His daughter? Ebony blinked slowly at this sudden realization. At best she would have figured his little sister, but a daughter? It was somewhat startling to think this kind of man had a child. Given she didn't know him all that well, but by the aura he gave off, she never really figured him one to reproduce persay. And further more, who was this Sherris? His wife? The mother of this child? What would she think of him just gallivanting around with random women?

Regardless her opinion of the man at this point, Ebony saved face in front of the child. Removing her glasses, the woman stooped down so she could be face to face with the youth as best as possible and smiled. "Well ello there Noa. It's nice to meet you." She held up a hand to her face to pretend like she was keeping Jezabroux out of the 'secret' conversation then, but in all reality anyone close enough could hear her clearly. "I'm sorry your father is embarrassing you right now. He really shouldn't be telling strange people that you're shy when I'm sure you're not. He's just silly like all dad's are and doesn't understand that sometimes we just don't want to meet new people."

Jezabroux found the look of enlightenment on her face quite amusing. Right about now she was probably wondering who Sherris was. A wife? The mother? Those were the usual generalizations most clientele at the clinic came up with. In any case, it felt good that Ebony was approaching Noa on a level the child would have an easier time relating too.

The child let out a soft giggle. Almost like a strange chiming of bells or even the clear ringing of a glass cup. Leaning in closer to Ebony, the child mimicked her motion of putting her hand up to her face and whispered into Ebony's ear. "Papa is always silly." Noa couldn't help but find Ebony's mock game of leaving her father out amusing. It was something Sherris did with her often.

The child stepped away from Ebony and turned to look at her father and held up the book that formerly been held protectively in her arms. "Let's check out this book today papa. It has pretty pictures... and Sherie said she would even read the words for me."

Taking the book from Noa's out held hands, he scanned his eyes over the cover. "Bestiary of Mythical Creatures and Beasts...?" He certainly hadn't expected her to pick something like this out. Usually she preferred something with a little more substance, say like... books on Greek mythology. Opening the book the male couldn't but be amazed. True to the child's words the pages were graced with break taking illustrations of various creatures. Images of never heard creatures like monopods and other more common ones like a phoenix. The male flipped the page and stared before closing the book. "Hm... Another time Noa. I don't think your ready yet." The page he had seen was of a basilisk in the midst of devouring a man's head.

Ebony giggled too when Noa said her father was always silly. He really was in a way, she guessed, his earlier actions providing evidence to the fact. The Brit stood back up to her full height of five foot three and quietly took in the exchange between the two. Though the title of the book Noa was asking her father to check out had caught her interest then. It wasn't one she'd had a chance to look at yet.

"What's so wrong with her learning about mythical creatures? She might as well since so many of them have proven to be in existence, most especially here in Gaia." Ebony declared under the guise of being able to get the book in her hands as she reached out and removed it from his. She flipped to the contents and quickly scanned for that magical word, basilisk.

Once Ebony had gotten there, she immediately got why Jezabroux refused to get this book. No one would blame him for wanting to shield her from such a vision, even she wish she hadn't seen it now. Though she desperately wanted to know what the tome held information wise about the beast, the image depicted there only served to bring up hard memories. With a solemn face, Ebony closed the book. "Perhaps your father is right Noa. This book looks awfully hard to understand and...not very interesting really. Wouldn't you want a book that's more exciting rather than stuffy and boring?"

The child let out a pout. "But... that is the only book that has more information on Carbuncles. Noa doesn't care about anything else other than knowing about it." She was, without a doubt, headstrong like her mother. Clearly she wasn't about to relent without a decent explanation. One where time was not a fitting excuse.

Yet the child's disappointment was understandable. For weeks she had been in preparation for trying to catch a glimpse of a elusive Carbuncle. A mysterious creature sighted by Spanish Conquistadors around the 16th Century. All the other books that the two of them had looked at all had the same general information. They all stated the same thing, as if the authors had decided to plagiarize off each other.

