Tauro watched with glee at Gerda's dramatic reunion with Novik. Gerda was a good mom... experience probably won from trial and error with her earlier brood. Were there lots of errors, or was it outside forces that caused her first four children to end up the way they did? Tauro staunchly believed it was outside forces--Gerda's age, the sire, and the pack environment of Gomorrah. Everything seemed set against her sister.
But now there was a second chance, and Tauro was here to make sure it went well. She laughed and wagged her tail as Novik struggled against Gerda's ministrations. "Yes, yes... Switch." She put her nose to the ground again, searching for the white boy.

In the short distance that the white pup had blended into, he could hear his mother falling prey to Novik's swift attack and gentle paw. Fidgeting there, he could feel his excitement grow, both transformed in a still body instinctually frozen to the point even his panting has ceased and what breath he took came in short little silent gasps. Wide eyes seemed to scope the area, wider still in an attempt to see them coming, which was impossible for the lame-sighted youth. Despite this, his ears were pinned in their direction, hearing their paws hurry forward right after him. Was there actually a chance he could still get up and run back behind them before he was discovered? No, it seemed they were already upon him.
