Who DOESN'T like kids? Really. They're like nifty collectable cards or something, considering how addictive they get after a while. I'm saying that in the most...meaningful way possible. It's true, though! Each of them is unique, rare, and beautiful in their own special way.

...there is that whole issue of them growing up and eventually leaving, but I don't think I'll have to fret over that for QUITE a while.

But anyways, when I saw the opportunity to recieve a new addition into the family, I immediately seized it. And, as usual, I had NO idea what I was getting myself into.

It all started with a day's walking around town with Alex, going nowhere special. We ate lunch at a regular hole-in-the-wall, then just strolled. All was wonderful; that is, plain and boring, until I saw the building. It was the complex of the Maban Mabyswiad clinic, and the moment I laid eyes on it and the sign announcing what it was, I was intruigued.

"Hey, Alexander. What do you think about having a new brother or sister? Wouldn't that be fun? Someone to play with, teach, watch over... you could really get something out of the experience!"

The boy grunted in response, absently wondering where Raven was today.

OHBROTHER.

I rolled my eyes, wondering why I'd asked him in the first place, and made the decision to investigate this shop of sorts. It wouldn't hurt to see what they had to say, right?

Alex waited outside while I entered the building, my curiousity forever captured. Recieving the children of other mothers who couldn't handle motherhood, hm? GENIUS! And so environmentally friendly, too!

Without even realizing it, I was suddenly filling out the forms and applications to becoming a surrogate mother without paying much attention to them at all, simply eager to discover just what this clinic had to offer. Mindlessly I checked off preferences and whatnot about the mother of the child I wanted, signed away and initialed at every dotted line I could fine.

Never even saw an option for 'strange gypsy girl', and even if I did, I probably wouldn't have remembered, anyway. Wasting ink was all I was doing.

And oh, when this little basketcase appeared on my doorstep a few weeks later, pregnant-belly and all, how I regretted my previous actions so.

____God help me.

And so, this strange gypsy girl, pregnant and all, invited herself in and made her home mine. There wasn't much I could do, even if I wanted to. Afterall, she IS the one carrying the child I'm to foster. It won't be too long, anyways, and she's got the big-a** belly to prove it.

She goes by Calypso. It's a name I'll likely never forget.

"EVAAAAAAA!!! ICE CREAM NOW PLEASE!!" The familiar screech/command echoed throughout the apartment, awakening me from my nap quite startled. I swear to God, between Alex rhomping around playing with his new 'sword', Spike's incessent whining to go outside AND NOW THIS STRANGE WOMAN, I will NEVER GET A DAY OF PEACE AGAIN.

Hesitantly and groggily, I rose from my bed and moved to the kitchen. I took out a plastic, disposable bowl from the cupboard and opened the freezer, took out a carton of vanilla ice cream, and filled the handy container with a few scoops. Afterwards, I strode out into the living room to find sitting on the floor, her eyes transfixed on the television. Apparently, there was some strange sort of psychic infomercial on, and she couldn't have been more interested.

"Here, your highness." I sneered, my voice dripping with sarcasm as I handed her the bowl. The girl took her attention off of the screen for a moment and warmly accepted the ice cream, chanted some bizzare "ritual" to keep evil spirits away while she wallowed in indulgence, and dug in.

It was only seconds afterwards she'd finished the cold treat. "More, please?" She peered back up at me, her lower lip protruding from her mouth in a pout. I frowned in response, and walked away, intent on regaining my lost sleep-time. "Get it yourself! Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you're a goddess!"

"I beg to dif"

"SILENCE!!!" I slammed the door of my bedroom shut and hid under the covers of my bed, praying the thick comforter would be enough to muffle the sounds of the young gypsy's whines. Either way, I fell asleep immediately.

I'd need all the energy I could get for the coming month.

____OMGSHOPPINGYAY!!!

I decided I needed to go get some new things for the new baby's room today. Calypso didn't come to the store with me, as she was too busy rearranging the furniture in the living room AND in my bedroom to 'ward off evil spirits'.