There are few descriptions of what the creature looks like, although it is small with a kind of shining mirror or jewel on its head. The legend of the jewel grew up around the Carbuncle creature and many men have supposedly searched for it, hoping to find the precious stone, without success.

Picking up the child, Jezabroux placed a kiss on her cheek. "I know you want to see a Carbuncle darling, but some of the images inside the book are too graphic for a girl your age. Instead, after lunch we can come back and use the copy machine. What about that? That way we both get what we want. Noa, her information on Carbuncles and daddy a peace of mind."

Noa sat silent in the arms of her father before smiling and returning the kiss. "A compromise, right Papa? I accept." The child turned to look at Ebony. Her head was slightly tightly, her observation skills in high gear. The woman's eyes had lost their warmth and had a hard look.

Trying to displace the unpleasant image of the basilisk from her mind for the time being, Ebony flipped the pages to the creature in mention now. As she suspected a much better illustration was there for it, a slender, cat-like creature with a shining jewel placed in the middle of its forehead. "Oh, carbuncles? That's interesting! Yeah, we could come back later and copy the pages for it."

Handing the book back to Jezabroux, "They sound cute and mysterious, so I can see why you'd want to know more about them Noa." 'Unlike a certain other mysterious creature I know...' Ebony added silently to herself. Her smile back up, "So where do you two want to have lunch at?"
PostPosted: Fri Jul 31, 2009 6:33 am

Taking the book from Ebony’s out held hand, the male set it down on the table top. “Ah yes, lunch. I don’t really have a preference today. Do you two have any specific cravings or some place that suits your fancy?” As it was, he was the host for today but weren’t outings always better when everyone enjoyed the food? For all he knew she could be a vegan. Which would be quite uncomfortable if they when to a restaurant that meat with all of their dishes.

“Sherie said she saw one before. A carbuncle.” The child let a soft sigh. “Sherie is lucky.” When Ebony and Jezabroux mentioned food the child brightened up almost instantaneously. Aside from having a strong interest in animals, the child was being bred into quite the food critic; courtesy of her father. “Papa, we should go to Suecellos~ "

"I don't mind. Why don't you ask Ebony what she thinks? She might not like pasta."

"She did, did she? Well then she surely is lucky." Honestly, Ebony found it hard to believe that this 'Sherie' had seen such a creature if few others had. Then again the Brit hadn't meet this woman and knew nothing about her, so maybe the female had seen a carbuncle. After all there were few people to have notably survived seeing a basilisk, yet here she stood. At least if Noa came across a carbuncle it wouldn't be a life threatening situation. "Maybe you'll get lucky enough to see one too some day."

What people didn't know about Ebony was that she was not one to be precisely picky about her food being as she grew up with some days having to go without. And the days were she did get food were less than stellar, in fact the meals the orphanage provided weren't always fit for animal consumption let alone human. Thus as long as the food was handled and cooked properly, Ebony was usually happy. "I don't have any preferences. If Noa wants to go to this um, Suecellos, then I'm fine with that."

The child beamed at Ebony's words. "Papa is helping me prepare by teaching me how to make a little noise as possible in the woods!" The training was difficult but she found it enjoyable nevertheless. As her father was often occupied with running his clinic, any time they spent together was precious. Sherris on the hand.... she constantly skimped her clinic duties to play around with Noa. The child found it mildly annoying and grateful at the same time. Annoyance in inconveniencing her father and joy at being provided some sort of mental stimulation. Sherris apparently had the ability to answer any and all questions Noa could come up it.

"You'll like Suecellos. They have the largest pasta menu in Gaia~" It wasn't just an exaggeration at that. A five star restaurant, it had been shown on food networks on Gaia many times. A real Eden for anyone's taste buds. "Noa likes white sauce pasta and Papa likes salad.... with tomatoes. Yeck." The child made a face at the word as if to further reinforce her dislike for the fruit.

