TOUCHING

Boa Constrictor Egg

A medium sized egg! Amidst all of its siblings, being medium makes it look, well, rather large! Of course, it doesn't challenge the adder pair, but it certainly does to well for itself, leaving many to wonder the color of the dragon inside. The egg is brown with varying shades, darker bands surrounding larger, lighter circles. There are small dark triangles littered among the circle sets.

Notos had gotten to the grounds into the traditional clothing, leisurely taking his time. The walk to the hot sands hadn't been far, rather, it was in no time that Notos had reached the sweltering place where the eggs were laid.

Executing a bow to the queen, he stood back to allow the crowd their turn to pass through.

While he waited, his gaze wandered, observing everything through golden-colored eyes. His attention was drawn to the queen's egg first, standing out above the rest. Well, that wasn't hard to see. His fingers stroking his chin thoughtfully, marveling at the size of the queens egg. Interesting, interesting. She certainly was promising to be a healthy queen. He looked over at the eager candidates passng by the queen's egg with a smile. "Patience, patience." Notos parted that advice, with a grin.

Deciding that he shouldn't dawdle, however interesting that it was, he moved onto the sands, ignoring the scalding heat from his feet. The heat was designed to make the eggs harden after all, it couldn't be helped.

"AH.." The boy let out a sound of exclamation, seeing two similar eggs being crowded next to each other. Twins? Except one seemed ramarkably darker in color, but excluding the fact, they were almost twin like. Notos lifted his gaze to stare at the other eggs, varying all in size and color. Almost like different sorts of food, if you'd like to call it that.

But something else caught his attention even further than just merely the eggs. The little bandybandy egg was amusing in its own right, Notos skipping the other eggs to kneel and crouch down. He wasn't worried about lack of attention, each egg seem to have their own following and what not.

He was eye to eye, or as close as they could be, when he grinned. "What funny egg." He leaned down to pet the egg, wondering it it was mere coincidence, or did the egg actually prefer to be like that? "Whichever the reason, " Notos had a large grin, "I appreciate the sentiment. It's not often that you can laugh on the hatching grounds." The Boa Constrictor egg laid near it, Notos giving it a fond pat also. "Find someone good, y'hear me?" He gave them a thumbs up, taking care not to damage either as he stood up to leave the grounds.

HATCHING

x_Nata_x
The sun was just beginning to set on the Weyr, the last sliver of the sun dropping below the horizon. In the glow of twilight of the Night Watch began to gather, the first shift rising into the night sky just as the sun disappeared and the sky began to turn purple. The dining hall had finally begun to look empty, Riders and Candidates alike heading back to their cots and furs, most getting sleepy from the hot evening meal.

V'len thought he was dreaming as the first humming of the dragons began to fill the air, the bluerider turning over and covering his head with his furs. It wouldn't be the first time in the last few days that he had dreamed that the Hatching had started, and he knew he wasn't alone. The Touching had invoked a nervous, excited tension about the Weyr, as well as an insatiable need to pace. Frankly, the blonde was always amazed at the frenzy the Weyr got into when they knew a Hatching was near, dragons and humans alike. Even riders found themselves more anxious, more excitable, and a little more jumpy -- no one wanted to miss it, no one wanted to be late. Not that he could blame them. He himself had been feeling it's effects, finding that any noise made him snap to attention, his ocean blue eyes looking in the direction of the sands. He couldn't imagine what the Candidates where going through.

Still, as the days went by, things were just beginning to die down. Even as guests in the Weyr, the Candidates needed to work for their keep, and even the strongest of riders couldn't go for an extended period of time without rest. So things were settling, and after an exceptionally restless day had settled into his bed, his body relaxing as soon as it had been covered by the furs.

Mine.

Immediately the bluerider's eyes were open again, the realization hitting him only a moment after his dragon touched his mind. Grabbing his previously-abandoned tunic, he struggled to get dressed and head towards the Hatching Grounds.

It had begun.

Outbreak Signal
Kiriwar wasn't sure what he thought of being dragged out of bed so late, especially since he felt like he had just fallen asleep. But he eagerly woke up completely when he heard it was for the Hatching, scrambling out of bed with his roommates and rushing to prepare to stand on the sands. He wiggled into his robes and hurried off, mumbling something of a prayer out of hope -- he could only hope this would turn out in the favor of him, or the favor of someone he knew.

With the other Candidates, he hurried towards the Sands, waving at those he knew. Once they got onto the Sands, though, he quieted down, smiling faintly as he joined the other boys in the group and waited.

Naree

Jessan was awake. He could not fall asleep lately. The young man wasn't sure if it was pre-Hatching jitters, the realization that his naming day was coming up soon limiting his time to Impress or just the weight of Candidate chores finally starting to press down on him. Blue eyes stared up at the skies over Ista. Hands behind his head, the normally carefree candidate was deep in thought.

"Hatching!" "The eggs are Hatching!" "Wake the Candidates!" "Get dressed and get to the Sands!"

Different cries and calls went up around Ista. Jessan was actually not that from his room so he heard the cries quite well. Scrambling to his feet, he ran back to his room and stripped down. He glanced over to see if the others were awake or moving. He tossed the white robes on and glanced down at his feet. At least, hopefully with the cool of the night, his feet would not get too burnt. "Hey guys! Come on, the eggs are Hatching! Get a move on!"

Anxious to get to the Sands, he did remember the kind of promise they made to stand together.

x_Nata_x
Talis rushed onto the sands with the rest of the Candidates, barely pulling her robes down before she stepped out of the barracks, her strawberry-blonde hair tussled from sleep. Of course she didn't care -- it was a Hatching, there were DRAGONS! Excited, and perhaps nervous enough to throw up, the petite girl hurried to stand with the group, the sands burning her feet. She's heard how hot it had been on the sands, but she never realized.

Shifting from foot to foot, she stared at the eggs intently, pale blue eyes glittering with curiosity.

The European Adder egg was the first to start shaking violently, the sound of the egg cracking echoing through the Hatching Grounds. The air went still, almost painfully so -- this was the way it always was, and the anticipation was not for the faint of heart. V'len held his breath, barely noticing that he wasn't breathing. This was what a Hatching was all about. Again he wondered how the Candidates were dealing. He couldn't believe he had managed to Impress at all.

Finally, the shell broke, almost all at once, shattering like glass, and a bronze spilled forth onto the sands, tumbling a little but ending up on his feet, hissing a little at his landing, as if he were scolding himself. Stretching his wings a little, the bronze flicked his tail a little, accidentally hitting the Death Adder's egg in his clumsiness.

Outbreak Signal
Ah, a bronze! A big smile curled on Kiriwar's lips and he leaned forward a little, watching the darling dragonet closely. When another egg was bumped, he winced, hoping no damage was done, before continuing to watch the little dragon to see what would happen next. This was going to be very exciting...

Naree
Jessan's breath hitched as bronze broke out and stumbled across the sands. It bumped into another egg and it began to wriggling as well. A bronze! A good omen at any Hatching. Trying to remember to breathe, Jessan looked around and saw Kiriwar. Did he manage to lose Notos and Jiriar? There were a lot of Candidates, the stands were crowded and he was touching shoulders with someone he wasn't familiar with...

"Who will you go to, little one?"

x_Nata_x
The bronze dragonet shook his tail a little, hissing again as if scolding the other egg for being there before turning his attention towards the group of Candidates, his green eyes whirling curiously, looking over the crowd. Stumbling forward a little, he eyed the males, his eyes whirling as he thought about them, and his eyes came to rest on Okassis, peering at him as the boy was clearly peering at him. He then snorted, arching his back a little and raising his wings experimentally, turning a little to look up at the people in the stands before looking back towards the males

Obviously this bronze wanted to take his time.

As the first-born dragonet took his time, a second egg began to quiver a little, a large shard of the coral snake egg breaking off and coming to rest a few feet away from the Candidates, the rest of the shell starting to crumble in tiny pieces. A striped blue sat curled by the rest of the eggs, his eyes whirling a little in confusion and distress for a moment before he stumbled up, silently staring at the Candidates, taking a few stumbling steps back and ultimately tripping over his own tail, hissing and spitting a little in surprise, the bronze turning to give the other dragonet a look.

