"She's not gonna rust or anything when she gets a bath, is she?" Shade asked, now even more curious. "I mean, that'd really be a pain in the--" He stopped himself in time. "Bottom."
"I doubt she'll rust," Antony said. "But why on earth did you get her when you ordered books? Have you called the company you ordered from?" He seemed content to let her do whatever she wanted with his hand.

Jack looked concerned at the suggestion and turned his attention back to his daughter more fully. "God, I hope she doesn't rust," he muttered to his roommate. "That'd be somethin' chronic. It'd be the tin woodsman all over again, right? Maybe I better start askin' around about carin' for baby cyborgs."
Regina sighed, a soft noise of contentment, the first noise she had made since Jack and she came through the door. Smiling more, she spread Antony's fingers wide and then held up his hand. She pressed her own much-smaller palm to his and nodded, pleased.
"Oh. Books." Jack shook himself back to the present to answer Antony's question. "No number on the crate. Highly dodgy, y'know? I went to the place that was supposed t' ship the books an' the poor bloke got a crate, too." He grinned. "Max's lil one is a lot noisier than Regina here."

"Really," Shade said. "Remind me not to order anything from there." One kid was enough for him. Although a little girl that looked like Ice would be-- He shrugged it off.
"So where is she going to sleep?" Antony asked, smiling at her. "Your hand is going to get bigger," he promised her. "But it'll probably never be quite as big as mine."

Regina's smile widened into something that could only be called a beam and she hugged Antony's hand awkwardly before releasing him. Jack laughed a bit at the sight and shook his head. Antony the would-be lady-killer. Right. Clearing his throat, though, he bought time with a shrug. "My room for now, I reckon," he answered. "It's big enough an' I can put a crib in next to Adam's." He paused. "I don't think she'd be okay bein' left alone yet."

"True," Antony said quietly. "But I'm sure both she and Adam will be growing soon enough."
Shade just smiled slightly, watching the little girl and his boy. He had a point, though. Jack would need more space soon.

"Yep. I'm already thinkin' on it. The soft wall behind the library should do nicely for an extension." Incomprehensible as it sounded, it was just Jack - who could do with magic what a painter does with a brush. Usually. He settled back in his chair and watched Regina release Antony's hand and hug herself. "I need t' reset the wards, anyway," he added mildly, not looking directly at either Shade or Antony. "Somethin' pushed at 'em a few weeks back an' my patch job won't hold forever. No point in lettin' things get unsafe, right?"

"Heh," Shade said. "I wonder what." He still didn't look at Antony. "But we should get going. It's about time for our afternoon jog. And this weekend we've got a few colleges to go visit, so I figure that's as good a time to reset your wards as any, right?"

Jack nodded amiably. "Sounds like a plan," he agreed. "I'll reinforce Antony's room, too. Alright, lad?" He grinned at his nephew of sorts. "You're growin' like a weed. Don't want that t' interfere with the magic holdin' your place together."
With that disquieting statement, Jack stood and stretched. Regina looked up at him and her arms immediately went up and out in the classic "up" gesture. He laughed and obliged. "Well, I reckon I better get princess here into her bed. Yeah? I'll see you both in a bit."