"I think you might enjoy Suecellos too. Shall we head out now?" Jezabroux had taken the time to write a note on the table for Sherris. Couldn't leave her thinking that someone had abducted Noa and stolen his belongings.

A young girl training in the woods...now where had she heard that one before? Ebony nodded in understanding as the conversation quickly moved from teachings to food. Now of course the purple haired female didn't know that Suecellos was a five star restaurant or much of anything else about it since the Brit didn't often watch television. Perhaps she'd found an inkling of it in the paper, but most likely had skimmed over it in her reading dubbing it uninteresting possibly. "It sounds lovely. I'm sure I will like it, thank you."

She waited for him to collect his/their stuff and scrawl a quick note to that mysterious lady that Noa had been so adamantly speaking of prior. Seriously now, who was this Sherris? Tempted as she was, Ebony remained quiet on the subject. Maybe it would come up naturally in conversation later. Offering a smile and a friendly hand to the girl if she wished to hold onto it while they departed, "Ready?"

When Ebony smiled and offered a hand to Noa, the child also responded by returning the smile and accepting it. "To Suecellos!" The child cried out with much enthusiasm. While at the same time keeping it quiet enough to avoid being reprimanded by the librarians.

"Lets head off then." Closing the messenger bag flap, the male raise the strap over his head. When the bag was 'properly in place' he looked down at Noa. "Do you want to lead the way?"

The child made no audible reply, instead she gently yet forcefully began leading Ebony to the front of the library.

Although Jezabroux couldn't have known one of her biggest weaknesses was children, Ebony couldn't help silently damning him. Noa was just adorable enough to balance out whatever faults she saw in the father. It wasn't fair for guys to play dirty like that, it really wasn't. Not that the Brit held any sort of grudge towards the man, just she couldn't exactly figure him out yet. He was a lot like a certain Asian she knew in that she wasn't sure how to read him persay. Yet unlike David, at least Jezabroux didn't deliberately try to piss her off.

With the younger girl eagerly leading the way, "Is the restaurant far from here? If not we could walk there." Also, she didn't want to get too far from the place since she really did need to get back to her research later today. And getting a copy of those pages from that book Noa wanted would definitely help even if the drawing of the basilisk upset her.

"It's about two blocks down. Not too far. Of course if you'd like to return to your research we could just eat at a cafe three buildings left of the library." Pushing up his sunglasses with his middle and fore finger the male turned to look at Ebony. "Not to pry, but may I ask what you were researching on? I might be able to help. I tend to come to the library often so I know where a lot of the subjects can be found." As the group of three approached the door, Jezabroux grabbed the handle and held it open for Ebony and Noa to pass through first. "Ladies first." The male said. A smile on his face.

"Thank you papa." The child said in response as the passed through the door. Once Noa was outside the build, the child turned to look at Ebony. "What kinds of food does... Should Noa call you Miss Shade?" The child had hit a mental block there. Her father had taught her to address adults with respect, calling them by their first name was not something she was accustomed to.

"I don't have to get back to work right away Jezabroux. Sometime later today would suffice. Thank you." she said while he held the door open for the two girls. She was stuck on what to say about her research though. It wasn't like it was some big secret, not that Doctor Kyou or any of the Lab's staff or associates had made it sound like it was or sworn her to secrecy. Even if it was, it wouldn't be for long what with plenty of Raevans floating about and all.

No, Ebony was concerned about speaking of the basilisk in front of Noa, steel orbs taking a quick glance to the child now. Surely if her father hadn't wanted her to read about it in that book, then she shouldn't bring it up else the girl grow curious and grill them for information. "Um, well...what I was researching was something for a project I'm a part of at the moment. I was looking up some information on a certain creature, something you might have glimpsed in that book?" Ebony hoped he got where she was getting at and that his daughter didn't take any of this part of the conversation to heart.

Speaking of the girl...the Brit smiled and replied, "You may call me Ebony deary. No need of any of that Miss Shade business. Though if you prefer, you may call me Miss Ebony instead. And I like all kinds of food. I'll try anything once. What kind of foods do you like?"