The striped blue didn't seem to want the attention that the bronze did, and yet, ultimately, had drawn it to himself anyway.

x_Nata_x
The dark blue dragon relaxed a bit as it felt a little warmth from the Candidates, looking around at both the boys and girls, a little curious now, but obviously still quite unsure of the situation. Everythying was so confusing, so... overwhelming! There were too many of them, too many eyes watching him, and wanting him. Scrambling up from his sitting position, the striped blue went still after a moment, craning his neck just slightly, his eyes focusing on one boy in particular.

http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq334/chikubii/Sheepie/atosithhatchsize.jpg

UroruMine....

The blue's eyes whirled a little more as he moved forward, obviously hesitant, hissing in worry and irritation at the rest of the Candidates and pulling his head back down, obviously wanting to go to His, but certainly not wanting to move through the group. His multifaceted eyes met Uroru's, filling his mind with the distress of a young dragon, his tail lashing a little as he stood there beside the other eggs, his wings curled close to his body.

Mine, come get your Atosith! He wants to get away, they're all looking too closely. Please, let us go to some place away?

Another Hatching--and dragons were already abound. Jiriar was surprised by his lack of jitters this round, too clearly fascinated with the creatures prowling about on the sands. That bronze--he was looking at someone. The boy obediantly turned his head to follow the green gaze, and realized with a jolt it was looking at Okassis. Had he done it, that sharding wherry? His eye was still black from where he'd been on the receiving end of the other's bony elbow, and he hadn't quite forgotten that... but shards!

Okassis stepped forward then, and he had to resist the urge to whoop out loud with glee. He'd done it, then! Good for him, even if he was a useless dimglow in a fight! Not bothering to bite back his wide grin, he, with some effort, forced himself to stare at the little blue just as it tripped over its own tail. Poor thing! It didn't look very happy at all to have all these eyes on it, and he remembered the tiny, shy green from his first hatching. With luck, this little striped one would find His much easier than she had...

Jiriar straightened some at that. He wouldn't say no to being picked, that was for sure! And Okassis! He'd already Impressed! A bronze, no less! He had to drop his gaze to the sands finally to keep himself from laughing outloud.

Notos had been awoken in a flurry, hearing the word hatching break into his dream. He no sooner had woken up, with little warning than that, murmuring. "Hatching..?" when the white robe had been tossed into his face in the black of night. He didn't know who tossed it, and that fact wasn't important right now. In fact, it wasn't important at all, since it was helping. His eyes strayed to the window, dark, displaying that it as a night hour. And such a late hour... but he didn't suppose that a hatching paid any consideration to time.

The promise to each other had Notos flinging on the robes, and racing outside of the doors. By the time he had gotten to the hatching ground, he was out of breath. He executed a quick bow to the queen, before proceeding to see the eggs. Over the heads of various people, he could determine a little of the current events. He could see now, that two eggs had hatched. One bronze, and one blue. They had already impressed by the looks of it, the corners of his mouth curving into a faint smile. Good for them.

"What of the other eggs..?" he questioned, asking no one in particular. His gaze strayed to the eggs remaining, seeing that he hadn't missed much. The eggs still remained unhatched, Notos seeing that he wouldn't miss out on the action after all.

At last, Jessan spotted Notos and Jiriar. Moving slowly and carefully, he went to stand near his friends for support. When the bronze and then the blue came out, he tried to meet their eyes and smile encouragement. He was pretty sure that due to his...nature...that he would not be able to Impress a bronze. But the blue!

The creature seemed so shy. Almost like the green from the last hatching but maybe not as timid. He wanted to hold out his hands and let the blue know that he was watching and waiting. And, apparently, so was another boy. Someone Jessan was not familiar with-not surprising considering how many candidates there were-looked on as the blue moved forward.

There!

Impression.

Sighing, Jessan turned his eyes back to his friends and the bronze. It was an emotional time for everyone. Especially so late into the night. Perhaps one day, Ista would have a Hatching at a decent time. In the meanwhile, he wondered who the bronze would go towards. Don't give up hope, he told himself mentally.

Outbreak Signal
It had taken Kiriwar a moment to spot his fellow roommates, blinking slowly, before he began to carefully make his way over to them, biting his bottom lip. He only prayed he didn't interrupt anything as he walked through the crowd. Finally, he came up to Jessan, Notos, and Jiriar, reaching out to touch Jessan's shoulder and smiling faintly. He nodded silently in greeting, keeping up with their promise to stand together on the Sands.

Now they just had to wait.

Xaki
Notos's eyes made a sideways glance, realizing that during the commotion, he had meet up with the rest of his roommates. Somehow, but it was a pretty good feat, considering the number of candidates on the hatching grounds.

"Good to see you." Notos drawled out, in a low voice to the rest of his roommates. He was refraining from being too loud, having no desire to divert attention to himself for no good reason. But speaking of diverting attention.. Notos lifted his gaze to the person who was standing out. There seemed to be complaints from the crowd, Notos ignoring it. Complaints from bystanders were a tad less interesting, than the person who was actually doing something. He wasn't familiar with the person, but he was beginning to see that was a mistake.

He had to admit, it was untraditional, and extremely a dimglow move, but perhaps, there was a good reason to do so. Notos moved his gaze, waiting to see what the other boy was going to do. His gaze fell upon the bronze. If Okassis's actions resulted in his impressing, good for him! But aside from that, he had nothing to lose. Except some time, having his ear singed off with a lecture.

"Interesting, interesting." Notos leaned back, sending a questioning smile to his roommates. What did they think?

Outbreak Signal
Kiriwar looked up at Notos with a crooked smile, shrugging. "It's definitely an interesting turn of events," he murmured, nodding towards the Sands, before pausing at his own words. Another egg was hatching. He leaned forward slightly, blinking slowly and watching with fascination. As the little Green tumbled out, he chuckled, his smile growing at the sight of her questioning appearance. "Darling..."

Xaki
Oh. the funny egg had turned out to be a little green.. Amusing to say the least. Notos broke out into a grin at its antics, taking care to allow himself only a chuckle. "That wasn't surprising though." Notos commented with a grin. His eyes were flicking back and forth between the bronze who had not picked his candidate yet.. and the little green. Her personality had shown when she was an egg, and she didn't disappoint now.

"I wonder who'll be bonded with that little darling?" he directed to kiriwar, taking his affectionate term to name the unknown green. A hand covered his mouth, looking away to keep his composure.

He wasn't worried about the bronze or the green. It didn't look as if they were distressed, and being excited only resulted in impatience. In short, Notos wasn't joining the league of boys that were excited for the bronze. He did entertain hopes though, typical of any candidate.

Tisiphone
"I don't think I could ever be that patient," he spoke to the young men near him, "do you think he knows who his bonded is and he's just taking his time?" Mathyn smiled toward Notos and Kiriwar, their faces were familiar, but there were many candidates in the over crowded Weyr.

Mathyn found himself thrilled by the clumsier hatchlings, how ever do they grow up to become the giant graceful wonders? He wondered if his own bonded, if it ever graced the sands would come out clumsy or patient or angry and moody like others.

Xaki
"Could be." Notos answered simply, with no hesitation. Notos tilted his head back to look at the stranger that had spoken.

"Just ask his rider later. I'm sure that we'll all enjoy the dragon's tale." He extended a smile, and a hand to Mathyn. Glancing back once more, and determining that he had time for an introduction, Notos was glad to give one. "My name is Notos. Yours?"

The face wasn't familiar, but it would soon be. Notos liked seeing familiar faces at hatchings. It made it more exciting~

Tisiphone
Mathyn took Notos hand, "I'm Mathyn, nice to meet you, Notos." His mother's words echoed in his mind, always say someone's name after they introduce themselves, it helps with remembering.

Mathyn nodded toward the bronze, "I certainly hope I'll hear his story." He did not want to keep Notos talking for too long, he didn't want to be a distraction.

Naree
Jessan nodded as another boy joined them. The bronze certainly seemed to be checking every single Candidate in the Sands. The good news was he hadn't gone between and didn't seem likely too... The bad news was the wait was starting to upset his stomach. Greatly. Knots formed over and over again, turning his innards into some sort of puzzle.

When the green hatched, Jessan hissed softly. What a sweet looking girl! Her marking, her manner, even her tail raised up curiously. Hands by his sides, he didn't realize that they were clenched in excitement. "What do you think this girl will do?"

He whispered this to the others as he tried to peer around and see where the bronze had gone. "This hatching certainly is an interesting one."