NO ONE. I repeat. NO ONE goes in my room uninvited. I THOUGHT I made that clear to her when I laid down the house rules on like, the first day she came here.

But I still allowed her to have her way with the ONE shred of personal property I have in the house. She MIGHT do something good with the space, and she'd be out of the house soon. YES, yes she would. So I could just rearrange everything and pretend she never exsisted.

There was the whole matter about her BABY...

Oh well. I'd deal with that when I had to.

Bidding her a hasty adieu, I quickly headed outside and onto the streets. I reached my destination in no time at all; a baby store placed strategically on the corner.

A bell above merrily declared my entrance with a few friendly rings when I opened the door and stepped inside. Cribs were lined against the far wall as strollers did the opposite, and in the middle of the large room several isles stood looming above me, packed with small plushies, bottles, and other various plastic playthings. Awestruck, as I'd bever been even close to such a store, much less inside of one, I stumbled along the seemingly endless isles, hardly paying attention to what I was looking at.

I was just lucky I wasn't claustrophobic.

"HI HOW CAN I HELP YOU WELCOME TO BABY'S ROOM YEAH!"

An obnoxiously cheerful voice brought me out of my daze. I swiveled around, only to lay eyes on this really overweight woman with frizzy, chin-length hair donning the uniform of the store.

"...I need...baby stuff?"

"WELL YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE YEP. ...You're pregnant?"

I looked down. Nope. No bulge. What was I gonna tell her? 'OH YEAH WELL THERE'S THIS GYPSY ON CRACK WHO'S INVITED HERSELF OVER MY HOUSE AND IS GOING TO STAY THERE UNTIL SHE HAS HER BABY THENNN~ It'lll be mine. Then, I'll have a baby.'

Yeah. REAL believable.

"Oh, well, I'm still early-on. I just want to be prepared." Came my lame reply. She bought it, and for the next hour, dragged me through the store, loading various blankets, toys, and bottles into my reluctantly outstretched arms.

When I finally managed to escape the prison of 'The Baby Room', several bags weighed down both of my arms.

This was gonna hurt DAMN bad tomorrow.

Both my arms and my wallet, that is.

Feather's Log

I've got to make dinner in a few minutes, so I'll keep this brief.Calypso's in bed now, as she has been for the past few days. She complains she's very tired and feels like she has the flu, which I suppose is natural for future mothers at the end of their pregnancy. I hope she gets well soon... even if she has been nothing short of a pain in the a** through the time she's spent here, she's always been cheerful and enthusiastic.

I've also set up the baby's room next to my own, converted from an old storage room. It's got a theme of light purples and blues, so no matter the gender the baby is, their room will still suit them. Alex helped, of course. Trust me, his wings came in REAL handy when it came to painting those cute little baby seals on the ceiling.

Speaking of Alex... it seems he's whining for me to come make dinner; so I'll close and be on my merry way.

Sincerely,
Feather

Feather's Log

It seems Calypso's gotten better over the past few days, but she still insists on being locked up in her room. I leave her meals by the door and she APPARENTLY takes them, seeing as I always pick up a stack of polished dishes beside the doorframe the next morning. Maybe she's trying to compose herself and spend some alone time before she gives birth, or something.

Once in a while I lean up against the door and press my ear to it, and I can hear her talking. To what or whom, I'm not sure, but she's always screaming "THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!!!" and never gets anything in response. So, uh, yeah, not quite sure what that's about.

I'm thinking of sending Alex in there tomorrow to find out what's going on; if she's actually talking to someone, or if she's just as insane as I've always thought her to be.

Friday, December 9th

"Er... miss Calypso? My mom wanted me to check up on you." Alex pushed open the door to Calypso's room quietly, and stepped inside.

It was a brisk Saturday morning in Barton, and the Kalikova household was quiet.

...TOO quiet. And Feather was getting sick of it. Too much of a good thing apparently WAS a bad thing. So, she kept her word to herself and made Alexander go check and see just what the deal was with Calypso.

Alex blinked for a few moments upon entering the room, his eyes struggling to adjust to the darkness. Even though he was part-falcon and posessed above-human seeing abilities, he still had a hard time seeing a few feet in front of him.

