Ellandra couldn't help it when the little Essentic started explaining its purpose - she laughed. "D-don't worry, s-sir - there are - l-lots of p-people out there who - who y-you're m-more than - than w-welcome to take "lots and lots of money" f-from." Clearly this man wasn't quite as terrifying as he'd seemed, if he was being so good to his little partner. She offered a fair amount of money to the horned man, but shook her head and refused further fortune-telling.
"N-no thank you, sir - b-but I a-appreciate the - the o-offer," she said, biting her lip a little and looking down at her hat, which Ziazan was still sitting in.

Foalan picked up the proto, cradling it to his chest again, and handed the young lady back her hat. Then handed her a crystal on a chain. "Here, take this for your trouble. It always brought me luck. You'll be welcome to come visit us any time."

Ellandra blushed, but gladly took her hat back - and took the necklace as well, hanging it around her neck. "I - I. . . . thank - thank you," she stammered out weakly. "Th-thank you b-both." She smiled softly, bright grey eyes filled with delight rather than fear.
"I think - I think I sh-shall c-come back," she said, her eyes landing on the little proto. "W-when I do, w-would it be a-all right for - for me t-to. . .. " She trailed off hesitantly. How could she ask this? What should she do?

"To what?" Faolan asked, leaning back against his chair in an easy sprawl, giving one of his most charming grins.

"To - to bring Z-Ziazan a scarf of its - its own . . . and. . . p-perhaps n-next time. . ." She trailed off again, not looking directly at the man, but then managed to continue. "P-perhaps n-n-next t-time. . . I - I w-will have my. . . my f-fortune t-t-told." There, she'd managed to ask what she'd wanted to ask.

"Scarf!" Ziazan chirped. Faolan ruffled the feathers on its bejeweled head.
"You're welcome to bring any gifts you'd like," the young man said, tilting his head a bit, the light making his eyes glow slightly. "I'd love to read your fortune for you, too. Here, I'll do a quick read." He took up the tarot cards and shuffled them into a deck before setting them in front of the girl. "Cut the deck any way you wish and pick one card. I'll give you a reading off of it."

Ellandra laughed again. "Y-yes, little one, a scarf for you." She finally looked at its owner again, her gray eyes sparkling with laughter this time, instead of fear. "Ziazan . . . r-really loves scarves, d-doesn't it?" Obligingly, she did as the fortune-teller asked. She didn't believe in the futures these cards foretold, but she wasn't going to refuse a polite request, especially when it wasn't anything harmful.
Besides, he was going to let her give his Essentic the little gift she wanted to give, and far be it from her to refuse him after he'd allowed that!

Faolan took the card the girl had picked and held it up for her to see. "The Sun. It stands for satisfaction, accomplishment, love, success, and joy. A lot of times it can signify an engagement or marriage. Since you don't seem married or engaged, I'll just go with the rest of the card's meanings. I can tell that you have been met with much success and accomplishment in your young life. You're creative and you take a lot of joy and satisfaction from that. All that's left is love."
He looked down at the deck, putting the two halves together again with the Sun card, reshuffled them, then cut and drew a card, holding it up for her to see. The Lovers. The young man gave a sort of lazy, almost shy smile. "The cards rarely lie, though this doesn't always mean what people see it as. There's much optimism, trust, and honor in this card. You can trust me, dear Ellandra. I know I'm a rouge, but I do have some honor." He laid the card down before her, standing up and heading to the door. Opening the door, he looked back at her. "It also means the beginnings of romance."

Ellandra listened patiently as he spoke, her face flaring up brighter and brighter as he continued - and upon his final words, only one sound escaped from her. She squeaked - and fell over backwards, not really fainting but most definitely not all-there at the moment.

"Ellandra!" Faolan rushed to the girl's side, helping her up to sitting and letting her rest against his semi-bare chest. "Oi, lass, I didn't mean to have you passing out on me. Are you alright?"
Ziazan fluttered down and waved its tiny wings to give the girl some air. "You laid it on too thick. You'll never win a girl over being so brash."
"Zia, please," Faolan said, flushing a bit and giving the proto a "shut the hell up" look, then returned his attention to Ellandra, still blushing. "Ignore Zia. The Essentics tend to make stuff up sometimes when they think they're helping."

"I -I - I oh- ohhhh," Ellandra stammered incoherently, her blush increasing to near epic proportions as she fought to keep a hold on consciousness. This only grew more difficult when she regained her senses enough to notice the position she was in. Her eyes visibly rolled up into her head for a moment and she swallowed, barely avoiding a dead faint.
After several minutes, she managed to regain a little hold on herself, although she was visibly shaking and rather unsteady-looking. "I - I ummm - ummm...." Her control didn't extend to speaking, it seemed.

"You're sure you like this female? She doesn't seem bright," the Essentic commented, still fanning away.
Fao glared at the creature. "Stay silent, Zia." He looked down at the girl, moving a bit to sit down on the ground, arranging Ellandra so that she was seated between his legs, her back resting against his chest, then rested his hands on the floor, showing that he had no ill intentions. When he spoke, he kept his voice low. "I didn't mean to startle you like that. Sit still till you regain your senses. I won't hurt you."
"Hey, Faolan, are you adding whoring in on your list of skills? I didn't know you could tell a person's future that way," called a woman, peeking into the small building. Faolan threw the first object handy at her, nearly hitting her with the small crystal. The woman left, laughing, and Faolan looked up at Zia.
"Close the door," he told the proto. "And no witty comments."

Ellandra took a moment to regather herself, trying her hardest to reconcile herself with the fact that she was sitting in this man's lap - a position she had never been in, before, and having difficulty, what with the comments being tossed about. Finally, at long last, she managed to pull herself to gether and slid away from the fortune-teller - though not quite able to regain her feet just yet.
"I'm - I'm so sorry," she stammered weakly, tugging her hat down over her eyes, and shooting a glance at the Proto. "If I'm - not b-bright, little Ziazan, th-then perhaps I sh-shouldn't buy you a scarf, hmm?"
Oh yes, she was pulling her scattered wits back together rather nicely.

"Feeling better now?" Fao asked, moving to help her up. He smiled at her softly, still blushing a little. "Please don't hold Zia's wit against it. The little Essentic spends too much time around my impulsive nature."

Ellandra nodded a little. Truthfully, she was feeling better - although her blush was still to the extreme limits of blood flow. She smiled a bit, looking up at the little proto - really, how had it wound up so very tiny? "I'm - I'm d-d-doing m-much b-better, thank you . . ." she said, trailing off at the last. "And I - I won't, d-don't worry. . . but it w-would be good to - to get Ziazan to - to learn a - a l-little less im-impulsiveness. . . f-for its o-own sake." Impulsiveness could get the tiny Essentic in more trouble than it was capable of getting out of, unfortunately.
