happy as well, don't you think? Yours is quite handsome, I must say -- Mine told me that handsome means nice-looking, and don't you agree? A strong boy.

Aaaw group hug. It was awesome. Not to mention being told you were amazing and wicked was pretty nice too. Her grin was beyond mega-watt at S'van's words, sucking in the compliments like a dry sponge. It wasn't every day people called you amazing, especially when you were the Weyr's gossip. Usually they just told you to mind your own business. But now, more than ever, everything was her business. Who could say no to a queenrider? Oh this was going to be absolutely glorious.

She wasn't given much time to react to S'van's question before she was stolen by O'asis for a hug of his own. Giggling madly she threw her arms around his neck to balance herself, and beamed down at him. "I did! Not expecting that now were you? I'm full of surprises!" Of course she hadn't been expected it at all, but that was besides the point. Nandeli was always good at telling small fibs on the spot. "And you Impressed a bronze! What exactly are we calling you now anyways?" It was no good calling him Okassis now that he was a true rider!

Remembering S'van's earlier question, she gestured to the little gold, who was observing the group with somewhat of a fascination. "Everyone, I'd like you to meet Reneneth. Reneneth, everyone!" After the announcement she shifted to grin at Zara. "Thank you! And a belated one to you as well!" Hopefully that would suffice for an apology for nearly taking her out.

I am very pleased to meet with everyone, the gold replied dutifully to her rider's introduction, and dipped her head to the group at large. She then returned her attention to Uktenath, who was being oh so kind to her. If the affection Hers felt for His was anything to go by, she had great hopes for this bronze. He had done well for himself. Thank you for your praise. You are very nice to say such things about us.

Reneneth was distracted when a strange mini dragon fell from the sky and landed in the middle of their circle. Perplexed, she made her way towards Kia, lowering her head so that they were at eye level. What was this little dragon? Surely it couldn't have a rider when it was that small! She pulled back a little when Aeron arrived, watching as this other mini dragon made a big show of protecting the littler one. I do not understand, Ren said as she tilted her head, crooning softly in her throat. Dragons should not be frightened of dragons.