Xaki
"I'll see you around then." Notos flashed a grin to Mathyn, making it a statement. On a side note, Notos was interested in the same story.. It might turn into one of those often repeated stories that you told around the fire with a cup of klah.

Distracted from his conversation with Jessan's whisper, Notos couln't help but reply.. "... I don't know. Choose someone?" Notos raised an eyebrow, humoring the other man.The male was apprehensive, tense, by the looks of his balled fists. He knew the male was excited, wanting to impress. Silently reviewing over the people that he did know in the crowd, Kiriwar.. Jessan.. Jiriar.. Mathyn were all liable to impress! Notos did want each of them to impress, and who knows? It might be this hatching. Or the next.

"S'gotta be one of the more interesting, but it's gettng a bit long." Notos winced, he had been making an attempt to term it nicely. The booming voice had also been a bit damaging to his ear. Partially unexpected, Notos rubbed at the side of his head to ease the pain that had entered his head.

The tiredness had tucked itself away in the back of his mind for now, but Notos knew that they'd get tired eventually. He wanted a bed, when it came to that.

x_Nata_x
The green peered up at Nimwae, her eyes whirling a little, tail flicking out of it's question mark shape as she wiggled a little, lifting and spreading her wings a little as if she were trying to balance herself out. Lifting her head, tipping only a little as she regained her balance, she stumbled forward a little more, bumping into a nearby candidate by accident, knocking them over but otherwise causing no damage. For a moment she took her eyes off of the other girl to glance down at the candidate, looking a little apologetic as she glanced back up at Nimwae.

http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq334/chikubii/Hiru/Uncerted/lernaeth1.png

May you tell them I am sorry? Lernaeth did not mean to. She is very clumsy.

The green paused for a moment, as if she had not focused completely on Nimwae after she had knocked the other candidate down. Now she had, and she sent a wave of curious, excited, happy feelings towards her, her eyes beginning to whirl with a slight giddiness.

NimwaeMine, why did you not pick up Yours when she fell? You were there, you wanted to, but you did not! Silly, very silly.

The curious voice sounded neither upset nor distressed, only curious as she stumbled nearly right up against her rider, pushing up onto her back feet and craning her neck up, fluttering her wings to try to keep herself balanced.

Xaki
Notos only watched, taking a seat. A seat in the back would've been nice actually. A place for him to lean against, like a solid wall. But the action couldn't be seen as well from there as up close. Like the actions of the green for instance, Notos told himself. He knew that the green had chosen a female, since there was sorts of commotion over there.

His gaze strayed once more, to the bottom of the sands, where the large group of boys still remained. they were still waiting for the bronze, it appeared. They probably had the best vantage point, being the closest there. But a dragon would choose a Him, no matter where he was. Front or back, did it matter?

He observed the head leader of the bunch, idly wondering if he should greet him sometime later. The boy was so confident, it was practically oozing out of him. That smirk, and posture explained it all. This was the same person that had broken the traditional rules.. not that Notos disagreed with him. But Notos took his gaze away with a grin. he could definitely see that boy getting slapped one day.

x_Nata_x
The green Impressed. And the bronze still had not. Everyone was starting to worry -- what if he NEVER Imperssed? Well, that was unrealistic -- all dragons Impressed. Still, it was rare for a dragon to take this long. He still looked unworried, as if he, too, were watching the hatching, crooning a little to himself when the blue, then the green, found Theirs.

The peace was broken as the Death Adder egg shook a little, scratching sounds coming from within the egg as it quivered, cracks beginning to form over the shell's zig-zag surface. So violently did it start shaking that the egg actually began to rock, falling over onto its side in the sand and ultimately on top of the Euro Adder's tail, causing the bronze to jump and make a startled sound. His eyes whirling in annoyance, the Euro Adder hissed at the quaking egg, his calm mood broken, whether by annoyance or embarrassment was difficult to tell.

Another crack and the shell was broken, a sharp talon breaking almost violently through it, and in another moment shards flew, revealing another bronze, his color much more of a rust-colored than his brother's. Shaking what was left of the shell off his skin, the Death Adder looked around slowly, taking in what was the Hatching, slowly rising to his feet, remarkably stable for a newborn. Perhaps it was because he had gone slow and had not rushed that he had not stumbled. The Euro Adder hissed again at the other bronze, settling a little now that the shell had been broken, but obviously feeling a little threatened now that another bronze was on the sands. Lifting his head high, he craned his neck a little, as if trying to prove he was bigger than the Death Adder.

The Death Adder, however, merely hissed back, lowering himself towards the sands and extending his own wings, eyes whirling red in semi-irritation.

Perhaps this was the start of a new rivalry.

Xaki
Now, there were two bronzes on the sand. Amazing actually, although Notos wondered.. "Will it finally choose now? We have some competition, it appears." He shrugged, relaxing. If it wasn't careful, the other bronze could steal it's candidate. What happened if a bronze chose the same person? Notos contemplated, it was a rare occurrence. Would it go between?

The idea of going between forced Notos to move on to different thoughts, looking at the Death Adder with a confident smile. No matter, there was enough candidates. More than enough, Notos admitted, since the hatching grounds was filled to a brim. "This is definitely getting more interesting." His golden eyes had gone alert, showing more attention than it had to the dragons previous. "Bronze versus a bronze, I don't believe I've seen this before."

Tisiphone
Mathyn inhaled as the egg cracked and revealed another bronze, he wanted a closer look, wanted to see if the hissing dragon would strike out at his brother. Dragons didn't hurt people or other dragons, that is what he was taught and believed strongly in; still the two did not look happy to see one another.

He quirked a brow at Notos taking a sitting position, he had met a new interesting acquaintance. His eyes drifted back up to the clutch mates and he stood tippy-toed to see if what would happen next.

Tisiphone
Mathyn grunted, he understood that this was a competition he could not pummel his way through and it was so frustrating. Frustrating that the young men thought they stood a better chance up front and seemed to force themselves onto the first bronze.

He made a choice he would at least allow himself to be seen, abandoning the fact he'd seen a hatchling jostle an entire group of candidates to find its bonded. He tossed up his elbows to nudge a few of the candidates so he could step forward and squeezed his way towards the front. He felt like a jerk, but he wanted a closer look, wanted to see if they would come to blows.

"Sorry," he murmured and found himself out front. You're foolish, someone'll yell at you next, he scolded himself but he was near the dragonets.

ConomorMine, step up to meet your Naedreth, The bronze's now green eyes focused on the boy, flaring his wings and standing tall. Those others were anxious to meet theirs, but Yours was patient -- Yours wanted to make the best choice.

Calm now, Naedreth moved towards Conomor, his green eyes whirling in a friendly manner, almost seeming to glitter.

The Death Adder kept to where he had hatched, waiting until Naedreth had Impressed before raising his head, looking towards the Candidates, his head sweeping in an arc to look at them all, one by one, until finally it settled on His.

http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq334/chikubii/bronzesm.jpg

Mine

The Death Adder pushed it's way a little aggressively through the crowd, amazingly sure-footed as he approached Okassis, his eyes calm once more, despite the slightly threatening sound to his voice. It seemed as though he was not quite through being angry at the prideful Euro Adder, his dragonet body coiled and tense, as if ready to strike at any who tried to get in his way. He knew what he wanted, knew who was His. He would let the Euro Impress first, but His was better.

You are not for him. Do not look at him like that, for while he thinks he is great, he is not. You are Mine -- look not at any bronze but Uktenath. I will not give you up to him, nor any other.

Xaki
"Hm..?" Notos looked at the boy sitting besides him, who moved to the front as quickly as possible. That wasn't needed, Notos thought mildly. It really wasn't, but if it calmed the boy, let bygones be bygones.

He turned his attention back to the bronzes, feeling a grin break out on his face. Unexpected, they had finally done it.

They had finally decided. At the same time, apparently, Notos observed as they each moved to their individual candidates. The European and Death adder was a beauty! The queen had laid some of the best bronzes that Notos had laid his eyes on. Notos grinned, glad to see that they had impressed. He hadn't been worried about the between part, but a hatching always put one in glad spirits.

"That's over with now." He commented to his roommates now, closing his eyes. A wave of tiredness washed over him, but he forced it back. The hatching wasn't over yet.

Tsunake
A little green! She seemed not at all upset with her surroundings--not like that bronze still sitting there--and Jiriar watched as she quickly made her choice. Well, after she accidentally knocked over a girl! But... that bronze. A frown was slowly pulling at the man's face. Why wasn't either of them moving? And then... a hiss, another bronze spilling onto the sands only to stare at its brother almost aggressively.

