Merci`
Dio sat and watched his chosen Guardian pace up and down the upstairs hallway. He had no idea what was going on but late last night this little thing bleeped, and she hadn't held still since. He was floating in the doorway to her bedroom, out of her way. 'Why did you shine the faucet in the bathroom, and why are you walking back and forth like that?' Dio's voice was quiet as he addressed Merci, he didn't want to startle her to much.

The woman stopped in her tracks and muttered "Oh hells." Under her breath. How was she going to explain Dio to Cinder? She brushed her hands over her cotton white tank top and fussed with her black leather skirt she almost always wore. "I polished the faucet because I don't want Cinder to think I've let the place go. I mean I know she knows I'm a bit of a slob but when she gets here she is going to probably want a real bath, and I want it to be shiny." Even to her it sounded lame, but it was pretty much the truth. "And I'm walking so I don't fidget. Now please be nice to Cinder. She means an awful lot to me and I don't want you to do the sorts of things to her you do to Vance and Seraph."

Dio waved his unsleeved arm, 'I'll be good, will you tell me about her now?' But before he could get any sort of answer the sound of an engine seemed to get louder and then stop. In a flurry of red hair his guardian bolted down the stairs to get the door.

Cinderfae
Cinder brought the warhammer down without bothering to use the various landing checklists required by the Empire believed to heighten flying safety. Then again the Empire and the war, Cinder helped fight against them was very far away. It might have been safer but the pilot was in a hurry so a bit of Draconian doctrine was being pushed aside. "Mycroft how do we look for actual touchdown?"

The disembodied rather refined british voice of her AI came over the speakers, "The patch of land near the residence is suitable and landing will not destory anything substantial." Even as Mycroft's words came to her Cinder could tell he was making the nessecary calculations for landing. The neural jack in the back of her neck allowed her greater access to the workings of her ship to a point she could almost feel it.

"Alright settle us down, I'm ready to go see by girl."

The landing ended with a rather uneventful bump as the ship settled into place. Cinder stood and threw the braid she kept her long red hair in over her shoulder. Throwing her jacket over her shoulders she headed out of the pit of the plane. Her grey blue eyes concentrated on the exit out of the ship she made her way almost hurriedly toward it...though she forced herself to make it a hurried walk instead of a jog.

Near the door that would lead to the ramp off the ship someone was already waiting for Cinder. Standing at around four feet tall was a creature that looked distinctively feline; fur the color of ginger covered the creature. Although catlike the creature stood on it's hind legs looking much like a human would and four arms in addition to it's legs came out of it's torso. Cinder grinned and looked to the feline creature, "ready Peeps? I have a feeling your going to want off the ship."

With a soft sound that did strangely sound like a noise a chick would make Peeps answered, "I am ready to meet your heart mate."

Chuckling Cinder palmed the door that would open to the ramp, "I have lots to talk to her about...I bet she will like you though."

Cinder walks down the ramp of the ship a small device on her hip blinking slightly showing Mycroft's interest in the area and the ginger colored creature moving behind her. Cinder grinned when she saw the red hair and Merci's ears in the distance starting out to a run to sweep the other woman up in her arms.

((Referance pictures for Peeps. -1--2-))

Merci`
Merci shoved through the door and covered her eyes to shield herself from the slight breeze that the ship brought with it. Her fox-like ears flattening down against her head to protect them from the last sounds of the Warhammer settling into place. "She's back!" She squealed as she took off at a run toward the hulking mass of metal. It was hard not to see Cinder against it, red hair and pale skin. Merci threw herself at the other woman with a gleeful little shriek "Your back! I am so glad your back! I missed you so much!" She buried her face against the taller woman and heaved in a breath, getting the smell of her again.

Dio peeked out the door and flinched back, the sun was still fairly strong in the sky and it made him extremely uncomfortable. For a few moments his curiosity warred with his self preservation, and curiosity won. He zipped through the wall and grabbed one of the throws from over the back of the couch to use as a makeshift cloak. He wanted to see damnit!

With it securely over his head and body he floated back through the door and made his way over to the shadows cast by the Warhammer. Merci seemed to be very attached to this other woman he had never seen before, and feelings of jealousy started bubbling up inside of him. Who was this?! He looked like a moving shadow from under the blanket, his dark coloring lending to that conclusion. The only flash of color was his wildly colored hair and the flash of metal from the tail that peeked out of the bottom of his camouflage.

Cinderfae
Cinder chuckled and swung the smaller woman up in her arms giving her a rather good snuggling all things considered. She grinned hugging Merci close a moment. A part of her relaxed as she did, a small part of her that she normally wouldn't even allow to exist had been worried; worried that Merci would have moved on. That she would have an entirely different life and there wouldn't be room for an old space pirate in it. "I missed you so much," Cinder took a moment to look Merci over and murmered into her foxy ears as she did, "your still as lovely as I remember."

As the two women took a moment for various snuggling and greetings Peeps wandered down the ramp of the ship, canting his little head to the side curiously looking the area over. He was certain that the two were engauging in some mating ritual even if it didn't make overly much sense to him. After all it was unlikely they could actually mate, the Priman's thoughts were cut short as his keen eyes caught sight of what appeared to be a floating blanket with a shadow under it. Inching forward suspiciously the Priman used a bit of grass as cover his eyes somewhat wide as he watched. Sniffing the air he tried to catch scent of the shadow creature, the Priman narrowed his eyes the creature didn't smell persay a bit musty but it seemed more like old energy.

Peeps crouched down, his front set of arms kneading the ground in a rather catlike manner as one would do before getting ready to pounce, his legs curling under getting ready for a jump and his tail flickering in the air. Amber eyes focused on the moving blanket he coiled his muscles.

Cinder pulled back in time to see Peeps ready to jump, a look of confusion on her face. "That's Peeps, I'm not sure what he is doing..." Cinder hadn't caught sight of Dio and his blanket shelter as of yet.

Merci`
Merci beamed up at Cinder and snuggled back, it was so nice to have her back. There was a feeling of being safe, of belonging that seemed to grip her when she was near her love. The fact she was safe and relatively in one piece was a bonus. Cinder, much like her friend Zero, had mechanical parts. She would have to poke and prod later to find out if there were any more of them then there were before.

Dio totally didn't notice Peeps, he was actually considering gluing Cinder's braid to her forehead. Merci had asked him not to do anything prankish, but she hadn't said anything about being downright mean. Maybe if he tried hard enough he could make her mad and make her go before she disrupted his little world.

Merci's eyes followed Cinder's as she mentioned Peeps, and she saw one of the oddest things she'd ever seen. She didn't notice Dio right away either because honestly she had never seen a six limbed monkey thing before and it was curious. "What is a Peeps?" She asked in a whisper, "Is that it's name or what it is?"

Cinderfae
Cinder chuckled at the question and grinned slightly, leaning slightly she kissed Merci's forehead. Not bothering to whisper she spoke to Merci in a normal tone of voice. "Peeps is what I'm calling him, he's a Priman. Bit genatically enhanced one actually. Only called himself a string of numbers before I called him Peeps." Cinder loosened her arm slightly watching the Priman for a moment.

Peeps continued to focus on it's prey - or rather the blanket with the shadowy thing under it. His ears twitched slightly as if picking up the sound but his eyes settled on the brief motions under the blanket. Tail twitching too he was getting ready to pounce.

Cinder's gazed settled on Peeps a moment and she frowned slightly, "Peeps, what are you doing?"

Being directly spoken to did catch the Priman's attention long enough for him to speak though he didn't take his eyes off Dio, "Cinder, the shadows are watching..." only after Dio's comment did Cinder's eyes finally go to the blanket. Tilting her head slightly she murmered to Merci. "I'm not sure what that is...but does it belong to you? Because I think Peeps is going to jump on it in a moment."

Merci`
Merci looked up and finally let go of Cinder, "Dio, you shouldn't be out here in the light like this. Go back inside we'll be in. Get Maili to have Seraph start cooking." She sounded a bit perturbed and glanced back over to Cinder, "Yeah thats another thing we're going to have to talk about. Thats my Black Star Diopside, or Dio for short. It's kind of a long story."

Dio stiffened at the long version of his name and unhappiness rolled off him in waves. Hearing what they were saying the blanket moved back away from Peeps. 'I am not a thing you need to talk about! Merci's mine and you can't have her. I won't share her, I won't!' He didn't run away, or hide, but he pushed the hood of his makeshift cover back to display his brightly colored, sparkling hair. It fell over his face hiding one of his two eyes. Over his visible eye a vertical star was easily seen on his skin. His burgundy eye was burning with a bit of possessive anger. At the hollow of his throat what looked like a black stone with a star, much like the one over his eye, on it was embedded in his form.

Merci shook her head, "Dio it isn't like that. I won't be leaving you, Cinder will live with us like Maili. You liked it when Maili came to stay, you'll like this too. I promise."

He didn't seem to be listening.

Cinderfae
Cinder looked over at the blanket and tilted her head, smiling faintly when she saw a shadowy face peeking out. Murmering to Merci` to keep it from travelling to Dio to far, "interesting things I can handle. Seen a great deal of it...peppy one too it seems." Her voice if anything sounded amused. Cinder turned to look at Dio, more curious then anything but before she had time to speak to him Peeps moved forward quickly.

Bounding over the plants he was using as cover the Priman pounced over the ground rather quickly. His amber colored eyes wide as he regarded Dio closely, they flickered over the more colorful bits of his hair and even the shiney bit of metal on his tail. Reaches out with his first set of paws Peeps attempted to run a soft pawed hand over Dio's face.

Cinder blinked slightly seeing Peeps dash over to Dio, "Peeps! Don't scare him!" She hadn't even had a chance to speak to the shadow creature and already it looked like he might get scared off...or molested. He seemed important to Merci` and her tone sounded very much like a mother's when speaking to him which was more then enough to make Cinder give a damn. Cinder glanced to Merci waiting for her cue on what to do next, as when it came to Dio she really had no idea what to expect.

Merci`
Dio turned his face down to look at the odd creature that was touching his face. After cyborgs, demons, and medusa, Dio was not shaken by a cat monkey thing. He hovered back an inch or so, before he darted out of the blanket, disappearing into Merci's shadow.

The kitsune just smiled a little bit and glanced up at Cinder. "I went to a jewelry store awhile back now. Just to see what they had, and I think I walked into an argument. It seemed like an argument anyway, but it's kinda beside the point. Inside there was this.. golden beautiful creature. She came over to me and dropped something in my pocket. Later I found out it was a ring, and in that ring was a piece of Black Star Diopside."

Merci pulled on Cinders arm and started heading back for the house, leaving the blanket were it was on the ground. There didn't seem to be a stir from her shadow, it looked totally normal. "That stone, I was told later by the people that owned the jewelry shop, had a soul inside. This partiuclar soul was very weak, and would die if I didn't keep it close to me. They told me that he would share my energy, and he would slowly recover. So Dio, thats his nickname, has been with me ever since. I think because of his precarious situation he is a little more possessive. So you'll have to put up with him, he's a terrible prankster.

She walked back into the house, and still, her shadow remained silent and still. As if the little creature had never really been there in the first place.

Cinderfae
Peeps stood in place a moment his little ears drooped looking to the spot that Dio had just been in and he let out a small whine. Cinder sighed and rolled her eyes. "Go make sure Saki is fed, we don't need him sneaking off the ship and eating small animals in the area...or their owners." Cinder shooed the Priman slightly, Peeps for his part seemed to have completely forgotten the recent incident and dashed back toward the ship at full tilt. Cinder grinned and glanced to Merci, "I got new security for the ship, you might find her interesting."

Cinder wrapped an arm around Merci as she started to guide her toward the house. Nodding a bit listening, her eyes flickering toward the shadow that Dio disappeared into. So another soul bound to her Merci, for some this might create a bit of jealousy but watching Dio's reaction and the way he treated Merci made such things disappear before they even appeared. It was clear the bonding was more of a parent and child then anything else. Smiling a little Cinder leaned over and give Merci's fox ear a little n**, she was just happy to be back though at some point she was going to have to tell Merci what news she had; it could wait for now she decided.

"Well if the pranking gets too bad I'll set Peeps on him, I think he'll give him a run for his money."
Cinder glanced up at the house it was much as how she remembered it. It sounded like the place was getting pretty full, she'd have to see if the guesthouse was livable so they would have enough room. The Warhammer was off less then a mile from the house but a choice bit of theft on her way home landed her some pretty impressive cloaking technology that should keep it out of the eyes of the locals. "I'm just glad to be back, perhaps if he thinks he can handle it I'll talk a bit with your little shadow later." Cinder grinned glancing to Merci's shadow as she spoke a glint of mischief in her eye.

Merci`
Merci fell into step easily with Cinder as the two headed toward the house. It was good to have her home. There were times when Merci had dispaired of ever seeing her lifepartner again. She remembered the conversation she'd had with Zero, and telling her that she had given up on being part of a relationship. Truth was that it hurt sometimes, being left behind. However Merci knew that what Cinder did, she did for good reasons.

Anyway Seraph would never do well on the Warhammer, and the kitsune certainly couldn't leave him alone down here with Vance. There wouldn't be a house to return to if the decadent medusa had their way.

Merci flicked her ear at the love bite and gave the taller woman a brash grin. "You better take a bath. I shined the faucets and everything for you." She added the last a little sheepishly as he let go of Cinder and darted forward a couple steps to open the door to the smell of wood polish and lemons.

The inside of the house practically sparkled and Seraph was waiting by the bottom of the stairs. His hands were parked carefully in the opposite sleeves of his white jacket. "Greetings and welcome home Cinderfae. I hope your trip was nice." The words were warm but the tone was utterly neutral. Seraph just did not have the ability to affect emotion in his voice.

As soon as Merci crossed the threshold into the house, Dio peeled away from her. He seemed to materilize out of the very ground itself, and he passed through the walls in his hurry to disappear.

Seraph remained stoic but voiced the obvious, "He seems displeased with the change."

Merci shot Seraph a nasty look, "We're going to have to get the guest house aired and cleaned out. Cinder brought home some company that will likely drive Vance through the roof. We'll talk about who lives where over dinner alright?"

Seraph inclined his head and slithered back into the kitchen from wence he came.

Cinderfae
Mumbling slightly at the ear n**, Cinder patted the Kitsune's bottom as she rushed off ahead. "Seems you went to an awful lot of trouble, you'll of course have to test the bath with me. Just to make sure it's up to standards," grinning faintly she watches Merci a moment before taking a look over the house. It looked nice, probably nicer then Cinder would have ever bothered to make it. Her eyes flickered to the Medusa taking a moment to study the creature before offering a slight nod at it's welcome, "thanks for the welcome," she offered a smile as well. The Medusa's were strange but with her travels she wasn't overly surprised by it's appearance, after flying out in the stars as long as she had things ceased to be surprising.

Cinder's gaze flickered toward the wall where Dio disappeared to, and then back toward Meric and Seraph catching the comment and Merci's gaze. She wasn't familiar with the type of creature Dio was but he was bonded with Merci. Which meant he was important to the Kitsune and thus important to her as well; she'd have to see what could be done with settling the grounds later on.

The pilot winced inwardly hearing Merci's comment about the guest house. She feared her partner wouldn't be prepared for one of the guests that hadn't arrived yet.

Come on girl, no slouching away now. Scolding herself mentally she walked toward Merci and wrapped an arm around the smaller woman's waist. For a moment she just held her letting out a soft sigh before speaking, "lets find somewhere to rest...and I can tell you about all the company that came with me or rather that will be arriving."

Merci`
Merci scented the air as she drug the taller woman toward the stairs. The citrus smells of furniture cleaner and mop solution still hung pleasantly, but over that was the wonderful aroma of Seraph's marinara sauce. Whatever he was going to serve for dinner would be scrumptious. "I got all kinds of things for you to try out by the way. Bath oils, bath salts, they have these things called bath foams? Not sure what those are yet, oooh and then there are the bubble baths. I know you don't get a lot of soaking time on the Warhammer, so I wanted you to be able to enjoy the experience now that your home."

Merci let go of Cinder when they reached the top of the stairs. At the end of the hall the door was cracked and she could see the tendril of pink hair and part of a blindfold peeking through it. She raised her voice so Vance could hear her, "Vance, get your things packed. You and the other two are going to have to shift out of here and over to the guest house." Her declaration was met with an angry hiss, but the kisune didn't care. She gestured and tried to look at sultry as possible as she lured her love into the bathroom. "I know we said we would talk about who was going to live out there, but to be honest it will be easier for the three of them to nest out there I think. You don't object do you?"

The porcelain gleamed and sparkled as she flicked on the lights. The old clawed bathtub dominated the room and Merci perched on the toilet to give Cinder room to move around.

Cinderfae
There was a bit of quick bustling, Cinder let Merci lead as she wasn't really familiar with all the creatures that had found their way to the house. The medusa was interesting looking but not that much stranger then some of the things she'd run into. At the question she gave a bit of a shrug, "I don't mind, not really familiar with 'em. If they get lonely I'll throw Saki in there. Though once she got started on stealing their shiny things there'd probably be no peace." Gesturing slightly behind her she then glances back to the Kitsune, "I'll have you come onto the ship later on so she can get your scent...and will leave you be." Saki was wonderful at surprising would be thieves, kept people safe if she knew who she wasn't allowed to try and eat.

Grinning slightly Cinder watched Merci as she entered the bathroom, she'd been gone far too long and watching her partner sitting there her current ideas didn't have much to do with talking. Pulling her jacket off she hung it up behind the door before taking anything else off she moved over and leaned down cupping Merci's face as she gave her an involved and rather sound kiss. A smile came over the pirate's face and she just rested her forehead against the kitsune's for sometime; finally she pulled herself back and sat on the edge of the tub leaning to start working on getting her boots off.

"I missed you, quite a bit...I know I wasn't back when I originally was suppose to be," flicking her laces she kept working on her boots as she spoke, "had a bit of business come up, not ... not normal business either. Has to do with a couple guests that are going to be showing up here in about a day."

Merci`
Kissing was definitely something she missed, Cinder had a way of doing it that made everything in the world seem totally small and insignificant in comparison. Merci's lips turned up in a silly grin, and she leaned over to help the other woman with her boots. "Seriously they need to make awesome footwear less complicated, and I was getting worried you weren't coming home at all. I have to admit I haven't really told anyone around here I've met recently about you. Just in case." The kitsune stopped talking then, she didn't wanna voice the fact that she thought Cinder might have been dead. They both had a certain amount of excitement in their lives, and there was always a possibility that when one left, the other wouldn't ever see them again.

She cleared her throat "Are we expecting company? Should I have Seraph air out the other property? Or will they have a ship they can stay on? They do eat good old fashioned chicken and rice? Cause if I have to go out and do special shopping while Dio is throwing fits it's going to be a nightmare."

Oh yeah, she was babbling. Mostly because she did that around Cinder, and secondly because her train of thought had brought up painful memories for her. She had mourned Cinder, and had been completely inconsolable up until Dio was thrown into the mix. In fact now that she thought about it that might have been why the medusa had been so hard on the little shadow. They may have seen him as a manifestation of her self destructive attitude.

He glared from where he was, his head half phased through the ceiling. Ever since Merci had heard that this woman was coming home she had been a whirlwind of giddy activity, and none of it involved him. He could feel the jealousy like a knot in the middle of his body, and he didn't like it.

This... Cinderfae would have to go...

Cinderfae
While Merci leaned down to help her with her boots Cinder reached up and scratched the back of the kitsune's ears petting them for a moment lightly. With a sigh she made herself go on, she'd missed Merci and had half expected her to not be here when she got back to getting planetside. "We'll probably end up selling the other ship, I have a feeling the guests are going to be staying. At least one I know will be and the other...well I don't think there will be any getting rid of her."

Dropping her hand down to her side she continued on, breaking the petting because part of her wondered if that was entirely fair considering the circumstances. "Well there is going to be a teenage boy arriving...I want a room in the house for him." Licking her lips slightly the pirate continued sounding more then a bit nervous as she adds in the last, "he's my son..." mixed in with the nervousness was also a bit of shock - she after all never actually gave birth but still had a child.

Glancing to Merci she knew she'd likely have a long story ahead of her, "...and I never mentioned him before because I didn't know he existed until very recently."

Merci`
Her hands froze on the buckle she had been helping with and her ears flattened out against her head. There was no way she had heard that correctly, Cinder was partially machine after all, there was no way she still...

That didn't mean that she didn't still have all the parts, Merci had just always assumed she didn't. Math, was never her greatest subject and her brain started trying to figure out if she had been gone long enough to have a child, how old that child would be. Certainly hadn't been... not for a teenager.

Everything went about her brain at breakneck speeds and she didn't realize she wasn't verbalizing any of her thoughts. Slowly the deep green eyes moved up from her hands to the face of the woman she loved. "Okay, I am going to try and not freak out. If you would mind telling me how any of this is possible, that would greatly help in keeping me calm however. You've been gone awhile, but not long enough to have a teenager. I would hope that you would notice if a baby fell out of you at one point in your life, and that if you had one you would have told me before this juncture in our relationship. Of course you said you didn't know until recently, so I am assuming that... this has something to do with weirdness beyond my comprehension?"

Merci sat back and crouched on the toilet, resting her body weight on the balls of her feet as she hugged her knees to her chest. This was probably extremely defensive posturing, but she had just gotten the love of her life back. This is more shock then she had been prepared for.

His Guardian was upset, he could feel it through their bond. He wanted to let himself sink through the ceiling and go comfort her, but he had a feeling the nasty Cinder lady wouldn't talk if she saw him. Dio had to let her finish, because if she managed to upset his Merci enough he knew she wouldn't hesitate to kick her tall, leatherclad a** to the curb. Selfish didn't enter his mind for a moment, after all, he was the only one that his lady needed, thank you very much.

Cinderfae
Sighing gently Cinder watched Merci as she curled up, moving over she lifted Merci and sat her on her lap taking over the whole toilet sitting. "First off, I'm not going anywhere...and I love you very much." Wrapping her arms around her Cinder gave the kitsune a hug and for a long moment just held her, the cuddling wasn't just for Merci's reassurance but her own after all she really didn't know what to do about this whole thing either.

"Let me tell you a story," loosing her arms just a little she rested back against the seat looking over to watch Merci as she began to speak again. "Long ago...almost a century now, in a galaxy not so far away on a planet called Sypos I was sixteen years old." Licking her lips slightly she considered how to continue after all she didn't want to upset the kitsune more then she already had, but in the end she decide plain talk would be best. "I was also very much in love, with a savant. A very gifted savant...now savants bond with hyperspace entities and when they hit a certain level of attunement they ascend...and become one with their entity - disappearing into hyperspace."

Cinder paused attempting to keep her voice neutral, but even after all the years that had pasted she still remembered Caspian very well. "Many human savants never ascend, it can take a lifetime and then some to become attuned correctly...but not with Caspian." Sighing gently Cinder attempted to bring about her state of mind when she'd done the next part of her story...but now it seemed so long ago and so strange, "Caspian didn't want me to be left alone. Sypos is a medical planet, we went to one of the facilities, this facility was made to house the DNA of parents so they could create offspring later on. We both gave a bit of DNA a cutting from the skin..." flexing her left hand Cinder glanced down to her wrist she could almost remember the wound it left.

"To shorten it a bit...the next two years of my life turned more then a bit hectic. Caspian disappeared into the nothing of hyperspace, had some falling outs, blew up the estate of one influential bastards on Sypos and made myself a wanted woman. Got teched up a bit later on...forgot all about that bit of DNA."

Sighing gently she paused watching Merci, "well it seems that bit of DNA and Caspian's wasn't destroyed ten years after being put in the bank - like it should have been...and that's where Rhys comes in." There was still much more to tell but she paused giving Merci some time to respond and ask questions.

Merci`
This woman talked about galaxies and planets like she travelled all over them. Which was just plain silliness, Dio watched the learning channel, Nova and all that. None of them mentioned any of this stuff, that you could just climb on a machine and fly off into space.

Though the curiousity that was such a part of him started to stir. What if you could? He started to get so excited at the thought he almost fell through the ceiling.

Merci curled into Cinder and buried her face into the other woman's neck. It felt good to be close to her again, and she smelled something like she remembered. It was a bit like being attached to a greasemonkey that likes lasers, though spaceship grease didn't smell like car grease. One ear lay flat to her head and the other was half cocked to listen to Cinder's story. "So... someone stole your DNA I am assuming.. yes?"

It was such a simple question but it mattered alot. Merci's body had slowly begun to relax while the pirate told her story. She could accept this, at least it wasn't some sordid affair like frozen embryos floating around in space that just needed to be dried out or something. Or... "There aren't like, dozens of frozen Cinderfae babies out there that just have to be zapped with some weird ray gun to start wreaking havok on the universe is there?"

And if they were any other people, that would be a stupid question, but considering their lives...

Cinderfae
Chuckling a bit at the inquiry she tightened her arms again in a hug. "Well the bank was bought out by a bigger corporation, one that specialized in genetics. And they kept the DNA that had been in freeze and used it for their experimentation." A frown came to Cinder's lips as she spoke, "Rhys is the child that would have been created with mine and Caspian's DNA...but they spliced in Draconian DNA as well - so he isn't entirely human. They went other directions with some projects...not all the kids turned out as well as Rhys did." Her tone darkened slightly as she spoke betraying a hint of something that had bothered her greatly.

