The Meeting:

Tick wasn't having a great morning. First, the storm meant that she couldn't get a good night sleep. Second, the rain had washed away the last of her food cashes. Being a rather smart Vulpix, Tick decided to head to the nearby beach to she what she could scavenge before the sun rose and the larger predators woke up. Thankful that she was a fire pokemon she ran out onto the cold windy beach.

"Now let's see....wood, wood, plastic, eww, eww, plastic...." She kept up her running commentary only to be interrupted by a rustle from the tree line. Tick being a small pokemon out in the open, froze. Her tails twitched and her ears swivelled trying to identify the sound. When whatever had made the sound didn't appear she moved on. Hunger forcing her to keep looking for something to eat. Moving at a swift trot, Tick prayed she'd find something soon. The glow on the horizon meant that soon larger, and meaner pokemon would be coming.

"There has to be something here..." Trailing off, she saw something blue resting on a log. Whooping, she ran straight to it.

"It's been so long since I've had..." Approaching the fleshy object Tick knew something was wrong. She slowed her pace and felt her hair stand up. "It's an arm." Moving around the log, she realized that there was a body to go along with it. It was like nothing she had ever seen. It looked like a pokemon trying to be human. Curiosity getting the better of the small fire fox, Tick poked it with a paw.

No response. The flesh was smooth and hairless. It was almost as cold as the air around them. The creature looked waterlogged and bruised. The large purple splotches showing the rough ride it had taken in the storm. Looking at the head she saw that the mouth was open and full of sharp teeth. Then that's when she noticed...

The water rippled in front of the mouth. Thinking she had imagined it, Tick leaned closer, one ear focused on the creatures mouth. There was no mistaking it.

It was breathing.

Tick panicked. Something this large, with those sharp teeth was obviously a predator. She turned to run when she saw something in the sand half under the body.

It was a string of carved shells. She tugged on it to get a better look. It wouldn't give. Not one to give up, she put all her might into it. Just as the body shifted the cord snapped. Tick fell back, the string in her mouth. She looked at what it had been caught on.

"The other arm!" In her gasp she had dropped, what she now knew to be a bracelet. "Could this not be a predator? Might this be civilized creature?" It had been a long time since Tick had been with anyone civilized. Not since her parents...

Tick shook her head. The past was past. She had a choice to make. She looked at the bracelet. Then back at the creature. Her pulling on it seemed to have revived something and it started to shiver.

Tick sighed. "I hope I don't regret this." Gently climbing up on top of the creature's white chest, Tick spread out and focused all her energy building the fire within her body. Hunger made it hard to focus, but she knew from experience that she could go many days without food. All that mattered now was warmth. To build the warmth up and spread it throughout her body. To let it dissipate and be absorbed by the pale, shivering body beneath her. To become the very sun.

The real sun, not minding the impostor beneath it, slowly rose into the sky. Spreading it's light bringing warmth onto the spinning world below it.

The first thing she became aware of was warmth.
A wonderful warmth that spread from her breast.

Then she became aware of the cold.
A biting, crawling cold that seemed to try and smother the warmth.

Then she became aware of herself.
She felt like she was laying on sand. The smell of the salt spray in her nose, the sound of rolling water in her ears. There was also something heavy on her chest. Warm but heavy. Shifting, her arms long gone numb, she tried to open her salt encrusted eyes.

"Hey, woah!" Tick caught herself from falling of the slowly warming body. "Careful now, you've been out for a while."

Looking at the little creature on her chest, she could start to feel panic build up. She instinctively tried to move away from it, but couldn't get her sore, waterlogged limbs to work. She fell back to the sand, fear in her eyes.

Tick not able to keep her balance on the now rapidly moving body jumped off. She wasn't sure if it was trying to get her until she looked up at it. Her, and somehow Tick realized it was a her, eyes were full of fear. It was obvious though that she wasn't up to the task of moving. Tick stayed very still.
"Easy now, I'm just trying to help."

"What," she started, her dry mouth sounding thick, "what are you?"

Tick almost laughed. "I'm a Vulpix! What are you!"

"Vul, Vulpix?" It seemed her brain hadn't fully started up yet. Although she did manage to pull her long legs in and sit up against the log.

This time Tick tillted her head to the side. "Did you hit your head in the storm?" She had heard about what happens to creatures that hid there heads bad. Sometimes, they don't make it.

Reflexively putting a clawed hand on her smooth, horned head, she closed her eyes. "I, I don't know." She shook her head. "I was getting water...the wave came..." She looked down at the strange furry creature that was talking to her. Wait. It was talking to her! She put her hand back on her head suddenly not feeling well, "Maybe I did hit my head."

Tick noticed that she was starting to look green. Not just sick looking but actually green! "Are you okay?"

"I, I don't feel so well." The world seemed to spin and the ground shifted. She felt like she was going to explode! She leaned over the log and out came all the sea water she had drank during the storm.

Her mother had alway told her not to drink the sea water as a kit. And this was a very good reason why. Tick moved closer, becoming concerned when it didn't seem to end.

Her throat and lungs burned with the effort of purging so much of the sea from her body. After what seemed like an eternity, it was finally over. Spitting once more, she wiped her mouth with her arm and turned back to the strange creature. Sighing, and coughing a little, she looked back down at it. Surprised to see what looked like concern on it's tiny face.

Tick was so relived that the creature was alright that she jumped up into her lap. "Are you going to be okay?"

Startled, she jumped when the Vulpix landed in her lap. "I hope so." She touched it. It was softer than her mothers finest cloth. And warm, so warm. "Are you real?" It was becoming harder for her to believe that she was still sleeping. Everything was starting to feel too real.

The Vulpix pressed her head against the blue hand. Tick was surprised by the question. "Are you?" She replied. Not sure what kind of answer she was expecting.

She started to pet the small Vulpix, somehow not surprised at it's response. Something suddenly occurred to her. "Do you have a name?"

"Mn, 's Tick" The stroking was so hypnotic. So soothing. She was starting to forget where she was.

"Tick?" She stopped her petting. "Do you know where there is any water? I'm so thirsty."

She snapped back to reality when the hand stopped. "There is water not to far from here. Do you think you can walk?"

"I will for water." She slowly managed to get to her feet. "Lead the way Tick."

Tick walked ahead a little, "What's your name?" She looked up at the imposingly tall figure.

"Raieth, my name is Raieth."

The bruised

Raieth and Tick had built a shelter close to a spring of water in a forest next to a human town. Far enough from the town that they weren't likely to be found, but close enough that could go there for help if they had to.

On a regular foraging trip on day, they found evidence of a fight.

"What do you think it is?" Raieth said touching the claw marks on the ground.

Tick sniffed on of the scratches. "I'm not sure, more than one pokemon though." Tick sniffed the air, "They went this way."

Raieth followed a cautious Tick, her eyes scanning everywhere. "It seems the fight is getting worse." She traced the claw marks on the trees and rocks as they went past them.

Tick stopped. "I hear something." Her ears swiveled. "I think they are just up ahead.

Together Raieth and Tick crept forward around a large tree.

Gah this keyboard is to hard to type on. Continued later!