Shards, now he didn't know what was going to happen. Not until that second bronze shoved its way through the crowd, and the first one also made his choice. Okassis! So! Not the bronze he'd thought, but a bronze, nevertheless! His heart soared and he had to bite his lip to keep from cheering, only grinning wide as he watched. Good. Good, everything was going smoothly, and no hatchlings seemed to be in distress.

You wherry! Jiriar had to think fondly, knowing he'd have plenty to talk to the other about at the Hatching Feast tonight.

~

Look at them, standing off against each other like that... Goran's hardened stare didn't soften as he watched them prowl through the sands with whirling eyes, their personalities already so distinct despite their youth. The little blue, the green, and then the pair of bronze. And the absolute look of elation upon the faces of those whom the little dragonets reached for, the tears that rolled down the one boy's face.

And he felt a horrible longing.

What were they feeling, these new riders? What could move them so much? These creatures, the bond they shared with their riders.... He didn't know what to feel, or even to think. But this was definitely making his head spin.

All the Weyrs of Pern
Once the bronzes had made their choice, a peace seemed to settle upon the sands. They were both fine now, even though one who insisted on taking a great deal of time. And, as it would seem, none of the eggs seemed too keen on hatching yet. Not with all that tension! The moments dragged into minutes and the minutes started to bleed together when finally, finally, the milk snake egg began to shiver. The small egg just vibrated for a while, certainly taking its sweet time. Nearby, another egg began to rattle, as though encouraged by its sibling.

Neither dragon seemed to be keen on hurrying along, certainly not like the Death Adder before them. There was no violent rocking, not hard scratching, just the systematic scritch-scratch as the pair worked their way out of the egg. The milk egg cracked first and suddenly, the dragon spilled out all at once, as though it had been planning a great escape all along. The banded green gave a little chirp and made her way over to her sibling, poking at the other hatching egg perhaps a little too hard.

With a great shudder, the egg fell to its side and out spilled another green. Crying piteously, she crawled from the shards, shaking her body daintily as she glanced around. The milk snake green chirped and nudged her sister again, as if telling the meeker green to cheer up! Wings out to the side to balance herself, the banded green bravely led the way over to the males, her sister in tow.

All the Weyrs of Pern
With her sister guiding her, the smaller of the greens began to stroll by all the males. She was clearly taking her time, looking over each and every male one by one. It simply wouldn't do, to pass over Hers! Especially if it was because she was just in a hurry! The thought was enough to trouble any dragon and she simply wouldn't let such a fate be hers. Not her!

Meanwhile, the milk snake green was watching her sister. Well, she seemed like she was all set, right? Pleased that her job was done, and done well, the banded green decided to poke around the candidates for herself. After all, she needed to find Hers, too! She had things to do, people to meet! There was very little time to be wasted. Clearly, she didn't subscribe to her sister's theory of slow and steady wins the race.

But win the race she did! Raising herself up onto her hind legs, the delicate green looked Hers in the eyes. Jiriarmine. Your Ianquith...your Ianquith has found you, she said softly.

Jessan held his breath tightly when the two bronzes Impressed back to back. The others were certainly enjoying this as much as he was... Fists unclenched, the former herder was happy for everyone so far. How could he not be? No dragons had gone /between/ and now...

Now two little greens broke free from their shells. Almost immediately, they both made their way over to the males. Briefly, he wondered why no females had Impressed. And then, it happened. They stopped in front of his group.

Please. Please, let one of you be mine! He thought fiercely and loudly to himself and hopefully to one of the little greens. His eyes met those of his friends as they waited to see who would Impress or if they would be passed by. Then, it happened. One of the two girls looked over at his cousin and he could see a change...

Was it Impression for them both?

Outbreak Signal
Kiri's breath caught when the two Greens stopped in front of his group of friends, eyes widening with surprise. He glanced at the others, and it seemed that this first was for none of them but Jiriar. A grin blossomed on his lips and he did his best to contain his voice, wanting to cry out his congrats to his friend. Now he just wondered what would happen with her quieter sister...

Tsunake
Two greens... The one, so shy and demure, and the other more bold and caring. A grin pulled at his face as the bigger seemed to help her sister along, tilting his head faintly with amusement. So strange, to think personalities could vary like this. Dragons really were like humans, weren't they? So strange, so different from what he was used to working with. He'd hardly even noticed when the slender, lithe dragon had pulled herself up onto her hinds in front of him, feeling his jaw drop with surprise as whirling eyes captured his own.

Jiriarmine. Your Ianquith... your Ianquith has found you.

He didn't even feel the sand scorching his knees as he slowly dropped to them, entirely disbelieving as shaking fingers reached out for the tiny green. She came to him willingly, and his heart suddenly swelled with affection, comfort, love. His throat had closed up, her soft skin brushing against the rough callouses of his own fingers before her tiny body had nestled against his own, and a soft croon slipped from her as she tried to comfort Hers. "Oh Ianquith," He finally managed to choke out, torn between grinning like a sharding fool and just breaking down. But he couldn't, not here, not when something was tickling in the back of his mind. That was about the time the pang of hunger flared in his gut.

I am very hungry, mine... We should not stay on the sands. She fretted a little, and that was more than enough to force him to lurch to his feet. His world was a daze now, glorious and complete. Never alone again, never, not with Ianquith at his side! But Shards, she'd chosen him, out of all these people...

You are mine. You are kind, you are brave, I am yours. She replied, quiet and demure, but frankly. He could only shake his head in wonder, his hand all but glued to her slender neck even as he led her away on unstable legs. "Always, always, always yours." He promised her, fingers dancing across her skin with excited jitters. Shards!

Xaki
Notos was more than a bit amused, seeing the two greens poke their way around the candidates. Who would they choose..? He wondered, knowing that he wasn't their target. Nevertheless though, he quirked another eyebrow as the siblings paused ahead of them.

When one began to stand to Jiriar, Notos was struck speechless by the scene. or almost anyways, for Notos was never completely at a loss of words. Jiriar was having a 'moment', that Notos finally saw close up. Bonding with a dragon really did look like a pivotal point in your life.. a trace of wistfulness following in Noto's actions. He held back his congrats, knowing to save it for later. Later, when the pair were properly bonded, and taken care of.

The wistfulness had disappeared as fast as it came, Notos turning to the others. There was still another green on the grounds. He privately entertained hopes for Kiriwar or Jessan. It would be sad to lose them, but shards, they were pretty awesome candidates. They would get dragons, even if it took time, Notos was sure of that.

All the Weyrs of Pern
Her sister finding her rider, the milk snake green was free to meander around as she saw fit. And saw fit she did! As soon as Ianquith and her rider started to make their way off the sands, the banded green began to strut past the rest of the boys, giving them each a brief glance. She didn't take her time, not like her sister, oh no! This was a game! This was supposed to be fun! They were all friends here, weren't they? And she was such a pretty girl, it wasn't wrong of her to want a little bit of attention.

The young dragon crooned and spread her wings as far as she could, lightly brushing someone. Startled, she folded her wings back to where they belonged, looking up at the lad with a flick of her tongue. Oops! Well, she better keep moving! Tottering forward, the young green started to nose her way through the males, back tracking, going forward, circling around again. It was impossible to make heads or tails of where the hatchling was trying to go. Or was she trying to go anywhere?

Miiiiiiiine, she crooned, voicing ringing playfully.

She raised herself up in the middle of the group and glanced around! Aha! Spotting Hers, the dragon lowered herself back to the sands and darted forward, or rather, waddled forward. Darting would be a little hard for a baby to accomplish! But one way or another, she made her way to Hers and once again stood.

Kiriwar! Kiriwarmine! That was fun, wasn't it? Let's go! Your Kadiath would like to go see all the others!

What?

Kiriwar felt that sudden connection, and stared intently at the little Green that had been weaving, and now stood before him. She had rushed him, startled him, and he nearly fell back, just watching her.

Oh shards.

Kiriwar! Kiriwarmine! That was fun, wasn't it? Let's go! Your Kadiath would like to go see all the others!

