The beginning of the end?

I've decided that I needed a journal. Somewhere I can keep my personal thoughts and my not so personal reactions. Afterall, a great scientist needs to keep her thoughts nice and tidy. But then again, I'm not a great scientist...maybe one day I'll catch up to your glory Yue, maybe one day. It'll also help document my success and failures for future eyes to see. I'm not quite certain what this entails but hopefully it'll be nothing but good things but you can guarantee that I won't keep the bad from prying eyes.
So to celebrate my first entry, I'm going to cover this page with a bit more details than what I'd normally write. Sort of a hello to a future dear friend. I've never kept anything like this before so forgive me if I forget to write something in a few weeks. When I get involved with my work, it's hard to pull me away at times, even to eat. My parents used to scold me but I'm now old enough to make my own decisions. When my body refuses to function, it means it's time to relax and maybe put a few tons of ice cream in my system.
If you're curious, my birthday is May 14. I've never really liked the date, it's got nothing special in regards to numbers and it's right slab in the middle of May when the pollen is still polluting the sky. Hard to breath if you ask me. I'd prefer it if my birthday was more in the winter. Chill to the bone but at least there's not pesky bugs and the air isn't conjuring up a waterfall of snot.
I'm born into a family of three making me their fourth member. I had an older brother name Yue, his name means moon, one of the many things my mother adored. He was one of the top ranked scientists of his time but he vanished one day and never came back home. My parents were told by the officials that he committed suicide and my parents believed them. They obviously don't understand Yue's character, he would never commit suicide. He had a whole life of fame and fortune ahead of him not only because of his looks and charm but also his vast intelligence. By now that he's gone, I've got nothing left but look after his works. Maybe find out exactly what happened to him and how. Although the officials don't know, I've seen the crime scene. I won't go into more details here, it's not a necessity nor should it ever be public knowledge. All I can say is that I've lifted some evidence that might prove useful in the future.
I'm 21 years old this year, just finishing up my senior year of college and it's nice I got nabbed before I killed myself from shame. After four years of continuous hard work, I've managed to pull off another second place in grade points. Sometimes I wonder if Mark bribes the exam graders to rank me just slightly below him. But truth be told, I don't think he does. He is smart enough to outrank me any day. Yes, Mark Romearim. The smart, athletic, rich, and quite handsome valedictorian of our modest little graduating class. Just looking at him makes me want to barf my intestines out. He's of course no match for my brother if he was still alive. The guy's parents are head of one of Drente's many officials headquarters. They were also the ones who took away my parent's property declaring that we were housing fugitives of some sort of crime I do not know. In other words, my family is rather poor I had to pull my own weight to get into college. Luckily, it wasn't too much of a hassle as the majority of the application pool were idiots.
Well, now that I've got this job that I can't tell you much about, you'll just have to take my word on it that it's been my life's dream. Duke Banning I DeLonghy has taken me under his wing and I'll be eternally grateful. Never mention that to him or I'll die from embarrassment.
