It was okay to be afraid. Those words… Something about them held a special power. If it was really so okay…
Then she really wasn’t a failure, was she? She was perfectly normal, when she thought about it from that point of view.
“But…” Her fingers gripped tightly at the cloth of his shirt, “I don’t want to be afraid.”

"Man up!" Izzy said, trying to smile. He didn't want her to be sad. This was all scary, this was all a shock, but she shouldn't be sad or afraid or upset. "You d-don't have t-to be afraid, b-because you're not a-alone."

“Wha--”
No way. He didn’t really, not actually….--
--He did.
She couldn’t help but giggle, her chest raising and falling with each breath. With those two words, all thoughts left her head. It was too funny, being fed the same words that she had given him! This boy was something else, she could tell that much.
“I’m not alone at all.”
It was true-- there were already two loving, kindhearted people by her side, how could she ask for more?

Feeling relieved that he had gotten a laugh out of her, Izzy patted her back. "N-no you're n-not." Thoughts drifted back to his mom, how he had left her alone. Bu he fought those back down and focused on making sure Tepin was really going to be okay. "D-do you want to g-go get ice-c-creme?" He had a few extra dollars from his last couple errands. Pausing, he scrunched his eyebrows. "O-or since you're all g-g-grown up d-do you want c-coffee?" He said, giggling a bit.

“Coffee.” She nodded with a firm and demanding nod, if she was given the choice, it’d most definitely have to be coffee.
The clawing and feeling of glee from the back of her mind made it clear that her god approved. Mixcoatl seemed to have some strange kind of affection for the drink, claiming it made him feel young again. In any case, he demanded she drink it as much as often.
After all, her body was a temple…. To him.
It was only then that she pulled back, giving a telling look to the boy. “You know, you’re not so bad, kiddo.”
Heehee, Kiddo! It was like she was an adult already.

"C-c-coffee it is!" He said, smiling, proud of himself for having cheered her up. Izzy knew of a couple good places that served both coffee and tea. He never liked the bitter taste that much, and preferred the natural feeling of fresh brewed tea. Izzy's wide smile softened and he nodded at her. "I know, m-m-miss... but I'm n-no k-kid! I'm a m-man!" He struck a slightly goofy looking pose, hands on his hips and his chest puffed out.

She laughed even more. He was taking control-- that was a very good sign. Tepin felt more at ease with someone to guide her, even if that someone happened to be ‘years’ younger than she was.
“Yea, I can see that. Hey!” She rushed to him, gripping his shoulders with an almost crazed grin, “You think it’ll happen to you too? It happened to Varu and me!”
If it happened to him… Then they’d be okay again! The balance wouldn’t be so off, and she wouldn’t feel guilty for hanging around him.
With deer-like grace, she skipped out the ally, turning and smiling ever few steps.
Mixcoatl was happy, she was happy-- she had found a friend, and a justification for not fighting in the game.

Laughing a bit he stretched his arms. They felt achey after that. "I think s-so." Totec had said something along the lines of growing, but he wouldn't have thought it could be so... dramatic. But then the name Varu caught his interest again. Who was that? He grew too? Was he another player? Izzy followed her out of the alley, making nods in the directions they should be going, and smiling back at her. In his head he ran through the possibility of who 'Varu' could be... He blinked. Why didn't he just ask? "H-hey Tepin..." He started a little hesitant. "W-who is V-v-v-varu?"

She half led-half followed, turning at his nods yet still keeping in the lead. It was nice, strolling like this without having to worry about whether or not a player showed up.
Because they were not cooperating; neither of them intended to fight.
“Varu is… Uhm..”
She pondered this, her footfalls slowing as a finger was brought to her mouth.
“I don’t know how to explain it. He takes care of me. He’s kinda like a brother, kinda like a dad-- mostly just a friend.”
As if that was suffice to satiate his desires, her pace quickened a bit-- she was anxious for this coffee.
“He was with me the other day when I met you, you know? Kitty eared boy!”