Oh shards, it had happened. He slowly knelt down, reaching out for the small Green, skimming his hands over her as though to make sure she was really there, and she was. He laughed and immediately gathered the dragon into an embrace and pressed kisses to her muzzle, a delighted light in his eyes. "Yes, of course... That was very fun. Let's go," he murmured, getting to his feet again and moved to join the others who had Impressed, eager to see who else would join them.

Xaki
Kiriwar had gotten chosen too! Now he had to move over to another seat entirely, spreading his long legs. Noting in the back of his haad, Notos had to ask if there was any connection between Jiriar and Kiriwar, especially since a related pair of dragons had chosen them. Or were they just friends? Needless, he was really glad! His friends had gotten to impress, just as they wanted to. Oh wait.. they had new names, didn't they? Notos had to ask them later what exactly was their names, so he could at least do it correctly.

He glanced at the section where those that had impressed had gone, with a smile of his own. It was going to be a bit lonely on the hatching grounds now that both of them had to attend to their dragons. But that was life, wasn't it?

"Lovely." He commented, wishing that he had something to occupy his mouth. Jessan was still here, correct? "Well, it looks like its just you and me." A reluctant chuckle accompanied that remark, raking his hands through his black hair. He tilted his gaze upwards, not really concentrating on anything.

Naree
Jessan looked over at Notos and Kiriwar as the other green approached them rather quickly. Jiriar, or what would his cousin's shortened name be, had made it off the sands with his beautiful dragon. This girl was pretty as well. What lovely stripes and coloring.

She circled them, back and forth, enjoying teasing them it seemed. Finally, she stopped her little game and moved forward towards the three boys. Which one would it be? Jessan waited to here that voice in his head... Finding his other half but then he saw the look on Kiriwar's face and new Impression had been made.

SHARDS! How awesome was that? Two picked from their very group in one Hatching. Surely now, he would have to hunt both boys down and congratulate them during the Feast later. He stifled a yawn, that is, if he could stay awake. How late into the night were they anyways? With a handful of eggs plus the gold left to hatch?

"Good job, Kiriwar," he whispered before the pair made their way off the Sands. Looking back to Notos, he winked. "Who do you think might be next?"

Xaki
(Hope you don't mind, FerretPrince!)

Notos laughed good-naturedly, about to answer to Jessan when something else in the crowd caught her eye. There was a girl, quite wobbly on her feet. Her erratic movements were the ones that caught his eye, Notos stared intently at her for a few seconds, when she suddenly began to lose her balance.

Diving through the crowd, Notos sprinted on his feet to catch the poor girl before she hit the ground. he just barely made it, falling down himself in the process. But he had caught the girl in his arms, disheveled. His robe was falling off his shoulder, dust in his hair, his hair was in disarray. "Hey.. wake up." A hand tapped her cheek lightly, seeing that she was unconscious. What the shards?!

All the Weyrs of Pern
The now-rattling egg on the sands was oblivious to the poor girl who'd suddenly blacked out. All it wanted was out, out, out! A ferocious struggle was taking place inside, and a explosive crack soon filled the sands. The pale green dragonet within spilled onto the sands, snorting with confusion even as she struggled to her feet. The crowd would simultaneously draw breath and let it out in quiet adoration as the tiny creature lifted her head and meeped, wide eyes entirely bewildered as they swept across her surroundings.

So many people! So many faces! Why were they all here? Were they there to see her?

The fallen girl would catch her gaze for a moment, eyes whirling curiously before her tiny, clumsy legs allowed her to stumble close. She had no issue with leaning on the boy that were trying to help the fallen Elae, whuffling under her breath and nosing at her hand, almost seeming to wilt with unhappiness when she didn't stir.

Mine... Mine, why won't she say hello to Ailurath?

The plaintive question would ring through, and the puppy-like dragon gave an unhappy snuffle before she searched the grounds for Hers. There she was, and awkwardly, the small green began to awkwardly make her way close.

Jessmetmine... Has she not yet hatched? Ailurath queried with a quiet chirp, leaning against the girl's legs with exhaustion. It had been very hard, breaking out of that egg! But she was here now, and now she could rest.

Notos grasped for balance, straightening himself with one arm. When he was sufficiently composed, he got to his feet slowly with the girl lying in his arms. Beneath his fingers were the damp cloth, an indication of heavy sweat. And she looked so pale, Notos felt for a heart beat under his fingers. It was still there.

But he wasn't a healer. He didn't have the medical experience that they normally had. The best he could do was to take her to one, or give her amateur care that involved a bed and cloth.

In his surprise, he hadn't noticed the dragon until the dragonet nudged his shoulder. he stared down at it, a weary smile tugging on the corners of his mouth. In all of his worry, the dragon was still important. It looked saddened, before it moved away. Was Elae not Hers? Maybe not, Notos surmised as the dragon moved to another girl.

"Do you know where I can take her?" he asked one of the bystander, any bystander that could help him.

Naree
Shards! His stomach was churning again. Jessan looked over to see why Notos had suddenly taken off. There! A girl he vaguely recognized had fainted on the Sands. Was it the heat? Even though the night itself was cool, the heat rising from the Hatching Grounds was intense. Sweat trickled down the back of his neck; his robes clung to his back and chest.

It simply must be all the excitement and emotion going on. That and he hadn't slept yet. Tired, but determined to stay upright, Jessan just managed to catch another green Impressing to a young girl. And what a pretty shade of green she was too! A pale green, almost like a shell.

Outbreak Signal
K'riwar immediately had his attention drawn to the commotion, one hand gently resting on Kidiath's head as he looked to see what was going on. What was happening? Had someone... fainted? On the Sands? Surely the heat had gotten to someone.

Mine, what's happening? asked the dragonet, leaning against his legs and peering around curiously as she licked her muzzle. Why are they falling?

"I'm not sure," replied K'riwar with a frown, standing up as well to get a better look. "I think they might be sick... But I don't know." He sighed heavily, before looking over at the others with him, trying to see if anyone else looked as sick and pale as those falling. This didn't seem like it was supposed to happen.

Kidiath leaned against him harder, making a soft chirping sound.
Mine, we should find out why. There has to be a reason, yes? she insisted, before K'riwar put a hand on her muzzle. "There's nothing we can do, Kidiath."

Ariaen blinked in confusion. What was going on? She watched as a group crowed around a fainted girl. And what was with all that coughing? And a green just impressed?

What the shards?!

She moved to the group and fishing in her robes. She had to have put her healer's stuff in here... AH HA! Ari grabbed the small pouch and took out a rather pungent herb used for these things. She crushed it up in her palm and moved over to the fallen girl.

"This should wake her up," she said, placing her hand under the girl's nose. At least she hoped so.

FerretPrince

C’ym watched the Hatching politely and related the events back to Hanumanth. It was almost relaxing, after all of the rigors of weyrling training. Shards, but he wished he could see the Candidates faces as they Impressed! He was certain that he himself made the funniest face ever… but, sadly, most of them had their backs turned to the entrance, probably to keep themselves from being tempted to run away at the sight of an angry dragon. Good move. Also, there was something quite amusing going on in the Stands, something that apparently required one man to practically haul another one away. … Well… that was interesting… Hatchings were always so full of things happening.

When he saw the head disappear from his line of sight, he assumed it was just a mauling.

Ha. ‘Just a mauling’…

But then the word ‘fainted’ reached his ears, along with a lot more worrying ones. Something bad was happening out there. Must be the heat, he said to a worried and rumbling Hanumanth. But Anne destroyed that delusion by naming the sick girl: Elae. One of C’ym’s friends.

“Elae? Are you sure? Well, come on. Let’s get her out of there. We can’t have fainted Candidates on the Sands!” As a Bronzerider, he was fairly certain he was allowed to do this.

~.~

Thankfully, Notos didn’t have to play hero for very long. Although it probably felt like much longer to the frightened Candidates, Elae’s faint only lasted for a few seconds. As the boy started to get up, Elae began to stir, trying to regain consciousness.

Her first words on seeing him, his hair all ruffled, his shirt in slight disarray, and him looking oh-so-heroic was, “…You’re… not a dragon…” the words sounded oddly thick, as if she hadn’t spoken for a long time. And, anyone who knew Elae knew she could hardly ever shut up. Her head was pounding and she felt slick with sweat. It had to be the heat. Right. The Sands were always overheated and…

Oh, Faranth everyone was looking at her! Elae had been the center of attention before, but not like this! She knew she had… had fallen, but not anything else. She wiped her hand across her face, trying to get rid of some of the fuzzy feeling in her mind.

