Tumai watched him as he moved around with his eyes shut, presumably playing with whatever he saw behind those lids. She didn't question him, though she tilted her head in her own confusion. Children often puzzled her, even her own when she had them. Or, at least she could remember this feeling of wonder, but being charmed by it. If only she could remember their faces and names, and not just fleeting memories of how she felt when she was near them.
"You have a good point there," she smiled when he said puppies were just too cute. It was true. She could not imagine what kind of a creature someone would have to be to cause puppies harm on purpose.
Though, accidents were bound to happen. But that didn't make someone bad.
She smiled again, eyes glistening with the threat of tears, "I'm sure they'd love to be your friend..." she looked at his paw. Was she going to promise the pups she had lost would be his friends, or maybe, if she ever ventured to try it again, her next litter? She decided it would quietly be the latter, so that she wasn't instantly a liar. She placed her paw next to his, "I promise, if I ever have pups, they'll be your friends."

Jua's face lit up when she promised him; sure, he knew he probably wouldn't see her after this, but it was the thought that counted. "So it's set, then." his eyes became calm, thinking of all the new friends he was going to make once he left this place. He gazed up at the leaves rustling against each other in the tree above; he found it hard to say his goodbyes.
Though this meeting, with this adult, had proven a good distraction, and Jua could leave this place without regret. "I suppose...." he turned his head, eyeing the general direction of his home. "I might be missed right now." he bite his bottom lip, not wanting in the least to worry his twin with his absence.
"So!" he rapidly turned back so he was facing the female, a determined look upon his face. "We are in accordance now." his tone became stern, as if he were trying to sound like an adult. His paws moved up and down, anxious to return home, but he hated goodbyes.

Tumai smiled. It hurt her to think that she had just made a promise she might not remember. Before this whole fiasco she had always known her memory was bad, but she had never been so aware of it. Now she felt guilty just doing things on the chance that she'd forget them. It was a hard way to live, really, because she was beginning to feel anxiety about everything.
She nodded, "I wouldn't want your family to be worried. You should head out. It was nice talking to you..."
What was his name?
She couldn't remember. But she was luckily spared that embarrassment when he turned to her and spoke again, all but cutting her off anyway. She nodded, "we are. A promise is a promise."
She nudged him, half a nuzzle and half a push to get him going home. She stood just after, drawing a deep breath to steady herself.

Jua's paws seemed to shuffle awkwardly right before he left. His eyes were glued to them, never wanting to leave new 'friends.'
"It was my pleasure, miss Tumai." he smiled broadly, returning his gaze to her and bowing his head. His tail was wagging, but very slowly.
As she nudged him, his feet began to move faster, remembering his home and his family that he eagerly wanted to return to and tell them stories of his day out today.
