"Yeah. My brother put a bunch of wards on the new place. Should be safe for now," she admitted, forcing herself to ease her arms downwards so that she could sink her hands into her pockets, shoulders rolling back as some of the tension eased. "I appreciate the help. Couldn't think of anyone else who'd listen, and with all that's been going on, it's... well. I'm grateful is all, I guess. I'm getting tired of being scared all the time."

"Hey. What are ex-cops for?" He smiled gently, humor lacing back into his tone for just a moment. "I'm serious about this though, door's open if you need it. I don't want to hear everything's alright right 'cuz you didn't want to bother me. Something happens, you come straight to me, or." He paused to consider that. "Straight to Andy and have him call me, alright? I'll get this checked out best I can to start with. That's Robin, right? The big blondie kid?"

"Didn't think you'd remember, it's been so long. Yeah, that's the one. Doesn't look any different, if you happen to catch a glimpse of him. Just. You know." She paused. "More violent. But I promise. I'll come to you if anything comes up, or get to Andy's place."

She pushed herself away from the counter and began to drift towards one of the nudibranch tanks, glancing down at its residents before letting her gaze roam over the shelves that lined the walls. "There has been other stuff. You've been gone awhile now, missed most of it. Some of it started before you left but I thought it would pass. I had a pretty good memory last time you saw me, right?"

"Well you never wrote down my order." he said, leaning down on the suddenly freed counter. He watched the girl with a minute frown, meandering among his creations and his babies. Whatever she was about to say next was probably not going to a hyper-happyplace.

"I don't anymore. I mean, I do, about the things I'm present for, I can still remember orders, and homework, and notes, and song lyrics, all the normal things. But there are holes." She slowed to a halt beside a second tank, turning to face Alice though they were across the store from each other now. The frown she had worn before was gone, but she looked nothing short of distressed, forehead creased as her dark eyebrows knit themselves together.

"Big ones. Sometimes hours. It used to be just hours. Now it's a day sometimes, or two. Just whole blocks of time that I can't even remember. I don't know where I've been or what I've done. It's like the time is just lost. It started getting worse right before Robin got weird. I'm not saying I think it's connected, there's nothing that implies that, just, it's a lot all at once, you know?"

"Yeah. I know." He sighed, straightening up. "Well, I mean. I don't know. But you and Andy..." Alice shook his head, making his way awkwardly around the register. "You live in a different world than I did. Or used to. I get it. Never asked more questions than I needed. Sometimes, wish I had."

The blond shrugged, crossing the store with only the faintest traces of difficulty. A vague favoring of one leg like a man with a cramp. "Anyway. This time gap thing, it's, what? Couple years old now?"

"Honestly? I always felt like I was stuck somewhere in between the two. Worlds, that is. Andy and Jake were on one side, you were on the other, and I sort of straddled the line. I was with them all the time but they never really told me more than I needed to know. I wish I had asked more questions, too," she admitted, taking a step towards him as though it would save him having to put too much stress on his injured leg. "Maybe I'd be better prepared then. ... it's been a couple of years now, yeah. Getting worse all the time."

There were other details she had yet to share. Saying them aloud, however, made them real. It would suck if they were real.

He offered her a distracted smile, reaching the door and turning its sign. "Sometime you can't prepare for epic world ********, Princess. Just gotta roll with the punches, y'know?" He snorted softly. "Guess we both coulda been more inquisitive. Myself, I sorta hated the idea of ... well, the untouchable, right? The unknowable, I guess. Big ol'PtB."

The blond leaned on the ornate wooden frame, inclining his head somewhere behind himself. "C'mon, Yertle. I want a coffee. Let's get you some icecream or something."

She nodded slowly, taking a few steps towards him before blinking, his comment taking a moment to sink in. "Yertle?" she asked, puzzled.

In response Alice only shrunk down into himself, neck all but disappearing as he scrunched.

She raised a brow, snorting derisively as she made her way towards the door. "I do not look like that, Alison," she grumbled.

"Well not when you're all pissed off, no, Bradley." he agreed with a chuckle, following behind her.

She couldn't help smirking as she watched him over her shoulder, scooting out to the sidewalk so he could lock up behind them. "That one doesn't even start with an A, Angela," she pointed out.

"Oh." He frowned minutely, listening for the click as the key turned. "I didn't realize there were rules for the make-up-names-for-each-other game. Hm." Shoving the keys back into his pocket with a distinct jangle he turned to smile at his companion. "How about that coffee, then, Albert?" And then, after a pause. "We're gonna run out of A names like, wicked fast."

"It at least has to be kind of close to the actual name or it's not funny," she told him with an absolutely straight face, "And I could do this all day. Lead on, Abigail. Don't know the area yet."