She finally focused on someone waving something around under her nose. It was tough to focus on anything, but this was easy because it was right there. “…Why’re you waving parsley at me?” she asked groggily, finally recognizing the plant for what it was.

Excited Apathy
Alright, so Zara was bad at sitting by idly.

Leaping down the stands with little care to who she left disgruntled in her wake, she laid a hand on the shoulder of a Candidate who was shoving Faranth-knew-what under the fallen girl's nose. "Let's not try that unless you know if she's allergic to it..." she said, trying to keep an edge out of her voice. Apprentices weren't supposed to randomly medicate people, shard it! She should know...she sure as hell hadn't been allowed to. "Let's just get her to the infirmary." There was an unspoken "now" underlining the weyrling's tone.

Makette

Ariaen raised an eyebrow. "I'm trying to make sure you don't get heat stroke. Fainting on the sands is one thing. Dying from heat stroke is another." Her voice was hard, more scolding like than of annoyance. She shook her head, but didn't glare.

"Its far to hot on these blasted sands, no?"

So someone had gone to Elae. That was good. Shaking her head and tutting to herself as she waited for the other Healers to move in, La eventually gave up and nudged her way gently through the crowd under Isonth's ever-watchful eye and concerned urgings. She reached Elae with little trouble; there was something about a woman who stood nearly a head taller than many of the Candidates, with hair cut short beyond what would be considered a reasonable cut for either gender, that parted them more easily than La would have expected.

Apparently...someone had gotten there first. A few someones. La gave Notos a slight smile and then looked at the other girl, who seemed to be waving something under Elae's nose. "Where did you get that?" she asked sharply, all business and no pleasure for the time-being. "Most people don't palm kitchen herbs before a Hatching, and you're not supposed to have things on the Sands," she added, though slightly less vicious as she had been initially. "And if it wasn't in your hand, Faranth protect me me, I don't want to know where it was."

Ignoring her beyond that, she looked down at Elae in Notos' arms and brushed a hand across her forehead. "Elae, love, you all right?" That was a stupid question. 'What happened?' was a stupider one. La went the easy way. "Do you think you can stand?" she added, a much more reasonable question. "We need to get you off the Sands."

She spared a positively glowing smile for Zara, though. Shard it, she liked people who knew what they were talking about.

Xaki
"..Yes. I'm not a dragon." Those were her first words out of her mouth, after fainting at the groungs? If he had been a jerk, he would have dropped her. But he settled for a dry tone, seeing that she was all right. An eyebrow raised at the odd girl, wondering exactly where her logic was. Or if she was like that, normally.

He didn't know who she was, but now that she had caught his interest, he was going to find out.

In response to her question, Notos chuckled. She looked bewildered, and Notos didn't blame her. He looked at the plant -- foreign as it was to him -- and answered, "I think that she thought the parsley would have woken you up. But it seems that you've disappointed her."

Othe rpeople had already moved in, Notos inclining his head to catch a smile directed at him. He smiled in return to her, before repeating the same question to the fainted girl in his arms. In case that she couldn't hear, and for Noto's own assurance.

"Feel well enough to stand? Or is anyone in charge of you?" His golden eyes gleamed with laughter. He would take her to the healer's ward if she didn't go with the second option. After all, he was a gentleman enough not to let a sick lady wander about on her own.

Edit: omg I type too slow

Annelie didn't waste time, nor words, and immediately turned around and headed towards the place where she had seen Elae go down. The crowds were thick, but once through the out rim things became easier. She gave a few "Excuse us" remarks, but whether or not they were even heard is debatable.

Coming through the candidates, it became completely positive and clear that it had indeed been Elae who had fainted, and Annelie would've taken a flying leap if crowds permitted. But since they didn't, she just hurried her pace and dropped any type of politeness.

"Elae? Elae, what happened?" she asked as she knelt down. Coming in late, she had missed any quips made from the huddle around Elae, which was probably a good thing. She touched the girl's shoulder and then glanced at Notos, whom she didn't recognize, and then the other girl who was waving around what definitely did look like parsley. ...Parsley. Right.... that was so going to help.Giving another look around, she noticed La and was glad that someone else whom Elae apparently knew had also come to her 'rescue.'

Excited Apathy
Drawing herself up with a distinct glare at Ariaen, Zara snapped, "Even if you're an Apprentice--especially if you're an Apprentice--you should know better than to medicate without supervision! Now if you're not going to help get her to the Infirmary, then Get. Back. On. The. Sands. Now." Her grey eyes were stony, her jaw clenched as she gritted out the last few words. Bloody Apprentices thinking they could save the world!

Be calm, Fuxith said soothingly. You do not want to make a scene.

La glanced at Zara and touched her arm lightly. "Easy, friend," she murmured, sparing a smile for the other girl. She knew her, though not entirely well, from their time working with the Weyr's healers. "You've done enough for the apprentice. Though you did it brilliantly," she added under her breath, shaking her head and shooting a glare at Ariaen.

Anne's arrival made her jump, and she glanced away briefly, still slightly unsure about how she was supposed to react in relation to a goldrider (or possibly just a beautiful woman. La was ambiguous about those sorts of things). "Anne, could you back up a bit?" she requested quietly. "The sooner we get her off the Sands, the better."

"If you aren't even an Apprentice," Lanakirene snapped aloud at the girl's outburst, "then stay away from the sick!"

Ariaen's eyes hardened into a glare of full anger at Zara. "And just what were you going to do about it, huh?! I didn't want her to over heat, okay?! And for the record, I'm not a sharding Apprentice, thank you very much!" There when her blasted temper... again. Shard it all! She was late and it was habit to grab the bag.

She growled and glared at the people around her. Blooding Hatching was all that bloody matter to every shelling idiot there! She said nothing but spun on her heel and walked straight to the edge of the sands, near the stands.

Shard it all!

azumi
Anne almost jumped herself when she was suddenly addressed, and she looked over at La with momentarily widened eyes. She blinked, then processed what had been requested and immediately began nodding her head.

"Oh! Yes, yes of course," she replied, standing and moving away a little but still keeping as close as she could. "C'ym's going to take her now, I think..."

She dropped off and raised her eyebrows at the Parsley-girl's sudden tantrum and then La's equally sudden growl. Ooooh dear...

Excited Apathy
Not even an Apprentice? Zara's jaw practically dropped at that. What in the cold dark void had the girl been thinking? But at Lana's hand on her shoulder she turned her head, taking a deep breath. "...Thanks. I just wish people would think before they waved whichever herb looked right at someone." Shooting a look after the Candidate she added. "Apparently, without proper training."

Dismissing it with a shrug, she continued, "Well, let's not waste any more time. Faranth knows what this girl might have."

Makette

Ariaen growled and kicked at the sand. She was such a sharding idiot sometimes! It was instinct brought on from her mother's training of her to wake up who ever fainted. It was just instinct. She considered just leaving the Sands and going back to her room, to sulk. But no, she couldn't do that because the bloody Candidatemaster would not approve.

GAH! This was why she never wanted to be a Candidate! Ari punched at sand, not caring how hot it was. She was sure she'd never Impress now. This whole thing was a waste of time, and she knew it.

FerretPrince

Oh, hey. There were other people here too. Besides the girl who was trying to stuff parsley up her nose. There was a girl who had Impressed last time and La and C’ym and Annelie… “Um… I don’t know what happened… I think I fell. I must have tripped on something.” She nodded almost fiercely, although most of that fierceness came from her throbbing headache. “Yes, I’m fine now. It must have just been the heat.”

Fardles. How embarrassing was that?! Fainting on the Sands?! She’d never hear the end of this unless she did something to salvage her reputation! And ‘you’re not a dragon’? What sort of… owww… she tried to stand up on her own and quickly regretted it. She was just so tired.

Before she could fall again, C’ym was there to help. Ah, C’ym. He was always a good friend, even if he blushed at just about anything.

~.~

“Don’t worry,” the Bronzerider smiled at Notos in what he hoped was a reassuring manner. It probably wasn’t, because C’ym was a rotten liar. “It’ll be alright.” He couldn’t be sure. He wasn’t a Healer. The little temper tantrum from the girl who had attempted to shove some unknown herb up Elae’s nose caused some brief amusement, but C’ym ignored it in favor of trying to just carry Elae since she clearly couldn’t get herself around.

