"I guess I was lucky to be a spring foal," Brioso grinned; from the sound of things, it seemed like the perfect season for exploration! Summer was too hot, winter was too cold, and fall... Well, she hadn't experienced fall yet, but it probably didn't have that much food to try! She took careful steps as she trotted behind the stallion, still not used to the mountain's conditions; secretly, the filly wondered if she'll ever get used to it.
"Your wife?" The new piece of information made her perk up, and her eyes widened in mild surprise. She knew that she was probably going to meet Grencia's family and herd since she would be staying in their territory, but isn't this just a little too fast? Despite the confidence she had in herself, Brioso started to wonder what sort of a mare Grencia's mate must be like... Will she welcome her to stay as a student? Maybe she is even a great heroine in her own right!
Trying to sound composed, the filly continued speaking, "So... Well, um, how do I address her, mister Grencia?"

Mister Grencia?
A soft laugh bubbled up and erupted from his chest. It had been a long time since he had been addressed in such terms and he shook his head. He was not one for formality unless in tense circumstances. If it was a dispute then such royalties were required, but for one such as her the need for 'mister' was definitely not there. Glancing over his shoulder, he fixed his gaze on the filly for a few moments before returning it to the pathway that lay ahead - he certainly couldn't fault Brioso's parents for raising her with manners.
"Just Grencia," he ammended and swung round another corner. He brushed the tips of his wing against a low lying rock as warning for her to keep her head down and proceeded on. "As for my wife... her name is Yei so I would assume you would address her as 'Yei'." He fell silent at this as he proceeded up a slope, from here the climb became steep again and he was adamant that no accidents occur. This would be the last hike upwards before they reached the plateau and where they would be staying for the evening... with any luck, Yei would indeed have returned home by then.
"Rest assured, we are not a herd that relies on such formalities. Some soquili will ask you to call them by their full name such as Ambroise but for the most part there is no need for any more than that. Just refer to us by name and you will experience no problems," he offered up this piece of advice casually and pressed on, giving on last heave as he came onto the plateau and was greeted by the sight of the smoke rising in the distance, a hint of the peak of a teepee visible on the rocky horizon.

"Yes, Mis- Um... Yes, Grencia," The filly forced out the name, squeaking a little towards the end; she was so used to calling the winged stallion 'mister' that it felt weird to have to change it in such short notice. However, judging from the laugh, Brioso gathered that he was more amused than upset at the way she was addressing him... At the thought, she smiled, rather pleased with herself for no real reason.
"Yei," She echoed with a nod, her voice a little shaky from the nervousness stemming from the prospects of meeting Grencia's mate. At the advice, she nodded again; living in a herd sure is somewhat different! Climbing up after the stallion, Brioso panted heavily, eyes scanning the horizon as she tried to catch her breath; it really was flat! Just like Grencia had said! Then, frowning, she narrowed her eyes, "Is that... Smoke?"

"Yes, that would be smoke," Grencia replied agreeably. "Controlled smoke - the human who lives in the teepee nearby lacks the warm coat we do," he chuckled softly and shook his head. Silent Wolf did his utmost to stay warm without resorting to such things, but on occasions the poor human had to subject the mountain side to a small camp fire here and there. He was an unassuming sort and never involved himself in the business of Islagiatt unless it was absolutely necessary e.g. the time he had saved Yei's life and the evening he had spent bandaging and strapping Grencia's broken wing. Suffice to say, despite his quiet life the human couldn't deny it didn't have it's interesting moments.
"He often makes small fires to warm himself, though I doubt you will see him. Perhaps in passing but he prefers to work on his own tasks as opposed to interrupting our daily lives," he glanced round at the panting filly and came to a halt briefly so she could catch her breath. With such thin air around it was going to be more difficult and he could place that into consideration at the very least. He took these few moments to pause, his ears swivelling back and forth while he surveyed the horizon. He was pleased to see that nothing had blown up for the duration of his absence at least - his son was definitely the competant sort...they all were.
"When you are ready to continue we will walk on, it is only a little way until we come to a halt completely."