"That facility isn't standing anymore, there shouldn't be more created by similar means." Reaching up Cinder lightly pet Merci's ears as she continued speaking, "so our guests will be Rhys and Clotho, Clotho is a Draconian. She's known me quite a while and works with a group that went after the kids." Cinder likely would have passed the job on if Clotho hadn't thrown in the trump card of her child in. In the back of her mind she still considered if this was such a good idea...Rhys could have been sent somewhere else, but the truth was her galaxy was at war and gifted or not she didn't want to have to have him grow up like that.

"So...the bath, what is this foamy stuff you were talking about? They won't be here until tomorrow so we have time to relax and get some sleep..."
grinning Cinder nudged gently against Merci's ear at the last.

Merci`
Merci could feel her face scrunching as she tried to imagine everything Cinder laid out for her. Tubes of her life blood out there somewhere, spliced in with other things. Images of tentacle monsters with Cinder's face started dancing their way through the Kitsune's mind and she curled up a little closer to the taller woman. "Wait wait wait, before you get a bath I think you should witness the awesome thing I have learned from my little Dio."

If there was one thing that child could do, it was shoot off questions at a deadly speed and accuracy.

"How do you know your DNA is destroyed and not duplicated out there somewhere? Even people here now how to duplicate small amounts of DNA into a hell of a lot more. I think I heard about Draconians before but you might wanna refresh my memory. They don't have silly numbers of appendages and ooze through air ducts right? He's.. your son, so your not talking about a guest here, your talking about another permanent addition? Or is this Clotho taking him away with her when she leaves? Is she leaving? Do I need to air out the other house? I mean Fiona was going to be coming home soon, I am not sure how long she was planning on staying but we might not have enough room. I never thought I would say that, because this house is disgustingly big and until a few hours ago felt like a huge stretched out over worn sweater whose arms are so long they fall over your fingers. Now we're going to be lucky if we can pee in peace!"

She paused in her strange tirade and thought about it for a moment. "I think I'm upset. In fact I am really really upset. I thought we were going to get some time together. I understand your job and everything, but I just got you back! We couldn't have a week to molest each other into states of pure bliss before all hell descended?" She didn't even pause for breath before she was berating herself, "I am not being fair, he is your son. Of course you want to have him here as soon as possible. I can't blame you, but I am allowed to voice my selfishness. I am of course going to be quite happy to meet him."

Merci turned and stood up from where she was, dragging a basket full of bath supplies from the bathroom counter. The kitsune turned and fixed Cinder with a stare. "Now, you will get fizzies when I get answers."

Dio's burgundy eye softened as he watched the goings on below him. She was learning things from him after all.

Cinderfae
It took Cinder to realize that Merci` hadn't ever seen a Draconian so referencing the race was just confusing to her. She couldn't help it when the tirade started a bit of a grin came to Cinder's face, giving Merci a chance to finish she nuzzled the other woman's neck allowing her to get up for fizzies. "Well a draconian is this..." it was so much easier to show instead of explain somethings, flipping open the device with her things she brought up a holographic image of a draconian. The bipedal creature was tall but with dragon like traits, wings, a tail, and snout. "Hm, Rhys looks normal except he has an addition of wings on his back and scales along his spine."

While Merci got the fizzies going Cinder pulled her top off and continued to strip down. "Hm, and yes it does seem a lot to throw at you..." glances over at Merci and grins slightly, "and even with more around I promise to molest you a -lot- to make up for it." After finishing stripping down she stepped into the bath, "Rhys I would like in the house...for Clotho we should air out a guest house. Your right Rhys is staying...and Clotho is staying she might decide to move on a bit get a place of her own later on. The grounds are big enough that we hopefully won't end up feeling too confined." The estate had been bought once it's now dead owner had passed away, being large and rather unweildly by sheer size Cinder had been able to get a pretty good deal for it all things considered. Relaxing back in the bubbles Cinder glanced over and quirked a brow looking to Merci, "who's Fiona?"

Merci`
Merci settled on the ground next to the tub and leaned her body against it, so she could be close to Cinder but allow her the luxury of a warm soaking bath. She put enough fizz in the water that it almost looked like Cinder was basking in a much clearer version of champagne. The last question actually threw her off a little bit and she got a huge grin, "Oh that's right. Fiona was before I met you. Well Rhys is your son, Fiona is my daughter. Though I have no awesome story to go along with her. I was just getting.. well.. I was settling down and I realized that I was lonely and had no one to share my life with, so I found an orphanage and adopted a child. Turned out that she wasn't entirely human as I had thought, but there are so few things here that truly are. By the time I had met you, she manifested her true nature and was off to school."

The kitsune trailed her fingers in the bath water and turned her green eyes up to meet Cinder's "Fiona is quite grown enough, she chose to be with her own kind for her education. I imagine she wants to visit before she starts trying to figure out what she wants to do for college. I don't expect her to stay too long. Now, I know you don't get to take long soaking baths in space. So I don't want to rush you, but I do want to subtly remind you the longer your in there the less time we get to cuddle."

Dio had seen Merci naked enough times that Cinderfae removing her clothes was not stressful for the little shadow. He didn't fully understand why she felt like telling this intruder everything. His mind was already devising ways to make her feel unwelcome, after all Merci didn't have time to deal with anything other then him.

Cinderfae
Chuckling Cinder flickered a few drops of water toward the Kitsune, "I wouldn't call the story overly 'awesome' and really it doesn't have much to do with me." Smiling gently she stretched her legs out relaxing back in the tub, "I think I'd like to meet Fiona...and well wouldn't hurt to have more around. I don't think we'll be running out of room anytime soon - though we might start to feel like we are a hotel."

Smiling a bit she watched Merci a few moments before responding again, "oh I have quite kept that in mind - the only question is if I drag you off now or if we eat that dinner I heard of before you are dragged off." Leaning up out of the bath Cinder reached to pull Merci into an involved kiss and put an end to questions of if there would be enough time for themselves.

Merci`
His eyes got huge and he canted his head to the side trying to figure out what was happening. That woman was eating his Merci's face! He was about to launch himself through the ceiling when he heard a sound that no kid should hear his mother type figure make.

Something between a groan and a whimper.

It made him freeze, it didn't sound like she was getting hurt. It was when the boots came off and he realized that Merci was trying to eat Cinder's face right back that he kinda freaked out.

He jerked his head right back up through the floor and confusion was dancing through his mind. Oh he was so going to have to ask Maili about what was going on.

With that the little shadow left the two women alone to search for his surrogate caregiver, to bombard her with a trillion questions. She would make him feel better, he was sure of it.

Cinderfae
Cinder headed outside, grabbing the screen door as it swung shut to keep it from making too much of a racket and holding it open for a few moments longer for Merci. "I'm glad we got this place at such a good price - big enough area for landings." Night had fallen and a bit of a chill was creeping up as it set in.

Heading off outward from the house she rested a hand on the small of Merci's back as they made their way to a large opening at the edge of the property. Once in the area the pilot flipped open a device on her wrist and started scrolling through a few things before nodding and snapping it shut.

"They are almost here, Clotho is right on schedule."
Glancing over to Merci she gave a bit of a smile and squeezed the kitsune's hand. She felt plenty stressed and was pretty sure the other woman was probably feeling it more then a bit herself.

Merci`
Merci squeezed Cinder's hand and her brows creased together as she watched her. "Don't you think I should wait back by the house? He's going to be disoriented with being here. Maybe he should see you first before he's confronted by all the new things here." She was fidgeting, she kept shifting her weight from one foot to the other. Honestly Merci hadn't felt like this since her first job, and somehow she had the feeling she was even more ill prepared for this then she was then.

Something big was going on, he had heard them talking all morning about a landing. It had to be that person they had mentioned before in the bathroom. Rhys or whatever his name was. It was one more person to take Merci's attention away from him and he didn't like it one bit. Dio skulked through the darkness, using their distraction to his advantage. He was not the easiest creature to see at night, despite the color of his hair, his body was black and lent to his camouflage. Why were they standing out here in the field? Was this ship they were talking about like the one Cinder had arrived in? Metal boxy thing that flew through the sky?

Curiosity almost overwhelmed his feelings of hostility and bitterness.

Cinderfae
Glancing over Cinder gave Merci a reassuring smile, "I'm only slightly less of a stranger to him then you are. Just want to give him a chance at a life away from the war..." rolling her shoulders the pilot glanced to the sky, her galaxy had been at war for quite a while - when she was young the war had still been in it's start but it continued on.

"Ah there," leaning close Cinder pointed up pinpointing three spots of light within the sky, the three spots of light might have been confused with stars at first - but if you kept your eye on them you could see they moved. And after a few moments they started getting larger as they headed toward the group.

"Hm, I think that's why Clotho wanted to come with him...bit of freedom from other peoples battles." Cinder suspected it was a bit more then that, something that happened to those that fought too long and too hard. Things became foggy and unclear who was the enemy and what the actual mission once was. More then anything else the old pilot believed Clotho was looking for escape.

"She's flying the Defiant, it's a smaller class ship then the Warhammer. Bit faster...more cramped. You wouldn't want to be flying her for real deep space journeys."
A whirling sound was what could be heard first from the ship's engines, and then rather suddenly the Defiant dropped her shields fully and a the dark shape of the ship was seen against the sky. Now rather close to the ground the ship was at least the size of two large cars. The design was sleek obviously meant for speed...as the landing clamps came down for a moment she hung in the air looking very much like a large bird of prey.

"Hm, lovely. Draconian built."
It was more a murmur to herself but the admiration for the ship design was in the pilot's voice. Bringing her hand up she protected her eyes as the ship landed and settled into the ground. Glancing over Cinder gave Merci` another encouraging squeeze of the hand - their guests had arrived.

Merci`
Dio glanced up when he saw Cinder point, and his visible eye widened. Lights were moving across the sky, and then before he knew what was going on, there was a weird looking metal thing hanging above the ground.

Dio darted right over to Merci, forgetting his plan at being stealthy and spying on them. The wind from the engines blew the grass flat and Dio wrapped himself around his guardian's legs.

Merci smiled back at Cinder and was returning the hand squeeze when her little shadow nearly threw her off balance. He wrapped himself around her legs like a cat would, except his body was longer and he somehow managed to curl around both ankles, hobble style. Her green eyes moved down to see both of his arms wrapped around the thigh of her left leg. "Dio?"

He glanced up at Merci and then snuggled closer. He really didn't like the whirring sounds the ship made.

Cinderfae
It didn't take long from the time the ship settled for a door on the side of it to open. The doors were surprisingly quiet, even though the powered seals did make some noise as they were opened. Dull running lights lit up along a hall within the ship outlining a tall figure, the figure was female but was very obviously not human. Large wings sprout from her back and were now resting curled around her shoulders, her face was also reptilian in appearance and her entire body was covered in white scales.

With one last gentle squeeze to Merci, Cinder stepped forward and opened her hands in a hug to the creature, "Clotho! Looking well, quite a long flight in a ship this size."

Clotho's lips turned in amusement at the statement and reached over giving Cinder a hug, "not that long, just don't require as many comforts. Though I think your son might disagree with that." Letting go of Cinder the draconian moved to the side revealing a teenage boy with large midnight blue wings standing back quietly observing the interaction. When attention was shifted in his direction he took a few steps forward.

"Greetings..." biting his lip slightly he shifted from one foot to the other looking uncertain.

Cinder stood a long moment as well the pilot caught between the thought that she should move forward and offer him a hug as she had Clotho or if she should let him be. Only sitting in the awkward pause a moment Cinder moved forward and reached out to embrace the boy. The hug was a little akward in and of itself, but Rhys did give a bit of a smile as Cinder pulled back.

"Alright Rhys, Clotho I'd like you to meet Merci..."
glancing down Cinder quirked a brow spotting Dio but continued with introductions, "and Dio."

Clotho stepped forward offering her hand in a warrior's clasp to Merci, Cinder usually stood several inches above the other girl but Clotho towered. Rhys hung back quietly flitting his gaze over the others.

Merci`
Merci would have stepped forward to meet Clotho, but Dio had her legs sort of pinned in place. She did however accept the Dragonic womans greeting, gripping tightly enough not to be thought weak, despite her diminutive size. Her tail lashed a bit as she glanced up at Rhys, her ears pricked forward, betraying her curiosity about the boy. "Nice to meet you Rhys."

Dio uncurled from her legs and settled on hiding behind her, his right hand gripping her bicep as he peered at the newcomers over her shoulder. He couldn't contain himself and his excitement. 'Did you come from the stars? Can you fly up and see them? Touch them? Do they talk to you too?'

Merci blinked and almost turned all the way around to look Dio square on. Instead she settled for staring at him over her shoulder. "Dio! They are guests, can we let them settle in before we bombard them with all of this?" She turned back and looked apologetic.

Cinderfae
Clotho shifted her attention to Dio as he asked his questions, crooking a ridge over one eye she shifted her gaze down to the shadow. Watching Dio a moment she gave him a curious once over before speaking, "you can fly up with the stars, but I wouldn't suggest touching one - good way to get burned up." At Merci's apology Clotho gave a bit of a smile and shrugged, "nothing to apologize for, I don't mind talking a bit." Shifting her gaze back Clotho studied him a moment longer, "so...what sort of life form are you exactly?" Stepping off of the ramp Clotho moved off to the side, "as for stars talking...that depends on the person really. But the best captains can hear them sing."

Chuckling softly Cinder motioned Rhys along and moved off the ramp as well, "The house we share isn't too far from here," shifting her gaze over she looked to Rhys, the boy was still very pale a life almost completely indoors hadn't agreed with his complexion.

Rhys moved off of the ramp shuffling a bit and looking somewhat out of place. Sucking a breath in Cinder reached over and rested a hand on his shoulder, "it's good to have you here..."

At the gesture Rhys glanced up and the look of relief was visible in his eyes, shifting his gaze some he looked to Merci and Dio giving them each a slight smile and nod.

Merci`
Merci smiled and glanced from Dio to Clotho, "Dio is a, well I think I head them called Shadows or Fiends? Souls torn from their exsistances and placed in little stones." Merci gestured toward her boy's chest as she spoke, indicating the Black Star Diopside that rested there. "That's why we call him Dio, he didn't come with a name. So I took part of the rocks name."

Dio zoomed right past Merci and floated in the air right in front of Clotho, his enthusiasm overriding his normal shyness. 'You can hear the stars sing too? I hear them all the time, but it's a jumble of noises. Sometimes I can hear one or two if I really try hard to listen, but I don't understand a word of it. You can fly up in the sky with the stars? I wanna go! Can you take me?'

He wasn't at all phased by how she looked, and he stared at her with his bright burgundy eye. Dio's tail swished back and forth with his excitement.

Merci opened her mouth to apologize for Dio, and then decided it wasn't worth the trouble. He would likely keep accosting Clotho till he was content he had all of his answers. Instead she turned her attention over to Cinder and Rhys. She shifted a little closer toward them and her own tail swished behind her as she regarded Rhys, "I don't know how much Cinder and you have talked, or what you heard about me. But anything bad she said is a lie I tell you."

She grinned, slightly elongated k-9's noticable in her mouth. "I think we figured out what room your going to have, but we haven't had time to clean it all out yet. We can go shopping though and get you some furniture and the like if you would like to later."

Merci was trying, she always felt out of her depth with kids and teenagers, especially ones she wanted to like her.

Cinderfae
Clotho watched Dio a long moment the Draconian nodded in a patient manner, she decided that the shadow thing was some sort of child so was somewhat more prepared for his mentality. "Hm, well if your lookin' ta take a ride," pausing Clotho gestured to Cinder, "you'll have to take it up with the captain." A small smile came to her face as she looked over to Cinder her lip twitching slightly to hold back a laugh. At least the energetic creature would keep Cinder occupied from the larger worry on her mind a moment.

Rhys smiled slightly picking up on the jest, nodding slightly and pausing a moment, "really we didn't have much time to speak...and your infamy never came up."

Picking up on the conversation of shopping Cinder nodded in agreement, "and clothing..." her eyes shifted to his wings. She knew he didn't really have clothing of his own and Draconian clothing wouldn't fit him considering the difference in his bone structure. "We'll look around and get what you like, but if you want...we could find a tailor and get you some smart silk shirts in ... well whatever style you want." She knew she was giving him a lot of leeway but considering what that place had looked like, Cinder decided he needed a bit of pampering.

Merci`
Dio's head turned toward Cinder and he seemed to lose some of his excitement. 'I have to ask her?' He didn't seem to keen on the idea. Okay sure he had come out here with the thought of doing something horrible to mess this stuff up for the redheaded pilot, but what Vance and Maili had said was starting to sink in.

He was trying to do to her, what was done to him when he had come into the home. Dio didn't like to think of himself as mean, and so he took a deep breath and zoomed away from Clotho, attaching himself to Merci. He pressed his form up against her back, peeking over her shoulder, his right hand on her shoulder and his left dangling uselessly as usual.

Dio thought about asking, but he couldn't make himself do it. He might be willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but he wasn't quite ready to be nice quite yet.

Merci snapped her fingers, "I bet Maili could do it, she's really good with that sort of thing. We could go pick up some material and whip up some really nice stuff." It didn't seem to phase her that Dio had latched onto her in the slightest. "I really should have thought of this kind of thing before."

She had spent the better part of her time trying to organize her junk in the storage units that were scattered around the property so they could fit more in.

The fiend stared at Rhys and then detached himself from Merci to float in front of the boy. 'Hi, I'm Dio. I know you heard my name before but I wanted to tell you. You can come share my room until your's gets cleaned out. I don't hardly stay in there anyway. I could show you my telescope if you wanted.'

Merci almost stopped walking. Her boy was hardly ever this outgoing unless he had an ulterior motive, like with Clotho he wanted a ride. She shot a worried look at Cinder but decided not to say anything. Who knows, maybe they could be friends?

Cinderfae
Cinder quirked a brow glancing back only catching part of what Clotho was saying, but when Dio didn't come over to her she let it settle. She was having enough trouble relating to Rhys let alone Dio. A work in progress she decided...

Rhys nodded slightly at Merci's suggestion, curling his wings a bit more tightly around himself. He knew he'd need special clothing but it was a reminder he wasn't really happy with thinking about, "yeah...that would be nice." He murmured slightly glancing over at those gathered and feeling very alone, most of his life had been alone the main difference in this case was that he was alone in the middle of a crowd.

"Alright lets get heading in then..." Cinder motioned back toward the house, she could tell Rhys wasn't feeling very talkative and truthfully she didn't know what to say to him anyways.

When Dio came around to talk to him Rhys paused to regard him, "well nice to meet you um, Dio. I'm Rhys as you heard..." he glanced over toward where the house was said to be at the mention of the room. "That'd be nice," his brow quirked a bit, "what sort of telescope is it? What power?"

Merci`
Dio perked immediately, and he started gushing about his prized possession. 'It's an optical telescope, it magnifies up to 15 mm, I can see pretty far. It's really good for pinpoint visuals of different stars.' His visible eye sparkled as he babbled for a moment or two, 'My room isn't very big, but I don't spend a lot of time there. You'll have to come up to the Walk and see my hideout. Maili sometimes comes up and reads stories to me. Do you like stories? You could come up and listen when she reads too you know.'

Merci moved over and took Cinder's hand in hers. This was a good sign, Dio was rarely so outgoing, and he was making an effort to be Rhys friend. She moved her green eyes up to Cinder and gave her a wink. "You doing alright?"

Alright so she was a little thankful for Dio's insatiable curiosity and skill at bombarding someone in questions right now. It took away some of the stress at trying to figure out what to ask and how to act around the new comers.

Cinderfae
Rhys nodded slightly listening, "I'll show you something I think you'll like. It's like a map to the stars," Rhys grinned slightly at the fiend's enthusiasm. "Maybe we can find things on it and then look at them through your telescope...I haven't gotten to map the local constellations though. Think you could help with that?" He had a feeling that the shadow creature likely wouldn't be use to the hologram his mapping device would create, it was a little strange getting use to it but Dio's enthusiasm gave him something to focus on other then all the strange changes.

Smiling Cinder gave Merci's hand a gentle squeeze, "I think I am, lets get everyone inside and figure out what we are doing from there." Cinder glanced over to Clotho, "if your planning on staying we should figure out what to do with your ship...don't want to many laying around in the same backyard."

Leaning down Cinder took a moment to whisper in Merci's ear, "once we get everyone settled we can go tuck each other in." It was likely an unneeded gestures but at the moment she was looking forward to being able to lock herself away for a time with something more comfortable and less hectic.

Merci`
The fiend gasped and he moved forward suddenly, wrapping himself around Rhys in a quick hug, 'I wanna see! Can you show me now? Is it like the roll out maps they have on posters? Merci would have gotten me one of those but the one I want is to big.' He paused long enough for the pout in his voice to be heard. 'I would be happy to help you map the constellations, though there are things on... line.. online! Thats what Maili calls it, on the computer that shows all the constellations around here.'

It didn't dawn on Dio that he was talking to quickly, asking to many questions, or talking about people that Rhys hadn't met. He was just happy that he had someone that seemed genuinely interested in the same things he was.

Merci walked beside Cinder and she sighed quietly. All the sleepless nights and the stress seemed to melt off of her for the moment. She was simply content with her life and her new family. Dio's reaction was such a pleasant surprise. She thought she would have to deal with him lashing out, and instead he was embracing the change. It was beyond her wildest dreams, and she was happy.

Her voice was a low rumble when she spoke back to Cinder, very quietly, "I would like that. I haven't been able to sleep lately, though I think I could if you were there."

Cinderfae
Chuckling Rhys let the fiend continue on until he seemed to find a lull in his questions. "Well I do have some equipment you might find interesting, I'm not very familiar with the information sharing you are use to here but...I suspect it's like what we used back home - which is what the online is." Rhys tapped his fingers over the side of the bag he was carrying, "I would like to think it's much better then a roll out map. I can bring the stars up so images of them float in the room with you." From the way the fiend talked Rhys was pretty sure it was still young and he had no idea what sort of technology they used on the planet so he hoped his explanations were sufficient.

Watching Cinder a moment he grinned and lowered his voice in a conspiratorial manner to the fiend, "as for mapping we might have to borrow a ship." Now he was pretty sure Cinder would take them up, but it was more amusing to plot.

As they approached the house Cinder glanced back toward Rhys and Dio, "alright, I don't think anyone minds if Dio doesn't if you share his room tonight. I'll show you the room you can have tomorrow Rhys...needs cleaning out though." Waiting for Merci to take the steps ahead of her Cinder pat the Kitsune on the bottom before following up the steps behind her. "I'll make sure you get some sleep tonight," Cinder murmured again as she opened the door for the group.

Merci`
Dio's visible eye went wide and he floated close enough to Rhys to take his arm. 'Floating pictures?! Like I'm floating? Up in the AIR? I wanna see I wanna! Can we do it now? Please?' The fiend was so awfully curious! How did he manage to find a picture that floated in the air? It simply had to be some form of magic, and he would figure it out. After all he could feel magic when someone was using it.

And just like that Dio accepted Rhys. It wasn't something he conciously thought about, it simply was. 'Come on hurry hurry! I'll show you my room and you can show me your floating pictures!' With his hand still on Rhy's arm he tried to hurry the boy through the door and up the stairs. It would be so much easier if Rhys could fly and go through walls like he could.

The impatience was killing him!

Merci walked into the foyer after Cinder and she put a hand on her arm. "Let Dio show him around. I need to lay down." She'd been getting more sleep with Cinder around, but she didn't feel rested at all. The word getting things ready for the new arrivals was enough to make Merci feel stretched thin. "You can check on them after you tuck me in." The tone was playful, but the edge of exhaustion was starting to show.

Cinderfae
Rhys spared a glance back toward Cinder and Merci before letting Dio lead him along, "alright alright, we need to set up the mat first...." gripping his bag he made sure that his case didn't get bashed into the walls on the way up.

The mat was actually several panels that were linked together upon the floor, he'd then hook his laptop up to the side of the mat and input the information. Above the mat the holographic picture would appear.

Cinder watched the two rush up the stairs before looking over to Merci, it seemed that Clotho had found her way off somewhere as well, "hm, rest is something I could go for..." reaching over Cinder leaned and picked Merci up in her arms. She was already taller then the kitsune and her cybernetics although not visibly apparent made it so she barely noticed the weight of the other women as she started up the stairs. "I think you need some pampering...you do seem to worry something awful, so it's only fair." And without further ado Cinder carried Merci off to their room with the thought in mind that she'd make sure the Kitsune was relaxed and rested.

From within the room there was a crashing sound and then soft cursing as a dust drifted out into the hall in a thick cloud. Choking on the dust the dark haired boy made his way to a nearby window pushing it open and cough some as he leaned outside letting the cool air hit his face for a moment.

"Ugh, by the stars this is horrible," Rhys rested on the window sill his eyes half closed as he peered out at the yard. It wasn't fair on so many levels if he wanted his own room he had to clean it out; and he suspected that not even the gods knew where half the junk in this place had come from.

A thud from the room behind drew his attention, he glanced over his shoulder not bothering to actually turn he assumed, and right, that it was just Peeps. "What are you doing over there?"

"It's not horrible, I found this book!" The priman's voice was overly loud to Rhys' ears; but despite the noise he couldn't help but smile watching the four armed cat creature peering over his latest find.

"So what exactly is your wonderful find?"

"It's hand written, maybe it's a journal or something. A long lost journal wi -" Peeps cut off as Rhys snatched the book out of his hand.

"You didn't even bother to read what you found..." letting out a slight sigh Rhys turned the page of the book looking it over. "I hate to tell you this but you didn't find some long lost journal...you found an old cookbook."