Mentally, he made a note to ask her to lay off the bubbly pies later. “Let’s just… get her off the Sands and try to figure out what’s wrong in the Infirmary, alright?” Technically, they shouldn’t have even been on the Sands. C’ym was painfully aware of all the attention and it was making him a little nervous. He eyed the Queen dragon and bowed awkwardly, on the basis that he might as well apologize for stealing a Candidate from one of her children.

“La, Anne and… err… Zara? Can you three help me with Elae?” he asked. Honestly, he thought it was pretty stupid of a non-Healer trying to heal someone else, but there was a time and place for that punishment. It was up to Z’nal.

He found himself feeling sorry for Parsley Girl.

Carrying Elae off the Sands, C’ym tried to hurry, hoping the others would follow.

Excited Apathy
"No." Zara said firmly, fixing Elae with a Look. "Infirmary, or I go call the Healers to come GET you."

La smiled gratefully at C'ym's arrival and attached herself to C'ym's elbow as soon as he took charge of Elae. "Of course I'll help you. Faranth, something unpleasant's afoot." There wasn't much else to say from that point, although as soon as they were off the Sands, she breathed a sigh of relief.

"That......was a mess."

Xaki
Notos accepted her efforts to stand without a complaint, only responding with a sardonic grin. "I'll leave it in your hands then." He nodded to the person he recognized as a Bronzerider. The unsteady smile hadn't fooled him in the very least. But the girl appeared to know him, so it wasn't Noto's business any longer. He left it in his hands, probably because he had three other pairs of hands to help.

Notos was wondering why the other male couldn't seem to hold Elae alone, but let it slide. "Make sure she's ok. " He said briskly, paying a moment more of his attention. A nervous bronze rider too? Man, there was alot of firsts for him today. At least there were those girls there.. La, Zara and Anne? Zara proved herself, after talking to that little .. not-healer snuff.

He stood up properly, dusting off his pants. After this incident, it was hard to concentrate at the hatching.

Notos couldn't just go back to watching eggs. Too bad, he couldn't control his conscious at will. "I think.. I'm going to leave really soon." Notos murmured to himself. He didn't feel sick or anything, simply a bit distracted.

azumi
Annelie almost cringed at all the yelling going around, and she became very aware that more and more people were starting to look and wonder. 'Awkward' was beginning to not even explain it, so when C'ym asked her and the remaining girls for help, she immediately nodded and followed. ... NOT THAT SHE WOULDN'T HAVE FOLLOWED ANYWAYS. Elae was her friend, one of the few, and she'd stand by as long as she was needed and then some.

She moved at C'ym's other side, giving glances over Elae's carried form to La. She hadn't met the young woman before and failed at placing her at any event. Faranth, her memory was almost getting to be like Yansanth's. ... speaking of which:

ANNELIE! ANNELIE WILL YOU ANSWER PLEASE? came the desperate cries of said Yansanth. Annelie had unintentionally tuned her out in the given chaos and only now remembered the voice in her head.

Elae had fainted -- it's alright, though. She'll be fine...Hopefully.

Yansanth didn't know who Elae was. Or at least she couldn't remember her. She grew more worried, though, inspite of the fact and continued to send such feelings to Hers.

Tisiphone
The impulse to rush forward probably wasn't the best thing for Mathyn to do, but it was worth it to see the two bronzes as they found their bonded. It was wonderful to see such happiness.

The greens coming seemed so quick compared to the bronze who spent to so long and soon they found their lifemates. The young man's eyes drifted to the commotion in the group of girls, someone had fallen ill? Something was happening, the green even looked to the young woman over there. Mathyn saw that Notos had run to them, had he come from the Healer Hall? There were so many shouts for healers he shifted his feet in the warm sands, he was not much of a healer and there were journeyman in the Weyr standing by for accidents.

"Who's sick, what's happening?" He asked to anyone who could answer, "Is it so hot they're fainting?"

x_Nata_x
While the chaos ensued, another egg quivered a little from the sands, as if not minding that no one was paying much attention to it. There were more important things to worry about, such as the well being of the Candidates, and the boa egg seemed to take this into consideration as it shook gently, the clawing from inside the shell seeming much quieter than the rest of the dragons which had hatched before, as if to not disturb anyone. It was doing a pretty good job too -- even the way the shell cracked and practically just fell from the dragon's body didn't seem to warrant any attention. This was obviously not a dragon that needed all attention on itself.

As the last remaining shards of the boa egg fell away a large, slightly stocky brown dragonet replaced it, his blue eyes whirling a little at the disorientation of his hatching. Within a few moments, however, the brown seemed to have regained himself, straightening out and distributing his weight, spreading his legs a little farther than his shoulders to give himself a solid structure. Upon second glance, it was apparent that while this brown was quite large, in waist he was not a large dragon at all, merely, his chest and legs were. He looked like he would be quite a strong dragon indeed, yet even as he began to look around at the Candidates and up at the stands, where almost all eyes were on the sick Candidates, there was no hostility, no need to stumble around and create a scene, not even a need to be silly. Calm and composed, the brown looked around for a few moments before settling on one particular boy, crooning low in his chest, so softly that none could hear unless it was dead silent.

Another egg, however, had a wildly different idea. The pit viper egg began to shake wildly, the sounds of cracking egg echoing even over the panic, hissing even within. The egg shattered almost instantly, and a spitting green spilled forth, tumbling onto the sands onto her side, clambering up quickly. Hissing at the brown, she gave him a quick lash of her tail, the only thing keeping her from hitting him being her dragonet lack of coordination. Instead, the green lost her balance, and tumbled towards the Candidates, trying to find her footing and hitting one candidate hard in the side, causing both to fall over.

Of course, this didn't help the situation.

Again, the pit viper scrambled up, hissing and spitting, turning in a tight circle to stare at the group of Candidates she had accidentally fallen into, clearly feeling overwhelmed and threatened by the group, as well as the overall chaotic feelings around her. In her confusion and distress, the green lashed out with one clawed hand, trying to push the Candidates away from herself, her claws connecting with several of the candidates. Raena was one of the not-so-lucky ones, the green mauling the girl as she shoved her back, turning abruptly to lash out at Rinfala as well.

Had she known, perhaps Talis would have jumped out of the way. Or perhaps if she hadn't been so thoughtless. Either way, as the green pit viper stumbled angrily towards the Candidates, all the petite girl could do was throw her arms over her head, flinching back as the green reared, surprise by the sudden motion. She felt the dragons claws dig a gash in the side of her back, the wound stretching from just below her arm down to her waist, the white candidates robes shredding like tissue paper. As it was, she grabbed onto Mo yet again, this time for a different type of support.

The brown paused at that moment, his eyes watching the ordeal and the green with a slightly concerned expression. Looking over the rest of the candidates, his eyes fell to the ill ones, concern deepening. Only then did he turn back to his, moving slowly towards him, quickening a little when he saw that he was about to leave.

NotosMine, please do not leave without Yours, the brown moved forward with a confidence and sureness often found in browns, his multi-faceted eyes calm despite the mild chaos around him. The brown lifted one of his hand-like claws, placing it in a surprisingly gentle manner on Notos' leg, careful not to scratch him in any way, nor put any holes in the Candidates robes. Sitting back on his haunches, the boa's calm, collected emotions flowed easily into the boy, the brown's attention never wavering, despite the panic around them.

Your clutchmates are ill... may we help? If there is anything your Asceth can do, it will be done.

The green spun once more, even more excited now that there were squealing Candidates running around, trying to avoid her, yet at the same time still keeping fairly close, in case she was hers. It was her own fault, of course -- had she not been in such a rush to get away from her egg, she would not have stumbled, would not have run into that Candidate, and would not have stumbled into the group. But dragonets didn't think rationally, and in the heat of the moment, the pit viper was surrounded by the chaotic and worried thoughts.

Stopping suddenly, the Pit Viper stared at a girl close by, her red eyes whirling.

AriaenMine.

The green turned her head to either side of her, hissing once at those closest to her and moving quickly towards the girl, the sand still clinging to her body from when she had fallen. She looked a little wild still, but at the same time it was obvious she was calming down, her eyes darting a little to those around her before settling back on Ariaen, her expression clearly distressed, like a child who was about to cry.

AriaenMine, your Sikatcuath... your Sikatcuath needs you... she is sorry, but she is ANGRY. She's being cornered, and they are all squealing! Make them stop squealing, Yours only wants to be with you.