Brioso took in quick breaths, focused on recovering from the climb. Smoke - the last time she saw smoke was when she stumbled upon some two leggers who were having a camp of sorts in the forest... Needless to say, she immediately ran awa-
"Human?" It was more of an exclamation than a question, and the filly suddenly forgot about her exhaustion. She recognized that word... It was another name for those weird, clumsy two leggers! It was obvious that she was both shocked and distressed from her expression; she had thought that the herd territories were safe, free - or at least almost free - from danger since from what Grencia had told her, most of them were warriors... So what was a two legger doing in a place like this? Most importantly, why was Grencia treating it as something ordinary? Does the herd offer sacrifices to the monster for safety?
"Why... Why is it here?" She fidgeted, staring at the smoke in the distance. Her mind had tuned out most of what the stallion had mentioned about the human, and she suddenly felt very insecure about being in such unfamiliar surroundings despite Grencia's presence. Taking a step towards him, she nodded nervously, "Lets move on, mis- Grencia..."

"He lives here," Grencia refrained from furrowing his brow at her reaction. He had known that there were certain soquili in the world that shied away from the attentions of man, but it had been quite some time since he had last met one quite so skittish. Evidently, the filly had suffered some type of trauma regarding their kind and while he had no place in enquiring about the exact event he made a note. If there was one thing that Brioso would need to learn it was that there were bad and good creatures of every species. Her encounter with humans may not have been a pleasant one but that didn't mean that Silent should be held accountable for it.
...He was a hermit after all.
Shaking his head, he dismissed the query for a little while longer until it became apparent that she would be staying right beside the teepee. It would be now or never, he would have to address the situation now to ensure she didn't have a fitful sleep. Luckily, his son would take her under his wing the next day but until then she would have to find some comfort around the human. He stopped and turned round once more to observe the filly who had drawn considerably closer to him for her own comfort and security.
"To my knowledge he was here long before this herd was. Without him my mate would be dead and without his recognition and appreciation of our existence we wouldn't have these lands," he smiled faintly and leaned down to nose the little one's cheek gently. "Rest assured that he is a clever creature though and if he senses you are unhappy he will keep his distance. He means no harm, I can promise you that."

Brioso's expression turned from one of mild horror to one of confusion. She would never, ever forget that day... She barely escaped alive! On the other hand, this human actually helped Yei, Grencia's mate? No, this human helped to establish the whole herd? Her train of thoughts, however, was interrupted by her teacher's touch, and she blushed, giving a slight smile; it was comforting... By no means as comforting as her mother's touch, but it helped her relax. She returned the nudge and her smile widened; if he said that it was fine, she must believe his words.
"I understand," She replied after a slight pause, her voice reasonably calmer than it was a while ago. Although she still don't really like the two-leggers in general, this one seems fairly decent. Looking up at Grencia as she trotted beside him, she continued speaking, "I'll try not to lose control of myself if I see him. He doesn't seem... To be... Well, what I'm trying to say is that he seems nice."
After all, heroines don't harm the innocent.

"Very good," Grencia murmured approvingly at her swift recovery. Though she was mildly uncertain she had taken her first steps as a warrior. She had shown true courage through her ability to consider an issue and all its angles before making a decision. With this in mind the smile upon his lips deepened and he proceeded towards the Teepee at a more relaxed pace. Green eyes flitted here and there as he sought out any sign of his mate's return - as of yet, they seemed to find no indication of her existence which was a little unusual...though not yet worrying. Yei was notorious for her wanderings and he hadn't actually been specific on the date he'd return home so he couldn't very well expect her to wait for him!
Nevertheless as they closed the gap between themselves and the teepee it became apparent that the human Brioso had been so uncertain about wasn't actually in. Grencia put this down to the shifting seasons, he was fairly certain that the human would be out hunting for the last of his herbs before the seasons turned over completely and they were no longer available. In a manner of speaking this certainly made things easier for the child, she could explore undisturbed and provided she didn't touch anything she could also inspect his lodgings. Having a sense of familiarity (if not understanding) tended to help soothe frayed nerves.
"Mmmm, neither of them are home," Grencia mused and shook his head. Unfurling a wing he expertly pulled apart one of the drapings around the 'door' of the teepee and nodded his head. "Why don't you have a look inside - I have to admit humans live in the most peculiar manner... don't you?"