"A cookbook?" Instead of pulling the book away Peeps instead attempted to crawl up Rhys to get a look at the book in his hands. The priman stood up a bit above waist height for an adult, his climbing caused Rhys to flop back. Struggling and flapping his wings he fought to stay on his feet but ended up on his back.

With a huff Rhys' eyes fell on Peeps, who now had taken to sitting on his chest looking over the book, "Get Off." The command was spoken in a low angry voice. Peeps looked instantly sheepish and hurriedly scurried off of Rhys. "Cooking though! I could cook."

"No you can't cook, remember last time you tried to cook? You started the water on fire - water on fire...your not cooking." Rhys stayed laying a moment before struggling up to his feet. "Cinder won't let you cook and would kill me if I allowed you to cook. And your making a this place a bigger mess then it needs to be." Grumbling to himself he pulled another box down and opened it looking inside, inside appeared to be holiday decorations. "Peeps, you were here with Cinder before - right? Do you recognize these?" He held up a gold and silver star looking somewhat confused as his eyes settled on the priman.

"Oh! That's for Yule, you will like it. There are gifts and shiny things..."
Peeps voice drifted off dreamily..."lots and lots of shiny things."

"Um, so this goes into the junk being reallocated to the basement?"
As he asked Rhys leaned down taking time to search through the box. "I don't think it is all 'Yule' stuff..." Rhys pulled a black lacquer jewelry box. Peeps by that point was no longer listening as he had found Christmas lights in the box and was wrapping himself in them speaking quickly about how he was putting them in his cubby.

For now Rhys ignored the priman and focused on what he had found. Moving his hands over the jewelry box he frowned as the lid would not open. Turning it over he started looking for a latch of some sort, Peeps during this time ran out of the room wrapped in the Christmas lights. The frown deepened as he realized there was no obvious latch on the box either. As his thumb slide over one of the side panels part of it moved, "puzzle box," Rhys murmured under his breath they use to give these to him at the hospital to see how long it would take him to figure it out. His eyes locked on the box and his hands started moving quickly. Although he was figuring the box out only part of his mind was on that task; as the other half was remembering the overly bright room and sitting on a hard table in a white jumpsuit with a similar box in his hands working on it's solution much as he was working on this one. It took him a little over three minutes to figure out the patterning to this particular puzzle; frowning a little he set it down, "too slow." It took him a few moments but when nothing bad happened for his slowness as it would have happened in the hospital he finally picked the jewelry box back up.

Curiosity soon filled his mind again banishing thoughts of the past. With a swift movement he opened the top of the box up. Inside he found several small pieces of jewelry. A silver locket in the shape of a heart on a silver chain, a charm bracelet with three charms on it, a tarnished silver ring, some earrings not all with mates, and to the very bottom he spotted a loose stone. Wrinkling his brow Rhys reached for it, it appeared much bigger then anything you would normally put in jewelry. Picking it up he saw it was a very dark green stone it wasn't cut but it did appeared as if it had been shined, he ran his thumb over the irregular sides of it thoughtfully. "I wonder what it wa-" Rhys cut his sentence feeling the stone move in his hand. Pausing a moment he held very still uncertain if he had really felt anything or not. Letting his breath out slowly once it seemed that nothing was actually moving, Rhys relaxed and at that moment the stone didn't just move but started to float in front of him.

He stared at the floating gem a long moment before reaching to pinch himself on the arm only to find that he did seem to be awake and that pinching himself hurt more then he originally would have suspect it would. Continuing to stare at the hovering gem Rhys opened his mouth to yell for Cinder...Clotho...someone - at the last moment he stopped the yell equating to a strangled sound in his throat as he cut it off. Crawling forward he watched it a moment it bobbed slightly in the air at eye level. His eyes settled on the shadows flitting around the edges of it and he frowned. "Your like...Dio the," he then pauses for a long moment unsure if it would be offended, "thing that Merci has...or er watches." Frowning ever so slightly Rhys reached out attempting to poke at the wisp. The wisp bounced to the side a bit of shadow brushed against Rhys finger and he felt a tug at his mind that felt distinctively like laughter. Blinking a moment he glared at the wisp now almost positive that it was laughing at him.

Glancing over to the door, "I should go find Cinder...talk to her about you or something." The wisp just bobbed in the air a few more moments, but then moved quickly to blend in Rhys shadow hiding away as Peeps barged back into the room.

"My cubby is amazing now!" Peeps announced loudly to the room.

Looking suspiciously to his shadow where he had seen the wisp disappear to he then looked back at Peeps, if it didn't want to be seen then it wouldn't....which means everyone would think he's crazy. Sighing gently he looks back to the door, "Peeps...why don't you go feed Saki."

"By myself?!"

"Yes, by yourself." Rhys had just finished his response before Peeps was darting down the stairs worried he'd change his mind if he stayed around too long.

Once the Priman was gone, he leaned down to where he assumed the wisp was, "Are you there?" After a short moment the wisp appeared from his shadow and once again bobbed in the air near him. Once he could see it again Rhys stood up quickly and moved back attempting to put some distance between him and the wisp. The wisp moved along speeding up as he did keeping less then a foot between them.

Not watching his footing Rhys finds himself falling backward as his legs encounter a stray box. "Ow," wincing some the boy lays on his back his wings sprawled uncomfortably. The wisp bobs through the air and hovers over him moving down toward his left eye over his identification markings from the hospital as if inspecting them. Groaning to himself Rhys lays his head back, "your not going to just go away are you?"

Rhys tiredly peeked one eye open, he could hear the others of the household downstairs. Stretching out he pushed himself, as he came to a more upright position the wisp bobbed in front of him. Sighing gently Rhys looked back at his pillow considering if it would be bad or not to just lay back down and pretend he was asleep. But then something out of the corner of his eye caught his attention, the small wisp bobbed in the air again just within view. Groaning slightly the boy pushed himself over to be propped on his side, "can't you let a guy sleep?" The wisp of course did not answer but just continued to bob at him.

Grumbling to himself Rhys got out of bed, looking over his room which was only cleared about half way he sighed looking a bit defeated before going to pull some clothing for the day out of his bag. It wasn't until he had his shirt on and pants laced that he realized that his room was quite different then normal; it was quiet. "I wonder where Peeps is," muttering quietly to himself he headed out the door and downstairs. From the brightly lit kitchen he could hear the others from the house, he hadn't really been too keen on really meeting them all but along with the others he could hear Cinder's voice. A wave of uneasiness started to creep up on him. In theory he knew he should love his mother and that she wanted the best for him; but at the same time there was always something awkward about their meetings.

She didn't know she had me, he reasoned with himself but a smaller darker more unhappy bit of his mind added, and she doesn't really want me.

After a brief moment of hesitation Rhys made his way into the kitchen. he hadn't wanted to sit outside listening to the others too long it would have just left him feeling awkward, or rather more awkward the sunny kitchen with the large window that opened out to the yard always made him feel that way. There was something about it all, it was too normal...too nice, those that lived here obviously all had their own flaws but sometimes in the quieter spots or the more lovely spots it just all felt unreal. As Rhys moved into the more brightly lit kitchen tektite hid even deeper into his shadow.

"Mornin' Rhys," Cinder glanced up from a clipboard she was looking over, the star pilot had taken two chairs for herself and most of one side of the dining room table. She was reclined back in her chair with her long legs stretched out and propped on another chair various papers laid about in front of her. "Did you give Peeps that recipe book?" Glancing up over her paper Cinder settled her stormy gray eyes on the boy.

"Er, I didn't really give it to him. I more...didn't stop him from running off with it when we found it." Rhys shifted his gaze to where the priman was messing with various things in the kitchen.

"Well just a warning - but priman really aren't known to be very good cooks. Lets just hope he doesn't burn anything down." For her part the pilot didn't sound overly worried.

"I won't burn it!" Peeps glanced over his shoulder at the two and gave them a glare before continuing on with what he was doing.

"Did you feed Saki last night?" Cinder shifted slightly rolling her eyes up to look at Rhys. The tone of her voice hinted that she already knew the answer to that.

With a slight wince Rhys gave a quick shake of his head, if she had already known why did she have to ask like that, grumbling a bit in his mind he looked back to Cinder she was giving him one of those 'you know what you have to do looks.' Sighing Rhys glanced over to the tea kettle and coffee pot he'd have to wait to get some, "right...I'll go do that now."

Smiling slightly Cinder inclined her head slightly, "good idea, after all I really don't want to explain missing dogs to the neighbors."

"Yeah...that would be horrible,"
with a slight grumble to himself Rhys headed to the door and gathered his shoes before heading out. Once outside he went around to the nearby shed. Tektite moved from his shadow to the shadow of the nearby shed bobbing a bit and seemingly looking over the base of the structure, what for was questionable. Rhys sat for a few moments fumbling with keys but got the door of the shed open without too much delay - as the shadow started to disappear Tektite dashed toward it's guardian's shadow again. "Careful there...it's going to be sunny today." Rhys half murmured to the wisp as he leaned down picking up a cage set on the floor of the shed, a large rat moved around inside of the carrier. Sighing Rhys didn't even bother looking at it, after all it was going to be Saki's breakfast in a few moments.

Mindful of the angle of the sun Rhys attempted to give as much shadow to the wisp as possible on his way to the ship, the door of the vessel gave a slight hiss as the doors opened. Stepping inside Rhys sighed relaxing some the ship always made him feel good...relaxed - at home. The sterile metal, no frills, and coldness were familiar to him. A bit of a thrill seemed to run through tektite as well the wisp flittered up against the control panel as they came in, it seemed as if the wisp was studying it with quite a bit of curiosity. "Come on..." Rhys frowned some as he spoke a curious look on his face as he observed the wisp. He wondered how it thought for a moment, it seemed so different and strange on many levels. Then again he hadn't ever had some shadow spirit thing following him around...at least as far as he could tell that was what Dio was.

Sighing Rhys started down the corridor, Saki really could be anywhere on the ship but she was only suppose to be fed in her room - helped keep the mess from other places in the ship. At least there was an automatic system that sprayed the blood down, Rhys thought to himself he'd have hated to get stuck with that as well when it came to feeding her. While the boy's thoughts wandered the lights in the hall started to shift in color until they turned red and the dull sound of an alarm vibrated through the ship. Wincing Rhys put the cage of the now frightened and rather frantic rat down.

"Mycroft? Hells...",
standing for what seemed like an eternity into the noise finally after only five minutes Mycroft quieted the alarm.

"I do apologize young master but you have an unidentified and uncharted life form with you," with a soft click a small platform snapped out of the wall and a hologram of an older gentleman in a suit appeared. "I cannot allow you to go further on the ship until it has been added to our charts."

Rhys sighed again, shifting a wing a little to get a look at the wisp under it - it was particularly interesting that Mycroft had picked it up as a life form. "What exactly are you picking up on?" He figured he had better ask after all the AI might just be having issues over the rat or something; stranger things had happened.

"The creature hovering two point five inches from the top of your wing. I believe you are aware of it's presence?"
As Mycroft spoke a series of lights flickered on and started scanning over Rhys.

Mumbling a bit shifting his gaze over at the scanners, "yeah I know it's there."

"Uncharted creature does not appear to be a danger to you or the ship - you may proceed. All information will be archived and the captain will be notified of the new information."

Rhys had picked up the cage again and was eager to get down the hall, frowning some he paused listening. The captain...that meant Cinder...his mother. "You know...you don't have to bring it to the captain's attention..." arguing with an AI, Rhys suspected it wasn't his greatest hour, attempting such a thing was like attempting to run in circles on a treadmill. As Rhys attention was pulled toward Mycroft's hologram, Tektite bobbed toward one of the control panels that happened to fall within Rhys shadow.

"Control the organism or I will be forced to take protective protocols," the hologram shifted some as if moving to observe tektite.

"...what is it doing?" Rhys was much more curious then alarmed by the behavior and really if the wisp wasn't going to stop whatever it was doing he wasn't sure he could really make it.

"I'm not sure but I can feel it's energy - it is not comforting." The upset in the voice of the normally composed AI was enough to move Rhys into action.

"Come on...leave the ship alone. Lets feed Saki and get out of here."

It wasn't until Rhys started to move away and the bit of shadow that tektite was hiding in started to move with him that the wisp bothered to move from the panel it had been inspecting. Grumbling to himself and with the sinking suspicion that things were going to get interesting once Cinder found out what Mycroft had recorded Rhys moved to the room at the end of the hall.

Saki wasn't confined to one room, but she did have a specific feeding area. Sighing Rhys opened the cage up and let a rather confused looking rat out of it, "sorry fella - your breakfast." Glancing up Rhys spotted one of Saki's tentacles moving high in the room, hurriedly stepping back he shut the door on the rat behind him, a few seconds later a sickening crunch was heard as the land octopus moved in on it's prey.

"Sorta glad I didn't have breakfast yet,"
Rhys shifted his gaze over toward the wisp as he confided wondering if it actually understood him. After only a few more moments he found himself standing near the door out. His stomach complained at the lack of breakfast and he dreaded that Mycroft would tell Cinder about the wisp. Really it wasn't likely that Cinder would make him get rid of it or something...but for now the wisp was his - just his. He'd never really had anything that was just his before and if he told Cinder then it ... it wouldn't be as special.

With more then a touch of conflict in his mind Rhys hit the palm pad to exit the ship, "lets go get a cup of coffee..." heading out he steered away from the house and off toward town. One of the few places he was familiar with was the coffee shop, and getting lost in a sea of strangers appealed to him at the moment.

..Task for the shop..

His mood was foul - there was no other way to phrase it. Tail swishing irritably behind him, Hawk moved about the shop in a flurry. He was arranging and displaying various new pieces. After all, he was going off what he knew would catch the eyes of those coming in.

It did not distract him from what had him annoyed. The idea of amusing Athan with a tarot card reading had gone horribly wrong when it had turned from light hearted fun to something far more serious. When the reading was over - well, he did not think about that part.

Instead he had shredded the tarot cards and went about his day with Athan, even though the reading had damaged it.

Sighing to himself, he lowered himself down to eye-level with the display case. His fingers were pressed against it, using his Sight to see what was within and what he needed to add from the tray at his side.

Cinderfae
He didn't want to head home just yet so instead of heading back to the house he turned from the coffee shop further into town. Tek drifted along hiding in his shadow, the brightness of the day making the wisp more then a little uncomfortable; for his part Rhys at least attempted to keep under the shade of the awnings. He didn't know much about the wisp but from observing Dio from afar and the wisp's general reactions he had figured it out.

More shops soon came into view when a thought flittered through Rhys' mind. If he wasn't mistaken the shop shouldn't be too far from where he was, he hadn't really been there since the masquerade party but if anyone could tell him about the new addition following him around it would be them.

Turning down a side street Rhys quickly navigated his way to the shop - he remembered the path he took from the party which now seemed like so long ago. In a short amount of time he found himself standing in front of the shop, he stood a long moment until a passerby startled him. Better get moving before someone gets upset. With more then a bit of worry and uncertainty he pushed the door open and stepped inside.

Rhys scanned the area almost missing Hawk crouched down near a display case, he took a step toward the fiend once noticing him. "Hello?"

azuredreams
'Incoming,' he half grumbled to himself. His tail still swished irritably behind him, fingers unlocking the clasp to the display and opening it up.

The door opened just as he began putting the jewelry in for display, vary carefully arranging them so that each piece was visible. It was not something that someone could easily do - at least blind as he was, but he had his Sight to help.

'Greetings,' came the quiet voice, not bothering to keep all the irritation of the day out of his tone. A somewhat new guardian, he thought, with a wisp that still clung to his shadow so. 'There is not much to see here today, unlike the party ...'

Boredom ruled - it was why he was rearranging display pieces.

Cinderfae
Rhys shifted from one foot to another a bit uneasily, he didn't have much experience with others but he could pick up the irritation in the fiend's voice. He wondered for a moment if he should leave, after all he had come here on more of a whim then anything else. Shifting from one foot to the other he took a moment before speaking again.

"Well it's quieter if nothing else," his gaze flickered to the display that Hawk was working on. "I actually prefer the quiet...but well er I didn't really come to see anything I just." Shifting from one foot to the other he shifted his gaze to his shadow where Tek was hiding, "well this is the only place that knows about, er...well," at a bit of loss for words he just gestured to his shadow.

His gaze followed the fiend as he moved from case to case, "but...I suspect your not having a very good day. I can leave this for another time if you like."

azuredreams
Closing the display and tilting his head just slightly, he looked towards Rhys briefly and then Tektite in his shadow. His tail flicked behind him slowly, as if in thought, before he pushed himself up. With tray in hand, he went to set it down on Reyna's desk ( though he frequently swiped it for himself whenever she was not at the shop ).

'Information all ways comes at a cost, you know,' he said, tilting the mask on his face so that he could really look at Rhys. 'But what do you want to know about your wayward shadow?' That information, at least, he could give for free.

Cinderfae
Wrinkling his brow some Rhys considered the whole price thing before looking back to Hawk, "well...I just found it. And I've only ever seen them before at the party and well Dio." He frowned some, part of it he realized was he hated feeling out of the loop, he'd been out of the loop for far too much of his life as it was.

"So," sighs gently, "anything about it, I now the stone is Tektite. But that's about it." He shrugged a bit glancing over his shoulder, where Tek decided to float up to, now that they were out of the direct sunlight the little wisp seemed curious of it's surroundings.

His eyes drifted to Hawke's mask somewhat curiously, "I was considering trying to find Dio to talk to...but he really isn't fond of er, my mother -" there was a pause and more then a little awkwardness at the word mother before Rhys continued on, "or anyone associated with her."

azuredreams
'More than just a stone,' he sighed, fingers brushing and pushing the mask firmly on top of his head - the allure was under control so far as he was concerned. A little bleed through was bound to happen. The mask also pushed the hair from his face, blind eyes truly visible and focused on Rhys.

'We're called shadow fiends, but not all of us are fiendish.' Though it went unsaid that some were. 'Most of us are actually quite mischievous, it seems - inherent from being from darkness, you know.' He floated closer, tail swishing behind him lazily, just a slight twitch of annoyance presence. This one, really - did he have no idea what he had gotten into with the wisp?

'That wisp ...' He raised a hand towards it, darkness spreading from his fingertips as if to further cloak it. The additional shadows did not last long, however, his control over darkness somewhat wavering - not that it was something noticeable. Just another annoyance. Darkness. It was everywhere. 'Is a soul that was trapped within the stone of Tektite.'

Cinderfae
Rhys studied the fiend as it moved toward him, his eyes settling on the strange blind spheres that seemed locked on him as it spoke. It...he had been referring to the the wisp as an it but this one he was rather assured was male. He wanted to ask about the mask, but wasn't very sure he'd want to hear the answer.

Rhys nodded slightly, he had met Dio before but never had it explained to him, hearing that a soul had been trapped inside the tektite was a bit of a surprise he honestly had assumed they were some other creature that used the stone of incubation or something along those lines.

When Hawke reached and extended the darkness around Tek, the wisp moved closer bobbing in the darkness a distinct feeling of curiousity coming from it. Once the shadows began to subside however the wisp moved back sinking into the shadow of his bonded.

Wrinkles his brow thoughtfully before continuing, "hmm, well do I have to do anything in particular with him? And if...he's a fiend like you are...then your bonded is around here somewhere?" It stood to reason afterall he was here so Tektite was here, at home Dio more or less went where Merci was.

azuredreams
'Sustain him, help him, watch him grow ...' Make sure that if there were past mistakes, that he does not commit them again. 'You are his bonded, he will need your energy to survive. Keep him close, you won't like what will happen if you don't.' Hawk's tail twitched in mild amusement at what could happen if Rhys did try and keep his distance from Tektite.

Not that he really could at this stage, but it was still a distracting thought. His face however darkened briefly when being asked about his bonded. 'We are meant to stay close to our bonded - at all times. It creates undue stress if we are not. The older one becomes, it is easier to be great distances from your bonded.' He paused, his tail twitching from side to side haltingly. 'Time and trial can increase your shadow's ability to stay apart - I do not recommend it, it is stressful and damaging - just as age does.

'My soul-bonded demon,' he paused, looking towards the back where Athan had been earlier, 'is not here.' In fact, the stress it took for him to be able to be without Wren had taken years to withstand. 'I've a bond with Athan that takes it place as a surrogate. We all have a bond with him, as he is the one that released us. Some stronger than others ...' It went without saying his was strong.

But also brought him back to the fact that the tarot card reading was still at the forefront of his mind. How horrible it had been.

'Information is at your fingertips and I wonder - do you want it?' Did Rhys really want to know what Hawk could tell him about the shadows and their guardians - as well as the man that released them?

Cinderfae
Rhys glanced over to his left where Tek had taken to bobbing in the air right in his line of sight, Hawke had said 'him' that sort of cleared up one of the small wonders he had of the wisp. The distance he had gotten an idea of from hearing about Dio but having it said straight out made him frown for a slight moment but only briefly. He'd grown up alone and having the wisp with him even for just a little over a day and a half was already starting to make him feel a bit more worn then usual.

Shifting slightly Rhys considered asking about Hawke's bonded, but he had a feeling that a bonded was a sensitive subject and being a demon he figured it could be even more so. Nodding again Rhys took a moment to bring up the image of Athan at the party in his mind. So he had a bond to all of these shadow fiends considering how strange it already was for him...he couldn't imagine what it would be like to have all of them bonded to you.

Rhys had for the most part been listening passively when his attention was drawn to Hawke's last statement. His attention abruptly shifted fully and directly to the fiend and then for a moment his eyes got distant as he remembered.

Years of living in the same rooms, he knew the rooms he knew they were blue because it was believed blue was calming. He knew ... but in the end it was nothing, he didn't know where the rooms were who he was suppose to be working for ... nothing. Equations....diagrams, they had no substance when you didn't know what they went to. His mind kept reeling until a flash of the night he burnt the lab came to his mind at that point Rhys shook his head and blinked his eyes quickly a moment.

Looking up to Hawke again he nodded slightly and spoke clearly and somewhat somberly, "yes, I do want the information. About the shadow fiends...about this Athan. I want to know," he stopped there before he got too carried away validating why he wanted to know.

azuredreams
'Athan's bond isn't like yours ... Not as strong..' Hawk lingered in place, once again focusing on the Tektite wisp in Rhys's shadow. His connection with all fiends was partially what was draining him. It was why Hawk bolstered Athan's energy with his own. 'It is merely a source of energy - once bonded to another, they only have a spiritual link to the man. He knows whether they live or not, how they might fair - but not their constant moods and thoughts, not like you ... He does not keep track of that, even though I'm sure he could ...'

His fingers were toying with the piece of quartz around his wrist absently. His thoughts turning inwards. For a moment he wondered: if Wren were to die, would it kill both him AND Athan? The potential was there, he knew it was. 'Athan breathed life back into the soul in the piece of tektite and you give it life anew with the energy you share with it.'

This one's eyes were as distant as Hawk's eyes were most of the time. His thoughts of rooms and numbers. It was odd. Hawk's tail twitched just slightly. 'Athan,' he said slowly, for once luring out the wisp himself with shadows once more, 'releases us because a man who was once his friend sealed us away for one reason or another. To use our power, to punish ...' He shrugged his shoulders. 'To right a wrong he did not commit he lets us out.'

Despite everything, his thoughts were darker than he wanted - but he was not expecting to distract himself.

Cinderfae
Rhys listened thoughtfully, his face growing neutral as he took in the information and considered it. "The bond Athan has with all the shadow fiends is from him releasing them then." Rhys shifted his gaze curiously toward tektite.

Tektite for his part took longer to be lured this time, moving closer to Rhys when his bonded's inner turmoil became apparent to the wisp. For a brief moment there was the curiosity and then more almost as if tektite was attempting to sooth. The feelings were jumbled when they hit Rhys almost as if tektite was analyzing at the same time it was attempting to project emotion. Blinking some Rhys watched Tektite with a bit of confusion as the wisp was lured toward Hawke more.

Rhys frowned some listening to the fiend, "the souls that were trapped, they could be just anyone then..." shifting some the boy turned to look over toward where Tek has moved from him some toward Hawke's shadow manipulation. "...or anything," Rhys mind considered the possibilities a bit before he shrugged. His mind was wondering on what Tek was exactly considering the origin of the stone he was trapped in, "the stones...were they chosen or did they type depend on the soul?"

azuredreams
'We did not choose our prisons, though I'm sure Doran felt there was some sort of irony in trapping us in certain stones.' Someone like Hawk, who was blind, being in a piece of stone known as an all-seeing eye was irony in itself. Not that it was lost on the Seer, but he preferred to ignore it for the most part.

'There is no telling what we are, who we are, not when we are wisps ...' It was odd seeing Hawk play with a wisp, encouraging it to duck and weave in the shadows he had created. There was an oddness about this one that was somewhat interesting.

'But if you want to know - about this piece of Tektite - what he was ...' Blind eyes stared at Rhys, wondering just how deep his curiousity was. 'I can tell you ...' It was not like his usual fare, to offer to answer unspoken questions instead of leaving them unanswered. Still, there was just something that made him curious about this wisp. It was out of the ordinary, unlike the others, save for maybe one ...

Cinderfae
Frowning slightly Rhys watched Teketite and Hawke interact. Of course whoever had trapped them didn't sound like an overly nice person. His gaze went to the wisp thoughtfully...what exactly would one trapped in such a stone end up as.

Rhys looked over toward Hawke, there was something more to this fiend. And he couldn't help but feel a touch of apprehension at the offer. "How would you do that? How would you tell me about Teketite?" Wrinkling his brow slightly he wondered what sort of power fiends actually had over each other, or what power this one had...after all he said in the wisp form such things could not be told.

