I do like it. Its not their best. And, Dream Theater don't have a worst album.
I did like it. 8v as a song, saves the album I guess.

I was more or less about the album.
Not my favorite Dream Theater album (Scenes from a Memory will always have my heart). But this is a good album, I've listened to it many times, at first I was a bit iffy about it, but it grew on me. What I like about this album is (like all of their other albums) it's a reflection of how Dream Theater makes each album its own, without making crap lol. What I mean by this is that they are continueing to make good music, without recycling their old music. It doesn't sound the same, and thats what's great about it to me.
I must say though, I agree with previous post's on this topic which state their unhappiness with a lack of solo's. It kinda saddens me to not hear John and Jordan go at it.....BUT, it's good in a way that there isn't so much soloing. A song doesn't need a huge instrumental breakdown to still be a great song. And to me, many of the songs on this album are great.

I was kinda mutual about it. I did like the actual song "Octavarium" and "I Walk Beside You" but all in all, I didn't like it compared to some of the other albums. It was alright.

I definitely enjoy this album. It's not my favorite, but I don't think it sucks by any stretch of the imagination. It's worst offense is that sometimes DT's influences are a bit too obvious *coughneverenoughmusecough* but the music is still very solid. Sacrificed Sons is quintessential DT through and through. The title track is amazing; it feels like a lost Yes or Genesis epic. I have a feeling that Systematic Chaos is going to blow Octavarium out of the water, though

Octavarium is deffinately one of their top albums, but the songs don't coordinate as well as the other albums. They make better singles, and don't really portrey the prog metal theme, on the exception of Panic Attack and Octavarium.

The album is great, I'd say my least favorite song on there is Panic Attack, it's just a little too repetitive for my taste. The song Octavarium though is nothing short of epic... I love how it just builds and builds!
