"Glad you like them," Ally said to the captain, elated that he still enjoyed her baked goods. A soft smile tugged at the corners of her mouth, a sign that she felt slightly more relaxed...and even a little amused at the sight before her. She inwardly cringed, praying John wouldn't choke...

Her calloused fingers gripped one of the moist squares as she picked it off the pile. "W-would you like one, Chris?" she offered.

"Try... a brownie?" Chris paused. Brownies and wine... usually didn't go together. "Well..." He thought about it for a moment. "I don't see why not."

He set his glass down on the nearby table and extracted a brownie from the plate. Considering the rate John was hording them, it was a testament to Chris's nimble fingers he was able to get one at all. After a moment of hesitation, he brought the dessert to his lips and took a bite.

"Hmmmm...."User Image

John's eyes widened, but it wasn't out of elation from Ally's brownies.

That chunk of bliss known as three of Ally's brownies had gotten stuck in his throat.

Looking around for something, anything he could use to wash down the solidified bliss. He found the glass containing Chris' wine and flew to it. In one gulp, he downed the beverage, breathing heavily from his scrap with death.

"Phew... That was close..."

Ally merely slid her glasses up the bridge of her nose, shaking her head. "P-perhaps I should limit John to one at a time," she spoke to herself, really. Her shoulders hunched forward a bit, and her feet shifted inward slightly--pigeon-toed, some would call her stance. Unfortunately, her nerves got the best of her once again. "Do you...l-like them?" she asked her vice captain counterpart, her voice hushed and a little on the squeaky end of the spectrum.

"Ack!" Chris yelped, crumbs flying from his mouth. "What the hell, John?!" He deftly swiped the delicate glass from his captain's hand. "We don't DO that! For starters, that's MY glass, and secondly, that's good wine, not tapwater! Drink it with a little class, man!" He huffed and tersely set the empty glass down over at the counter. It was a sad sight, that empty glass...

It didn't take him long to get back to the subject at hand, though. "Ah, the brownies..." Chris paused. "Well... I lost some of my taste for human cuisine a while back, you see?" He gave a small nod. "Even before then, I was not necessarily a man with much of a 'sweet tooth'. However, having said that... your brownies were quite delicious." He gave a reserved - but sincere - smile.User Image

"S-sorry..."

One of John's hands gripped his hair; the other was wrapped around his stomach. He really wished Chris had given him prior warning. Suddenly, he did not feel so good. Groaning quietly, he made for the couch and collapsed on it, groaning softly.

"Don't feel good..." he muttered, his eyes shut from the light, which suddenly seemed way too bright for him.

"Oh, gods...u-um, pardon me!" Ally excused herself hastily. Plate of brownies tucked close to her stomach, she broke into a run for the kitchen, one of three places in the fort she spent her time.

"Cloth...cloth...ah!" the raven-haired girl muttered to herself upon locating what she sought. Dropping the plate of brownies on one of her many clean countertops, she fished a soft cloth from the cupboard and wet it with cool water from the tap. On her way out, she picked up a bottle of her own concoction.

Ally breathlessly shoved open the door to the lounge, tripping over her own feet in the process of heading to John's side. "H-here," she said low and labored, placing the wet washcloth on her captain's forehead.

Chris facepalmed again. You think he'd be used to stuff like this by now...

"See, this is what I was trying to say..." He pointed to the wine bottle and the glasses over by the countertop. "Gotta respect the liquor. Drink responsibly and appreciatively." However, even Chris was able to recognize that this after-the-fact lecture wasn't going to help anyone. "Ah... never mind for now. Let's see what we can do for you here..." Sighing, he lifted one of his hands, and the air around him started to glow in a rhythmic pattern...

"Diagnose!"

A circle of energy emitted from one of Chris's rings, granting healing life to all those nearby. Chris had used this ring technique so often that it was practically second-nature to him. "This isn't going to cure you by any means," he explained to John, "but at least it will take the edge off of the pain."User Image

John only groaned in response, but he smiled inwardly. They had different ways of showing it, but his two vice-captains were both very concerned about his well-being. Softly, he closed his eyes, deciding that sleeping off his condition may be the best idea...

Ally flashed a caring smile, running her fingers gently through John's ever-messy locks. "Don't be so reckless next time...," she muttered, and with a twist of her body, she rose from the floor. "Chris...I'll l-leave John in your more-than-capable h-hands...I've...got to make sure all the b-beds are dressed and such..." A delicate shade of pink tinted her cheeks as she headed for the door. She still had many chores to complete around the fort...

"Alright, alright..." Chris had collected himself and was calmer now. "...We won't keep you. Go on ahead." Of course, Ally was halfway out the door by the time he had replied, her face tinted a slight pinkish color....

He paused a moment, looking down at John, slumped on the floor, losing consciousness. What the hell, Chris thought to himself. Beaten by a bottle of wine, captain? Wouldn't want to be in your shoes tomorrow morning...

Shaking his head, Chris bent down and picked up his superior. "Come on, you..." He said, his voice straining as he dragged John up onto the couch. "You may be the boss, but if you think I'm gonna drag you all the way to your room on the top floor, you better think again... you get to crash here for the time being."

He looked at John one more time. Were any of them really sure of what they were getting themselves into? Was there any hope of success? It was too early for Chris to call it at this point. He'd just have to hope for the best. One thing was for certain: this was the start of an adventure.

Chris spared a moment to put away the wine and the glasses, and then he locked everything up. After shutting off the lights, Chris closed the door behind him and headed out, on to his next objective...User Image
