Ah, so he didn't like them young. She mentally crossed Inaari off her list. Perhaps when they were old, but they might have dragons by then and that tended to complicate relationships just a tad. Nandeli frowned slightly when Sovann insisted that Okassis was just like a brother to him, not wanting to buy that explanation in the slightest. There was the slight possibility that it was true, and if that was the case then she couldn't force the issue. It would be like trying to hook her and her half-brother up.

"Yeah well, romance is all in the way you handle it. She certainly stopped choking after you kissed her, didn't she?" Nandeli pointed out as though it was obvious the kiss had had some sort of magical effect on the girl involved. "Clearly you must have been at least decent to get that kind of reaction from her. Still, it was only a kiss on the cheek…"

"She stopped choking when I gave her the tea," Sovann returned, rolling his eyes. "Honestly, don't you have anything better to do than wonder about my romantic prospects?" And of course he was decent! What, had she expected him to be a bad kisser, even without experience to help him? "Maybe she was so startled that I had dared to kiss her that she responded that way. Ever think of that?" Of course not. Why think of the logical, simple answers when there were complex illogical ones? Leaning slightly against the counter, he crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. "What about you? Is there romance in your life Nan?" Maybe if he directed the topic of conversation onto her she'd cease being interested in discussing his (non-existent) love life.

She paused dramatically to consider her question, before beaming at him. "No, not really. Besides, you should be flattered that I've taken interest in you. It means you have potential for being interesting! And you're cute. Not too many people get my undivided attention for this long, you know." Obviously he was meant to feel special by that. How special was up to him. At the mention of her simply being surprised she pshaw-ed. That was far too logical an answer. Besides, didn't he think it was more fun to believe the girl actually liked him?

His question directed towards her own love life made her raise her eyebrows, and she leaned in closer to the counter, mimicking his actions. "What about me? Are you really interested in my love life? Or are you just trying to make me forget about you?" Nandeli batted her eyelashes at him teasingly.

Sovann could've screamed. "... Yes, of course. I'm terribly interested in your love life," he said dryly, flicking a bit of tuber skin off of his tunic. "There is nothing more fascinating or more enthralling, of course." No, really. He was trying to make her forget about him. "I never thought I'd feel flattered to be on the receiving end of so many questions." And he still wasn't feeling flattered. Irritated a little, maybe, but not flattered. "Cute. Is that the best you can come up with, Nan?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow, the faintest trace of a smile on his lips. "What sort of interesting would you say I have the potential to be? I should at least know what it involves before you decide to 'cultivate' me. That's what you're doing, isn't it? Trying to find ways to make my love life into something that appeals to you."

"Is that so?" Nandeli had to resist the urge to laugh, doing her best to keep her expression somewhere between mildly interested and disbelief. It was proving to be very difficult. "I can't imagine why such an innocent little Holder boy like you could possibly be interested in the goings on of Weyrfolk like myself." Much like his friend Okassis, Nan wasn't the type who talked about her own business without a lot of prompting. Everybody else's business was fair game, but since she spent so much time gathering information she didn't exactly have much time for herself. But that was okay. Other people's lives were always much more exciting.

Aaw, was that a little smile? Nan tilted her head to the side as though studying him, before she said, "You know, you would look a lot cuter if you stopped frowning and really smiled. You look like the type who's got dimples." She was quite jealous of those dimply smiles. It made the people who had them look so much cuter. "And I think you don't give me enough credit, Sovann. Matchmaking isn't always about who I think would go well together. It's also about giving people like you, who have no idea what they're doing, direction and choice. Seeing as you won't even kiss a girl without serious prompting… I would say you need a little help."

"Holder boy..." Sovann said flatly, something flaring in his eyes. "I'm not a Holder boy. Not like Inaari is a Holder girl." The smile thinned out until his lips were pressed tightly together. "But then again, I suppose a Weyrbrat like you wouldn't know the difference, would you Nan?" There was the mischief again. It glimmered in his hazel eyes, bringing out the green in them like a warning signal. "Oh so you're trying to teach me how to be cuter now, hmm? I'm a lost cause, Nandeli. Innocent, like you said, unwise in the ways of flirtation. I don't think I'm going to wise up anytime soon, so why don't you focus on something a little less... hopeless?" He leaned forward, the grin back in full force, and quickly becoming a smirk. It showed off the single dimple to advantage, just like she'd promised. He took a step forward. "It seems to me that you're not interested in me for personal reasons, Nan. Should I be disappointed?" That playful glint was alive and kicking, probably because she reminded him very much of his closest friend.

Nandeli simply shrugged, still grinning. "Not really. If you're not a Holder boy like Inaari is a Holder girl and you're not a Weyrbrat like me, then I don't exactly know where to put you. Do you get your own little category to yourself? Little innocent fisher boy?" On Ista it was always safe to assume someone was from a fishing family. Living on an island made water-related professions quite common.