Notos had been about to leave, the chaos around them being one of the reasons. He had his back to the hatching, which might thave accounted for why he didn't notice the brown that hatched. Or the green that seemed to be rampaging about, injuring several of the females.

The voice entering his head, 'NotosMine, please do not leave without Yours' had him jarred back to the hatching. He was hesitant to turn, lest it turned out that he was mistaken. Or he was hearing things.. feeling something tug at his legs. He finally turned to see a small brown sitting on its haunches, staring back at him. The hopes that had been dimming inside of him, rose up again. He had seen most of his friends impress, resigned himself to the fact that he would not impress this time around. But he had. And that fact alone was enough to put the male into a state of amazement.

It was unmistakable. The connection had been made. And it would never be severed, Notos realized as he knelt down to the brown. His hands lightly skimmed over the forehead of the small dragon, as if to make sure that this wasn't an illusion. I won't leave. Notos hastened to reassure the little brown, his arms wrapping around its neck.

The mixed feelings that Notos felt, the calmness radiating into his thoughts, and his own thoughts that was previously disturbed. There was no way to describe this, his golden orbs filled with expression.

Your clutchmates are ill... may we help? If there is anything your Asceth can do, it will be done. Notos smiled, a gentle smile at that. "No.. We've helped as much as we can. It's the healer's job to do what they can now." Asceth accepted this with a nod, although his expression was slightly inquisitive.

"You must be hungry.." Notos murmured softly, leading the dragon away to where he should be. There was some concern for the spreading sickness, and the girls that had been injured by the dragonet. But another glance showed that they were recovering, and his concern for Asceth eclipsed everything else. "Let's go."

And then there were two. The rest of the eggs had hatched, leaving behind the remnants of their shells and a few places of disrupted sand. The chaos had begun to die down slowly, very slowly, as healers ans S'kagi took care of the situation. Things were beginning to settle back down to how the hatching had been in the beginning, a more calm environment, with the Candidates waiting with bated breaths. The queen egg was one of the ones left there on the sands -- the sight that all the girls had come to see, and hoped to Impress. The carpet python was the other egg, both seeming unusually still. Perhaps it was just that everyone had been so caught up with the violence that had ensued before, that this calm merely felt unusual.

Or maybe it was just the calm before the storm.

It was the queen egg who began to quiver first, her large egg drastically overshadowing the small carpet pythons, and within a few moments the Cobra egg had hatched, revealing the gold dragonet. She was everything that could be expected from a queen -- poised, even after just hatching, raising her head up to an even level and spreading her wings, flicking a piece of shell off it.

Within the few moments that the Cobra looked around, the carpet python began to shake, tumbling onto the sands with considerably less grace, her tail raised as if to try to balance herself, although she were already in the sand. Letting out a surprise squeak, the green pushed herself up with a little effort, stumbling a little and running almost face-first into the Cobra, who stood perfectly still, despite how the python almost barreled right into her. Instead, she merely toppled into the sands before her, as if a sacrifice before some goddess.

The entire Hatching Grounds echoed with the collective gasp.

The carpet python let out another squeal, this time more of fright and instability than confusion, scrambling up hastily before the large queen and hissing with an unsure anger and fear at her, her position defensive. The Cobra continued to watch, blue eyes calm, although she lifted her wings higher, as if to make herself look bigger.

The sands were completely quiet. Moments passed without anyone daring to breathe. The Cobra moved slowly, the first of the two to do so, and all eyes watched her.

She bowed.

In that instant the carpet python both relaxed and tensed at the same time, the honor bestowed on her sending the poor dragonet reeling, both mentally and physically. Stumbling away from the confrontation that had just happened, she moved towards the Candidates almost desperately.

MeryaMine? She called, looking around at the girls before her eyes fell on the girl. The carpet python approached, her legs much more stable than they had been before, her confidence boosted by the bow from the Cobra. You touched my egg, didn't you? I felt it. the green paused again, straightening more and approaching Merya more certainly, more sure of herself with every step she took. Still, there was an unsteadiness there, one that could certainly require the girl to catch the dragonet if she fell, and not just in the physical sense.

Mine, Anidanth needed you. Before the Cobra could find Hers, your Anidanth needed you. Please take Yours... she will not know what to do if you do not want her.

Something is very wrong.

Shards, would he ever get used to that soft, sweet voice? It felt so right to hear it in his mind, but Jiriar--no, J'riar couldn't still quite believe his good fortune. But he could feel the outright indignation and shock from his little green that he'd even consider he was not good enough for her, and had to make a fond sound at her. She was so gentle with him, opening her tooth-lined maw politely for him to poke in small bits of already cut meat.

That was before he watched the green hatchling viciously maul some of the candidates, recoiling with shock. Ianquith snapped her head up, eyes beginning to whirl with mirrored distress. Oh, oh, oh... She fretted, leaning into the comfort of her weyrmate as he unconsciously reached out to drape an arm around her neck.

Easy, sweetheart, easy...

And that was when the gold broke free, the gasp of the crowd seeming to suck the motion out of everyone on the sands. Even more shocking was when the patterned green spilled forth, hissed at the queen as though both defensive and afraid. What would the gold creature do? She was brilliant, the way she furled her wings open like that... but Jiriar realized with a start, she was as bright as a dying glow when compared with his Ianquith. The dragonet in question was tense and afraid, though unexpectedly sighed--just as the queen dipped her head to the gold and allowed her to choose first.

From the reactions of everyone, clearly this was not a normal event. The herder blinked and brushed his bangs from his face as the little green quickly made her choice, settling back with a low sound. Shards... Was that S'kagi, over there? That girl near him (leaning on him, in fact) looked pretty terribly injured.

She is a good, kind queen. Was all Ianquith would offer, and Jiriar couldn't possibly disagree.

This was the last dragon. The last to stand before the Candidates was the Cobra, who, wonder of all wonders, had bowed to the green who had stumbled before her, letting her find Hers before even she herself found her rider. Her eyes had followed Anidanth, watching her Impress, having long-since straightened. It was her turn now, the last of her clutch, and the one everyone had been eagerly watching. It was not surprising that she was the last to stand there, scanning the Candidates with an unreadable look in her eyes. There was a regalness about her that, while she did not do anything to try to divert everyone's attention from other things, obviously captured it anyway with no effort. This, however, seemed to do less to do with her color and more to do with her personality. Had she been a green, it was easy to see that this girl's personality would have shown through no less brightly than it did now.

It seemed to take much longer than it actually did for the gold to lock eyes with a girl, everyone holding their breath as the small queen taking her first steps towards the group of Candidates.

NandeliMine

There was no hesitation in the deep, feminine voice as the Cobra moved with a serpent's grace towards the girls, glancing towards a few of the others before moving around them to get to the girl who would be Hers.

NandeliMine, you are bright. I could see it from there, you shown quite brightly in my eyes. Your thoughts are so warm. You talk to all... please teach me to do the same. Your Reneneth wants to be a worthy Queen.

Notos, no.. N'tos now had been in the process of cutting up small bites of meat, when he was aware of the brown's attention diverting towards the sands. "The Queen." He said simply, needing no further explanation. All dragons would be aware of their queen after all.

"No.. not that." Asceth said to him, calmly. "That is not it." His gaze remained fixated on the green, drawing Noto's gaze towards it also. What he saw at the grounds made him wince, seeing a confrontation that was very much like the bronzes earlier.

The tension made both dragon and rider stiffen, wondering what results would come from the confrontation... For the better? Or the worse? And then.... the queen backed down, graciously allowing the green her chance to choose Hers first. The sight of a queen bowing down elicited surprise from the brownrider. He hadn't been at many hatchings, but N'tos knew that it was certainly not typical behavior of a Queen. Still, he felt the tension ease from between dragon and rider, allowing himself a sigh.

"Our queen is well." Asceth mentioned, allowing a comforting feeling to flow into Notos. D'you think so? It was phrased as a question, but it was agreement actually. Notoso made a note to find out who the queen had bonded with.. he would probably see her later at the hatching feast.

Another thought poured into his head, this time, tinged with a little hunger. "Now, feed me?" Aesceth tilted his head, wondering if he had offended his rider. "Of course." Notos said, giving him another handful of meat. He didn't think he was going to get over the fact that he had impressed. It had felt like he had known Asceth for most of his life.. yet, it had only been minutes that he had sat here feeding his brown.
