Sighing, Varro looked out across the water. It was only afternoon, and the sun glinted off of the gentle waves without glare. About an hour ago, a worried woman had come up to him… Noodles have gone missing left and right, all without a trace. Something like this hadn’t happened in quite some time, so he had two emotions running through his veins- relief that he finally had a use once again and regret that other foxes had disappeared.
It seemed like it was forever ago that he had something to actually do. And, being a god, having a purpose always made him feel better. He enjoyed being busy. His amber eyes sparkled softly as he debated how to approach this. He doubted that such a large number decided to just get up and leave… He knew of no bad guardians in the shop and was able to cross off human interference; he hadn’t seen any suspiciously conniving foxes that would try to seriously harm others. Concentrating on his thinking, Varro lifted up slightly off the ground and paced in the air. When he finally thought of something to try, he shouted out happily, forgot he was flying, and fell to the ground. He knew what he had to do. The foxes had gone missing at night, several disappearing each night… so he’d just need to stay up and figure out where they were going!
…
That night, he sat outside the stand, his eyes blinking closed once in a while as he struggled to stay awake. Just when he was about to give up ((isn’t that always when discoveries are made?)), he saw a strange light illuminating in the darkness. He followed it, warily, wondering what was making the glow. Before he knew it, he was being led through a forest and into a cavern. He stopped at the entrance of the cavern, knowing that this must be where the foxes had gone… there was even another fox following yet another light, coming up behind him. He put his arm out in front of the fox, keeping him from entering the cavern. At his touch, the other noodle snapped out of a daze, not knowing where he was. Varro told him to stay there for a moment before he leaned into the cave, calling softly. “Hello? Anyone in there?” He only heard scuttlings across the cave floor; after a few minutes he stopped trying to listen for a response. He knew he couldn’t do this one alone- he quickly returned back to the shop, the other fox in tow, to tell them what he discovered, entirely disregarding the time. With a few brave volunteers, they’d get the missing noodles back to their guardians… He didn't want anyone, not even himself, heading into the cave alone. And after everything got settled, as he was sure it would be, he would just need to make sure no one followed anymore lights.
((Sorry that was getting long… so I tried to find a way to cut it shorter… which makes it semi-choppy >.< ))
