Hitsuga's eyes wander between Boyan, the shaped molds on the table, and back to Boyan once more, flinching a bit beneath what seems to be a growing sort of desperation in the older male's projections.
Deciding it would probably not hurt to leave the mixture on the counter sitting a FEW minutes longer, he moves to pick up the one that Boyan is gesturing at.
These are the ones he laid down to cool about an hour ago, he explains, running a finger over the backs of them, testing their firmness. And they SHOULD be almost ready....
Finding that the soap no longer indents beneath his fingertip, he turns the mold over on the tabletop, giving it a sharp tap with the heel of his hand.
When he lifts it away, three yellow-hued smiling duck-shaped soaps all smelling strongly of citrus fruit stare blankly up at the ceiling.

Projections still unintelligible, Boyan immediately scoops up one of the soaps, cradling it gingerly in his hands.

Hitsuga seems a bit perplexed by how enthralled Boyan seems to be with the hand soaps, but...
.....all right, then. To each his own, he supposes. sweatdrop
He takes the opportunity to overturn the other molds, tapping out their finished products as well. A trio of yellow seahorses, followed by a threesome of yellow frogs join the two remaining ducks on the table, the tang of oranges and lemons meeting the scent of flowers in the air.

And Boyan, oblivious to the frogs, the seahorses, the citrus scents, and Hitsuga, quickly scoops up the other two ducks as well.
Hitsuga's been making himself some friends! blaugh

Some....friends?
It takes him a moment to realize what Boyan means as he returns to the counter, picking up the pot of cooling pink goo to transfer it to the beaker.
Oh. OH.
He chuckles a bit, picking up a pair of potholders to not burn himself on the glass as he pours the soap into the waiting molds on the countertop. More ducks, more seahorses, and what looks to be some shells.
Well, its his HOPE people might want to buy them once he gets his shop opened, he explains, turning back to see all three ducks being cradled by the oracle.
....but Master Boyan may have those if he likes? As they seem to make him rather happy?

Any more ducks, Boyan fears, and his wife will be making him sleep on the sofa for good.
But that is hardly the point! The point is that Hitsuga had so lovingly created these ducks... He's their daddy!
Boyan thinks they'll be happiest with him!

Their....what?
He blinks slowly, absorbing this, mulling it over and....
....
Privately, he wonders if Boyan honestly IS referring to the soaps as if they are alive.... neutral
Tapping the molds on the countertop to bring any bubbles in the liquid mixture to the surface, he carries them to the table to sit and dry, taking the now-empty molds back to the counter to be rinsed and receive whatever the next batch is he decides to make.
In doing so, he tries to keep conversation going. He was not aware Master Boyan collected ducks...

Boyan's attachment to duckies goes WAY back-- did Hitsuga know? Did he know? Boyan's very first present from a girl was a rubber duck! And it was his BEST FRIEND... right up until Melody was born, and there was a bit of an incident with Nusumu and scissors and...
Boyan prefers not to think about that. He has Squeekyduck Jr. now, and he also has so many other ducky friends! 3nodding
Actually, now that Boyan thinks about it... he and Squeekyduck go further back than he and soap did! But that was... kind of... well...
He shifts awkwardly, as if dredging up memories he'd rather not remember.

As he listens to the story, understanding dawns on Hitsuga as he realizes its less that Boyan believes the soaps are living, breathing entities so much as he believes they're alive in the same way a child believes their favorite toys are.
Offering Boyan assurances he needn't expand if he would rather not, Hitsuga eyes the soaps still on the tabletop, frowning a bit at the unappealing jagged edge on one of the frogs.
He can relate a bit, though, he goes on as he crosses the kitchen to open a drawer and take out a small paring knife. He'd had a stuffed koi fish when he'd been a little boy who, for four years, had been his best friend.
....until his mother had decided it was getting ratty and had thrown it away, at least sweatdrop

At this, Boyan is horrified.
And his mother had just... thrown it away? gonk That's... that's so sad...!
He takes a moment to compose himself, mind whirling with "what-if" scenarios. What if June had simply tossed Squeekyduck when he got old? He... he can't even IMAGINE it.
...Ahem.
...Squeekyduck's fate was, ah... violent, Boyan explains. Shortly after Melody and Tsuyoshi were born, Boyan had allowed her to play with Squeekyduck. She loved the toy, actually, until she clamped her little toothless gums on Squeeky's head and caused him to, well, squeak.
She was so frightened of him -- and all ducks, actually -- for quite some time. But that day, when she cried and hid her face in Boyan's robes, Nusumu, in an attempt to cheer Melody up, brought Squeekyduck back out and presented him to Melody.
Which made things worse.
With Melody shrieking and sobbing with fear and Boyan cross with her for frightening Melody, Nusumu took Squeeky into the bathroom and, with her scissors, sliced him to ribbons, believing him to be the cause of all their collective troubles.
It was one of the few times in his life that Boyan had gotten angry, he recalls, but the incident is ancient history. Boyan and Nusumu are as close as siblings, after all. There was no way Boyan could not forgive her. 3nodding

He assures Boyan he's had many years to get over it. Its all right, really. Life made sure he had much bigger things to worry about to the point that he was not given much time to worry about a toy fish.
Behind the wall of his mind, where no one but him can hear, he adds that she would later do to him what she'd done to his koi.
....but as Master Boyan said, ancient history, yes? 3nodding
Picking up the frog, he examines where the best place to begin on the ragged edge would be before applying the blade of the knife to it, slowly shaving off the excess in a thin, yellow curl.

Hitsuga's eyes shift momentarily to Boyan as his projections, once more, seem to take on a drastic change.
....and it clicks for him as he makes the connection between Nusumu scissoring Boyan's beloved Squeeky to death, and what it must look like for him to be taking a knife to the soap.
.....he....will not hurt it, he assures the elder. sweatdrop