"But yes...I want to know, I want to know about this... wisp." He shifted almost stubbornly. He'd come for answers after all.

azuredreams
'Some of us are gifted,' he tilted his head just slightly, watching as he weaved paths of darkness for Tektite to work through. 'From the moment we are reborn as wisps - others it takes them time to come into their power.' Lifting his head up, he once again stared straight at Rhys.

'I'm a Seer,' there would have been a grin on his face, had he had lips with which to smile, 'though I do believe that I was called meddler at some point as well ...' His fingers lightly closed around Tektite, bringing it up to his face as if he was looking at it. He had enough True Sight he saw flickers of the stone in his grasp.

'What I See, what I know about this wisp's past and future, I will share with you.' He let the shadows disappear somewhat, revealing Tektite from within them. 'I just need a small favor; if you could pick up an item from me from the market ...'

Cinderfae
Rhys listened closely to the strange fiend, his eyes shifting from time to time to the shadows that the other manipulated attempting to spot Teketite from within them. Once the shadows cleared some Teketite moved up close to Hawke's face bouncing in the air slightly as if studying the other fiend.

Rhys' mouth shifted slightly into a frown. It sounded easy enough...just pick something up from the market, "what sort of something is it that your wanting picked up?" He didn't get why the information about Teketite was being treated in such a way, perhaps there was something more hidden in it...or he considered that Hawke might just need an errand boy for a while.

For a moment the thought that he hadn't checked in with Cinder since he went to feed Sake crossed Rhys mind. She probably hadn't even noticed his absence he decided...he should have plenty of time to do this errand for the shop. It was for the shop after all he decided...or at least that is what he'd tell Cinder if she asked later; made it sound more important...which he hoped meant she'd be less upset - if she had noticed his absence.

After a moment of bobbing and studying Hawk Teke then moved back dropping down and moving closer to Rhys a moment before then dashing back closer to Hawke and vice versa. The wisp had found a bit of shadow that ran between the two to keep him occupied while they spoke.

azuredreams
It was more like Hawk treated the visions he shared, the things he Saw, with a grave certainty. Nothing came without a price; it was a fact of life. He might have smiled at Tektite's behaviour, finding himself somewhat amused at the wisp's curiousity.

'I need,' he said slowly, waggling his fingers at Tektite and making motions as if to trap the wisp - only not doing so, 'a tarot card deck.' It sounded idiotic, he thought, that he was asking for such a thing. After all, he had shredded the last one; considered it foul and tainted.

There was some nostalgia in him that made him want another one. 'The local market should have some, though there are gypsies in town as well - you may want to be wary of going.

'But are you certain that you will do this?' he asked, letting just a bit of unsureness tempt into his voice. 'After all, you'll be rewarded.'

In the end, Hawk might have gone himself - but the gypsies there regarded him warily and did not trust him. He knew, within the market, there was one special deck that he wanted. Getting it, however, was out of his hands as much as he saw.

Cinderfae
At the teasing of being trapped Teke brought out a small burst of speed and circled one of Hawk's fingers before darting back away from the hand and then back around near it again. The acts were playful but also precise as if the wisp were testing himself and the fiend.

Rhys raised a brow, he had only a general idea of what a tarot deck was. And considering his upbringing had never actually encountered one. At the mention of gypsies Rhys wrinkled his brow he hadn't ever really ran into any of those either.

After a few moments he spoke carefully he didn't want to seem ignorant so he decided he better be sure what Hawk wanted. "Well I've never encountered gypsies or...a tarot deck - so um, I'll need to know exactly what your looking for."

With a slight frown he considered the question but then nodded slightly in response, "I'll be going...might as well and, gypsies can't be worse then pirates." At least that was his own reasoning, he'd gotten into a few run ins getting to enough safety to contact his mother - surely gypsies couldn't be worse.

Rhys considered asking why Hawk didn't go himself but decided against it, after all the fiend might have to watch the shop or something.

azuredreams
Hawk started to move his hands to where Tektite was heading in advance, catching him at every opportunity - only to let him go at the last moment.

'A tarot card deck consists of seventy-eight cards. Twenty-two cards in the Greater Arcana, fifty-six cards in the Lesser Arcana. You may ask around with the gypsies, I'm sure one of them will tell you about it. They're used frequently in fortune-telling, among other things ...

'And I do not want any regular deck, not a Rider-Waite deck, but something special. That only the gypsies have ...' It was as much of an explanation he would give in regards to the deck. After all, some of it he had to work out for himself. 'As for the market, I'm sure you will find it if you go far enough from here.'

His fingers closed loosely around Tektite, holding him in place for a moment before letting him go. 'As for just going, before you do - I need you to sign something. Since,' he might grinned devilishly if he could, instead his tail twitched mischievously, 'I am offering you something in return for this, so I need you to sign something for me ...'

Cinderfae
Rhys frowned slightly in consideration, the fiend knew what he wanted but wouldn't tell him what it was specifically. It just seemed...strange - he didn't even know what a rider-waite deck was but kept that in mind, he'd just attempt to stay away from anything that looked too...normal. Normal when he didn't know what it was - Rhys had a feeling this little jaunt to the market might take more time then he was planning on. But now it seemed to late to really back down...and it still just didn't seem like it would be much of a challenge.

"Right a contract..." Rhys wrinkled his brow a bit, this was turning out to be more then just a bit strange. A contract for an errand just seemed overkill. "Alright," frowning thoughtfully he moved over some, just had to be sure to read it. Make sure he filled in his part of the deal...maybe the fiend would write down more specifically the sort of deck he wanted.

Tektite continued with the game of catch and release, with a great deal of curiosity and energy. When Hawk moved off to get the contract he quickly returned to Rhys, finding a place under the boy's wing to stay well within deep shadow.

azuredreams
Oh, Hawk did not have to have one - but it was practice in the most part. Something Reyna had taught him how to do one day when he was bored and at the shop with her. After all, he WAS part demon. If he was going to be doing any sort of business transactions he needed contracts ...

'It's just in case, after all,' he flicked his wrist, turning just slightly as he called forth a rune in the air, 'I'm offering to pay you in return for this.' The contract sizzled into the air into his hand and he turned to hand it to Rhys.

'You will bring me a deck, of your own choosing in the end, but something special. Something you gain from the market for me ...' He tilted his head to the side, tail swishing back and forth slowly. 'And of course, just don't fail ...'

Because there's a price to pay for failure. Owing Hawk a favor instead. He WAS a demon. Then again, it was incredibly fine print at the bottom - if Rhys read it.

Cinderfae
Rhys eyes widened slightly as the contract appeared out of thin air. He had seen similar since arriving, but for now at least it was still surprising to him. Tektite bobbed for a moment out of the deeper shadows in Rhys' wings before drifting back out of sight - there was a distinct feeling of interest from the wisp at the going ons.

If he hadn't been going to read it before the manner in which it appeared insured that Rhys not only read the contract but read it carefully. He frowned a bit noting that the print got smaller near the bottom as if it was hiding. What sort of favor he wondered...then again he didn't plan to not fulfill his end of the bargain. For a moment he stood considering he could hear Clotho's voice like a conscious in his mind, Cinder's going to freak out if something goes wrong. As his mind fell upon his mother quickly the choice was made and Rhys signed the contract. His writing was neat and tidy making it easy to read.

Glancing up to Hawk and laying the pen aside he shifted uncertainly a moment before speaking, "so right...I'll be back then." Market wasn't too far away it shouldn't be hard for him to find it. Stepping back he prepared to head out to find this tarot deck, tektite hidden well in the shadow of his right wing still.

azuredreams
'I'll be here,' Hawk said with a hint of mischief. His tail swished playfully behind him. 'Just be careful to not linger too long after dark in the market ...'

It was mostly advice, partly a warning. He waved his hand again, the contract disappearing into the ether from whence it came. A small hour glass had been sitting where he had been at and he turned it upside-down, watching the grains of sand slowly start to move and fall.

Just how long would Rhys and Tektite take, he wondered.

She'd given him an hour and a half, after that Cinder decided he'd had more then enough time to feed Saki and head back to the house. Taking a bit of time on the ship for himself she could understand, after all it likely was more homey and familiar to him. She'd even let more time run on considering that he might have found something onboard to work on, but after an hour and a half the old space pirate began to worry. Stopping by the shed she confirmed that he'd gotten the rat, unwrapping a hand from the deep blue mug she carried with her the pilot palmed the door to the Warhammer. Thinking that Rhys might be pouting she'd come armed with a mug of coffee, black just how he liked it. Her boots clicked as she stepped into the entryway of the ship, a bit of a frown came to her face the lights that ran along the hall were off which meant it had been sometime since someone had walked past them.

"Mycroft, locate Rhys Rosatu."

"Unable to at this time, Rhys Rosatu has left the ship."

Frowning Cinder paused in the galley to leave the coffee mug on the counter, heading off toward the bridge she noted that the carrier for the rat was left near Saki's feeding room. "How long ago did Rhys leave the ship?" Moving over to the pilot's seat Cinder sat down resting back as she waited for Mycroft to answer.

"One hour, sixteen minutes, and 58 seconds ago."

Rhys didn't really know anyone planetside let alone knew all that much of the area. "Did Rhys leave notice of where he was going? Or do anything other then feed Saki?" As she asked the pirate reached over pulling one of the nearby screens closer to herself, running her finger over the touch screen Cinder brought up the security logs.

"No notice was left, and other then scanning the uncatalogued life form no other actions out of parameters were noted."

"...uncatalogued life form?" Cinder's voice had a touch of worry in it looking to the screen still. After a moment the information from the scan on Tektite popped up. Shaking her head slightly her hand moved over the screen again, "show me when you ran the scan." After a few moments footage from the ship's security logs started running over the screen. She almost didn't pick up the slight bit of movement near Rhys wing as she watched it, "it's not very big...enhance image by two hundred percent." Enhancing the image wasn't as helpful as she'd have liked zooming in the whole thing became even more pixelly and harder to distinguish. With a frustrated sound a few taps later she was watching the same scene from another camera.

"It should be noted that enhancing an image does nothing to improve clarity."

"Yeah, thanks for that...but looking at this it just looks like a bit of sha-" cutting herself off Cinder looked out the side window of the cockpit toward the house. "A bit of shadow." Frowning her mind automatically went to Dio, but the image wasn't Dio and as far as she knew he and Merci were both gone for the day.

"Bring up the outer hull camera footage, was Rhys picked up on anything out there once he left?"

"Affirmative, Rhys Rosatu was picked up on camera three." Cinder turned to look at the footage that appeared on the screen as Mycroft spoke, nodding slightly a small thoughtful frown came to her face - he had headed toward town.

"Right...nothing to do now but wait," standing Cinder stood for a long moment looking over the bridge but she didn't focus on anything in particular. She knew she needed to wait, let him have some space talk to him later but part of her mind kept nagging at her. Rolling her shoulders and grumbling Cinder moved out to the hall and headed out of the ship. If he wasn't back by tonight she'd go looking...

..Through the Market: Off the Map..

User Image
Setting his eyes on the horizon Rhys set out toward the market, he'd gotten an early start so it hadn't even touched on noon yet. As he moved from the shade of the shops he winced, as he had told tektite earlier it really was going to be a sunny day. Being use to the indoors didn't help his eyes in the sun luckily Cinder had kept that in mind and one of the first things they got him when he reached planetside were a nice pair of sunglasses. Fishing the glasses out of his jacket Rhys was glad he remembered to bring them, the sun also helped him keep Tektite in mind rising his wings up he found a comfortable position to keep them up while he walked. Last time he'd been at the market had been with his mother and Clotho and they had driven him...at the time he didn't even know about the gypsies.

Starting through the market Rhys could see why Hawk had told him about the gypsies as well, most the items were obviously cheaply made. Bypassing various baubles and novelties he picked up the scent of a nearby food stand, with his stomach grumbling he decided he might as well dare some of the market food. Pausing at one of the food stalls Rhys bought what they claimed was chicken on a stick, taking a tentative bite he searched over the nearby area picking up sight of the gypsies over a small river. The river seemed to work as a boundary from the more normal market and the gypsies. Starting over it Rhys frowned very slightly pausing to look back the way he'd come and then ahead, it was different passing over the river it even felt different to him - though he couldn't place what it was exactly.

Shaking the faint sense of unease he wandered the rest of the way over the bridge, the market setting was still strong here but the items for sale had drastically changed. Now more handmade items were laid out, the vendors actively called out to those passing by taking interest and haggling to make sales. Pausing a moment he glanced around at the stalls before starting through the new market area, his attention was quickly drawn to a small tent to the side, an elderly woman was settled into a rocking chair sitting back from a series of card tables that held her wares. Among the wares Rhys picked up sight of what he was pretty sure was a tarot deck. Now he still wasn't overly familiar with them but from the description he was given earlier it seemed to be right, leaning over he took in the deck's appearance. The deck was decorated with a variety of dragons, interesting enough, but the packaging suggested it had come from some large printing company, meaning at least to Rhys that this deck was not the sort that Hawk would want especially since it was obviously not very unique.

While Rhys looked over the deck the elderly woman that seemed to be in charge of the little booth pulled herself up from her rocker and hobbled over to him. "Salutations young one, what is it you are seeking?" Lifting an eyebrow she looked up to Rhys, the woman's expression was pleasant but her eyes betrayed a deep thoughtfulness.

Shifting uncomfortably a moment under the old woman's gaze Rhys cleared his throat before speaking, "uhm a tarot deck."

"Really?" There was a touch of curiosity in her voice, "have you seen anything that speaks to you?" Glancing down at her wares she answered her own question before Rhys could speak, "no...but this deck - it isn't for you is it?"

Blinking Rhys paused taking more notice of the old woman, his next thought was that at least it was daylight still. "Uhm...no for a -" well he wouldn't really call Hawk a friend, after all he just met him. "acquaintance. I don't really know much about tarot decks."

"Acquaintance...well this acquaintance must see something special in you. Tarot decks speak to their owners, when you find the right deck for yourself you will know it. But to have someone else chose your deck..." she tapped her lip slightly in thought a slight frown on her face, turning to the side she started digging through a box, "I think I have something here that might interest you - not a deck but a book. It will tell you...basic things about tarot cards. Perhaps give you more of an idea of what your looking at," without waiting for a response the woman moved over to a small chest set back from the tables near her chair. Turning so that she obstructed Rhys view of the chest the old woman opened it and started digging around within. "Ah here it is...not very mystical in appearance but, it has what you'll need." Hobbling over toward the table she laid a worn book with the picture of a deck of cards on the front.

Looking a bit skeptical Rhys reached forward and opened the book, it appeared to be a beginners book to tarot cards and reading. "I wasn't planning to really using the cards just picking them up..."

With a quick shake of her head the old woman reached out "a skeptical, let me see your hand, boy." It was more of a command rather then question.

His wing flickered in unease but Rhys offered his hand over to the gypsy woman, the old woman took his hand and started looking over the palm thoughtfully. Her fingers traced lightly over the lines, "hm, a dangerous journey but one meant for you. You should take a walking stick as well." Not bothering for a word from Rhys once again the old woman went over to her wares and started shifting through them, taking what appeared to be a well made walking stick from a basket to the side. The stick looked to be just the right height for Rhys, with various symbols and decorations carved into it, a makeshift handle of dark leather was wrapped near the top.

With a frown Rhys pulled his hand back, his wings flickering again. At the threat that his shade might move away Tektite found a spot closer to Rhys to stay. "Dangerous..." his mind went over what he was suppose to be doing again - go to the market and get a tarot deck - it should have been easy enough but the talk of danger along with the palm reading was making him decidedly nervous. "...right well I'm looking for something special, know of anything?" Attempting to put the old woman's warning aside and ignore it he moved the conversation on, after all he had to get those cards. Sighing gently his eyes flickered over to the walking stick, gods know that Cinder always saw he had more then enough credits - so if the old woman wanted to get him to buy things to give him the information he decided he might as well oblige her. Digging around in his pocket he took out his wallet, looking over the items she brought up he pulled out a bill that should cover it all.

"You will find what you seek...but not as you expect," as she speaks the old gypsy takes a small vial from one of the tables, pouring a few drops of liquid from the vial onto her hand she flickers it on Rhys speaking quickly in a language unrecognizable to him.

Starting in surprise Rhys frowned stepping back, "what are you doing?"

"It's more what have I done, just a bit of luck. Your going to need it..." turning slightly she gestures further into the various gypsy tents, "your path lies that way." Turning back toward her chair she calmly hobbles over obviously giving Rhys a signal that they were done.

Standing uncertainly a moment finally he finds his voice, "...thanks." He did wonder if he should be thanking the woman for shoving items off on him to buy and randomly flickering what he hoped was water all over him. Wrinkling his brow and looking more then a little confused he picked up the book and walking stick, only after he had looked over a few more stalls did he realize he never got the change for the items. Sighing to himself he could feel a headache starting in the very center of his forehead, wishing he had another coffee Rhys paused realizing that he had somehow found himself at a dead end. The dead end wasn't completely empty, a dark stall had been moved against the side of the concrete wall using the corner, to make it sturdier.

He almost just turned around to find the more heavily populated areas with stalls but something caught his eye in the stall. As with the first tent he stopped at it was a dragon that drew his attention. An amulet hung as one of the center pieced items on the edge of the display, moving toward it Rhys gave it careful scrutiny up close he realized that the amulet was much less well made in appearance then it had appeared to be from further away and the stone in it was most likely a fake, considering he'd just come from Twilight Designs it likely would have taken something much more then a bit of costume jewelry to really entice him. He was still looking the amulet over when a bit of a mental tugging from Tektite caught his attention. The owner or at least he presumed it was the owner since the man was in the stall had turned his attention to the boy.

"Greetings young one. Finding something you like?" Stepping out from the back of the stall was a tall man, wearing dark reds and blacks he had blended into the interior until he moved forward.

Starting slightly once he realized someone was closer then he realized Rhys forced what he hoped was a passably polite smile, "just looking..." glancing down at the necklace and remembering the old woman before he hurriedly added, "window shopping I really just need to pick something up for someone."

The man raised his brow setting his rather hawkish face in a comical expression, "what sort of something? I have a bit of everything for any occasion."

Rhys gaze shifted down to the dragon amulet, the amulet wasn't anything more the costume jewelry he doubted that the man would have anything he could take back to Hawk, "um, a deck of tarot cards." He hoped that his voice didn't betray too badly his skepticism toward the man.

"Hm, well if you were looking for some I ching coins or possibly a scrying mirror - I just got in some lovely ones with silver backing," stepping back the man looked over his wares.

Afraid that he'd attempt to place the items that he should be buying out and expect him to take them like the old woman Rhys took a quick step back in alarm.

Glancing over the man looked to Rhys, "don't worry, Lawrence won't be steering you wrong. I wish I could help you...but the only tarot deck I have is exceptionally rare." There was a slight change in the tone of the man's voice as he spoke of the deck.

Frowning faintly Rhys paused, a bit of unease hit him but talk of the deck drew his attention back. He'd been through several of the stalls and tents out today and hadn't come across anything that looked acceptable for the contract he had with Hawk, "rare is what I'm looking for though." Speaking hurriedly he stepped up almost afraid the man would send him away if he wasn't fast enough.

Chuckling slightly a sly smile came over Lawrence's face, "it usually is...but you see there is a problem with the deck."

"Problem? What sort of problem?" A few fluttering feelings came to Rhys from Tektite the wisp was in unease over the whole thing and wanted to go, but Rhys wasn't budging especially if he had a good lead on what he'd need.

"Well this deck has more then a bit of magic poured into it. Originally created by a magus that also had more then a passable hand at art, he made the cards so they'd shift and change for readings. Tarot cards usually have several meanings, but these cards are able to give the reader a better idea of the direction they are going in, hm a living tarot deck if you will."

Rhys' eyes widened slightly, he didn't really know anything about the cards and hadn't taken time to look over the book the old woman sold to him but these sounded like something that Hawk would want. "So...what's the problem? Are you not selling them or something?" Giving the man a suspicious look he really hoped it wasn't the case, mentioning such a thing knowing he was looking to buy just wouldn't have set well.

"Oh - I could sell them for the right price and to the right person. But..." stepping back Lawrence's reached over and picked up a black cloth wrapped around something bulky, "you see...the cards have all fled."

Rhys gave him a blank stare for a moment wondering if the man was teasing him or joking, when Lawrence appeared to be serious he continued to stare a moment before speaking, "... how do cards flee exactly?" This whole thing was making him feel more and more lost, as if he was in the middle of a field and the grass was all grown so high that it was over his head and he couldn't see what lay in each direction.

"Well these cards as I said before have quite a bit of magic tucked away in them," as he spoke Lawrence started to unwrap the cloth from what appeared to be a large chunk of black rock. "I left them too close to a bit of work I was doing on this...and the crystal turned black, the images from the cards disappeared and as far as I can tell they are within."

Frowning Rhys watched the man skeptically after all he'd seen black rocks before and the story was sounding just a tad more unbelievable as the man went on. "So the rock was a different color before the cards ... disappeared?"

"Oh yes, this is a chunk of kunzite - it was actually a light purple before." Setting the darkened rock down on the counter in front of Rhys the man leaned over and took a box hidden below the counter top. "The cards..." opening the wooden box he picked up a few cards one had the image of a young man with a puppet as a hand walking down a road, a small black dog nipped at his heels; the other cards in his hand were blank except for roman numerals at the bottom. As Rhys watched the image on the card an image of the young man appeared in the background he appeared to be reaching out toward a fire as if he was about to burn himself.

"...so how do you get the cards out of the crystal?"
Wrinkling his brow Rhys looked up at the man attempting to suspend his disbelief some as he asked.

"Ah, well that would not be any easy task. You'd have to go in and get them, the Fool." Pausing he gestured to the card of the man with a puppet for a hand, "would be your guide...but there is no telling what is within."

Rhys eyed the stone and then the cards and then back to the man, "so...er how do you get into a crystal?"

A slight grin came to Lawrence's face, "well something's when apart more readily will flow to that which they are suppose to be with. The cards are the same. Think your up for such a task? If you could gather them, the deck most assuredly would be yours."

Shifting uneasily Rhys looked to the Fool card, having a fool as a guide and how that trip may go wasn't lost to Rhys but he really needed the deck he decided; plus part of him just really wanted to know if the gypsy could actually transport him to some other place within a crystal. "...I'll give it a go."

Without waiting for more to be said Lawrence reached forward and put Rhys hand down on the box and then his other hand down to the crystal, Rhys started to pull his hands back but was hit with a feeling of vertigo. The world seemed to blur and change, strange words in a language he didn't understand came to his mind - twice in one day, he thought, wonderful.

As the world blurred it started to spin and then there was blackness, gasping Rhys found himself laying on his back. For a long moment he stayed on his back feeling as if he dared to move that he'd be sick, reaching over he felt the walking stick and could also feel that his bag had made it as well. A bit of panic hit him as he opened his eyes, overhead the sun beat down brightly - a strange sun that appeared to have a face within the flames. He didn't dwell on the sun's face for the moment but rather worry over Tektite, a bit of flittering at the edge of his mind brought a sigh from him. Tektite was hiding within the inner fold of his right wing, holding his head Rhys started to pull himself up to get a look at where he had fallen.

Using the stick to pull himself up Rhys blinked against the brightness of the sun his eyes widening slightly as he looked over a valley that opened up at his feet. Hills rolled through it, there appeared to be buildings in the distance and there was even a labyrinth made from dark stones settled in the very middle.

"...by the stars."

..Following the Fool..

Rhys sat for several long moments just staring at the strange landscape ahead of him, glancing over toward his wing he could feel the startlement from tektite as well. "Alright...listen, we'll figure this out. I mean...there..." glancing down Rhys eyes fell to the box holding the cards. Setting it down next to him on the ground he turned and resting his hand on the top of it, frowning some he just stared.

The fool will be your guide.

That's what the man had said...he just wasn't sure how the Fool would guide him, but he had a feeling he was going to have to let it out of the box if he was going to have any sort of guide. Part of his brain nagged a bit, because really he had no idea what he was suppose to do to get this guide or if it would work, but things as of late had been becoming more and more insane. Sighing finally Rhys just opened the box, inside were still the various empty cards from the shop and the one card from the Major Arcana that was still intact.

"The Fool..." murmuring softly he picked the card up, turning it over in his hand. After only a few moments a ripple of power went through the card, startled Rhys dropped the card and stood up moving back away from it as quickly as he could. Beams of bright light started coming from the card in a variety of vibrant colors, wincing some as the lights increased Rhys took a few more steps back mindful of his shadowy charge who was letting off feelings of panic as the sudden disruption of light. The lights continued to appear until there was a circle of them coming from the card; a high keening noise filled the air and then from within the lights a hand appeared as if climbing from the card outward.

"Sh-" Rhys cut the curse off as a slender man dressed in dark blue and fushcia jester clothing appeared. One hand as in the image was a puppet the puppet was dressed in clothing just as the man was in. Stretching a bit the slender man looked around the area before glancing back at the lights coming from the card, "Oh! Pogo!" Stepping over the Fool leaned down and picked a small black dog up out of the lights as he stepped back the lights flickered once and went out leaving the card empty as all the others were.

Blinking a few times Rhys sat unsure how to continue before finally clearing his throat and stepping forward, "um, Hello."

"Hello, hello there..." the Fool paused with a look of confusion glancing over the area, "though I am wondering very much why I am here."

Finally finding his legs to move forward Rhys moved over toward the card as he spoke, "well some guy trapped me...er now us in a crystal. Suppose to be capturing some tarot cards..."

