Climbing up after Inaari was somewhat difficult while Sovann was holding the bowl, but he managed. She was not precisely unburdened herself, carrying the egg as she was. When he reached her side, Sovann raised an eyebrow. "You think I'm going to bring anyone up here? Really, 'Naari, I've got better things to do than betray your trust." He held the bowl in his hands, eyes lingering on egg, which... was it hatching? "... Inaari, look!" Cracks were appearing on the mottled surface of the egg, each one of them ramping up his excitement. "Inaari, quick! Here, grab some meat. It'll be hungry, for sure!" Oh Shells, she had to feed the 'lizard. The last thing he wanted to happen was for him to accidentally Impress her Naming Day gift!

Blinking owlishly for a moment at the quick transition in both topic and tone, Inaari soon felt the movement in her own hands, and stared down at it in surprise, her mouth a soft circle. Carefully placing the egg and its basin of warm sand carefully in front of her, the young teen wasted no time in gathering several strips of juicy raw herdbeast into her fingers.
"I hope it likes me...." Was the only thing she said, voice strung tight with nerves and wistfulness. If she couldn't even Impress something so easy as a firelizard, she'd absolutely have no place here at the Weyr. That alone would break her heart. Bending over the egg, she tried as hard as she could to put herself in front of Sovann, making sure it saw nothing but her and the juicy meat.
Crooning softly at the cracks, it took everything she had not to touch the egg, until a small green head popped out with a plaintive mewl. Glowing like the sunrise, the pale blond held out a strip of meat to the little creature to urge it to move from its warm home into the world. Taking it gratefully, the little dragon cousin looked expectantly for more, and Inaari was more than happy to feed it, holding each piece higher, and farther back, until the critter was latched firmly to her arm.
"Sovann, am I doing ok?!" It tumbled out in a rush. Turning so as not to dislodge the hungry little green, the flushed and pleased Holder could only beam at her friend. "Don't you see what a pretty thing she is?"

"You're doing just fine." It was incredibly hard to keep up his strong front when the little girl was cooing and glowing over her new green friend. "Well, isn't she a beauty," Sovann remarked, grinning and peering over his shorter friend's shoulder. "Here, feed her some more. That's the ticket... she seems to be calming some. Must not be as hungry as she was just coming out of the egg. Shhh shhh little creature, you're in good hands." She turned to look at him, and it was all he could do to keep from beaming at her. Oh, that was utterly heart warming. Scorch it. He was above such silly shows of emotion. ... Wasn't he? No. No, he really wasn't. Ah well. Seemed like his father hadn't been right about everything, after all. Carefully, he deposited a morsel of meat in Inaari's hand for the newly Impressed firelizard.

"If this is what it feels like for such a small dragon to Impress on you, I can't imagine what the real ones feel like." Her eyes had gone soft and misty, a maternal look in them. Odd for one so young, but somehow entirely fitting on Inaari's face. Blinking back the tears, she looked back up at her very kind friend. "Thank you so much Sovann, this really is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me."
Blushing softly, stroking her new darling with one finger, the teen girl did something she'd never done with anyone but family. Reaching up on tiptoe, she planted a shy, but heartfelt kiss on the boy's tanned cheek. Snatching up another piece of meat, she backed up quickly, pink still staining her cheeks as the newborn fed.
"I wonder what her name should be."

Sovann, who was not at all used to that kind of attention, turned some rather astounding shades of red before his skin settled back to its usual dark tan. Gruffly, he patted her on the shoulder, and turned his attention to the small firelizard. "She's really tiny, isn't she? Honestly, I'm not much good with names and that sort of thing. I'm sure you can up with something." She had better be able to come up with a name for her flitt! He sure wasn't going to be much help. How exactly did he explain why he had gifted her with the egg? It wasn't love, or anything like that, at least not of a romantic nature. She was a sweet girl but at times, he felt very much as though she was frightened or perhaps intimidated by the Weyr and its denizens. She'd been so adorably proud over the Klah-Off victory, and so excited to be turning 14. Back at home when he had had no friends besides Okassis to share with, he had not given out gifts very often. Really, buying the firelizard had been an impulsive decision, one which he might not have made if he hadn't felt the tugging of a new loyalty, and if he hadn't thought she'd needed to be reassured. "Oh this?" he said, gesturing to the flitt. "Don't worry about it."
