Setsushi nods slowly, absorbing Jilan's thoughts and reflecting on them. At his question, though, he seemed quite shocked. Of course Setsushi does not think Jilan is a traitor! ... Nevermind that Setsushi is not sure what entity Jilan was affiliated with in the first place that he is even able to betray...
Well...
No, nevermind.
Setsushi instead repeats his assurance that Jilan is not a traitor in the Knight's eyes. If Shuuken has snapped at him, well, Setsushi knows from experience that she will probably forgive him in two seconds, then hate him again later -- that is that child's temperament, not Jilan's doing. sweatdrop
... Though Setsushi is curious who this divisive Jin person is?
A kettle Setsushi had begun warming starts to whistle, and he rushes to fetch cups. What did Jilan want to drink, again?

The boy nods, but still seems unsettled. He closes Setsushi's history book and slides it across the table, and picks up his journal to fidget with the end of the ribbon marker instead.
When the kettle whistles, he jumps a little, and tells the Knight that tea is fine.
As for Jin... Jin was the one who took care of Jilan when he first found himself in the Silver World, when he got there by accident or whatever. Thinking back, other Porcelain treated Jin as a woman, but by hir clothing and such, Jilan was never sure if sie really was or not, and had not asked because he was afraid of being rude.
Jilan hugs his journal to his chest and leans back in the chair. Jin mostly left the little scholar to his own devices, though sie sometimes disappeared for long periods of time. To work in the palace with the Silver Empress, he was told.
For the last three years, though, Jilan saw neither hide nor hair of Jin. Though apparently Princess Shuuken did - Jin had been trying to kill Princess's Sorcerer friend....

Setsushi turns halfway towards Jilan from the skin, his expression one of profound confusion and mild alarm. ... A mysterious man-woman who took Jilan in and then tried to kill Shuuken's friend...!?
... Well, that certainly sounds different from the placid and complacent folk that Setsushi met in the city, but... it also sounds rather frightening. And it explains why Shuuken would label Jilan a traitor -- not that she was just in doing so, he quickly adds, but from what he knows of the girl she is quick to take any possible hint of unkindness or disloyalty and blow it way out of proportion...
If Jilan hasn't been able to meet this Jin for years, Setsushi supposes there is little chance of Setsushi meeting him at all. But what about this Sorcerer friend of Shuuken, to whom she has become so strongly attached in a very short time...?
... Setsushi then suddenly apologizes. He is bombarding Jilan with questions and disturbing possibilities, and it would be unfair of him to demand answers from the scholar who is less familiar with the true Golden and Silver Worlds than Setsushi himself. Jilan is under no obligation to solve the Knights' and other others' problems, Setsushi hopes he understands.
And with that, he sets a tray of steaming noodles with egg and piled-on vegetables in front of him, giving him a weak but sincere smile. The tea will be a moment longer...

Jilan had never seen Jin do anyone any violence when he knew hir. But... he also admits that he still has no idea what sort of work sie does for the Empress.
As for Gan, friend of Princess Shuuken, Jilan admits he hardly knows anything about him. The little scholar never met him, and he does not recall Shuuken telling him much else. Except that she would die for him, he notes with perhaps a touch of ... disappointment?
Setting his journal on the table outside of broth-splashing range, the boy gives a smile that his projections do not seem to entirely support, and thanks the Knight sincerely for the meal. As he blows gently on the steaming broth, he insist that he does want to help, he is just not really sure what to do right now.
Jilan just thinks that learning magic seems like a sound course of action for now, while he is home in Gaia. Hopefully he will at least be stronger and be able to do more when he is in the Silver World, if he needs to do anything.

Jilan should not put himself under too much pressure to help, Setsushi tells him gently while bringing two cups of black tea to the table. Not even Kouyo, High Priest of Name, has been able to make much progress...
Setsushi settles into a chair across from Jilan, staring down into his drink. ... Ah, yes. What was it that Jilan wanted to see Kouyo about, anyway...? ... If Setsushi is allowed to pry.

The youth immediately brightens, and his smile becomes more genuine (between mouthfuls of noodles). High Priest Kouyo will be teaching little Jilan Porcelain magic. He has been studying why the magic works for three years, now, and the youth thinks that, at this point, he can benefit more from doing rather than just reading.
... He thought he could wait until after his Naming Ceremony to try, but maybe not sweatdrop

Ah... Setsushi believes he understands. Well, Setsushi is of Water also... but he supposes that he understands so little of his own magic, he would make a very poor substitute for Kouyo... sweatdrop
Well, Kouyo shouldn't be out too long. If Jilan has some free time, they could wait for him. Perhaps discuss frivolous things...
