Well, if Lytah ever had another clutch----correction: if she ever had a clutch where C’ym could find it----he knew what to do with at least one of the eggs. Since Lytah had all of the mothering instincts of a brick and about the same sense as one when it came to picking out nesting places, it was more likely that she would lay her eggs right in front of a hungry tunnelsnake.

It would never cease to surprise C’ym how weyrfolk-----and Holders who lived nearby Weyrs----could accept some things so easily. Like La casually remarking about her mother’s night of fun after a Hatching. It was easy to see how it could happen and all. The Hatching Feasts were always a time of celebration and alcohol naturally came with celebrations, but it was still strange to hear it mentioned so lightly.

“I think you’d make a good Healer, especially with Isonth here. She could keep the dragons calm and you could try to keep the people from panicking,” he said. As for his own life… well, he had to pause to think about it, which is never a good sign. “Well, it’s like this, alright? My parents had a lot of siblings. And they couldn’t support us all. I mean, we’re well-off, but not that well-off. So my brothers and I were sent to live with my uncle in a minor Hold. My uncle is a Lord Holder, you see, so he needed more hands around the place. I had always hoped to grow up to be like him but, when I realized that wasn’t possible, I decided that getting a cothold wouldn’t be too bad. But I also realized that wasn’t likely either, since I’m the youngest male in the family. My brothers and cousins would get such things before me. So I decided to try and become a dragonrider. My parents got me Lytah to try and distract me from it.” He grinned. “Clearly, it didn’t work very well. This was going to be my last Hatching, I think.”

Ok… C’ym seemed alright now. I don’t mind the little flitters. Well, at least I don’t mind Lytah. I don’t think she would care if I did mind though… she’s older than me, but she’s a lot dumber, he confided in Isonth. They’re cute and fun to watch. Is that why Yours wants one?

It seemed a little odd that Yansanth would want a flitter, but the idea was firmly engrained in Han’s mind now. He would find her something, at least. Something small and… and cute! Preferably fluffy as well. His mind eventually traveled to the wherries that the dragons ate. Hey, what about those… umm… you know. The things with the wings and the feet?

"Thank you," La said graciously, smiling when C'ym mentioned Isonth's possible talents with other dragons. "She is very motherly...and I think dragonhealing will be easier with her keeping everyone calm." C'ym's description of his family was fun (she rather liked hearing others' life-stories), and La listened, occasionally nodding at his comments and "hmm"ing at what she assumed would be the right moments.

It was interesting, hearing that this boy had, like her, had grown up holdborn. And had led actually a very interesting life. His parents hadn't wanted him to be a dragonrider? That was the key detail setting him apart from her, she supposed. "Heh, you ran off to the Weyr, huh?" she asked. "I'll admit, when I was Searched, it was right before I was to go off and take my healercraft apprenticeship. Mum basically had to tie me to the dragon."

I don't know why mine wants one. I think it is because they are little and she likes looking at them, Isonth said thoughtfully. Maybe because so many of the others have them, too. Flocks of flitters, she added, delighting in the words.

Snacks? She asked delightedly at Han's description, immediately derailed from her original train of thought. Generally, Mine calls them snacks....the little delicious ones, yes? Isonth might not remember names, but she certainly remembered flavours, and the savory taste of wherry-meat was rich in her mouth as she thought about the animals the bronze had described. La, finding her stomach rumbling even as her dragon worked herself into a furious hunger, frowned slightly and tapped more into Isonth's thoughts.

They're called wherries, love, she remarked, and Isonth looked at her, rumbling happily.

Wherries, yes! she said brightly. Not snacks, she added thoughtfully, looking at Han and then nodding. They are delicious...but aren't they food? I don't think you can have food and a pet at the same time... She shook her head slowly before looking back to Han. After all, we couldn't eat the little flitters, because ours would be upset with us. If we didn't eat the wherry-snacks, would ours be upset with us, too?