This wasn't normal darkness; no, it was ADVANCED darkness.

Alexander stumbled forward, crashing into the base of what felt like Calypso's four-posted bed. He fell over, his upper half collapsing on the end of the bed while his feet still remained on the ground.

"Hello?!" He called, sounding somewhat urgent. This was creepy even for him.

"...ugh..." The reply came moments later, if that's what you'd even call it. The voice definetly belonged to Calypso, even if it did sound extremely distorted and weak. She was bedridden. "I can't... can't take this anymore... "

The entire atmosphere of the room chilled significantly, and Alex felt as if there were someone else in the room. He straighened up, lifting himself off of the bed. Maybe it'd just be better to listen than to talk or move, he thought.

"It'll continue my legacy whether you like it or not, no matter what you do with this baby to try and get rid of it." A different voice rang through the darkness; a darker, more manly voice, but it sounded... ghostly? Alex didn't quite know how to describe it. He listened closer, holding his breath for extended periods of time to stay hidden.

"Eva knows NOTHING about the gypsy lifestyle. She'll raise this baby as a normal child and the little one will grow up without having ANYTHING to do with you, OR me. I have total confidence in her, and the Maban clinic.

It's perfectly foolproof, and without me in the vicinity, you'll never be able to return to the world of the living once the baby's been born and I'm gone! You'll never get your hands on my child, EVER. Now just... LEAVE ME! "

The room began to return to regular temperature, and Alex could sense the male Calypso'd been arguing with dissapeared. The darkness remained, however.

What was going ON? Was that Calypso's old boyfriend, or something? The one who inpregnated her in the first place? Alex's mind reeled. He stumbled out of the room and shut the door gently, leaning outside the doorwall to catch his breath and collect his thoughts.

Then, he tracked down his mother. When he did, he told her the entire story of what happened in those few minutes that elapsed. Feather followed him to the door of Calypso's bedroom, and the both of them leaned their ears against the door to see if there was anything else to hear.

Silence, and the occasional sigh of agony from Calypso's part.

"What's going on, mom?" Alex peered up at her, curious.

"We'll just have to wait and see, Alex. But... I think when she finally emerges from the darkness, she won't be by herself."

"Hm?"

Feather smiled weakly at Alex, "You'll find out. By the way, I suggest you get as much sleep as you can. You won't be allowed the luxury for much longer."

Skylar comes out of the darkness!

Friday, January 13th

The day seemed to start out like any other. Sorta.

I was still wildly curious about the whole incident involving Calypso and that mysterious guy who'd apparently been with her a few nights before, so as soon as I woke up this particular morning, I went to go check on her.

Alex was still asleep, mumbling something about Eden and a sword, so I took the liberty of going by myself. Slowly, I pushed open the door of the pregnant gypsy's bedroom, expecting the same darkness that flooded that area for weeks.

Boy, was I wrong.

Blinding light poured into the hallway as soon as I opened the door. It's obvious source lay within the room, but I was completely dumbfounded as to what could be causing it. Out of instinct I shielded my eyes with my forearm and stumbled backwards, hoping the light would fade or my eyes could adjust sooner than later.

The brightness never halted, as it turns out, though my eyes managed to adjust after a few minutes. Squinting, I stepped into the room.

"C-Calypso?" I called out, running my hands along her four-poster as I struggled to find my way.

Silence.

"You here?" I tried again.

More silence. I moved up to the head of the bed, and ran my hand across the pillows.

...nothing...?

Dumbfounded, I moved to sit on the bed to think this over. I'd almost plopped down on the mattress when I'd realized something -or someone- was already sitting in the middle of it.

I could hear giggles, followed by a strange gurgling noise.

"Huh...?" I blindly reached around in front of me, and my hands felt strange fine blonde threads.

Hair?

My hands slid downward, and I felt a warm face, two small shoulders, and a tiny body. It was a baby?!

The light vanished all at once, and there sat the newborn child, laughing and cheering in my arms.

Enter Skylar.