The Fool's brow lifted as if in surprise, "well now, that sounds like quite the journey. Luckily I know just what we need!" Turning the brightly dressed young man gestured ahead at the path, "we need a road to start down. And that is what happens to be here." Nodding to himself in a thoughtful manner he stood looking quite proud. Rhys watched the Fool a moment before sighing moving forward he picked the card up, flipping it over in his hand thoughtfully.

"Hey watch where you point that thing!" Blinking in surprise at the new voice Rhys glanced down spotting the black dog that the Fool had taken from the card last. Wrinkling his brow a moment he waited wondering if he was correct and the dog was talking...or if he'd just been jumbled up too much lately. "I said watch where you are pointing that! You'll end up sending us back, and let me tell you that whole experience is unpleasant each time it happens." This time he'd been looking at the dog when it spoke, looking more then a little startled Rhys obediently dropped the card to his side.

"...so I just have to point the card and uhm...it will take back in what is suppose to be on it?" His voice start and stopped hesitantly as he realized he was talking to a dog of all things.

"Something like that," Pogo sighed mortals could be so tiresome. Grumbling Rhys moved over to the path that the Fool was now standing in front of, bouncing from one foot to the other a soft jingle from the Fool's hat filled the area and was already starting to grate heavily on Rhys' nerves.

"I need to find the rest of you..." Rhys paused looking to the Fool, the Fool jerked around causing the various bells to chime with a thoughtful look upon his face, then tilting his head and paused and started whispering to the puppet on his hand.

Sighing Rhys gave the Fool a flat stare before starting down the path.

"Ah excellent! This is exactly what we need - after all your journey won't begin until you begin it!"

"Your not a very good guide,"
Rhys response had a bit of a pout in it. Hurrying along to catch up with the boy the Fool seemed to consider a moment, "well I don't believe I would be, but your not a very good listener. I did try to warn you after all." The words were nonchalant but under it there was a touch of seriousness. "Warn me?" Rhys voice trailed off some his head tilted some to keep an eye on the Fool.

"Yes, warn. But that is behind and done with - now we have this!"
Running over to a small wall running along the path the Fool jumped up on it and spread his arms to gestured ahead of them. "We should head there, where the buildings are..." looking back to Rhys he grinned looking pleased with himself.

Rubbing his brow Rhys continued on, glancing over to Tektite, he considered asking more about the whole warning thing but... really with the Fool and a bit of pain nagging at him from the center of his head he just wasn't up for it. Picking up on his guardian's stress Tektite fluttered up to rest against the curve of Rhys' wing. Smiling slightly Rhys glanced to the wisp before looking over the area. "So the buildings I figured...do you know anything about them?"

"Well I've never actually been over to them but I have a feeling that it should be wonderful!" Gesturing widely with his arms the Fool looked over to Rhys. The two were moving up a hillside but suddenly the hill disappeared and there was only a cliff, as Rhys glanced over away from the Fool his eyes widened, "Stop!"

The Fool didn't hear Rhys quickly enough and ended up teetering on the edge of the wall, eyes wide in a bit of a panic Rhys ran over toward him. The Fool started tumbling over the edge with Rhys still just out of range to reach him and then a dark figure of Pogo appeared behind the Fool grabbing onto the back of his shirt. With the Fool's shirt clenched in his jaws the dog worked as a weight giving enough time for Rhys to grab onto both of them and yank them back to safety. The group took a few moments to just sit and catch their breaths before Rhys climbed over to look at the drop.

"...the road, wall...it just disappears. Looks like a sheer cliff here." Shifting his gaze to the right and then the left he motioned over to the left. "Which way to go is the question..."

"Here!" Jumping up and down the bells on the Fool's clothing jingled as he pointed to the left, "there is a light...and it's downhill."

"Well...downhill," sighing and feeling as if he really hadn't gotten much of anywhere Rhys nodded to the Fool before descending further into the lands.

Making their way down the slope Rhys kept his eyes trained on the light below them, nearing the bottom of the hill the sound of water came to his ears. "Not much further now, it's getting brighter." The group stumbled the last few feet, finding themselves on the bank of a river. "Over this way!" The Fool without second thought or look hurriedly stepped over series of stones in the water crossing to the other bank. Once across the Fool was hit fully by the light that seemed to be coming from below him, down a small slope not far.

"Careful here," glancing over to Tektite he waited for the little wisp to move out of the way more hiding down deeper into the shadows of his wing. Deciding that Tektite was indeed hidden well enough, that the light from the next bank wouldn't hit him Rhys made his way more carefully then his predecessor over to the other side of the river. With a fair amount of wobbling he found his footing on solid ground glancing down he saw that the river split off making a small pool down the hill. Sitting on the edge of the pool was the cause of the bright light. A young attractive and Rhys realized very naked young woman sat soaking her feet, flushing some he attempted to concentrate on the other details, ones that didn't have to do primarily with her breasts...

After clearing his throat subconsciously Rhys smiled some, the woman was rather lovely and appeared to even have actual stars in her hair. "Hullo there..." blinking slightly he felt as if the greeting might be a bit too simple for such a creature. She looked curiously to the new arrivals, "Greetings, have you come seeking the wise men?" Standing for a moment in some confusion Rhys glanced over to the Fool only to be met with a shrug, "wise men?"

"Yes the three, they are together...they meet."

She was obviously one of the cards he was after, and these three are likely cards as well, quite the turn of events Rhys decided. "Nearby? In what direction?"

Leaning back the maiden stretched causing Rhys to forget a moment what he had just asked, taking a look down to hide his blush he peered up after a moment to look toward where she gestured. Now that she had pointed it out he could see a hill in the distances and forms as well. Clearing his throat he looked to her again she was one of the cards so that mean he needed to put her back, snapping his attention back he pulled the box out from his pack, "um, thanks...and I think I can help - your a little lost." Taking a card from the top of the box he held it up attempting to frame the woman ... nothing happened. Frowning Rhys shook the card a little and turned it over looking befuddled. Shifting his gaze over to the Fool he frowned even more, "it's not working."

But instead of the Fool speaking the maiden did, "I'm not lost, perhaps scattered. If your attempting to send something somewhere you must first be sure that's where it belongs." For a moment Rhys stared at the blank card, his eyes finally settling on the number on the bottom. "Ah...the right card." Whoever she was she seemed to be docile enough so Rhys pulled his legs under him and opened the book flipping through the pages. Luckily there was a two page layout of the major arcana, after only a few moments of searching his eyes settled on a naked female figure, the one displayed was not nearly as lovely as the one in front of him but the intent of the card seemed to illustrate her.

"The Star," glancing up he looked to her and as he said her name she seemed to glow ever so slightly brighter, seventeen was on the bottom of the card in the book. Frowning Rhys searched through the blank cards finally finding the one with the roman numeral for seventeen on the bottom. "Uhm, nice meeting you miss..." holding up the card this time something happened, there wasn't a bright flash but considering the light of the Star things got darker as she was pulled into the card in a swirl of bright colors. Turning the card over Rhys looked down to see the lovely form now trapped in the card, staring in shock for a few moments he placed the card away in the box and sucked a breath in. "One down...lets go find those three wise men."

Heading off in the direction of the hill and figures glancing up Rhys noted the sun setting and a moon rising, the Moon had a face veiled and looking down on the small group as they moved onward. The hill was further then Rhys at first believed but as he closed in the three figures of the 'wise men' came more into view. The three were men more or less, one sat as if weakened upon the side of the hill, his overall appearance was more ambiguous when it came to his gender but picking up on the voice the man did sound male.

"We arrived because communication has been cut off," a tall well dressed man addressed another man wearing shabby robes and sporting a gnarled walking stick. "I prefer to be left alone, not disturbed but first there were the interlopers, now you, and now more interlopers!" Looking less then pleased the shabbily clothed man gestures toward Rhys and those he traveled with.

"Not interlopers...well maybe. But I'm here to help,"
holding his hands up Rhys approached the three attempting to appear none threatening.

The voice of the man in traditional clothing was strong and commanding, "And how is it you bring this aid?"

"I can return you to...er well where you were before here."

"Before here...and what is before here are you with the betrayer, what stakes do you have in this game," the tall man stalked toward Rhys causing the boy to back up as he got closer, the man's footsteps were quick and when the man closed in moonlight danced over Heriophant's face and his features shifted to that of someone Rhys once knew and he dropped the box of cards in startlement. The man in stately traditional dress for that moment had the face of the head of Fellware industries the company responsible for Rhys' creation. The face at first looked normal the strict frightening visage he remembered from his youth but then the skin shriveled some and appeared as if it had been decaying. Letting out a startled and now panicked cry Rhys glanced from one side to the next attempting to throw off the seemingly crazed man. A card pressed in his hand drew Rhys attention, the Fool was hastily retreating but the card remained, on nothing more then hope that the Fool had given him the right card Rhys held the card up as the Heriophant latched onto his arm. There was once again the swirling of color and the man disappeared, gasping a breath in Rhys' gaze quickly went to the other two wise men left fearful of another attack. The remaining two appeared docile enough or at least too shocked to do anything aggressive for the moment. Hurriedly moving over Rhys flipped open the book after a few moments he was pretty sure the more ambiguous of the two was the Magician and the other was the Hermit.

Shuffling through the cards Rhys found the numbers for each, first he sent back the Magician nodding in satisfaction when it worked again. Pausing he met the gaze of the Hermit, "is this how it is to be? Gathered up like some bauble for trade."

Shifting some Rhys considered and hoped he could at least sound reassuring, "I'm sending you back to where you should be...there you'll not have to worry about interlopers."

The Hermit watched Rhys for a moment before snorting, "your lost - don't attempt to pacify me with your faux wisdom." Planting his staff in the ground he then stared directly at Rhys his eyes focused into some sort of unspoken challenge. Sighing Rhys took the Hermit's card and pulled him in to be put away with the rest. "Lets find those others he spoke up...since we don't see them here I'm guessing they are in that clump of trees ahead to the right."

Without another word he started off, for sometime they walked in a strained silence before the Fool spoke up, "what did you see...on the Heriophant's face?"

Rhys had been carefully keeping his expression neutral but at the question it ceased into a frown, "corruption..." they had just reached the outcropping of trees and he brought his finger to his lips to silence the Fool, a voice could be heard nearby he didn't want to alert whatever it may be; and truthfully he didn't want to answer more questions. Finding a few large rocks piled up Rhys scrambled up them as quietly as he could, settling in on top he caught the sight of Tektite bobbing curiously just along his sight of view, below in an opening sat two young people, both nude. A young man speaking what sounded like it might be poetry off to a young woman. "The Lovers," Rhys murmured to himself the two below were easy enough to pick out from the other cards. Taking a moment to take reference from the book he searched through the deck until he came across the blank card with the roman numeral for six on it. Looking a bit weary and serious Rhys hopped down and moved into the clearing, he didn't even wait for the surprised lovers to speak he just held the card up and pulled them in a grim look coming over his features.

"Another down..." sighing he glanced over the area and then to the Fool. The Fool watched him sadly a moment before looking away, grumbling a bit to himself Rhys turned away from the Fool as well, "keep a watch. I need to make a list so I don't have to look through this book every time I need to find a card." Moving over to the log that the Lovers had been occupying only a moment before Rhys took a notepad from his bag and a pen, opening the book he started to make a list from zero to twenty one. Beside each number he listed the card it was associated with. It didn't really take him long to finish the list as he looked up the moon was setting and on the horizon was the sunrise. Glancing down at the page and then back up Rhys opened the box and searched through it. The Fool moved over curiously watching as Rhys pulled a card out and pointed it to the newly risen sun - a bright flash blinded the two and sent Tektite moving for cover deep within the wedge between Rhys back and wing.

Groaning Rhys could feel a headache setting in as he blinked out the spots of light in his eyes. Glancing to the sky he found the Sun gone and the Moon in it's place. "Ow..." shifting his gaze down to the card in his hand he tucked it away after a moment, "I'll leave the Moon there we will need some light."

"Brilliant terribly so," the Fool's dog Pogo regarded Rhys with a bit of disdain, "you could have warned a fella, and now you get to finish your quest with the Moon in power...brilliant." The dog's tone was bitter and biting as it trotted off to the edge of the trees, wincing a bit the Fool shrugged in Rhys direction. Tektite however seemed pleased with the change, dashing back and forth within Rhys' shadow, "well at least someone is happy." Rhys voice caught slightly as he shifted his gaze to the moon remembering how the light had changed the face of the Heirophant.

Rhys moved back the way they had come and started to follow the stream, the stream was leading to buildings further off in the distance. Time seemed to go on forever, with the sun gone and the moon's face shining down on them their treks length grew with no real knowledge of how long they had been going or would continue. They eventually came upon a road, turning their steps back onto the road they found themselves nearing the city. Ahead the bulky outline of something in the road was seen against the horizon. Rhys slowed his pace, and raised his hand for the Fool to do the same, "lets be careful no telling who or what that might be ahead."

Moving closer Rhys saw that the hulk was actually a chariot of some sort thrown over on it's side, a man in knightly armor was next to a nearby cliff tying off the reigns of four horses. The horses themselves caused Rhys to pause and stare a moment, the first was formed of fire, the next of earth, the third appeared made from bits of cloud continuously swirling, and the last water made to hold form. Seeing Rhys and the Fool walking up the Knight turned and raised his hand in greeting, "hail travelers."

The knight seemed to be friendly enough, Rhys smiled and raised his hand as well. "Greetings to you as well," his mind started to shuffle between what he knew of the cards, once they were more in sight it became more apparently why the chariot was pushed over on it's side on of the wheels had come mostly off. "Looks like you had a bit of trouble here," frowning some as he looked over the broken wheel his mind finally snapped onto which card he was looking at - The Chariot, the horses and knight where all part of that. "So where are you heading?" Shifting some to look over at the knight Rhys opened the box, taking a look at his list he began to dig for the correct card while still speaking.

"Ah, I was just traveling to greater things..." pausing the knight looked confused a moment.

"But you aren't sure where that actually is?" Finding the card he searched for Rhys closed the box and laid it on the ground at his feet. Pogo eyed the boy critically the little black dog murmured loud enough that Rhys could hear, "he looks well armed do try to not get us killed."

The knight shook his head looking dazed again, "the moonlight, it clouds things..." for a moment the Knight's gaze drifts but he snaps his gaze back to Rhys after a few moments, "and you sir, where do you walk at such an hour."

Rhys for a moment considered pointing out that time was moving strangely and the sun was gone altogether but the knight seemed more then a little befuddled in general, deciding that adding to it wouldn't help much Rhys started searching through the box after taking a look at his page. The Chariot, at least from the set up that is what he was guessing that it was. "Just ahead right now...trying to find a few things that are missing..." Rhys drew up the blank card on the knight and chariot and ... nothing happened. Frowning he paused and flipped over the card looking at it and then ahead, "what happened?" Rhys shifted his gaze over to the side only to find the Fool had wandered over to the horses and now was in danger of getting kicked, the Knight didn't seem to really be paying him much mind. Pogo was still nearby and spoke up shifting his gaze to the boy, "it's not complete, so it can't go back into the card."

Pausing a moment Rhys stared at the Chariot and then the small black dog, "so I have to help him fix the chariot...are you messing with me?"

Pogo kept his gaze steady but his voice held a touch of sarcasm, "would I do that?"

"Your an imaginary talking dog, you have a bad temperament, and I'm in a Lewis Carroll nightmare..." Rhys stared at the little black dog a moment before muttering, "by the stars." Dropping his bag on the ground he moved over near the Chariot. The knight stepped back watching Rhys warily, "you are going to aid me?" The knight seemed unsure about Rhys though the talking dog didn't seem to phase him.

"Yes, and once your Chariot is fixed I should be able to help you finish your journey," frowning for a moment longer the Knight finally nodded and moved forward, "I have what is needed to replace the wheel, it will just take a bit of muscle." Nodding Rhys got to work helping the Knight with the Chariot.

While it's guardian was distracted Tek floated over toward where the Fool was attempting to study the four horses; the wisp flittered closer waiting for the Fool to move in close, once the young man was settled in more closely with the horses the little wisp zoomed over at them. Floating up closer Tektite let loose a small wave of power, although no having much at the moment it was enough for the horses to sense something was wrong. Startled the horse made of cloud bits jerked and kicked back at the Fool although appearing soft and fluffy the hoof hit solidly enough and threw the youth through the air.

Jerking back Rhys' eyes widened and he rushed over toward where the Fool landed while Tektite flittered in the air his wispy form fluttering in what could be considered an amused fashion. Rhys paused and just stared as he looked down where the Fool had landed. Pushing himself up the Fool rolled his shoulders, "my that was a nasty one, but I am well." Holding up the hand that was a sock puppet the mouth of the puppet moved as he spoke a second time, "I am well also, thank you for the concern." Frowning Rhys moved back, "...cards right...ideas." Frowning the boy shook his head moving back to the chariot grumbling, "luckily your head doesn't get cracked open like a normal persons would." Picking his coat up Rhys turned back to look at the Chariot he and the knight had been working on, it was whole again, the knight went about putting the horses back onto the front, Rhys moved back and motioned to the others to get out of the way - he didn't know if others could get trapped within the cards but didn't want to chance it, a few moments later the Chariot was placed back where it belonged.

"Alright the city isn't too much further lets keeps moving," motioning to the Fool and Pogo, Rhys shifted his wing and waited for Tektite to move back more closely to him before continuing on. Moving on toward the walls of the city the path went through a small wooded area that gathered around the gates. Subconsciously Rhys' wings moved closer to his body tightening as the constant state of night caused the trees to cast strange shadows over their path. Frowning Rhys stopped in his tracks shifting his gaze as he catches sight of movement to his right, holding his hand out he motioned for the Fool and Pogo to stop, "we aren't alone," speaking softly Rhys stepped cautiously forward attempting to find whatever had moved within the tree line. Only a few feet from the trees Rhys had leaned down when he picked up a deep growling, freezing in place his eyes widening and he fell back on his butt as a large feline stalked forward from within the trees. The beast moved to the side starting to circle keeping the small group in view as it did.

As the cat started to move in Rhys got enough control of himself to back pedal away on all fours in a crab walk away from the creature a small part of his mind was screaming making it hard to concentrate - he was going to get eaten by a giant cat. Tektite darted forward toward the beast hovering in the air, even though he was just a wisp Rhys got the distinct impression he was attempting to challenge the creature. Rhys continued to back pedal and sent out a thought to Tektite attempting to get the fiend to retreat, he wasn't sure if lion could kill Tektite but he didn't want to take any chances. Before things escalated further the sound of someone else arriving was heard as the nearby trees rustled; Rhys chanced a look over hoping that it wasn't another large feline coming to try and eat him. Instead of a large cat a naked woman stalked from the trees her long blonde hair cascaded down her back as she moved toward the lion, in other circumstances Rhys might have been left staring at the woman but today he just continued to crawl back and away from the cat.

The woman moved between the cat and the others her gaze dropping down to it, as she met it's gaze the beast ceased it's growling and lowered it's head. There was a long pause of more staring before Rhys brain kicked in with where he'd seen this before - it was one of the cards. Tearing his gaze away Rhys opened the box and hurriedly checked his list before searching out the Strength card. The naked woman had reached forward and was now petting the lion as if it were some overgrown house cat; not really caring for the situation to get worse and not sure what he'd say to either of the creatures anyway, Rhys held the card up and in a flash the woman and lion were back within their card.

Letting out a sigh of relief Rhys fell backward and laid on the ground staring up at the sky, "...I swear I almost wet myself."

Shuffling his feet some the Fool looked sheepish as he replied, "ah well I did."

Manic laughter bubbled up from within himself hearing the fool after the close call it sounded like the most amusing thing he'd heard in a long while. Gaining control of his laughter Rhys glanced over to the disgruntled Fool, "get cleaned up and hurry we are almost there...." giving the Fool time to clean up Rhys laid on the ground taking a few moments to gather himself, they'd captured quite a few of the cards but there were several still free he wanted to keep his strength up for the hunt.

..Through the City..

The outer gates of the city were sitting open as they approached within silhouettes could be seen of people, "there's no sound. It looks like there are people ahead but there is no sound...and I don't think they are moving." Rhys spoke softly to The Fool and Pogo his steps continuing. Pausing at the gate they saw that the figures were spread throughout the courtyard, images of people in various acts portrayed in cold marble. The image of a little girl running was frozen in place, a man crying, a woman wounded laying on the ground, and many more. Further in a few depictions of more intimate moments were seen, Rhys flushed slightly and continued on deciding not to tarry too long. They all seemed so real as if they once were real people it seemed wrong to sit and stare no matter what the statues had been captured doing, "so...do you think these were real people? The city is awful quiet..." Rhys frowned realizing he was repeating himself. As the boy's gaze shifted to the side quick movement caught his site, one of the statues had shifted it's position, "um, did you guys see that?"

"See what?" Pausing the Fool looked around as if attempting to capture sight of what Rhys was asking about. "Don't stop too long, the statues are moving," Pogo grumbled up to The Fool and Rhys as he walked along.

Instead of continuing on upon hearing the information The Fool stopped near the statue closest to him, it was of a young woman with her eyes tilted skyward, reaching out the Fool prodded lightly at her face. Rhys continued on the unsettling presence of the statues and silence helping speed his steps toward a set of stairs in the distance.

A flutter of movement from steps ahead continues to draw Rhys onward, at the same time the hand of the statue the Fool is left prodding darts out and grasps around his wrist. The two cry out at the same time.

"I think there's -"

"It's got me!"

Frowning Rhys spins to look back the way he had come, the voice of The Fool bounced off of the walls and statues heard clearly but seemingly coming from many directions at once. Eyes narrowed with worry Rhys hurried back along the path they had taken to reach view of the steps.

"You can't tell me you didn't just know something like this was going to happen," Pogo's un amused voice followed along behind Rhys as the black dog's steps quickened as if sensing the urgency.

Moving between statues of an elderly woman walking a dog and a man crying the Fool struggled with his stone captor. "Stop screaming," Rhys moved toward the Fool making sure to give the statues nearby a wide berth.

"But she moved -" the Fool's voice was panicked, flailing some he fell back and ended up dangling by his captured arm.

"I gathered that from...your arm." Frowning Rhys turned looking toward the statue, Tektite took the opportunity to move from the shadow of Rhys' wing and along the stone arm the wisp bounced and moved in the air curiously over the stone surface.

"Right well I don't know how to move the arm...but since the statues do appear to be moving from time to time. If we're lucky she'll move again soon and you can try to get free when she does." At Rhys' words the Fool started to make a soft keening sound staying curled up at the feet of the statue holding his arm, movement caught Rhys' eye as the statue's face started to turn.

"Now!" Rushing forward Rhys exclaims to the Fool leaning down to push him back out of the statue's grasp. After a moment of resistance the two fell over the sound of tearing fabric filled the air. Sighing Rhys pulled himself up, "like I said before...don't touch the statues, I'm not sure you have enough shirt left to get through too many more of those." Turning back toward the steps Rhys kept a hand on the Fool's arm guiding him none too gently further into the city.

As the group moved toward the stairs a clicking sound met their ears, letting loose of the Fool Rhys stepped forward holding a finger to his lips. Tektite hovered in the shadow of his guardian's wing as the two headed up the stairs. Coming to the top of the stairs Rhys stopped short a frown coming over his face, staring ahead his eyes fell upon a large wheel mounted so it stood vertically; from time to time the wheel would move as the wheel moved the statues behind the group would move as well. "Doesn't seem to be anything hostile up here...and I think I know what this is..."

By the time The Fool and Pogo made their way up the stairs Rhys was already digging in the box of faceless cards, "Wheel of Fortune..." murmuring Rhys glanced over before continuing his search. The Fool had already moved forward toward the wheel as Rhys pulled a card with an X marking it as ten across the bottom. Not giving The Fool time to land them in more trouble Rhys held the card up and the wheel started to fade away, glancing over his shoulder Rhys saw that the statues were fading as well in only moments the courtyard and area ahead of them was empty. Tucking the card away Rhys caught sight of movement nearby, "lets see who else is in this city..." glancing back to Pogo and then to The Fool he made sure Tek was safely tucked away before heading around the nearby corner.

A hooded figure sat upon a bench, the area around the figure was filled with grass and flowers a small tree grew next to the bench gaining height as they watched, as the branches unfurled and leaves filled in a nest appeared with an egg that hatched into a bird within the next few moments. It took only a few minutes for plants to come to full bloom, the tree to grow and the bird to hatch but just as quickly as life had become full it began to wither. The plants started to wilt and the bird began to age, soon the plants were dying and the bird fell from the branch to the ground decay cycled after life. Rhys sucked his breath in staring at the scene, Tek dropped down closer to the ground moving curiously toward the new decaying plants. By the time Rhys shook himself out of his stunned state long enough to take action small buds of beginning life had started to grow over the decay. Shifting his gaze to the new plant life again Rhys reached for his notebook, "change...cycles..." frowning his gaze went over the page.

"Death," The Fool looked over toward Rhys, "It's Death..."

Shifting uneasily Rhys watched as plant life took root again, "Death...change, your right." Reaching to the box Rhys diverted his gaze from the scene unease growing the longer they stood. Within a few moments he pulled the thirteenth card from the box, shifting his gaze back up he realized that the hooded figure had shifted positions and was now looking at him, within the dark hood he could make out the white bone of a skull.

"Beware the False one or your cycle will be at an end." A hollow voice echoed through Rhys' mind as the skull watched him with empty sockets.

