The suggested was definitely an interesting one. Kiriwar's eyebrows rose, before he grinned and moved to turn around, crossing his arms over his chest. "This definitely should be interesting... but easy. I'm good with flavors," he explained, rolling his muscled shoulders a little. They were a bit sore from carrying the barrel. "I'm a Taster -- testing wines, finding the flavors, the age, the make..."

Good. That would make this a challenge, wouldn't it? Sovann loved challenges. "Easy, hmm? Well, we'll just see. I seem to recall that you couldn't determine what was in the klah the last time, oh Taster, so we'll find out whether you're full of it, or if you're really as good as you say." Reaching into the little box which the spices were kept in, he added a couple of them to the basic brew, which was strong enough to conceal some flavors. He was very careful about what he chose, however. The tastes needed to go well together since this wasn't a pranked pot of klah. Finally, he finished off the pot with a hint of honey, and carefully put everything away, stirring the klah to allow the flavor to even out. "All right, you can turn around, and pour yourself a mug. Then I want you to tell me what's in it."

Kiriwar laughed, almost glancing over his shoulder, but catching himself, settling on just shaking his head. "I was never asked what was in the klah, which is why I could not say," he said simply. When he was told to turn around, he do so, grinning broadly and moving forward to pour himself a mug-full. Before he took a drink, he lifted it to take in a deep breath, humming quietly afterward. "I definitely smell the vanilla, and anise. And honey? Yes, that's honey..."

He trailed off, lifting the mug to his lips to take a careful sip, moving the liquid around in his mouth as he carefully tested it. Finally, he swallowed it, saying, "There was cardamom there, and red-fruit... The anise was stronger in the taste. Overall, rather nice."

... The man was unnatural! Sovann stared at Kiriwar for a moment, and blinked. And blinked again. "By the Golden Egg of Faranth, how did you do that?" he gawped, honestly amazed. He had tried to be subtle with his ingredients, but obviously the vintner was more than a match for his skills. "Ah well. I tried. I failed, but I tried. You win. I guess you really are that skillful." It was fardling amazing. Was the man even human? "All right. I suppose now that you've won, you probably ought to get some kind of prize. Even Inaari got a prize. How about a mug of klah?" he asked, grinning impishly. Of course, he had already given the man a mug, which would satisfy the need for a prize, wouldn't it?

At Sovann's reaction, Kiriwar could only grin, taking another drink from his mug of klah and looking very pleased with himself. "I've studied hard... plus, it's something of a natural talent. I've always been able to taste spices and whatnot in food, and doing it in drinks is no different. And I already have a mug, you tease!" he said, laughing happily and setting his mug down, giving the other a playful look. "I think I deserve an extra prize."

"Are you trying to imply that my klah is not a prize in and of itself?" Sovann questioned, giving Kiriwar a patently false hurt expression. "Stabbed, straight through the heart! You wine tasters are far above my touch," he sniffed, and then grinned broadly. "What sort of prize do you think you've earned?" he asked, concealing the way his hands trembled by holding onto the counter. He would've taken a mug of klah himself, but given that he'd already destroyed an entire pot full of it, he decided that it was safer to abstain for now. Maybe later on he'd indulge... but not when the cooks might be watching his every move, for all that he knew.

Kiriwar laughed at Sovann's words, grinning broadly and shaking his head. "Oh, I'm not sure about a prize... How about you surprise me?" he asked, giving the other a charming smile and picking up his mug of klah for another quick drink. He could feel some sort of nervousness coming from the other boy still... Was he doing something wrong? He hoped not.

Oh honestly! A prize, hmm? Well, Sovann couldn't think of anything right now. "Well, that's hardly fair. I barely know you. How can I possibly properly surprise you?" By being totally random, of course, but that didn't seem all that fun. He would have to think about what sort of prize he wanted to give Kiriwar. Perhaps a glass of wine? Wouldn't that be ironic? But alas, he didn't know how to make wine, and he probably would never learn.

"You have plenty of time! I'm not expecting it now," said Kiriwar with a laugh, sipping at the klah once more -- it really was rather delicious. " Just within a reasonable amount of time. Not when I'm, like, 40 Turns or something ridiculous." He chuckled, setting down the mug and settling in his chair casually now, clearly more relaxed around the other. "Surprise me, with anything."

"Awwww! You mean I can't wait until you're 40 turns old?" Sovann pouted a little, the expression habitually associated with the sentiment. Of course, he also forgot about it in the next moment, reaching over to grab himself a mug of klah. "Mmm..." It was good klah, scorch it. "I'll come up with something eventually, and I guarantee it will be a surprise." Oh yes, yes it certainly would be. Asking Sovann for a surprise gift was asking for trouble in a pretty serious way. Ah well. Kiriwar didn't know any better.

Kiriwar laughed and gently elbowed Sovann, though certainly not too hard. It would be awful if he dropped another mug of klah. "Just nothing that can damage me, or potentially scar me for life, you know?" he said, flashing a charming grin now. "Be gentle, I'm a softie." He finished off his klah, humming happily. "But, damn, Sovann... you make a good klah, you know that? A shame that first pot was dropped..."
PostPosted: Mon May 04, 2009 9:54 am

"Eehhhh..." Sovann grinned a little. "This one is better anyway. The other one wasn't fancy, see?" Oh ho! So that was how they were going to play things, was it? The grin broadened, and the seaholder elbowed the vintner right back. "I know I do. I'm actually pretty decent at this whole cooking thing. I'm thinking that if I don't Impress I'll look into it. It might be fun to be an apprentice cook." Elbow, elbow. Kiriwar was a softie, huh? Well, that just might be fun to exploit. "No promises on the scarring!"

Kiriwar was surprised at how easily Sovann responded to being elbowed, grinning and elbowing the other again each time. He grew up with brothers -- rough-housing was no big deal to him, especially if it was playful. He doubted he would get into a beat-down with Sovann. "Are you? Yeah, I think you'd do well with it. I plan on sticking with being a Vintner, if it doesn't work out for me. And no promises? How terrible! I'm worried now."
