"Oh probably...." Lore admitted, "The idea that anyone who can actually shapeshift would be hard to wrap one's mind around though...."
He leaned in and told Elnara truthfully and with a smile. Lore thought she would find this interesting.
"Shapeshifting is one of the abilites commonly found in kitsunes, it goes along with their trickster history."

Elnara's eyes grew wide, and she turned to Lore in amazement.
"Really?" she breathed, almost laughing. "That's ... wow. I almost wonder what would happen if I changed into one of them." She giggled and reached for Lore's hand, squeezing it tightly. "Don't worry, I won't," she assured him. "But it does make me wonder."
Would they notice an impostor in their ranks? Or simply pay her no mind, thinking it one of their own illusions?

Which reminded him.... Lore laughed at that and squeezed back.
"I'm not worried at all, that reminds me though.... you might notice there are many people here browsing the stalls who have fox ears and tails, but a second set of ears as well compared to the stall owners...."
Normally he wouldn't say because it would ruin it, but since Elnara did in the past have issues about her own shapeshifting it was probably wise to warn her first.
"Those are not kistune, some of the food is rigged to temporary give fox ears and a tail, it's an illusion but a very convincing one."

Elnara was glad he had warned her, because she had indeed noticed the strange number of kitsunes walking around.
"So with every item eaten that's rigged like that," she mused, "they would grow another set of ears and tail?"
She giggled. "It would certainly show who is a glutton at the end of the night."
Maybe they should pick some up for all of the children. Hana and Garrick would love it, she was sure. And the others, well, they were always up for fun.
"I'm sure the effects must not last long then, right?" she asked.

"Nah.. just once, I think.... they claim not all the food is, but they never tell you which and since I've never seen anyone leave without a set, I would say... it can only happen once, I don't know how they do that, and it lasts for roughly twelve hours so they make sure it's for at least the duration of the festival," Lore laughed a bit.
He grinned, knowing they had done experiences of course he knew there were rumours it lasted longer, but he was sure because they also rigged the pocky which was taken home by other unsuspecting people.
"It's kind of weird, you touch it it's there, but you know it's not there because you can't feel the touch..."

Elnara frowned softly, trying to figure it all out in her mind. If it only worked once then ... those with two sets of ears were real kitsunes who had eaten their own rigged food?
"It would be interesting to take some home and see what happens to the children," she commented with a mischievous grin.

"Knowing Garrick he'll try to eat the tail," Lore replied softly though he was clearly amused by the idea.
Not to say Hana wouldn't, both were at that age where they would stuff nearly anything into their mouths. Sitting down and patting the sit beside him he noted a few humans (from their round ears) passing by who had obviously eaten the food due to the foxy ones on top of their heads.
The tuning for the string instruments were done and the three women were beginning to play. The plucking of the strings on the zither giving a strange haunting tone.

Elnara giggled. "Is it possible?" she asked. "I mean, you said if you try touching it, it's there but at the same time not ... what did you mean by that?"
She made herself comfortable next to Lore and looked up at him curiously just as the haunting music began to play. A shiver ran up her spine, and she nestled against Lore to listen. It was beautiful ... hauntingly so.

Lore leaned over so he could continue talking without disturbing anyone else.
"Well.... for a real kitsune their ears and tails are a part of their body just like our ears and other limbs are. If someone touches it, they can feel it, but since the addition ears and tails from the food is just an illusion it's not a part of you. So if you tugged your tail you couldn't feel it in the same way they would. It might feel like something is tugging but no more than if you tugged on your own clothes, but it is a full sensory illusion otherwise, so if you were the one to tug it, your hand could feel the fur, feel it, so you'd think it was there."

"Ah, I understand now," Elnara smiled. "And all of a sudden I'm wondering about hairballs. I have to keep an eye on Garrick lately because of the hairballs he started getting from Snowflake."
The first appearances of the blue hairballs had baffled her, and when she had understood where they had come from she had been horrified.

Lore blinked, he had heard of that but it was hard to believe at times. He wondered if Garrick was picking hair off the floor and eating it or he was chewing on Snowflake's tail.
"Always Garrick," Lore chuckled even though he had been a bit disturbed himself to find out where it was coming from, "I'm sure no hairballs, it's only an illusion after all."

Elnara giggled. "Good. Then I won't feel bad bringing home some of those sweets."
She put her fingers to her mouth self-consciously as some of the other listeners looked at her, and as they looked away she leaned closer to Lore and whispered softly, "But yes, always Garrick. Hana's growing out of that stage, thankfully. Still, they do both need watching."
She listened to the music and lay her head against Lore's shoulder comfortably.

Lore wrapped his arm around her waist as they listened together the musical production. When it ended the women picked up their instruments and walked off leaving another kitsune. A male ready to do a few magic tricks, or illusion tricks depending on how you looked at it.
"Ah.... we should also bring some for Celebor and his family," Lore added softly, "They might like that."
He would probably also have to bring Yuki and Tristan some as well... and Rune. Rune liked having fox ears and tail for a day, she found it amusing for some reason, she kept candy from the festival and only ate a piece when she felt like going foxy.

Elnara applauded along with the others as the musicians finished their score, and snuggled closer to Lore as the magician took their place. While he was preparing for his show, she looked up at Lore thoughtfully.
"We should make a point of going to visit them," she said softly. "And soon. It's already been so long since we've seen them - really visited with them - and you missed them when they went to the Borderlands ... you haven't even met half his family. And by now it will have already been several years for them ..."
As much as she missed Celebor, she could only imagine how he must feel, it being so many times longer for him.

"Indeed," Lore murmured thoughtfully.
And it wasn't enough to just hear from other people besides he had a feeling that they were leaving a few things out.
"Then that is what we shall do next weekend," he replied with a soft smile.
He looked up in time to see the kitsune do the old hat trick only to end up pulling his tail through the hat instead of a rabbit.