Shuddering it took a moment for the boy to recover before he brought the card up and pulled the hooded figure plants bird and all back into the card. Tek's wisp drooped in disappointment as the flower it'd been inspecting came up missing.

"And...lets keep moving, I think that was enough creepy prophecy for me."

"Where is it we are going exactly?" Pogo asked in a terse voice.

Looking over the area Rhys finally pointed North, "further in, toward the center. I'm sure there has to be more cards here."

The group continued on, the quiet of the city seemed to intensify making each step and scuffle of shoes sound overly loud. They didn't speak as they moved, the quiet seemingly almost demanding they respect it. Through a maze of smaller streets they finally found a large inner wall surrounding the structure of a palace.

"Halt!" A stern commanding voice drew their attention and sounded almost deafening compared to the quiet of the city behind them. A tall figure moved down stairs from the wall. Metal gleamed as he came into the light, he wore full armor under a tabard a heavy sword was strapped on the hip of the knight. "What brings you this way?" As he spoke the man looked to Rhys, as the man met his gaze Rhys realized that his eyes were dark and empty. And then Rhys found he couldn't look away, within the darkness of the man's eyes a flood of memories burst toward Rhys. Pain, hurt, anger, from others toward Rhys and from Rhys toward others. As the memories and feelings came to him he saw that they were a cycle as well, an ugly darkness passed from one person to the next and at the center of it all was an explosion and fire. Rhys was taken back to the institute, within the flames that consumed his former prison. Flames that he created...at that moment he felt the pain of family that lost those they knew within the fire.

NO! The cry filled Rhys mind, an unfamiliar voice that felt oddly familiar, filled with urgency. Jerking his head back from the gaze Rhys caught sight of another Knight moving down behind the first his sword drawn. Scrambling back on impulse Rhys' went for the box, Tek took it upon himself to run interference distracting the Knight closest to Rhys by flittering to and fro in front of him.

"And you it seems have paid for the pain you caused others." The knight spoke watching the wisp, before reaching up toward Tek.

"Judgement! Justice!" Rhys pointed from one knight and then to the other with the drawn sword, "help me find them," just barely Rhys kept the cards from scattering as he started a frantic search with The Fool for the correct cards. As the Knight's hand came within grasping distance of the wisp Rhys found the correct cards, flickering the cards toward the knights the two disappeared.

"That was a close call..." frowning Rhys looked to the spot the knights had stood in, questions about the fire came to his mind. The boy paused only a moment before forcing those questions away and motioning to the others. "Lets see what they were protecting," motioning the others onward Rhys followed behind, as the other side of the wall came into view the palace seen before was seen in full. It was a large structure, lovely but static. The marble statues shown beautifully in the light, the gardens were impeccably maintained...lovely but false a place of beauty untouched...uninhabited.

"It looks ab-" the sound of water met Rhys' ears before he could finish, a woman stood over a fountain over a set of balanced measures. Glancing back over her shoulder she looked to where the group stood before turning back to her measures, tilting one of the cups carefully she emptied some of the water out of it causing the measure to tilt. After changing the water in the measures the woman just paused, staying still and waiting.

"I have a feeling we may have tipped the scales," Pogo's voice took on a meaningful tone as he looked up to the bag carrying the box of cards.

"Possibly, and I recognize her...I think." Pausing Rhys opened his notebook and the tarot book from the market, "Temperance...she looks very much like her card." Looking back up, Rhys noted that she hadn't moved, "right..." frowning he searched her card out and moved forward all the while Temperance stood her gaze unwavering as he brought the card up sending her back to her card. Letting a sight out Rhys tucked the card away in the box, "uneventful...and somewhat worrisome....I think we are nearing the end though." Crossing the newly collected cards off his list his eyes went back to the palace. "I have a feeling we are going to run into," his eyes drifted down at the paper as he spoke, "the Emperor and Empress...I'll get their cards ready."

Cards in hand Rhys leads the others toward the palace, Tek lags behind the others pausing to move through plants and other nearby bits of interest. Pulling the door of the building open Rhys glances over behind him at the others, catching the movement of Tek in a nearby shrub a slight smile comes to the boy's face. "Tek...we are going in." The nudging reminder brings the wisp back to the group as Rhys steps inside the Palace. The inside of the building is as lovely as the outside, silver light from the moon plays through the windows, across walls and over tapestries. Starting forward slowly Rhys' eyes drifted over a nearby picture, under the moonlight the image upon it shifted hideously; jerking back Rhys glanced back to the others speaking flatly, "don't stare too long at the decor."

"Might blind you..." Pogo murmured looking to a nearby tapestry.

"Why wouldn't I want to lo-" The Fool paused near a tapestry as he spoke.

Snapping around Rhys yanked The Fool by his arm, "just don't." Huffing childishly The Fool once again found himself dragged along.

The length of the halls seemed to lengthen and soon they started to all look the same. Pressing on stubbornly Rhys continued to drag The Fool along, his pace not allowing Tek to dawdle either.

"So I think we might be going in circles," The Fool dug his feet jerking Rhys to a halt. Stumbling Rhys scowled looking back, "you have a suggestion then?" Leaving Rhys and The Fool, Pogo moved on ahead as a strange staring contest of sorts started up between the two young men.

"Hey! If you two are almost done...I think I found something," Pogo waited by a corner calling back to the two, a large room opened up behind him a dais standing in the middle of it. Drawing their attention away from each other Rhys and The Fool hurried over toward Pogo, Tek hidden among Rhys' shadow as they moved.

Moving toward the dais Rhys soon saw two figures upon it sitting on thrones, glancing back toward The Fool and Pogo he gestured up the stairs. "We're getting close." Once at the bottom of the steps Tek moved ahead some drifting from shadow to shadow as he moved toward the top.

"So you have come, the one working with the deceiver," the man stood from his throne, heavy intricately made robes covering him. Heavy jewels adorned his hands and clothing, a thick gold circulate encrusted with sapphires sat upon his brow.

Remembering the words of Death Rhys paused, "Deceiver? I'm just trying to collect you..." his voice tapered off, still sitting was the Empress her belly swollen with child as she nursed another. As he spoke she looked up with large soulful eyes, "you have not recognized him, but that will not stop him." Under the glare of the Emperor and the thoughtful look of the Empress Rhys shuddered and pulled up the cards he had selected before...he didn't want to chance the Emperor going for a blade as Justice had been doing.

After the two had faded Rhys paused looking over the room and then to The Fool, "who is this deceiver?" Frowning some The Fool shrugs, holding his hand to point at his head. "Really if anyone was going to recognize the lies of another - do you think it would be me?"

With a sigh Rhys nodded, at least The Fool knew his own nature. Before they had time to think any longer on the subject the sound of metal upon stone met their ears. Wrinkling his brow Rhys looked over the room, "Is that coming from the back of the room?"

Pogo moved over near Rhys his ears flickering back and forth, "it is...can't really place with it is."

"Lets go have a look then," glancing back toward The Fool, Rhys gave him a pointed look, "no poking at whatever it is."

Hurrying along Rhys lead the others toward the sound, it was coming from a set of stairs. The stairs lead down past a heavy iron door, the dank smell of stone and water met their noses as they moved closer. "Seems the too perfect to touch doesn't extend to all of this place," Rhys glanced to The Fool and then down into the dark, "lets go see what is down there." Moving down the steps the sound of dripping water could be heard from below; as they moved down into the darkness metal doors and bars came into view.

"Lovely the dungeon..." sarcasm with a touch of fear came from Pogo as they moved into the room below. The rapping sound was coming from one of the cells.

"To the left," Rhys spoke quietly before slowly starting toward the sound, "careful no telling what it is..." he clutched the bag with the cards. As the group came to the cell with the tapping they saw a shadow form within it tapping a metal bar against the stone slowing and then stopping as they approached.

"I don't know... who it is," Rhys glanced back and then to the cell, the shadow form twisting before their eyes becoming larger and more monstrous before reaching it's hand up to a barred window above; as it's hand reaches the window soon the rest slides up the wall and out the window after it.

"Wait!" cursing softly Rhys' gaze comes to a nearby door along the same door as the window, "it's out on the street - come on!" Without waiting for comment from the others, Rhys runs out to the street. The silver moonlight gives some visibility in the alley but doesn't allow enough light to see details. Rhys catches sight of the shadow form moving down another nearby alley, "any idea which card that is?!" pausing only a moment Rhys throws glance to The Fool before sprinting off after the form again.

"I'm not sure! But I can't help but get the feeling that it isn't a very nice one!" The Fool with Pogo on his heels started off after Rhys. Down the next alley the form darted off in yet another direction, "we're going to lose it at this point!" Rhys continued on attempting to catch the form. "What cards are left..." he spoke out loud as he ran attempting to remember his list and those cards not crossed off. Muttering Rhys continued on, the chase keeping his attention off of attempting to figure out what cards he should be searching for as well as keeping him from looking at his list. For sometime they dodged through various alleys and roads moving further and further from the palace and areas they had walked before.

"Rhys! Rhys!" Pogo called from the back of the group, ahead the houses had started to thin out, and in a large patch of ground was a broken down tower. The odd change of landscape would have caused Rhys to pause even if the frantic cries of Pogo hadn't been heard.

"What is that..." the shadow form moved out of sight as it disappeared into the shadow of the tower.

"The Tower..." The Fool's voice was soft with a touch of worry.

Glancing over toward his guide Rhys frowned slightly before looking to his list and then starting his search through the cards. After only a few moments he came up with card sixteen. "Only a few more left," keeping his cobalt blue eyes on The Fool a moment Rhys stepped forward a stubborn look upon his face, The Fool and Pogo didn't budge. Muttering soft reassurances to himself Rhys moves forward, "just a building...nothing to worry about."

The Tower sat quietly as Rhys approached, flipping the card in his hand he started to bring it forward but before the card is brought around fully the ground beneath Rhys feet trembles violently throwing him to the side, as he falls the card slips from his fingers. Throwing himself down Rhys rolls reaching for the card, stones from the tower start to fall around him, one rips along his left wing causing the boy to cry out. With blood trickling on the ground around him Rhys finally gets the card back in his hands, flipping onto his back ignoring the pain in his wing for the moment he turns toward the tower the card facing it. The Tower starts to fade almost instantly but not before Rhys catches sight of a large shadow creature with huge wings and claws standing behind the tower, pushing at the stones and urging it over onto him. Loose rocks continue to fall as it fades, as one hits Rhys on the temple the world goes dark.

Pain was the first thing that he was able to comprehend, blinding, throbbing pain....

Sucking a breath in, more pain accompanied it along with dust. Choking on the dust he began to cough, "by the stars..." cursing he stayed laid back his mind attempting retreat instead of coping with the pain of reality. Darkness started to swarm through his mind, but before he could black out he was interrupted. There was no voice or words but rather an urging, an urging he could understand.

Up, up, up! No words or voice still but the meaning of the urging was simple enough, it was persistent and it wasn't going to let him fade back into the dark. It became a nagging, as the mental prodding continued slowly he started to remember. The research ward, hospital clean his wings hooked up to various gadgets - a person, he was a person...kinda.

The voice that wasn't a voice kept on, pestering and prodding, still in the research ward he was in the corridor to the rooms. Turning he faced his door and the number upon it - 48. And then his memories came pouring back and he started; groaning painfully Rhys realized that unfortunately his current situation hadn't been some sort of horrible dream. Wincing Rhys slowly opened his eyes, in his current state even the soft light of the moon felt blaring, his side hurt, and it felt like he took a good hit to his temple, shifting his wing he winced realizing that he'd done some sort of damage to it as well.

Slowly Rhys pulled himself up, frowning he saw The Fool perched nearby on some remaining rubble. The Fool sat peacefully and appeared untouched by the damage that the falling tower had done to Rhys and the surrounding area. "Ah good your up...and now I suggest ducking!" Not having time to think it over Rhys ducked as a large piece of stone flew past him. The large demonic form that had lead them to the tower and then attempted to crush them with it was still there. "Cripes! The Devil - stars above, where's my bag?" Attempting to keep low Rhys moved through the rubble trying to ignore the throbbing in his head as the devil flung nearby debris in his direction. The creature stomped and huffed angrily, unhappy over how it's plan had turned out in the end.

Movement nearby caught Rhys attention, he realized that it was Tek bobbing up and down urgently near some rubble with a small piece of what appeared to be his bag sticking out. Hurrying over Rhys yanked the bag free, "fifteen" murmuring he paused long enough to search through the few remaining empty cards. "Ha! Found you!" Turning he held the card up pulling the Devil back into his card before collapsing into a heap from exhaustion.

Wobbling slightly Rhys flopped himself over to sit on the ground taking a long slow breath, after a moment he pulled his notebook out resting the box of cards on his knee. "Five cards left...including yours," glancing up to The Fool he then looked back to the list, "The World...which I suspect we are on right now, The Moon," frowning he glanced upward and then back to the book, "your card and it seems the only ones I really need to find are The High Priestess and The Hanged Man. Any idea where to start on these?" At this point what he really wanted was rest but in his current condition he knew he may not continue on at all if he stopped now.

Crooking his brow Rhys watched as Tektite moved along the edge of his sketch pad, the pages rustled turning old sketched images with mathematical equations next to them flipping past as the wisp studied the book. Sudden movement as The Fool jumped from his resting place brought Rhys attention back to him, instead of speaking The Fool brought his finger to his lips and tilted his head as if listening. As the group quieted Rhys could hear what he was listening to, on the wind was the sound of someone speaking - the voice was quick and madness touched, Rhys couldn't understand the language but it seemed to be coming from outside the walls of the city. "There's our start..."

With the city cleared out and empty the twisting roads became easier to navigate, and behind them the palace began to crumble and fall in on itself. "Doesn't look like this place is going to be around much longer without the cards," frowning Rhys picked his pace up The World was still in place but he didn't fancy waiting around too long to find out how long it would take things to completely fall apart. After only a short amount of time walking they found their way outside the city, pausing Rhys took time to listen for what direction the voice was coming from.

It wasn't long before he spotted the silhouette of a man hanging upside down from a tree, a top a nearby hill. "That's where the chanting is coming from...The Hanged Man." It seemed almost surreal to him to be coming near the end of the journey, "doesn't seem we are going to be looking far..." frowning faintly to himself Rhys paused and took the tarot book out, flipping through the pages he quickly read the entry on The Hanged Man. "He's not like The Tower or The Devil...he's a card about clarity, answers coming clear." Shifting his gaze back toward the hanging man Rhys continued to frown before looking over to The Fool and Pogo holding his side - "maybe he has some answers for me...lets just get to the top of that hill."

The small group circled the hill until Rhys lead them up a small worn path up the side, as they started up the hill the words of The Hanged Man became more clear and a structure started to come into view. "There's something else up here..." pausing on the path Rhys took a moment to look over the top of the hill. The Fool spoke up after a moment, "I think your journey is closer to finished then you realize - that's a temple."

Shifting his gaze over toward the temple Rhys took the last few steps until he was standing on top of the hill. Now closer it was more clear how The Hanged Man had been bound, he hung upside down from the tree some sort of rig attached to a straight jacket that kept his arms wrapped close to his body. The Hanged Man paused as Rhys stepped onto the top of the hill, and then the door to the temple opened. A beautiful woman wearing long flowing robes with images of the moon upon them stepped out, The Hanged Man started speaking again his voice softer but the ramblings sounding much the same as they did before. Gripping a card in his hand Rhys turned looking toward the woman.

"You've come quite a ways, but in many ways you are still lost," The priestess voice was soft and throaty, turning her gaze toward Rhys she watched him unwaveringly. After a moment of silent staring Rhys cleared his throat and worked up the courage to speak to her, "well I don't really understand about all the cards and such...but I think I'm almost at the end of my journey." He started to pull the card for the priestess around as he spoke.

The Priestess' gaze went to his hand and she held his hand up for him to stop, Rhys paused part of his mind nagging that she may have some information she'd need. "The deceiver awaits you and awaits us...if he gains our power, there is little that will be out of his grasp." Frowning at her words Rhys looked to the box of cards, "I captured him...he tried to kill me." Rhys wasn't sure if it was the hint of confusion in his voice or the words themselves but the Priestess smiled faintly. "The Deceiver awaits you outside of this place, he sent you to us." She then Gestured over to the bound Hanged Man, "So I have heard and so it is true. Use your cards, we have been under the Moon's sway long enough and I dislike the pain of my companions."

At the mention of pain Rhys saw that the Hanged Man's face was contorted and that he trembled within his bounds. It hadn't occurred to him that some of the cards were in pain...or that they were real; realizing that the priestess was watching him expectantly Rhys nodded and brought around her card and the card of the Hanged Man. The two disappeared fading out of existence as the Priestess faded fully the small temple she once inhabited started to crack and fall apart.

Rhys looked out over the hills the world itself was starting to fade, "it looks like we don't have much more time...you two ready." Turning he looked back toward The Fool and Pogo. Letting out a cry The Fool ran forward and gave Rhys a tight hug, "I'll miss you..." starting in surprise Rhys reached up and carefully patted the other youth on the back. Pogo watched the scene with quiet resign before speaking to Rhys, "if this Deceiver they were talking about has already spoken to you...they aren't going to be friendly toward you or us."

Nodding slightly Rhys glanced to the case of cards, "true...but hopefully they won't realize that I know and that will give me a chance." Stepping back he held The Fools' card in his hand, "I'll keep you safe." Not wanting to drag the moment of parting on longer Rhys raised the card and pulled the Fool back within. Tek moved along the ground to hover over the place that The Fool and his dog had stood; there was sadness there Rhys realized Tek would miss them too.

Glancing up toward the moon and then to the ground he stood on Rhys opened the box, two more cards and he could go back. His plan was fairly simple, get back and get out and away from the Gypsy as quickly as he could - at this point it didn't feel as he had much more of an option. "Away you go...with all the trouble you brought," Rhys watched the moon as it faded away returning to it's card, with the moonlight gone the world became a strange gray empty place. Shuddering slightly at the false feel of the place Rhys glanced toward his wing and Tek, "stay close...I don't want you getting lost." Tek bounced slightly in the air before moving back more snuggling into the shadow of Rhys wing. Letting out a slow breath Rhys brought the last empty card around - the ground under his feet shuddered as the World began shifting and moving being pulled back to it's proper place.

With a flash once again he felt the sensation of falling as he moved from the place within the crystal back to the tent he had entered at. Stumbling Rhys fell heavily onto the cobbles of the ground, his bag with the box of cards and the book fell nearby as did the walking stick he had started the journey with. His plan was still fresh in his mind - get out of the tent and away to safety. Standing up Rhys eyes widened as he saw the Gypsy man that hired him, the man spoke low under his breath and gestured toward Rhys a ball of energy shot from the man's hand and hit Rhys in the chest, a small flash of magic backfired caused the air around him to spark droplets of water spread out from the blast area - with a flash of realization Rhys knew they were related to the water the woman that had given him the book splashed on him earlier in the day. A fiery pain burned through his body, as his vision went blurry whatever the water had done the blast of power from the man in front of him hadn't been deflected by it fully. The thought that it should hurt more hit Rhys ... and then the world went dark.

The burst of power from Lawerance threw Rhys back, most of the power was neutralized by the blessing he'd received from the gypsy woman earlier in his journey. A burning sensation still tingled across his chest, blinking once Rhys realized that he had blacked out for a moment. Nearby he could hear the other man moving around in the tent and soft cursing - shuddering slightly he started to move and then stopped. Whatever had hit him had hurt, and since he was being left alone for the moment he could only assume that Lawerance believed he was dead or hit worse then he had been.

Knowing that his moment of reprieve wouldn't last long Rhys locked his eyes onto the staff he'd been dragging with him through his hunt for the cards. The sound of the gypsy moving closer became louder and Rhys wrapped his hand around the staff as Lawerance came into view he swung with the staff toward the man, "I have a feeling your not going to uphold your end of the deal, Lawerance."

The staff being overly long to be a weapon didn't hit very hard and only caused the man brief pause - that's why Rhys saw what he'd been searching for in the tent. A thick nasty looking knife was held in his hand, it only took him a moment to shake off the blow of the staff before he lunged at Rhys with the blade. Rolling out of the way the two hit the back support of the tent, the canvas fell over them.

azuredreams
Time was everything in Hawk's book. There was a time and place for every action and every word - this occasion was no different. He had, in fact, been preparing a meal for Rhys to enjoy when he got back ( another form of payment for the assistance ) and to boost his energy back up from the ordeal of capturing cards.

That plan went the wayside as he Saw what Lawerance planned. With a growl far more demonic than what he appeared, Hawk had disappeared from the shop in an instance and started towards the market.

The gypsies here did not favor the Seer - if only because of their mutterings of shadowed and cursed they loved to yell at him.

The canvas tent toppled in front of him as Hawk reached it and for a moment he thought himself too late. Except that there was still struggling underneath the canvas!

His hand was all ready in the air, calling forth a rune to summon a breeze to blow off the canvas that covered the two of them up.

'Rhys! Tektite!' he called out, concern coloring his voice.

Cinderfae
Rhys wasn't a fighter, but he did have a fair amount of wiry muscles on him. He'd seen Cinder and Clotho fight, the trouble was other then having a general idea he'd never done it himself. So when Lawerance struggled up and toward him with the tent still pressed against him, Rhys attempted to sweep his legs out from under him. The leg sweep didn't go as well as Rhys could have hoped for, the boy ended up bashing his shin against the man hurting himself in the process but it did throw Lawerance off balance; hopefully long enough for Hawke to get there.

Tek bounced frantically the little wisp flailed it's shadowy tendrils threateningly toward Lawerance. Though unfortunately considering it's size Tek was hardly noticed. Hearing Hawke nearby Tek urged him toward them, focusing on the 'voice' Tek attempted to focus the feeling of urgency in much the same manner.

As Lawerance stumbled Rhys called out hearing Hawke as well, "here!" He didn't bother on trying to yell more and started instead to focus on moving back, wincing he bit his lip as his injured wing banged against the ground but he kept moving.

azuredreams
The canvas that was covering the tent was blown away in a fierce wind that Hawk had called forth.

Part of him hoped it would just blow away Lawerance, but the man probably had clung to the supports. The elder fiend felt Tek's worry, could sense that he was trying to pull him a certain direction, and so he let himself follow the pull - following what he Saw in his mind's eye.

The fiend disappeared from sight, moving through the destruction of the tent, to where Rhys was sure to be.

'Stay close,' he murmured, reappearing next to Rhys. His hands became solid as he offered the young man one to help him stand.

Cinderfae
Rhys started slightly as the fiend appeared, but quickly took hold of Hawke's hands and brought himself to his feet. Clutching the bag holding the box of cards closely to his side he held the staff as well. Tek brushed against the other fiend enthusiastically, bits of wispy shadows brushed against Rhys and Hawke as Tek attempted to keep between the two.

Whatever Lawerance had used to throw a ball of power at Rhys before he seemed to be out. As Rhys came to his feet he caught sight of the man, metal glinted in his hand and he recognized a gun.

Snarling Lawerance looked toward the two with dark eyes, "hand the box over and this can be over," the man's aim was leveled toward Rhys.

azuredreams
There was a low growl from Hawk, his tail swishing back and forth in agitation. It was purely mental, however, but it was still something different from the Seer.

Gingerly, aware of the fact that Rhys was injured, he pushed the young man behind him and urged Tektite to hide there as well.

'I'm sorry, but he all ready has a previous arrangement with me.' Hawk's eyes glowed a little brighter for a moment. 'Binding contract and all.'

The shadow worked quickly, calling forth more than one rune in the air. One was just a precaution, a barrier between them and Lawerance, but the other.

The other was fire; focused on the gun in the man's hand and hot enough to either make him drop it or weld it to his hand.

Probably the latter. Hawk was not feeling particularly giving - especially considering the man HAD tried to harm a guardian.

Cinderfae
Rhys stumbled back allowing Hawke to take the lead in the situation, the pain in his wing was causing his vision to swim and he didn't fancy himself able to go up against a gun.

Although Tek didn't seem particularly frightened except for his guardian he darted over to hide against Rhys' leg.

The gun heated up causing the metal to warp, yelping in pain Lawerance attempted to drop the weapon shaking his hand. As the man shook his hand bits of the gun fell to the ground but not enough to be the entire gun. Holding his injured arm at the wrist he stared a moment at the two before turning and fleeing into the night.

Rhys let a breath out as Lawerance started to flee, "is this what... it's always like here?"

Tek moved out from his hiding spot fluttering from side to side before darting forward to investigate the fallen bits of the gun.

azuredreams
'Not all ways ...' he murmured, once he was certain that Lawerance was truly out of sight and not coming back. He turned his attention to Rhys, seeing his appearance in his mind's eye.

'Does it need to be set?' The wing, he meant. Reaching out an arm, he steadied Rhys just in case he became TOO dizzy. His touch was, for a shadow, oddly warm.

That and it helped that he was sharing a bit of his energy with the young man in an attempt to bolster his reserves.

Cinderfae
Rhys rested against Hawke wincing slightly as all the aches from his journey started to make themselves feel known. Turning his head he glanced back to his wing, "I'm not sure - I've never hurt my wing before..." frowning slightly he attempted to fan his wings but ended up wincing and biting his lip to cut off a cry of pain. "Ok, yeah it probably needs to be set...but we should probably move from here."

Tek settled in next to part of the gun that had fallen to the ground with Lawerance's shaking as Rhys and Hawke attempted to get situated the little wisp latch onto the few mechanical parts of the weapon.

azuredreams
'Before more attention is attracted, yes.' He put a steadying arm around Rhys offering himself as support. 'I can tend to some of your injuries when we get away from here.'

