Letting out a truly frightened wail when Tango slapped her, Evie nonetheless listened. It cut through the speeding tangle of her thoughts, her mind trying to understand.

She sobbed like a bereft child and her knees gave out from under her. She nodded, crying so hard she couldn't breathe.

"I'm sorry," she said, sincerity in every taut line of her body. "I'm so sorry I couldn't help them it must be my fault, I'm so ******** stupid, I should have known something was wrong they were just, just there for so long, I wanted to help so much I hate myself, I'm so sorry, so sorry!"

Evie's voice broke and she simply knelt on the floor, crying. It was a terrible, heartsick sound.

Her body crumbled but he held her wrist still and it disgusted him how similar the position was to two seconds ago when he shattered her other arm. Her arm was taut in his hold and her submissive body and all he had to do--

He turned his head to the side, letting go of her arm and emptied his stomach in the bush nearest to him. Well, the 2.25 for the coffee just went to waste.

He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, fully aware of the disgusting action but not really caring, either. As long as there wasn't vomit on his jacket later.

He turned back to the woman who didn't seem to notice he'd pulled away from her. Her cries no longer were nonsensical, just self loathing. He sighed and ran his hand through his hair, looking around them. His body no longer hummed with energy and he was just met with tired calmness that he found eerie. Other patrons watched with expressions he didn't care enough to decipher. They looked like they were all coiled to attack, as well. Just waiting for a signal to let loose on the person next to them.

Turning his attention back to the sobbing girl he left her side to go back to his table and picked up the napkins that the barista had given him with his drink. His steps back to her were slow and calculated. He didn't want to startle her, he was certain it would have repercussions.

Making it to her side took longer than he wanted it too, but eventually he crouched down next to her and moved the napkins in her line of sight. She wasn't a murderer and her broken arm nearly assured she wouldn't be any time soon. Right now she was a broken mother who's best friend was gone and who's daughter appeared to be, too. Two seconds ago she needed the snot beat out of her, now she needed the tears drained from her.

"It wasn't your fault."
It was pathetic. It was probably useless.

It was all he could offer.

Gasping for breath, shoulders shaking, Evie coughed and sniffed wetly. She felt so, so sick. The pain radiating up her arm wasn't helping, either. She looked at Tango with surprise, flinching away when he moved towards her. And then she noticed the napkins.

Heartsickness swept over her a second time. He was helping her. Just like Ana had tried to, for so long. God, she missed her so much. She missed being normal so much.

"T-t-tango," she said, taking the napkins clumsily and roughly wiping her face. "Please, p-please. T-take m-me to the hospital."

She looked up at him frankly, a surprising clarity in her face.

"I n-need help."

Yes. She did need help.

"I'll take you to the hospital." He agreed with a nod. And then, because he was still himself- and thereby a complete p***k, felt the need to lighten the air. Taking the snot and tear ridden napkins from her hands, he folded them carefully to avoid getting any body fluids on his hands and gave a quick swipe under her nose. "But I refuse to get snot all, blood, or tears all over my jacket, got it?"

He offered her a smirk to show he was just joking before taking her good arm under his shoulder and standing up, silently offering to take her weight from her.

With childlike obedience Evie nodded and leaned against him, head drooping with exhaustion. The sickness was abating a little, but not by much. She needed rest. And help.

"Thank you," she said, voice frail. "I'm sorry I hit you."

"You're welcome." He shrugged a little, adjusting her weight more comfortably against him and made his way to the hospital, non-too far from where they already were. "For what it's worth, I'm sorry you hit me, too." He attempted one more time to joke.

And then, as a side thought. "I'm sorry I broke your arm."

It didn't feel adequate, but it'd have to do.

Evie didn't catch the humor of Tango's sarcasm, though she did understand he wasn't angry with her. At least, she supposed so. Her head was buzzing in the aftermath of the initial breakdown, and her brief clarity was already slipping. It was frightening, like a maw opening up beneath her feet, and she clung very hard to Tango. She was tired, and scared, and she needed a stable place to just sit and sleep for a very, very long time. Her arm was really starting to hurt, too.

"...it's just an arm," she said belatedly. "I still have another one."

The hospital was a quicker walk than Evie had expected, with even quicker attention. Three steps into the foyer and the triage nurse at the desk was up and calling for assistance. Evie was overwhelmed by the sudden crowd around her and gave a small anxious shriek, burying her face against Tango's arm. It was too much, too loud. Her frayed nerves couldn't take even this well-meaning noise.

The teenager couldn't stop the light chuckle if he wanted too. "True, I suppose it's convenient that we have two arms." Just in case we get into scuffles and one decides it's imperative to strangle one- while the other finds it necessary to break aforementioned others arm. Hmm.

It didn't escape Tango's notice that the sound of the hosptial, once they arrived was too much for the woman he was escorting. Yet it still surprised him when she buried her face in his arm. Not entirely ******** sure what to do, Tango lifted his free hand and awkwardly petted down her hair. "It's alright. They are just gonna help." He offered lamely. What the hell else was he supposed to say. "They're gonna make you get better." He felt like he was talking to a five year old. ...Maybe, in some senses, he was.

Evie shuddered and flinched as the doctors and nurses gently removed her from Tango. She kept her head down and didn't speak when they asked her questions, shied away from them when they tried to touch her. But the doctors were patient, and very gently, they lead her away into the ER.

The triage nurse thanked Tango profusely for bringing the obviously disturbed, injured, malnourished girl in, claiming he must have the heart of a saint, and gave him a phone number should he wish to check on her and see how she was faring.

Of course, Tango would have little use for the phone number. Anastasia, on the other hand...

....provided he could find her, anyway.