Interested to see how far he would take this, she leaned in closer as well, grin turning incredibly cheeky. "I don't know… I'm not sure I'd call you completely hopeless. You've got this little dimple here that makes you absolutely adorable." She reached up and pinched his cheek playfully. "And innocence can always be gradually worn away. You are at a Weyr, you know. The place of debauchery and men of great sexual prowess." Nandeli couldn't resist waggling her eyebrows at him.

At his final question she propped her elbow up on the counter and leaned her face against her hand. "Hmmm… Why would you think that?"

"Why would I think that? Because you haven't in all of this time given so much as an indication to the contrary." Sovann decided that her touching was permission enough to play along, and he reached out a hand, flicking a thumb over her lower lip. "Oh, I'm innocent enough... and I'm sure that you'd just love to watch all of that debauchery getting to me... those men of sexual prowess having their way with me. But, you know what?" He leaned forward, tilting her chin up slightly, and resting a hand at the back of her neck. "You won't get the chance." He kissed her, really kissed her, just to see how she would react. He'd never kissed anyone like that before, but it didn't matter. He wasn't in this to impress her. He was in it to play her game. If he could beat her at her own game, well... that'd be something. Unfortunately, Nandeli was an excellent player, and he wasn't sure he had all of the right skills for this game. When he was quite certain that he had proven how very manly he truly was, he stepped back, and grinned slightly. "I guess you're right though... I'm not completely hopeless."

He was most certainly brave, Nan would give him that. Vaguely she remembered Inaari saying something about him being charming in private, and now she could see where that was coming from. It was a pity he hadn't been this charming at the Klah-Off with that poor girl he'd kissed. Apparently the kitchen atmosphere, where the majority of the people were busy doing real work, seemed to make life easier for him.

"What?" she repeated dutifully, only to have her question answered in a very surprising way. Truthfully she would have never expected Sovann to kiss her. The fact that he could barely kiss Nelioa at the Klah-Off had led her to believe that he was one of those Holder types who would sooner die than take off their shirt in public. Maybe he hadn't been lying about the whole fish oil smell because there was definitely nothing wrong with the way he kissed girls. In fact, she might even have gone so far as to say he was pretty good at it.

But that didn't mean he would get out of this scot-free. When they separated she hummed softly, twirling a curl around her finger. "I guess not… if not completely hopeless means you kiss like a girl." She grinned impishly.

"Better to kiss like a girl than to look like one," Sovann quipped, waggling a finger at Nan. "Are you finished asking about my love life, Nan? Or did you want to explore it in depth?" She really was like a female Okassis, wasn't she? ... That was sort of a disgusting thought. He didn't want to think about the girl he had just kissed that way. Ah well. Maybe he could manage to actually like her rather than loathing her for the wicked tricks that she played. "In the Weyr there's a girl named Nan, who tells all the lies that she can. If you've got some business, she'll be a witness. Your 'mates will know all that you plan." He'd come up with the little poem after he'd been particular irritated with her, but now seemed as good a time as any. "Any more surprises for me today?"

Nandeli couldn't help but laugh at his reply. "Well, you know what they say about boys that kiss like girls~" And if he didn't, well, she didn't either. But she could always make something up on the spot about them being destined for really horny greens or something equally embarrassing. It really was a pity that he'd kissed her first. She had thought it would have made him blush. Ah well. She would try new tactics another day.

Her eyes lit up at his poem and she could only grin wider. She had a poem! Hooray! While it wasn't a song, nobody had ever wrote anything about her before. It was almost flattering, in a way. "Truer words have never been spoken," Nan said, still grinning. "But I'm afraid our interview has to be cut short. I do have lots and lots of tubers to peel, sadly, though I shall be very unhappy to part from your adorable company, little fisher boy." She wiggled her fingers at him in a goodbye, and turned to head back towards her tubers.

"Say hi to Okassis for me!" she called over her shoulder, "And if he asks you if you'd like to go 'exploring' with him, make sure you say yes!" Giggling to herself, she hurried back to her tuber peeling circle.

"I'll be sure to send Okassis your regards." Oh by the first Egg, he was saved! Sovann cocked his head to the side, quirking an eyebrow at Nan. "Please, don't linger on my account," he sent after her, somewhat relieved that the interview was now over. Exploring with Okassis, huh? Just what exactly was would these explorations involve? He shuddered to think of it. It had been an intriguing conversation to be sure, but he was left wondering about her motives. Was this the sort of game she played on a regular basis? It seemed as though she had singled out lads like him before, and she appeared to be more than a little interested in his inclinations. Were all weyrbrats like her? Did the girls want to see young men like him with other men? He shook his head again and turned back to his kitchen duties.
