My biggest victory was when Super Smash Brothers: Melee had just been released. I knew barely anything about the game, and when I saw a tournament going on at my local Playdium I just HAD to join in
heart .
Anyways, seemed everyone there knew as little as I did. I aced through the first 5 rounds with Yoshi (Due to my experience with him from SSB) and then came my hardest match in the tournament: In the semi-finals, I faced off against this one guy who used Kirby. God, that was the most stressful fight I've ever been in, my hands were so sweaty! Anyways, by some sheer stroke of luck I managed to beat him, and then I went to the finals and kicked the living crap out of some fool playing as Bowser. When I won...I sorta just sat there in disbelief...but when the attendant handed me my prize (A kick-a** Nintendo hat) I just jumped up and said, "Boo-yah!" Doing the traditional air-punching seen in most animes.
God, those were the days....now everybody whores Marth, Fox, Falco and Shiek, and no one else stands a chance...
gonk Yoshi, I didn't know you were in ND! Anyway, my greatest victory was very similar to yours. It was about a month and a half after SSBM was released, and I had just purchased it. There was a tourney at a local Arcade (They moved a few pinball machines, and made way for a big screen TV), and everyone there had on sweat bands, and they were mostly overweight teens. Everyone had to pick one character and stick with it, so I chose the protagonist from one of my favorite games: Ness. I made it to the finals, beating and humiliating all the people who were older than me. I got my a** handed to me in the finals, where a guy who looked about a year younger than me beat me with Ice Climbers. I congratulated him on his victory, and he received a $50 gift certificate to a local Electronic Boutique. For being the runner-up, I got a nice Nintendo shirt, with the GameCube logo on it! The guy and I are still friends, and we usually play DDR together at the very same arcade!
