As her warm nose touched one of the cool brown eggs, it wobbled lightly, moving closer to the source of warmth. The little creature inside could hear an odd voice. The same it had been aware of for days now. And it could feel the gentle heat at its side. It moved again, leaning closer to the mare.

"It looks like we've found our wriggler," Natsuhi said with a smile, nuzzling the egg again. It was the first time they had seen any of the eggs moving so much at one time. "Brajan, think we'll have a hatcher soon?" the mare asked with a small giggle, feeling very pleased. It would be nice to finally see one of their children come out.

"Hmmm," the stallion intoned softly as he stared at the trio. Soon to be a duo then. Moving forward slowly, he ducked his head, pressing his nose to the egg. The squirming stopped, once more in the presence of that somehow comforting heat. "What shall we do?"

Natsuhi looked up at Brajan curiously after his question. "What can we do? The foals should hatch on the own, yes?" she asked back, giving her mate a thoughtful look. "Do you think we should help?" Somehow the mare didn't think it had reached that point yet. Sure, the egg had been moving around a bit, but she hadn't seen any signs of the foal really attempting to get out. Not yet anyway.

Brajan heaved a soft sigh, shaking his head. "No." After all, hadn't he heard somewhere that breaking their own shell was detrimental to a foal's survival? Still, it unsettled him.
The little filly shifted again. It was cramped in here. Hurt her back. That was a strange feeling. The egg wiggled again as she pushed, straining against the smooth walls of her prison. No good. Steeling herself, she tried once more, her head raising as she pushed against the top as well. The shell gave, but only enough to crack. Bright. She pushed against it, a triangular chip falling away.

The navy mare let out a soft 'oh' and she both heard and saw the egg starting to crack. It looked like they were right to let her hatch on her own. Natsuhi smiled and gave Brajan a light lick on the cheek, watching the egg out of the corner of her eye. "Exciting, isn't it? Our first child."

"Mhmm." He stared on, entranced, his eyes never leaving the egg.
A hard push and the shell gave beneath the tiny nub of antler. A web appeared, the shell fragmenting as she pushed and strained against the confines. A hard shove and a wall came loose, depositing her on the grasses, gasping for breath.

Acting on instinct, the first thing Natsuhi did was check the filly over to make sure that she was alright. Once satisfied about her condition, the mare smiled a bit. "Welcome, Faolan," she greeted softly before beginning to clean off her daughter. She was so tiny! Had they really been that small once? It was hard to remember. Nevertheless, the navy mare was positively glowing (no pun intended) at the arrival of their first child.

Moving up beside, the stallion nuzzled the tiny creature gently. It squeaked its discontent, blinking goo and wet from its glowing eyes. "Incredible. She looks so much like you..." Spoken absently as he watched in wide-eyed wonder. Their daughter. He cast a glance to the remaining eggs.

Natsuhi smiled at her mate. "She looks like you as well. She has your color and stripes, see?" There was certainly no denying that this was their child, characteristics of both parents being quite obvious in her. The mare continued her grooming, despite her complaining squeaks. The child would be less comfortable later if she were to remain sticky. "Faolan dear, can you understand us?"

Faolan looked up at her mother at the words - then immediately bit and nipped at her nose.
"I might take that as a 'no.'" Sighing, he gazed at Natsuhi. "I think she might be hungry."

"Itai~..." Natsuhi murmured, pulling her nose out of her daughter's reach. She looked over at Brajan questioningly at his suggestion. "She's sitting in grass. If she were hungry would she not just eat?" The mare wasn't exactly aware of the fact that foals drank milk unless they had no other choice.

Brajan rolled his eyes skyward, considering. "I don't know that she has teeth to graze with. Have you seen small kits at their mother?"

The mare gave a small chuckle."Oh, she definitely has a few teeth. But, um, no, I can't say that I have. Is there something that I'm missing?" she questioned innocently. Natsuhi only remembered eating grass herself, but then again she had been on her own after hatching. Perhaps there was something else newborns were supposed to eat instead.

"They... erm- they feed at their mother's bellies. You're still a little swollen? For a few days, at least, she'll drink from you/" The stallions cheeks heated dangerously beneath the brown. It was difficult to say it, though he had seen foals nurse before. Made it no less simple (or embarassing) to explain to his mate.