While he waited patiently for the explanation, he was still a bit anxious to know who he was. He felt a bit relieved when she said brother and friend, but when she didn't say anything more he got anxious again. What wasn't she saying? It almost confirmed his thoughts that he was another player. Was she living with him? So she was living with another player? He felt slightly crest-fallen. Does that mean he wouldn't be able to see her accept when they met like this... he'd never get to meet the man she saw as a brother? Izzy noticed a bit late that she had sped up and had to almost jog to keep up. Her short description wasn't much, but he thought back to his scanning of the playground. A brief and blurry picture of someone with black hair- had the spikey hair been ears?- in the sandbox with a small child... He blinked. Small child? "D-d-do you have a sis-sister?" Izzy asked softly, looking up at the signs. "Th-the shop is right a-around th-this next corner..." He added, trying to play down his question.

She turned obediently, hazarding another look back with a cocked brow.
“Nah, I’m an only child.”
Sure, she had Varu and Sydni… But they weren’t really siblings. It was different; while she lived with the family, she wasn’t actually related to them. So what did that make them? Didn’t staying together despite having no relation actually make them more tightly bound than siblings?
“Oh, wait!” She stopped, the idea finally sinking in. “You must have seen Syd, huh? She’s Varu’s sister. The little girl with us the other day?”

Izzy nodded, stopping as well. "I-I sorta remember s-s-someone like that i-in the sandbox..." They had made it to the cafe, and he peeked in. "I-it looks s-sorta empty i-in th-there." He was trying to not let the idea of her knowing another player bother him. He held open the door. "I-I want t-t-to meet them s-sometime!" He said, a smile on his face but feeling a little shaky. Was that a good idea? To meet an older player... His smile felt strained a bit.

Her lips pursed in thought as she tried to remember the entire scenario of the previous week.
“Yea, they were hanging out there building sand blobs.” Blobs. Not buildings. Varu wasn’t very good with sand.
She passed through the door with a smile and a nod of thanks. He really was being the gentleman, wasn’t he? It was kinda cute. Too bad he was so young, or else Tepin might have considered a candidate for a potential boyfriend.
Well… Godlings did grow, right?
“You should!” She nodded enthusiastically, looking around the shop awkwardly, “Because they’re both great people.”
This felt weird-- she felt like everyone in the shop knew she was just a little girl, pretending to be an adult. Somehow, it made her feel quite subconscious. Tepin gripped at her arm uncomfortably, diverting a glance to Izzy for some sort of confirmation that it was ‘okay’ to have come in here.

Izzy let the door closed, and sighed. If Tepin liked them, then they could not be all bad. Turning around he was glad to see that there were only about half a dozen people about, most of them concentrated in the front of the shop. The shop, with shelves full of jars, was bigger than it appeared. As Izzy made his way up to the counter he noticed some of them glancing at Tepin, and his eye brows stitched together. "S-stop st-staring." He muttered under his breath, a twinge of something poisonous in the back of his head. But when he reached the counter a familiar voice distracted him. "'Allo 'allo, sweetie!" He looked up and smiled at the nice woman behind the counter. Her eyes looked up at Tepin and her smile strained a bit. "Yah've brought a fwiend, eh sweetie? Methinks this calls for sumfink special... go on and sit down and ah'll bring yah sumfink, kay?" She went behind the beaded curtain with one last look at Tepin, and Izzy turned to her and smiled. "Wh-where would y-you like t-to sit?"

She stuck to Izzy like glue, her eyes meandering from place to place in order to avoid looking at any one place in particular. Every now and again she caught someone glancing in her direction… But that was normal. She had just entered, right?
Izzy’s words did little to calm her. In fact, it only made the fact that she had been trying so hard to avoid stick out in the open. People really were staring?
A tan hand reached up to her cheek subconsciously-- the mask. Of course. It always seemed to put people off. It was as if Mixcoatl had written “Dangerous” across her face in black ink. Well, actually, he had done precisely that!
Her attention then shifted to the woman, and Tepin smiled weakly. She seemed nice enough, though the girl couldn’t shake the horrible feelings of paranoia that were eating at her. Was she really that strange of a spectacle?
“Anywhere is fine,” She sounded fairly distracted, but not without purpose. Even though she had tried to use what little tact she had, her eyes scanned the room, trying to pinpoint where each and every other customer was sitting in order to angle herself away from their angry stares.