"Oh... you're researching about the basilisk?" The male turned to his companion and gave her an amused look. "There's no need to be secretive Miss Ebony. Noa is quite knowledgeable regarding the creature. As you stated earlier, Gaia is quite full of these mythical creatures and it's rather quite beneficial to know some facts regarding the beasts that call this planet their home." Running a hand through his white bangs the male smiled as he looked ahead. "Furthermore, my disapproval was aimed towards the image within the book not the creature itself."

Taking long strides the male adjusted his sunglasses before speaking again. "I apologize if you thought that I had deemed Noa to young to know about such a creature. The books we browsed through in the past carried much information on the beast but had images that were much... more pleasant. In fact..." Turning to look at Noa, the male waited for his daughter to finish her response to Ebony before speaking once more. "Noa, would you like to tell Ebony about what you know about the basilisk?"

"Yes Miss Ebony." The child gave her a smile. It was a pretty name really. Not like her name. Noa. It was so... plain. "I like... Noa likes pasta and saladand dark chocolate!" The child let out a peal of giggles before giving the woman a serious look. "But Noa will not eat cows or piggies or chickies. That's like murder." When her father called her name the child looked up. Upon hearing his request, one could almost see her eyes grow large like stars with delight. Animals, oh yes, how she loved creatures.

Taking Ebony's hand in her own, the child looked up to the woman with glittering eyes. Oh how she loved to speak about the creatures that lived on Gaia. "Miss Ebby is looking for information on the basilisk? Noa can tell Miss Ebby EVERYTHING about the basilisk." It was only the first meeting between Noa and Ebony and the child had already given the woman a nickname.

Clearing her throat the child waited before talking. Yes, she wanted Ebony to hear everything she said. If Ebony was researching the basilisk then it was important for her to know every facet regarding the beast. Even though information regarding the creature's appearance differed, they all carried the same theme. A basilisk wasn't something one wanted to run into, it was dangerous and meeting one meant a certain death. "The basilisk is often connect with the cockatrice. Of course it is all speculation as most people haven't seen on."

The look of wide-eyed surprise couldn't be missed on the woman's face at Jezabroux's excited blurting of the mythical creature in question. The fleeting look soon composed as her acquaintance continued on in his explanation. Nodding, Ebony looked down to view the small child once more, this time with a bit more scrutiny. She couldn't help it, finding it hard to believe that this girl could possibly know anything more on the beast that she hadn't already come across.

A slight crinkling of her brow was her response to the sudden nickname that was being flung upon her. For whatever reasons, Ebony had never really liked such things. The shortening of her name in any way, shape or form that is. Although this she had always kept to herself, just like she would now, believing it to be rude manners to decline the name(s). After all, she didn't really want to hurt anyone's feelings over something so trivial. Least of all little Noa's.

Brow smoothing out quick to mask her minor objection, "I see. Well then I suppose I can speak freely about my project then." As they walked, Ebony thought carefully of where to start. The beginning she soon thought obviously. "There is a lab in Gambino run by a scientist known as Doctor Kyou. He uses a mixture of science and magic to create beings known as Raevans. There are two crucial ingredients to making a Raevan; something called a Fel Essence and the latter a soul. I can't say I know what constitutes as an essence exactly, but those are provided by the Lab thus of no real concern to a Guardian, that's what they call us, such as myself."

"The soul on the other hand..." She continued, "...well that's all up to the guardian to utilize the equipment provided to capture one. I wasn't sure what to go after, but an accident lead to me capturing the soul of a basilisk. And I'll tell you right now, it was more snake than bird that's for sure." Ebony sighed, her tanned skin seeming to pale at the memories of the horrid event while her silver eyes dulled just in the slightest. "So you see, I figured while the doctor was busy bringing my Raevan to life, I would try to iron out some facts about its...former life. Any more information you could provide me with would be beneficial and much appreciated."