"Really?" There was a hint of disappointment in her voice; and although she tried to hide it the best she could, it was still fairly obvious that she had been looking forward to something. The fact was, although she didn't really want to meet the two-legger so soon, especially since she still had reserves about his "motives", she had been looking forward to meeting Grencia's mate.
"Will she, um... I mean, they be back soon?" The filly asked as she followed, peeking into the teepee hesitantly. She hadn't actually been near a two-legger's home, but she had observed those 'villages', what she could only describe as a herd of humans, from afar... From the safety of the forest, of course. That way, she could run if she was spotted and not risk being in an open space.
She took a few more steps into the teepee to look at the interior better, but quickly looked up at the stallion. She frowned slightly, shifting about nervously, "Is it really okay for me to look inside?"

"My own children have been swift to explore it on a number of occasions," Grencia chuckled. The poor human's teepee had been 'ravaged' more than one by a curious foal or four. Each with interest piqued, determined to uncover the mysteries of the chinking and clinking that happened within. Usually the human was inside as well, and with the patience of a saint, permitted them to invade his personal space in their pursuit of knowledge. Suffice to say the silent and 'hairless' creature was a good sort - while Grencia wasn't fully prepared to trust all humans, he would most certainly embrace this one. "You are free to explore," he added with a small nod of encouragement.
Keeping the teepee entrance open a little with his wing to keep most of the heat inside, he lowered his head to inspect the interior. Suffice to say little had changed in the last few months, it was still piled high with pots and vials. They lay strewn about with mixing bowls and grinders on one side while a bed rested on the other. It was an organised sort of chaos, Grencia had no idea what the majority of the things did but he was confident that the human did.
Nevertheless, at the mention of his mate he sucked in a breath through his teeth and considered. She had left before him, given the gap between his departure and her own he was fairly certain she would have arrived first. Consequently the mare had to be in the territory somewhere, she was either visiting a family member or double checking it was safe. He was aware it was all theorycrafting but he was almost certain he was correct, it wasn't like his mate to delay anything. As if to prove this matter, the hoofsteps around the 'blind' side of the cliff face could be heard and he swivelled his ears round to receive them.
...He recognised those steps.
"Intruders!" The voice boomed from nearby, obviously female. Rounding the corner the bright red mare came to a halt and observed her 'home' as it was 'ravaged' by the so-called intruders. Her eyes narrowed in a theatrical fashion before she gave a soft giggle and shook her head. "Oooooh did you bring me back a present, Gren?" she cooed curiously at the sight of the tiny rump half hidden behind the flap of the teepee.

"Well, its interesting," Brioso replied as she took another step into the teepee, feeling somewhat braver with the stallion's encouragement. Her expression kept changing as her glance went from one object to the next - she felt curious, nervous and excited all at once. It felt like one of her own adventures from when she was a foal, exploring places her sister dreaded to go; of course, this "adventure" felt safer with Grencia around. Looking at him, she spoke again, "What are these things called? I often see the two-leggers near my home put things in some of these..."
Nothing looks threatening nor particularly scary, and for the first time in her life, she wished that she could understand the language of the two-leggers; there were so many things that she wanted to ask them! Of course, she still wasn't ready to trust them... Not until she was positive that they're not as bad as she thought they were.
Lifting a hoof, she prodded one of the nearby pots gently, careful not to spoil it. She was so absorbed in her exploration that she didn't hear the hoofsteps. When an unfamiliar voice rang out behind her, she jumped in surprise, turning around so that her head was now outside the teepee while the rest of her body was inside.
The first thing she noticed, was that the mare was massive. Brioso was sure that this female was much larger than her own mother, maybe even the mares that she had met before. Blinking, she shifted her attention to Grencia before turning back at the stranger again; could this be the Yei she was looking forward to meeting? Her 'greeting' made the filly confused, however, and she frowned, "A... Present?"

