Sighing, Varro looked out across the water. It was only afternoon, and the sun glinted off of the gentle waves without glare. About an hour ago, a worried woman had come up to him… Noodles have gone missing left and right, all without a trace. Something like this hadn’t happened in quite some time, so he had two emotions running through his veins- relief that he finally had a use once again and regret that other foxes had disappeared.

It seemed like it was forever ago that he had something to actually do. And, being a god, having a purpose always made him feel better. He enjoyed being busy. His amber eyes sparkled softly as he debated how to approach this. He doubted that such a large number decided to just get up and leave… He knew of no bad guardians in the shop and was able to cross off human interference; he hadn’t seen any suspiciously conniving foxes that would try to seriously harm others. Concentrating on his thinking, Varro lifted up slightly off the ground and paced in the air. When he finally thought of something to try, he shouted out happily, forgot he was flying, and fell to the ground. He knew what he had to do. The foxes had gone missing at night, several disappearing each night… so he’d just need to stay up and figure out where they were going!

That night, he sat outside the stand, his eyes blinking closed once in a while as he struggled to stay awake. Just when he was about to give up ((isn’t that always when discoveries are made?)), he saw a strange light illuminating in the darkness. He followed it, warily, wondering what was making the glow. Before he knew it, he was being led through a forest and into a cavern. He stopped at the entrance of the cavern, knowing that this must be where the foxes had gone… there was even another fox following yet another light, coming up behind him. He put his arm out in front of the fox, keeping him from entering the cavern. At his touch, the other noodle snapped out of a daze, not knowing where he was. Varro told him to stay there for a moment before he leaned into the cave, calling softly. “Hello? Anyone in there?” He only heard scuttlings across the cave floor; after a few minutes he stopped trying to listen for a response. He knew he couldn’t do this one alone- he quickly returned back to the shop, the other fox in tow, to tell them what he discovered, entirely disregarding the time. With a few brave volunteers, they’d get the missing noodles back to their guardians… He didn't want anyone, not even himself, heading into the cave alone. And after everything got settled, as he was sure it would be, he would just need to make sure no one followed anymore lights.

((Sorry that was getting long… so I tried to find a way to cut it shorter… which makes it semi-choppy >.< ))

Some foxes - even several God/desses - have gone missing. Their guardians are terrified. You, the White Ribbon God, are charged with finding them and making sure they return safely to their homes, as well as watching over all of the shop patron's to make sure something like this doesn't happen again. What are your feelings, and just how do you go about finding the missing foxes? If they were taken by someone or something, what lengths will you go to to make sure they're returned safely?

-----

When I came into being, the Goddess herself was there. She wrapped my paw in a white ribbon and charged me with a duty to protect those who were born into her image. Growing up with only duty to guide you is a lonely thing indeed. No one wanted to befriend me, for fear of distracting me from my obligation. I met everyone, but no one knew me. I had no one who cared, no reason for being.

I knew nothing but duty.

How I hated my duty, my obligation. It slowly soured me, over unmeasurable time it made me bitter: and while I still met every fox and every guardian that came to me, I stopped trying to connect with them. I, the god of unity and devotion, refused to let them into my heart where I could protect them. Until one fateful night, when I felt this... pull, deep within my being. Through the next few weeks the pull became an ache, then the ache a nagging pain, and the pain a depthless fear.

Of all the chaos I felt within my soul, none of these feelings were my own.

Once I started to investigate why I was being torn apart by despair, I learned that countless noodles had recently gone missing. It was their fear that haunted me; I was feeling the panic of the lost ones resonating through me. It was so overwhelming, so painful; I could not see where they were.

Their fear had roused my own.

Save them, bring them home! I had never known anything but this duty and for the first time I was desperately needed. But I feared I could not save them. I feared I would let those who love them down. I feared to let those missing down.

And I feared I would let myself down the first chance I had to prove myself.

Fear can be a paralyzing inhibitor... but it is also a great motivator. It motivated me to find the strength to save those who were lost. It also taught me what duty truly is.

It is the reason for my existence.

For me, this is now less of a burden and more of a desire to fulfill my obligations. I do not know how I will find those missing. I simply know I will be able to do so. I cannot lay down my life for them; I will not. If I am gone, who will save the lost ones? Protection is no longer just my moral obligation. It is my honor, my respect for all that look to me for that protection.

And I will maintain my honor: I, Jahdiel, swear it.

His paws trod lightly over fallen autumn leaves, each protesting with the slightest crunch under his weight. He was a finder of things, of other Noodles to be specific, and he tended to linger on the verge of lost and found himself.

He knew where they drifted when they wandered too far from their owners, for he had been there many times himself. He could trace their meandering steps with steps that meandered just as much, had visited all the in-between places, and he understood their need to be somewhere different. He had been lost many times before, and knew where to go to get there.

His eyes always seemed to be staring off toward some faraway place, as though secretly watching the hidden workings of a distant world. And, though he preferred to perch himself in the shop's rafters most of the time, some patrons, on finding their Noodles missing, could swear that they'd had seen him hop lightly down and calmly walk out the door, as though on a mission.

It was as though he had been to every dark or hopeless place, and, having learnt the way back on his own, made himself a guide to lead other lost Noodles back. He had experienced their dejection, their fear, had conquered it in himself in order to help them overcome it. He walked slow, checking occasionally over his shoulder to be sure that whomever he had found was keeping up, pausing as needed, waiting if they were tired.

To all, he was impossible to read: a strange smile often played across his face, though no one knew what caused it. He had been to so many places, seen so many things, that, while he might have been world-weary, he had fashioned himself into a traveler with a love of seeing the world instead. He liked revisiting old places, finding new ones, and both his whimsical nature and his sense of duty to the lost lent itself to this admirably.

A red-and-orange colored leaf swept across his path. He looked up. A lone Noodle was huddled by an unfamiliar river, wondering how it had gotten so lost. He made his way over, met its eyes, and nodded gently. The Noodle's eyes widened and its ears picked up, hardly believing who stood before it.

He was a keeper of places, lost and found, an explorer of worlds, but he always made sure he knew the way home.

The god set by his window looking down on the earth. His whole body ache. He open his mouth and the sweetest sound came out. A voice of someone or thing that care's for everything. "How could someone or something do this to my poor friends. Why. How." his voice trail off into a cry.

His look down again crying. His face wet he look and pray to the goddess for guidance. He knew what he had to do and nothing or no one was going to stop him.

Crying and aching he open his window where he could fly out of it. He open this wings and step onto the banister of the window and flap his wings, flying down to earth.

He touch the cool earth and wept. This was tearing him apart. He could now feel the pain of the guardians of the foxes that where taken away. It kill him inside. He took another step and could feel another guardian pain and die inside.

He knew this would kill him but, he wouldn't let death stand in his way. He would give his body, mind, and soul to this until this cruel person or thing was stop. He would forever walk searching and finding foxes to give back to there guardian. Never to loose a beat. He would not eat, drink, or sleep until the thing was stop. He walk along the cold dark earth, knowing that this was his fate, the fate of the White Ribbon God.....