For a moment, Tek disappeared from his Sight and then reappeared near ... the gun? He tilted his head that way and raised an eyebrow.

'Little one, you should be careful and we should get your guardian home ...'

Cinderfae
Rhys nodded slightly, pulling his wings back he caught his breath but found a position to rest them that didn't make his head dizzy. "I think I should be good to travel now ... got the cards though."

Tek for a moment looked over the bits from the gun, the little wisp darted back hearing Hawke, although unable to articulate it a feeling of unhappiness radiated from the little fiend. Not only was his guardian hurt but the gun had been melted in such a way that no interesting parts were left for him.

With Tek back near him Rhys started off with Hawke away from the fallen tent. Further away in the shadows the older gypsy woman that had blessed Rhys earlier watched the boy leave with the cursed shadow a frown etched on her face.

azuredreams
Hawk tilted his head to the side for a moment and then turned to look over his shoulder at the gypsy woman.

'If you say so,' he murmured back to Rhys, 'but we need to get it set soon before it starts to mend.' The elder fiend sent a small trail of shadow to keep Tek amused, if only because of the disappointment he was radiating. The little one did so like mechanical things - it was odd, he thought.

'We'll see what we can do for you at the shop in the back room, yes?'

Cinderfae
The gypsy looked ahead watching Hawk in return, nodding slightly to him sadness touching her eyes slightly before stepping back into the shadows and heading off back to her own tent.

Rhys nodded, "alright, yeah working on it would be awesome... I feel a little dizzy." Rhys allowed himself to be steered around back toward the shop, sighing in relief when they returned to the familiar shop.

Tek hurried along chasing Hawk's tail, following along happily to the shop.

azuredreams
For a moment the Seer paused and tilted his head back to where the woman was. Blind eyes narrowed before shaking his head; whatever it was that she had spread around the market was the very reason why he could not come to it and had to ask what he did of Rhys.

With an annoyed mental growl to himself, he found he was glad to be away from the place and back near the familiar shop. He quickly navigated Rhys to the back entrance ( it was best to not bring an injured guardian into the front ) and set him down on the couch in the back room.

'I am going to get a first aid kit, it will be a moment,' he murmured, once he was certain that Rhys would be okay to sit up. He did, however, make sure that he left plenty of shadows behind for Tek to toy around with. It would keep the wisp occupied and happy and those happy feelings would do wonders for his guardian, he was sure.

Cinderfae
Gisella paused a moment looking over the various things in her tent, the darkness within the Seer was still there and could still yet do great harm. For the night however that was not her biggest concern, one of their own had brought damage upon another as the Shuvani for the small group of travelers in the area it would not be allowed to pass. While Hawk saw to Rhys' wounds Gisella would see to the fate of Lawerance.

Rhys collapsed on the couch and closed his eyes nodding some to Hawk. After a moment of resting the boy leaned over the side of the couch to watch Tek, the little wisp skittered about the floor chasing after the shadows that had been left for him content like a child with their favorite toy.

Sitting up straight in his seat Rhys fanned his wing as much as the pain would allow him and turned his head attempting to get a look at the damage; a laceration ran along the length of the damaged wing starting to heal in some places, he did note with a frown that the outer edge of his wing wasn't straight as it should have been.

azuredreams
As Hawk came back, the first aid kit in hand, he wondered if perhaps he should see about getting something for Tektite. A mechanical toy perhaps - one of those annoy monkeys that clapped cymbals together. It would be amusing to see him tear the contraption apart ...

'I shall clean up the wound and bandage it,' the Seer paused, Sight providing him with a visual of the wing, 'but I believe that will need to be set first.' Settling beside the young man, he tilted his head to the side after setting the kit down on the table. 'Tell me when you are ready.'

Cinderfae
Rhys winced slightly listening to Hawk, "eh..." he glanced over at his wing, he knew that it was going to hurt a lot. Sucking in a slow breath Rhys sat up straight and then relaxed, "as ready as I can be." He'd had his experiences with physical pain in a variety of levels but that didn't mean he looked forward to it. Rhys had relaxed but kept his hands resting on his knees his eyes glancing toward Tek, he'd focus on the fiend as a distraction he decided.

Tek darted over toward the two leaving the shadows he had been playing games of chase with. His guardian's mood had changed and drew his attention. Moving over toward Rhys Tek moved around his feet and then over and around Hawk's tail effectively moving closer and climbing up, as if he were a curious child.

"...are you familiar with wings?" Rhys glanced over toward Hawk, one of the problems he'd had upon arriving or rather that Cinder had, was finding a doctor that had experience with wings.

azuredreams
The Seer hummed a response as he gently ran his fingers along the wing, carefully following the curve and feeling for the place where bone did not meet together correctly. As soon as he found it, Hawk shared some of his energy - a brief boost of the others reserve to help bolster him as he set the bone back into place.

'A little,' he said quietly, once he was finished and satisfied that his Sight confirmed the wing to be back in proper position, 'my soul-bonded, Wren, broke one of his wings once a long time ago and had me set it for him but it also helps that my Sight lets me see the way things should be.

'I would still suggest having someone look at it to make sure it will be fine. With bones it is better to set them and get them back in place rather than let them begin to fix themselves improperly.'
Hovering in front of the young man he opened up the first aid kit and pulled out the necessary items to clean up the laceration. 'This may sting - though I must ask, how much faster do you heal than an average being?'

Cinderfae
Rhys winced slightly glancing over giving a bit of a nod in response to Hawk, he hoped that the seer sight really did the job. "Cinder knows someone I think...she mentioned it when Clotho and I arrived," he offered up the information attempting to not focus on the treatments to his wing as they were starting to do more then just sting.

Tek picking up on the distress from his bonded hovered over curling around Rhys leg, the wisp's little shadow tendrils drifting this way and that.

Rhys winced slightly, "I don't really heal much more quickly...I just tend to heal better. I don't really scar...and bruises don't last long. I think it's from Cinder's DN -" Rhys paused and decided to simplify the idea, "from my mother's genes." He realized that he didn't really know what the Seer did and did not know and his wing throbbed enough he didn't feel like getting into long discussions about the medical planets and the changes they caused to their inhabitants.

azuredreams
'Then perhaps it is best to let Cinder have final say.' He paused, before giving him a look - an amused twinkle in his eye. 'Or not, if you do not wish for her to know what exactly you were up to today. You should be fine, I do not See anything wrong.'

Things change, however, but he was inclined to trust his Sight in this instance.

'Genetics and hereditary,' Hawk mused, 'are much like how we shadows pick up traits from our guardians. You have inherited such from your mother, just as you may or may not pass on such traits to Tektite as he grows.' The Seer was speaking to distract the young man, though he did catch flickers of what he meant behind his words, he was not prying.

Not now in any case, it served him no purpose, and would only distract him from cleaning and tending the lacerations. His touch was gentle, albeit strangely warm as he worked. 'It seems this is not as bad as it likely feels. The blood probably makes it look worse. You will be sore, however ...'

'Tis the Season for a Joyride
Joint - Merci`& Cinder

User Image

Cinderfae
The house was quiet, Cinder and Merci were off helping Clotho with a few things. Rhys looked around his room moodily before standing and heading to the door, he was grounded. He knew he should be grounded but that didn't mean he had to actually like it. Stepping out of his room Rhys looked over the hall ahead of him, even Peeps was off working on a few things on the ship. A sound from below caught Rhys attention, frowning the boy moved up to the railing and peered over the edge it sounded like someone else was in the house.

"Hm, lets go make sure we aren't being robbed..." Rhys murmured glancing over to Tektite floating in the shadow of his left wing before heading to the stairs, he tucked his wing in some before heading to the hall instinctively shielding the wounded skin along the edge. Taking the stairs two at a time he scanned the area below as he descended.

Merci`
Dio hummed to himself, a silent tune to those without the ear for his telepathic form of communication. The melody was odd, yet somehow beautiful. His long bang curled down over half his face, hiding it from view, but despite that, it was still easy to tell that the fiend had changed, a lot. It wasn't just the clothes, the hair, the new piercings; he was taller, slightly broader, and both of his arms worked.

The most striking difference was perhaps the fact that the once fully sleeved arm, was now bare for the world to see, and on it sparkled a map of the heavens.

Dio was not entirely used to all of the differences in himself. He was confused by so much of it. It seemed to him that somehow, overnight, his perceptions had altered.

It was because of his discomfort with himself that when Merci and Cinder had left, he was thrilled to find he hadn't the compulsion to go with them.

Plus it gave him time to decorate while they were gone!

He was determined that the shop was not the only place he would have the chance to celebrate the Bright Star festival, he would do it right here at home too. The fiend was hanging star shaped ornaments and paper cut outs all over the place with delight. Dio was setting up a particularly ornate display on the Foyer when his left arm dropped to his side. It was more from force of habit then any actual problem. He, for some reason, still didn't feel entirely comfortable with the use of that arm.

The limb swung at his side as he worked. Be it from the change in size, or the fact he was utterly distracted, he didn't notice when he went to turn that his limp left arm would hit the hat rack and send it crashing to the floor.

The sudden noise startled him enough that he dropped the ornaments that he was still carrying. The tinkling of glass joined the echoing boom from wood hitting wood.

Dio put a hand up over his visible eye and heaved a large sigh.

This was so going to take getting used too.

Cinderfae
Rhys shifted his gaze to look over the variety of stars that had popped up through out the house, with all the trouble and running that he'd been getting into he hadn't had time to even hear about festival yet. He didn't know why the stars were up but after a moment he decided he liked the effect. Leaning over the rail he looked toward where he heard the noise and paused.

The coat rack was laying on the floor but that wasn't what Rhys was staring at, he had caught sight of Dio at first he hadn't realized who it was the fiend had changed a great deal. He hadn't seen the fiend in sometime and the change was a bit startling, he realized that Dio now looked more substantial and more fully there. The stars over the skin of Dio's arm drew his attention for quite a while and Rhys continued to stare until it was likely impolite to be doing so. Tektite floated over toward Rhys face flickering at his guardian, blinking a few times Rhys cleared his throat and moved down the last few steps.

Standing another moment looking ahead a bit dumbly he finally found his voice, "uhm...Dio? Is everything all right?" even as he spoke Rhys moved forward leaning down to right the rack that had been knocked over.

Merci`
Dio floated there for a moment, and he felt a rush of embarrassment at the fact Rhys had caught him at a particularly clumsy moment. However the embarrassment was quickly overcome by the happiness of seeing his friend again. It had been entirely to long! 'Rhys! I am fine, I'm just not used to being bigger yet.' His tone was a bit sheepish.

Oooo...

Dio's attention was caught by Tektite and he put his arms behind his back and moved a bit closer to the wisp. 'Why Hello there little one. I didn't notice you before. I'm very sorry.' He loved wisps, he didn't know why but they appealed to him. He held up his hand and offered a finger for Tek to investigate should he feel the need. 'I was not aware you had a wisp Rhys. Has he a name?' The braid that now hung next to his face swung gently as he leaned over, his burgundy eyes appraising the young shadow.

Cinderfae
Rhys was still stuck on the fact that his friend was bigger, and continued to watch Dio curiously. "Yeah I could see how that would be startling...you sort of sprang up overnight..." the shimmering of jewelry caught Rhys eyes and he raised a brow, "you got piercings too it seems." A slight smile came to his face over the last before he looked up to his friend's face and then over to Tektite.

"Well I haven't really had a wisp long...sort of found it in my room while I was cleaning it out. And well it's Tektite, I just call it Tek in general it seems to work."
The smile spread over his face some as he watched Dio and Tek interact. Tek moved toward the other fiend curiously and brushed up against Dio's finger before darting over and around the fiend keeping to the shadows.

"Yeah...Tek can be kinda feisty sometimes," chuckling some Rhys watched the wisps antics a moment before looking around the room and then back, "so what's the occasion? Why are all the stars being put up?"

Merci`
The older fiend's eye creased with what would be laugh lines if he had a normal face. The idea of having another like himself around wasn't at all disconcerting to him. In fact he was kind of excited. It would be like having a little brother maybe! Though when Dio thought about it he had no idea what being an older brother entailed. He would have to go to the library and pull some books on the subject.

He didn't answer Rhys' question right away, as he was distracted by the idea of being a mentor and example to those younger then himself. Dio's eye widened and he looked back at his handiwork. 'The.. oh right the lights and everything! It's for the Bright Star Festival! I found the information in a book about the ancient and extinct civilizations. So I talked Merci into celebrating it instead of Christmas! Don't worry though.. there are still presents.' His tail swished behind him as he spoke, obviously he was pleased with himself and his discovery.

Cinderfae
A small smile crept onto Rhys face as he watched the variety of expressions dance over Dio's face. It left him wondering what was being thought over. He hadn't really known Dio all that well before he had seen the change but now...well the change was very apparent and fascinating all in it's own.

"Oh right...Christmas," Rhys paused for a long moment his face turning thoughtful, he really hadn't had any sort of holiday before. The prospect of celebrating one for the first time made feel excited and a touch ill at the same time. "I..." shifting from one foot to the other self consciously he continued on after a moment, "well I never celebrated Christmas...or well anything really before." Glancing over at the decorations thoughts raced through his mind, presents for one ... what was he going to get people and was he expected to...what did he need to do before he let it overcome him he continued on, "so what do we do for this festival?"

Merci`
Dio cocked his head sideways at Rhys and he couldn't help feeling the discomfort at the subject. Fiends were naturally just a touch empathetic. 'Christmas is fun, but we aren't really doing just that this year. We're doing Bright Star! It has days, many days. Each on different and you celebrate it differently. I'm putting up the stars and lights cause it's important, it was something the Alisari did.'

Dio knew somehow that the long dead people were important to him, but he couldn't really put a finger on why. His normally limp arm seemed to come to life and tug at Rhys, 'I'll show you the book! I found it in a book that Merci bought me.' The Fiend slipped past him toward the stairs. Dio could help but hold his hand out as he passed Tek, brushing the little wisp with his fingers as he passed. 'It's up in my room, come on!'

Cinderfae
Not being given time to over think the whole holiday thing Rhys let himself be dragged along by the fiend. "The book sounds interesting..." at least if there was a book he could read about it and hopefully not mess anything up too badly.

As they journeyed up the stairs Tektite took up hiding in the crook of Rhys' wing.

"So presents...does everyone usually get one...or..." the vague idea that you are suppose to get presents for people you like on holidays came to Rhys, but until really recently he hadn't really had holidays to worry about let alone people he would care enough about to get gifts for during them.

Once to Dio's room Rhys gave the fiend a moment to get the book, "so these, Alisari - who were they?" If the fiend was this excited Rhys assumed there was a reason it was this festival that was important over others.

Merci`
Dio sailed along in front of Rhys, 'Everyone usually buys presents for everyone else. Like I would buy presents for you, Merci, the snakes, Cinder, Tek. You know, everyone. Money isn't usually a big deal cause Merci gives it to me. I like books.' The shadow pushed the door open to his room, which looked like a tornado may have hit it. The bed was covered with papers, star charts, and books. The mess spilled onto the floor and every flat surface had some sort of research spread out on it. Looking at the space it was obvious he didn't use it for much of anything but a place to store his stuff.

Dio floated over the piles and picked up a book from the in-table next to the bed. To look at the room it would be obvious that this book was pretty highly prized. It wasn't laying half open discarded on the floor, it had been on the most clutter free surface. 'I don't know as much about the Alisari as I would like. It,' Dio paused and looked down at the pages as he flipped through the old book, 'I mean they are an extinct race, they don't really exist anymore. They might be related somehow to the Medusa, I just came upon that theory. Anyway they have to do with my... past.'

Cinderfae
Rhys paused and blinked slightly looking over the room before following the fiend inside. "I'm not sure I'm going to be so good at the whole thing..." once the book itself was handed over Rhys took time to look over it carefully. As he read over the festival the story of the star brought a slight smile to his face, and noting the present giving he glanced up at Dio again, "what kind of books do you like?" If he was going to be buying presents Rhys decided he might as well get an idea.

"Your past...what about your past?" Glancing up Rhys looked over to the little shadow. He knew that when it came to their pasts the fiends didn't really remember much, but he had a feeling that was different fiend to fiend.

Merci`
Dio looked at Rhys for a few moments and glanced up toward the skylight that took up most of the ceiling of his room.'I like all kinds of books, mostly extinct races, astrology and astronomy books. Though I'm kinda liking Physics and Quantum Physics lately too.'

His burgundy eye stayed locked on the sky outside the skylight. Dio knew he could try and ignore the question about his past, but it would be rude. He was trying to cultivate a friendship with his new family. Without moving his head, his eye rolled to the side and regarded Rhys from where he was. 'Yeah, my past. We didn't just appear out of nothing you know. We used to be someone, something, somewhere.'

It wasn't something he'd talked to Merci about, or really anyone other then Hawk. Part of him wanted to keep his thoughts a secret. After all he shouldn't go telling Rhys everything anyway. He had a shadow of his own, one that might not be ready for him to know about what really happened to them.

His reddish orb rolled to regard Tek. Who knew who he used to be, what life was stolen from him. 'I don't remember much, just that the Alisari were a part of my past.' Okay so that was a half-truth but he just didn't feel like talking about it right now. Dio's eye moved back toward the skylight again and sighed quietly, talking almost as if to himself 'I can hear them singing sometimes, the stars, but I can't understand them.'

Cinderfae
Rhys quirked a brow, "physics..." theories, numbers, and images came to his mind in a flash, "I know a little about it ..." shrugging slightly Rhys glanced over to the window, letting his eyes focus on the sky and letting his mind clear as he does; no time for numbers and figures... not tonight.

Rhys lip twitches slightly, he knew they use to be someone...at times watching them grow it was easy to forget. The reminder took him by surprised and sent his thoughts to the wisp nearby. Tek for his part seemed to be ignoring the conversation and bobbed around Dio's telescope.

Rhys for a moment considered asking more of the boy about this past of his...but as the subject of the stars came back up his eyes turned toward the heavens once again. "Maybe you just need more time to listen to them..." pausing Rhys continued watching the sky his mind wandering in thought, "Cinder says that the stars speak to her when she's flying...I wonder if it's similar." Part of his mind reasoned that it was likely very different, after all his mother and Dio were very different creatures. But if there was a kinship with stars Rhys reasoned that it was likely that Cinder was part of it...

Blinking rapidly Rhys shook his head chasing more troubled thoughts to the back of his mind for the moment, "never did finish mapping the local stars correctly."

Merci`
Dio stretched out his left arm, and turned his eyes away from the sky. He glanced toward his own limb and used his right hand to point. 'From what I can tell it's completely accurate. I've been double checking against my charts.' His eyes moved from his arm up toward Rhys, and then over to Tek. He could tell already he wasn't going to be as good at this whole "being an example" thing as Mystic and Hawk were.

Dio held his arm out quietly for few moments and then his head cocked to the side. 'She flies? But she doesn't have wings like you do, how does she fly?'

Oh he doubted that Cinder heard the stars speak like he did. After all she didn't hum the songs they sang and night. But he was willing to try different things at this point. Dio felt he would have to do more then read and stare at stars through his telescope to learn more about himself and the connection he had to the heavens.

Cinderfae
Rhys eyes stayed on the heavens as he listened to Dio, his lip twitched in amusement at the question of Cinder's flying. "She flies, in a ship ... " Rhys flickered his hand toward the sky, "in space, stars...are much different up close." Frowning faintly he glanced over toward Tek and then Dio, "they are actually rather bright."

While the two conversed Tektite used the time to slowly glide closer to Dio, the little wisp's tiny tendrils of shadow reaching out and brushing along the other fiend's side. Whoever Tek had been, or whatever didn't seem all that concerned with personal space.

Rhys grin widened slightly and he flexed his wings, "as for my wings...well truthfully they aren't very good for flying. Gliding maybe, but really it seems to be more like controlled falling." Sighing gently Rhys shifts his gaze to his wings and then to Dio.

Merci`
The burgundy eye moved from his arm down to his side and crinkled slightly in what could only be called a smile at the tiny wisp. Dio was obviously unconcerned with Tek's explorations. He still remembered being that small, the curiosity and wonder that he had for those of his own kind. Without looking away he spoke to Rhys 'You mean that floating metal thing that you came in? It came from the sky? So you've been close to a star before? Did it talk to you? What did it look like?'

He paused and heaved a sigh to himself. It seemed that even though he was a bit older that he was still not able to control himself like he would like. Dio was aware of the annoyance that Hawk and sometimes Mystic would show at his incessant questions. He'd promised himself he would work on being more refined. 'Sorry, I'm just really excited. I think I would love to go high in the sky and see them up close. I don't think that books are going to give me the answers I need.'

Dio blinked and then his eye moved up to look Rhys in the face, he could barely contain himself at the idea, 'Could we go flying in that box too? Like you did when you came here?

Cinderfae
Rhys couldn't help but feel that Tek was being more invasive then necessary but Dio didn't seem to mind so he left it. "Yep, as for talking to stars...I don't think I'd be as good at that as you would be." At Dio's excitement Rhys smiled giving the fiend time to settle before answering.

"Well we could see them up close...though with our current position..." frowning Rhys glanced to the sky. "I know Tek can't leave me...would we need to take Merci? I think Cinder would make us wait a while if we went and got them though."

Rhys mind was already considering the easiest way to get on the Warhammer without alerting his mother or Merci. After the past week he wasn't feeling very much up to being grounded, as he waited for Dio to answer he stretched his wing out giving Tek his hiding spot back if he wanted it, the wounded area along his left wing causing him to wince slightly at the movement.

Merci`
Dio rolled his eye up and thought about it for a moment. Merci and Cinder hadn't been gone long, and to be honest he wasn't feeling particularly strained without her around. It was a strange feeling, because he was used to being with Merci all the time. Every moment she was awake pretty much with a few exceptions when he was star gazing. 'I can go without her!' His tone was a little defensive. He was growing up after all and he wasn't a child anymore to cling to Merci's skirt all the time.

After all how would he learn anything about himself if he was constantly reliant on her?

He folded his arms and canted his head to the side, 'You mean we can go? Just the two of us? Can you work the box?'

His eye moved over to the wing when he noticed his 'brother' wince and his eyebrow quirked upwards, but he didn't bring it up. If Rhys thought it would be a problem he would have said something about it before. He was concerned and before he really realized he was doing it, his concern touched Rhys through the empathy that all Fiends seemed to have.

Cinderfae
Grinning slightly at Dio's response Rhys nodded, "all right, but if there's a problem let me know." Glancing to Tek and then the stairs Rhys made a quick checklist of what he'd need.

"Oh yeah I can fly the box, just don't let Cinder hear you calling her ship that." Rhys voice was filled with amusement as he spoke to the Fiend. "Shouldn't have any problem with it, Cinder has Mycroft downloaded to a portable unit in the house for now. The back up AI, Dos won't give us problems. Just bare bones in comparison to Mycroft..." Rhys let his thoughts trail off realizing that Dio likely wouldn't be overly interested in how he was going to do it.

Turning to grab up his bag and jacket the feeling of concern from Dio hit Rhys. Blinking quickly he paused attempting to focus on the feeling, after a moment he realized where it came from. Looking back over at Dio Rhys shifted a moment unsure how to vocalize a response. Clearing his throat and giving his mind a moment to unscramble over the touch of empathy he smiled slightly. Shifting his wing some he glanced over where the smart bandage was laid against it, "tower tried to fall on me...wasn't pretty. Wasn't good for really flying anyway..." shrugging slightly he turned his gaze back to Dio, "won't need them for flying the ship anyway." A grin broke out over his face as he spoke.

Merci`
Dio furrowed his brows at the somewhat self depreciating comments. He floated a bit closer to Rhys and stayed silent for a moment before he decided that now was probably not a good time to scold his friend. Something about the way Rhys talked about himself bothered the Fiend, like he thought that he was a freak, or that his wings were both useless and unsightly. Both of which were completely untrue. After all he was the one without legs, floating around in the air, with a stone embedded in his chest, and stars twinkling under his skin.

Dio finally gave him a solid nod and unfolded his arms, keeping his left arm folded across his body as he moved. If Rhys was alright with it he should just let it go. 'Should I bring anything? I have star charts in my room. Do you think we'll actually get close to a star?'

He let his natural curiosity carry him away from the uncomfortable topic. Though for the first time in his life it wasn't all consuming. At the back of Dio's mind still nagged the fact that he should do something, or be more considerate.

Cinderfae
Rhys took a moment to slide his wings into his jacket, taking extra time over the wounded one. "If you want to bring your star charts go ahead." Rhys smiled glancing over to Dio, "we have star charts on the ship's computer though that I can show you how to use, can also make print outs for when we're back."

"As for a star," Rhys moved toward the nearby window looking toward the sky, "we'll have to take a look at the ship's charts and see what the closest star is...though..." Rhys frowned looking over to Dio, "stars are very bright when you get close, your sun is likely the closest and - well for obvious reasons we might not want to get too close to one."

Merci`
The fiend floated after Rhys, his tail swishing behind him happily. Dio reached up with his right hand and touched the piercing over his eye unconsciously, he wasn't quite used to it yet. 'If you have charts already then I won't bother.' The excitement in his voice was palpable as he followed the other boy. 'I know that science says that the sun is a star, just the closest one. I also know that the reflection of light on the other planets can make them seem like stars in the night sky. That's why you can see Venus and the others shining in the darkness. I'll know what I'm looking for when I hear it, I want to find the song.'

Dio paused and dropped his hand from playing with the new silver ring over his eye. 'It won't make sense to you. I've never met anyone it's made sense to. Not ever, and it's kind of lonely.'