[[Psst - Yei doesn't have wings! *Giggle*]]
"Ah..." Grencia's eyes softened and his lips creased into a smile as the mare interrupted the moment of peace between stallion and foal. Turning his attention back to Brioso, he noted her question and gave a haphazard shrug. To be honest, he'd never quite understood what any of the trinkets in the human's domain were for either! He knew that some of them occasionally contained herbs, but beyond that he knew of no other purpose that they served. He hadn't lived here as long as his mate but he suspected she would be equally oblivious to the objects.
"To be honest I don't know, the answer to that. What he does with them is a secret even to me," he confessed. Tilting his head, he flicked his gaze back towards the mare who was closing the gap between herself and him. She seemed in good spirits and in equally good health. That being said there was no denying that she was a large mare, her height was one of her most notable features and she did tend to tower over most lowland soquili.
"Weeeeeell," she pestered with a bemused smile on her lips, her own body language mimicking his as she tilted her head to the side.
"Rest assured the filly has a family," Grencia replied softly and lifted the flap a little more so that Yei was clear for Brioso to see. "Brioso, might I introduce you to my wife?"

{*cough* Fixed.}
"Ah..." Was her reply to his explanation; Soquilis don't have a need for so many trinkets, so it was quite natural for the stallion not to know. Turning her attention back to the red colored mare, she giggled at her antics before blushing and hanging her head, wondering if it was rude of her. When she heard her name, however, she looked up again, lost for a moment.
"Oh! Um, hel- Hello, Yei," The filly quickly forced out at Grencia's prompt; her voice was shaky, and it was quite obvious she was nervous. Having addressed Grencia with 'mister' for the longest time, she found it rather difficult to address his wife so casually. She paused, blinking at the large mare in front of her before offering a small smile; well, at least she seems friendly enough! Feeling a tad calmer, she continued, "I'm, um... My name is Brioso."

"It's a baaaaaaaby!" Yei squealed as Brioso revealed herself properly. Her eyes lit up in delight and for a short while she merely stared at the foal with a rather ridiculous smile upon her lips. She'd always had a soft spot for children and now that the tiny tot (far smaller than her own children had been) had entered her world. Admittedly she wouldn't be a permanent child in Islagiatt but it gave her yet another excuse to dote on an unsuspecting baby. There was a high chance that her own son would lecture her in fear that she may ruin his student and turn her soft!
"It's lovely to meet you, Brioso," she continnued after a few moments. She lovered her head so that her nose was near level with the filly and waggled her brows. "I hope Grencia was treating you right, he sometimes forgets his manners and gives a poor service," she whispered in a theatrical manner. In response, her mate rolled his eyes as though she didn't deserve a more substantial response - he was obviously used to her behaviour and still adored her. "Ooooh and you'll have to be careful of my son, he's a bit grumpy as well but he's a good instructor!" she cooed reassuringly.
"I think Ambroise might prefer the term 'disciplined' to 'grumpy', sweetheart," Grencia interjected after a brief pause and shook his head. There was a smile on his lips though which only deepened when his mate gave a small snort in retort.
"Disciplined indeed, he has the personality of a plank!" She sighed dramatically and shook her head slowly at the filly, as though Brioso had become her new best friend. "It makes a mother sad, Bri. Very sad..."
"Yei..."
"But I still love him," Yei added defiantly and giggled. "You will too!"

Brioso became as stiff as wood when Yei came right up to her; she would protest about being called a baby, but decided against it - after all, its not like she would be treated like one... Right? Besides, this is Grencia's mate... It wouldn't be good to offend her. Maybe they don't appreciate stubborn fillies who argue, and this is actually a test? Then again, Yei doesn't appear to be acting. Is this really the winged stallion's mate?
"Oh, um, really nice to meet you too," She stumbled over her words, wondering how to reply her questions. Looking shyly at the mare, she shifted her hoofs nervously, "No, um, mist- Um, Grencia had been really nice to me. He took good care of me during the trip here..." At the comparison of her future instructor to a plank though, the filly allowed a soft giggle to escape before blushing, wondering if she was being rude; after all, she would be living on their lands for quite some time.
"Don't... Don't be sad?" Brioso frowned, but blushed when she realized that it was said as more of a joke rather than a real 'I am sad' situation; Looking away, the filly flicked her tail, wondering if it was silly of her to respond that way; she wasn't the greatest at reading situations, especially if she was feeling nervous... And she was nervous. Giving a small smile, she spoke again, "Well, I'm sure that... He's a great instructor..."