The Fiend sighed. Honestly he probably should have kept his feelings to himself, but Rhys made him feel comfortable. After all he was his "brother" because Cinder and Merci were a happy couple or something. 'We should hurry though,' He started again, trying to distract from his last comment. 'I don't know when they were supposed to be home.'

Cinderfae
Rhys glanced over toward Dio as he stepped outside, Tektite as if picking up on the antics of the night bobbed around Rhys' head excitedly. "Ok, so it's a specific star," Rhys glanced back again thoughtfully, "well I can understand - understanding things that others might not...and searching for something that might not even be attainable." Pausing a moment Rhys considered the fiend's statement a moment longer speaking softly, "and I can understand being lonely..." clearing his throat he continued on not wanting to dwell too long on things.

A bit of a grin came to his face taking quick steps toward where the Warhammer was stored, "I hope your up for this, because it isn't likely they are going to miss what we are about to do...and I can't imagine them being overly pleased." Rhys moved up toward the ship, having made better time then he realized, "but... this way we don't have to wait a month or so before Cinder decides we can use it."

Merci`
Dio's eyes crinkled with laughter, and the sound echoed through Rhys mind. 'I'm not worried about getting in a little trouble. This is important and Merci will forgive me. Anyway what is she going to do? Spank me? I'm a Shadow!' Dio's voice was laced with amusement as he spoke. He emphasized his point by phasing his hand through the metal of the ship as they approached it. 'All she can really do is yell at me.'

He could handle a little yelling. It was the Festival of the Bright Star! What better time could there be to try and sort out the songs the stars sang to him in the night? 'I'll tell them I forced you if it makes things easier for you?' Dio offered offhandedly.

Cinderfae
Rhys chuckled hearing Dio's laughter, "hm, well I'm not that worried - can't get into anymore trouble then I'm already suppose to be in." With a slight shrug Rhys finished typing in the authentication code to access the ship, laying his palm along the pad next to the door the door slide open.

"You forced me..." Glancing over Rhys raised a brow, "how did you do that? With a spanking?" His voice filled with humor at the last, "I'm not overly worried about it either, to be truthful."

"Lets make sure the ship is comfortable for everyone," glancing over to Tek and then Dio Rhys stepped inside the door speaking as he does, "Dos, bring down the overhead lights to ten percent and keep running lights at a minimum." The lights in the ship reacted almost instantly to the command, a flat neutral voice played over a nearby speaker, "lights adjusted."

Smirking slightly Rhys turned and motioned Dio in, the expression looked very much like Cinder something the boy was unaware of and likely would be unsure how to take if pointed out, "hopefully that'll help some, you'll need to come into the entry and I'll give Saki the command that your a guest and not to be harmed. She probably couldn't hurt you...but she might break something trying to pounce."

Stepping in, Rhys motioned to a spot for Dio to stand and reached to a nearby panel to call the land octopus.

Merci`
Dio paused for a moment and he concentrated a bit, his body becoming solid. It came to him much more easily then it did before, and he gasped a bit when he settled on the ground. Legs, he had LEGS. His burgundy eye widened slightly at the change and he glanced up at Rhys. 'I have no idea what I just did....' He sounded confused and at the same time a bit excited. He could look more like his family now!

His tunic hung down over a pair of loose pants, the outfit was vaguely Asian in it's appearance. Dio tapped his left foot against the floor before his eye crinkled in a smile. The fiend reached over and touched Rhys arm, and curled his fingers around it and stepped into him for a hug. It had always been such a strain before, Dio always had to concentrate to say in contact with things when he was smaller.

Now he just held his friend and he let out a very genuine giggle.

Cinderfae
Rhys started slightly looking over at Dio, pausing to stare at the change. A slight smile came to his face, "I didn't know you could do that ..." Rhys leaned over looking at Dio's legs and clothing, "so you made the clothing too?"

As Dio came closer and hugged him Rhys grew still, his wings twitching lightly at the affection. Although only slight contact he wasn't use to affection, standing a moment unsure Rhys after finally leaned into the hug. Tektite bobbed between the two as if attempting to get in on the hug as well. A thought coming to his mind after a moment, "er...what happens to the piercing on your tale when you get legs?"

Sound from the air duct overhead interrupted the two, "ah, Saki is here..." as if knowing she was being talked about a tentacle came from the overhead duct. Saki carefully came down from the duct, she was molten colored of greens. Looking very much like her aquatic namesake, Saki moved fluidly across the floor of the ship toward the two. A small mechanical device was strapped around her, two wires came from it connecting to her head as she moved within reaching distance the harsh sounds of Draconian Classic music could be heard coming from it.

"Saki, this is Dio - he's welcomed," leaning down Rhys met the creature's eyes and spoke soft commands in Draconian, after speaking Rhys moved back and Saki moved over to inspect Dio.

"Just don't move threateningly and ... you should be fine."

Merci`
Dio blinked a little bit and looked down at himself. He was wearing pants, and they were comfortable too. The fiend was still entirely too fascinated with this new found appendages. Rhys question about his tail dangly had him furrowing his brows.

Dio didn't have time to really fixate on his peaked curiosity, as he witnessed something almost as strange as he was slide into view. His burgundy eye fixed on the creature and he cocked his head to the side. Somehow seeing Saki made him want to giggle a little bit, because he found himself assured that out there in the universe there were stranger looking things then him. The music was discordant and strange to him, but he could tolerate the grating noise.

Dio carefully extended his right hand, his left dangling next to him much like it did when he was a child. He murmured at her, 'Hello, I hope you don't mind how I communicate. I can't speak out loud.' His left hand moved up to where he should have a mouth and touched his face, 'I don't have a mouth or anything.'

The Fiend didn't seem particularly worried that he would get hurt by this oddity.

Cinderfae
Saki moved with a strange fluidity around the two. Pausing the land octopus tilted her head keeping Dio in view with a large dark eye, shifting slightly she stayed still while he spoke as if listening and perhaps even understanding.

Tektite having already met the land octopus pretty much ignored Saki. Instead the wisp drifted down curiously to move near Dio's legs, lightly touching them with little bits of it's own shadow stuff.

"Saki, isn't able to speak..." Rhys spoke softly not wanting to interrupt the two.

Once Dio finished speaking Saki moved again circling the two completely before stopping in front of Rhys tilting her head giving him an expectant look.

Chuckling slightly Rhys reached over to a nearby panel, palming it open he reached in taking out a fish shaped biscuit about the size of his hand. "Alright, you did a good job - we are going to go for a bit of a trip so you might want to go back to your room." Rhys spoke as if Saki could understand him completely and finally tossed the biscuit toward her; snaking a tentacle up Saki caught the biscuit deftly and then just as quickly she retreated to a nearby duct and disappeared.

"And that was Saki...she's pretty interesting. Lets get to the bridge, best to get this thing off the ground before we get stopped." Grinning faintly Rhys moved toward a nearby doorway motioning Dio to follow as he started toward the bridge, pausing he took a look at Dio's legs another moment before actually moving. "There is a console to the right," gesturing to a console on the bridge Rhys moved to the pilot's seat, "you'll be able to bring the star charts up - just ask Dos for the local charts."

Merci`
He was still till Tek moved a bit to the side, after all he didn't want to bump the wisp when he started walking. Dio loved to indulge the little wisps he encountered, after all they were just babies.

It was still amazingly strange that not only did he have legs, but he seemed to know how to use them with no issue at all. To his own surprise he was able to follow Rhys with no problems at all. One leg moved forward and then the other did, even his arms swung normally at his sides.

He paused when he entered the bridge, listening to Rhys when he spoke. Dio glanced at the control panels that his friend gestured too and he thought to himself. I hope this thing understands me, sometimes not being able to talk out loud is very annoying. He turned to the console and put his right hand on the edge of it, not entirely sure how he should tell it he wants the star maps. Cinder had a talking machine, Mycroft or something. Dio assumed that Dos worked the same way. 'Excuse me Dos? I need the local star charts and maps for this area please?'

I never hurt to be polite after all.

The fiend felt silly sending his thoughts toward a panel he wasn't sure could even understand him in the first place. Dio waited quietly for some sort of response.

Cinderfae
Rhys started the take off sequence quickly speaking off the various checks in his head as he did. He hadn't even considered the in ability to speak as being a problem for the Fiend, after all when he heard Dio he registered it as speech even if it was audible. Picking up on the end of Dio's thoughts Rhys glanced over toward the monitor.

"Ah...sorry about that," frowning Rhys hurried over toward the fiend, Tektite moved along at his heels pausing to slip between the cracks of the metal grates that make up the floor. "I'm not actually sure it'll be able to understand you...but we can try something. Savants have similar abilities and the newer starships...or at least the starships with newer additions have additions to them to allow the Savants to control by thought without a neural jack." Hitting a few spots on the screen the images upon it changed quickly and then a panel on the wall next to the console opened. "You'll need to put your hand on it...and well think at it. It might not work for you but no harm in trying." Rhys smiled shifting his gaze to Dio, taking a step back he gave the fiend what he hoped was a nod of encouragement.

Merci`
The fiend listened to Rhys and felt a little surge of guilt that he couldn't be a better accomplice. He lifted his right hand and moved it toward the new panel that appeared. Dio hesitated, glancing over toward the other boy, before he finally placed his hand where it indicated. 'I would like the local star charts and maps for this area of space please.' He hoped he sounded confident enough, and that the machines heard him.

Curiosity however was always something that lurked in the background, and he let his eye move over to Rhys again. 'What's a Savant? You mean the definition of a Savant? Someone who is extremely intelligent and good at something with no formal education? It sounded like you meant something completely different though.' His voice paused and then his brows furrowed, making wrinkles appear on his forehead, 'And what is a... Neural Jack?'

Cinderfae
It wasn't more then a moment that Dio directed his thoughts that local start charts started to pop up on the screen. The charts covered the nearby stars that were apparent and charted stars barely visible in the night sky as well.

Rhys paused a moment considering the question before speaking, "We use the term Savant as a title for a group of people. They learn deep meditations and focus on learning the ways of the universe. Those that continue down their paths long enough usually bond with hyperspace entities. Once they bond with their entities they can effect our space in fantastic ways..." pausing Rhys considered how to explain, "some can create fire, have telepathy, or make objects move without touching them. They do it by manipulating hyperspace which is right next to our own space." Rhys paused to concentrate a moment as he punched in a few commands in the computer, "Neural Jacks are what most pilots have added so they can directly interact with their ship. Cinder is part machine..." Rhys frowned slightly before shrugging, "They basically allow you to directly plug your ship into your brain - Savants' can't use Neutral Jacks because it disrupts their bond to their entity." Quickly Rhys finished the sequence and the ship slowly pulled itself up from the ground, "my father was a Savant..." pausing Rhys smiled and gestured outside, "and off we go...ready to go find your star?"

Merci`
Dio was amazed by the accuracy and responsiveness. He didn't actually think it would work for him, after all he wasn't sure what he and those like him really were. Whatever these Savants where, they could communicate like him, and it made him feel warm inside for some reason. He leaned forward and studied the scattering of dots and the names that corresponded with each one. He was sure they were names given to the stars, and not their actual names, because none of them sounded quite right.

He cocked his head to the side and then glanced toward Rhys. 'I don't really know where I'm going, you know? I hear the songs in my head but they don't make sense half the time. It's like I'm in a room with many individuals in it, and they are all talking to me at the same time. Except they aren't saying the same thing, and they are all trying to talk over each other. It's very frustrating.'

The fiend hoped that maybe if he was closer to one, somehow, he would be able to hear that one more clearly. Or maybe the others wouldn't be able to overpower the one he was near. Dio was pretty sure this wouldn't work the way he wanted it to, but it was worth a try.

After all, this was the season right?

Rhys was taking a big risk for him, and he would have to find a way to repay him somehow. 'Isn't the Cinder lady your mother? Cinder doesn't have wings like you right, so do Savants have wings like you do? I don't know who my parents are. I guess the closest thing I have to a father is the Athan man. Merci told me he found my stone, and gave it to her to raise me. Merci would be my mother I suppose, because she cares for me and buys me all the books I could want.'

He realized he was babbling again and not really giving Rhys time to answer him. Dio mentally chided himself. He wasn't a child anymore, he would have to try and control himself a little better.

Cinderfae
As they continued their conversation Rhys brought the Warhammer to full readiness for flight. "Here we go," glancing over at Dio he smiled slightly a touch of thrill in his voice. Out of the things he had tried and done before flying was one of his favorites. Taking advantage of Rhys distraction Tek scuttled between the plates on the floor working his way into the wiring his little shadowy tendrils snaking out curiously.

Rhys concentrated on flying for a moment letting the need of the ship give him time to consider his answer and feelings after Dio's question about his wings and parents.

He didn't realize it but Rhys pulled his wings more closely to himself before speaking. "Yeah - Cinder doesn't have wings...she's a normal human. At least she started out that way - my father was normal too." Frowning he shifted his gaze to the sky, "I wasn't born ... normally which is why Cinder didn't know about me until recently, I was created in a lab and they mixed my parents DNA with draconian DNA...so that's why I have wings ... it's not normal." Rhys cleared his throat attempting to push away some of the jumbled feelings associated with the whole thing before gesturing skyward, "we are getting higher just tell me if there is anyplace specific you want me to go." Taking a break from it's searching Tek pulled itself out from the paneling and shifted against Rhys leg, pausing the fiend rested comfortably as it experienced and attempted to process it's guardian's quiet distress.

Merci`
Dio couldn't help the excitement. They were going to be flying up in the sky. He would be in space, where they lived, and sang. The fiend stepped away from the controls he was standing next to. The forward panels of the Warhammer slid open, turning part of the room into an observation deck. Dio gasped at the sight, and moved his hand up to where his mouth would be.

They were out there, all of them.

Dio tore his eyes away from the scene just long enough to glance back at Rhys 'It's so beautiful. Isn't it beautiful? Can you hear them?' The song was there, just like it was at night. The crazy melody that all of them talking at once seemed to make up. Dio didn't know he was doing it but he started to hum along, giving voice to the music only he could hear

Cinderfae
Rhys' wings twitched slightly as he turned to look out toward the night sky, Tek noting all the excitement found his way up higher to get a look outside as well.

Smiling Rhys moved over to the fiend waiting a moment he gave Dio time to get comfortable. When the humming started Rhys smile widened a moment, "I can hear it now..." For a moment Rhys just rests his hand on Dio's shoulder. Tek drifted back and forth in time with Dio's humming his little shadowy tendrils flickering in excitement.

After a bit of waiting Rhys speaks again, "alright...so is there any specific direction you want to go in more?"

============================

Cinder stood in the foyer of the house a frown on her face, "Merci..." glancing back she looked to the door. "Things seem emptier then they should be."

Merci`
Dio moved his eyes from the night sky and he looked at Rhys. He turned and gave the other boy a hug, he was so overwhelmingly happy at the moment that it just seemed natural. 'Thank you, thank you so much. You have no idea how much this means to me.'

Just as suddenly as he hugged him, Dio was letting go. His body turned back to the stars in front of him and he shook his head. 'I can hear them all, but... but I think that... Can we go that way?' The fiend didn't use a chart, he just pointed off to the right. 'It seems... more concentrated... over there.' He didn't know how to describe the sensation. Something inside him just told him that he needed to go that way.

*****

Merci put down the shopping bags inside the front door and saw the remnants of Dio's decorations. Her brow furrowed and she cocked her ears to listen intently for a moment. "Cinder I think the boys are gone. I can't hear them in the house."

She was momentarily panicked. Merci, however, dealt with that feeling efficiently. "I'm going to check the house. Do you want to look in the guest house and maybe... I don't know the Warhammer and see if they are there?"

Cinderfae
Rhys returned the hug with a slight smile, his wings shifting uneasily he wasn't sure what to do with all the emotion and touching but attempted to hold up as well as he could. Glancing over toward where Dio was pointing Rhys nodded, "I can do that, just let me know if you need me to change directions or something."

While the others seemed to be distracted Tek, drifted along the floorboards until the found a panel with enough of an opening he could get inside. Once inside Tek started feeling about the circuitry. The little fiend would have likely gotten away with it for quite a while if Dos hadn't started to object.

"Intruder detected within the system...Intruder detected within the system..."

Rhys had moved back to the controls but paused frowning hearing the AI, quickly the boy switched the ship to manual overrides and spoke quickly with a bit of worry in his voice, "Dos please pinpoint the intruder."

Hearing the computer and Rhys voice Tek slunk out from the panel and moved back across the floor attempt to appear as nonchalant as a wisp could.

"We should be on the right course, if we get to where you were wanting or start to get too far let me know. I need to figure out what's wrong...Cinder won't take it very well if her ship is broken when we get back."
Rhys looked over the readout given by the ship and headed over to the panel in the wall and started to open it up.

=====================

With a slight frown Cinder nodded, "maybe they went to give Saki a snake or something..." turning she headed out onto the property and toward where the Warhammer was parked. Moving quickly it didn't take the long legged pilot long to get to the spot, pausing her frown turned to a scowl once she realized the ship was gone. "Hells..." cursing softly she turned and started back toward the house at a brisk stride just short of a run.

Merci`
Dio finally looked away from the expanse in front of him and tilted his head back to see what Rhys was doing. 'Is everything okay?' He walked back over to the panel that he was supposed to be manning and he placed his hand back on it. The teenager trusted the Rhys had things under control for the moment, if he needed help he would ask for it. Dio was about ready to talk to the panel again when it seemed to shift in response to his thoughts.

That was super handy!

Dio scanned the image and he canted his head to the side, like he was actively listening to something. The song was different up here, like they knew he was trying to find them. He stared at the screen and moved it, though what he was looking for was something that only he knew.

Merci started in the downstairs, looking in rooms quickly for any sign of the kids. She could see what Dio had actually managed to finish, and the decorations were actually quite nice. However at the moment she was completely distracted by the lack of life.

For such a full house it was incredibly empty.

She was halfway up the stairs before Cinder made it back to the house. Merci stopped and looked toward the door, her forehead creased with worry, "Did you find them?"

Cinderfae
Rhys peered inside the panel sliding a circuit board out and flipping it over, "yeah just a short...strange though Cinder just changed these," shrugging slightly he tossed the worn circuit to the side before pulling another from a nearby supply kit built into the wall.

Tek watched the discarded bit of electronic hit the floor and spend over to collect it. The little wisp wasn't able to really carry it very well but started to slowly drag it along the floor of the ship. Rhys catching sight of the fiend smiled a little and leaned down to pick it up, "not sure what you want it for but I'll carry it for you." Pocketing the circuit Rhys moved back to the controls, nodding slightly he looked over the charts before switching Dos back online to auto pilot to his coordinates.

"See anything yet?" Rhys turned slightly catching sight of Dio scrolling through the charts.

============================

Cinder paused and rested against the door, "no I didn't find them...but I also didn't find something else - the ship's gone." She'd thought over various scenarios at first she had considered that someone had taken the kids in the ship, but she couldn't figure out how they'd been able to hold onto Dio; that and there hadn't been any signs of a struggle at the house.

"I'm pretty sure they took it," gesturing to the stairs Cinder moved over and started up them, "lets get Mycroft, he'll be able to give us more information."

Merci`
Dio stared at the display intently, and he shook his head. He didn't want to say anything to Rhys but a little bit of a headache was starting to form behind his eyes. He'd probably been away from Merci longer then he should be, the women had been out shopping for a couple hours before he'd bumped into Rhys. It was distracting, but he wouldn't let it get in the way right now. He was so close, the layers of noise were different somehow.

He let out an extremely frustrated noise. 'I don't know, I was trying to see what was that direction. I wish I could find a way to explain what I can hear, it would make things easier.'

Dio removed his hand from the panel and lifted it up to his forehead, rubbing it in an unconscious attempt to stop the headache before it started. 'It's like a choir, but a really big one with hundreds of people in it. Every one of them is singing a different song, with a different rhythm and tempo, different pitch, different volume. Drowning each other out. If I don't try and concentrate it makes a sort of song all in itself, but when I try and single one out it becomes overpowered by the others. I'm starting to think it's impossible to hear just one.' He paused to see if that made any sense outside of his brain before he continued, 'It's changing though. It's always sounded the same from the house, but here it sounds different. I don't know if it's because they know what I'm trying to do.'

Dio heaved something similar to a sigh before he sheepishly added, 'I don't know how much longer I can be away from Merci. So can we go that way now?'

*****

Merci frowned and followed Cinder, "I thought that Mycroft was sorta needed in order to fly that thing. Am I wrong? How would they have managed without him?" The woman would never admit it out loud, but she had a horrible soft spot for the prim AI.

She assumed Rhys would be the one flying the ship, and she had no idea how experienced a pilot he was. "Cinder I'm worried. Dio's a teenager now true, but he still relies on me. If he's gone for too long I have no idea what kinds of things will happen to him." She couldn't keep the note of worry out of her tone as she spoke. Merci knew that they were linked, and was pretty sure bad for him meant bad for her.

Cinderfae
Rhys turned some listening to Dio, he wish he knew what to do to help the fiend but he didn't hear the stars as Dio did. Rhys dutifully looked over the charts attempting to tell if there were any abnormalities in the stars.

"Right, well I don't see anything on the scanner that might pinpoint the music." Frowning Rhys turned as Dio added the last bit, he hasn't really thought over how long they had been away and now he was starting to get worried.

"We'll head back now, if you want to come back out maybe another time with Merci`" their day of freedom Rhys realized wasn't going to be all that free and he didn't want to put Dio at risk.

Rhys started to run through the protocol to take the ship back toward home.

Tek slunk over toward Dio, the little wisp curled up against Dio's leg attempting to be comforting. The experience had gone from exciting to tense in not too long of a time.

========================

"Well Mycroft is usually on the ship when I fly it, but there is a back up AI on board in case of emergency...simply called dos. Dos isn't nearly as independent and doesn't have a personality like Mycroft does but he can fly the ship."

Cinder gave Merci a bit of a hug and headed into their room, "while once we get Mycroft up hopefully we'll be able to make contact with the ship."

Merci`
Dio looked up and he shook his head quickly, 'No no we're too close. Please I don't wanna go back I want see whats out here. We haven't had any time, I haven't had any time.' He leaned down and scooped up Tek in his right hand, cuddling him close to his chest. 'I'm just not sure how long I can be away from her. I'm not in pain or anything.'

Okay so he had a headache, but it wasn't that bad... Yet...

Dio took the steps over to put a hand on Rhys' shoulder. 'Please I've been trying my whole life to understand. This is the closest I've ever been.' It was worth the discomfort, the weakness that might come if he could just... understand.

Merci followed Cinder and leaned in the doorway. The pilot know what she was doing, all she could do was hope they weren't too far away. Part of her was honestly amused that this kind of thing could happen. Stealing a car was one thing, but a spaceship? She would have thought that they were a little more complicated, and harder to hijack.

Oh well.

Merci folded her arms, "You should probably do the talking. Because I'm not feeling very nice right now."

Cinderfae
Rhys looked over at Dio frowning slightly the boy sighed and looked back to the computer, he didn't want to upset him but from his bond with Tek he knew that things may start to go badly.

Before Rhys was able to really answer Cinder's voice came over speakers of the ship, "Rhys, Tek, Dio - are you there?" Her voice was firm and authoritative, the worry had been pushed away for the moment.

Glancing over at the controls and winced he knew he had to respond, clearing his throat he looked over to Dio, "we better take this."

Merci`
Dio winced when he heard Cinder's voice. He looked at Rhys and he had a pleading look on his face. Oh the fiend knew that the chances of him getting any further were probably slim to none, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to try. 'Please...' Dio trailed off and he pushed with his feelings, he wanted Rhys to feel the longing he felt to simply KNOW. To understand what he was, what he was supposed to do, how he was supposed to do it.

He wasn't a child anymore, he had some puzzle pieces. Those were all things given to him by Hawk, Mystic, Athan, Reyna, and the list just went on. No one could help Dio with this. No one could teach Dio about what was inside of himself, it was all him. He'd never done anything as reckless as this was, and if felt so wrong to just give in and go back now.

They were already in trouble after all, what was another ten or fifteen minutes really? His voice was really quite and he tried to make Rhys understand, 'No on can help me with this, please. I need this.' The pressure behind his eyes seemed pretty constant for the moment. He guessed he could probably push it just a little more before it became something to worry about.

*****

Merci walked up next to Cinder and she took the taller woman's hand. She was worried, but was determined to let Cinder handle this. It was her ship after all, and the one that could really pilot it was Rhys. Though she didn't doubt for a heartbeat that Dio was probably part of the bad influence that lead to them taking the Warhammer in the first place.

Cinderfae
Rhys winced slightly his wings flickering slightly looking between Dio and then the controls, with a sigh he reached over and flipped one of the controls, "she's going to be real mad we better answer soon. They are down at home and we are up here...so we'll go a bit further it's not like we'll be in more trouble then we already are." Despite his better judgment Rhys moved the ship in the direction that Dio had indicated.

Once the ship was moving Rhys flipped the comm so he could speak to Cinder, "Um...hello..." clearing his throat he glanced over to Dio as he spoke. "Yes we are here...and we're alright, should be home in not too much longer." Rhys figured that since they knew they had taken the ship it wouldn't hurt to try acting like it wasn't any big deal.

===================

Cinder paused and glanced to Merci without speaking into the communicator she considered a moment, "I'm not sure how I'm suppose to act - after all I did originally steal that ship as well." A slight smirk escaped onto Cinder's face...the kid was as ballsy as she was with his responses.
