David Tennant will always be better but I think Matt Smith would be alright.

I wonder what kind of personality Matt Smith will act out as the 11th Doctor.

The poor kid has a TON to live up to, I think he sort of knows what he's got himself into, but not REALLY.
He's gotta be just as good or better than Tennant. Now that's a big responsibility. Not to mention that he has to deal with the eccentric dress. (Even though Ten picked his own costume, I doubt Matt would be given the same priveledge. I could be wrong, though)
I just hope Ten's send off is epic...

Richard_Swift goddess_oraorchid Oh and is it me or is the doctor getting younger and younger every generation*awaits the 18 years old final regeneration XD* Seems appropriate. It's part of the legend that Merlin aged backwards... Fantasy_of_Strange_Things Why is he getting so much criticism? He's got a weird-shaped head. Sometimes these things have simple answers. So true, so true

Matt Smith looks more like he belongs in Edward's role of Twilight. He just has the perfect complexion, thin, oddly shaped head that belongs to a blood sucker. Will he live up to David Tennant's legacy as doctor? Hell no. Will he make his own? He might. My guess is, that after Davie's gone, ratings are going to go way down and Matt will be booted within 2 seasons. At the most. But, hey, call me a pessimist. I am looking forward to the new companion, though. Thank god Donna won't be returning. Anyone is better than annoying, bratty Donna.

Okay. I have had enough. I agree that David Tennant is a Good Doctor. But STOP RAGGING ON MATT SMITH. Like Come on you Little David Tennant Fangirls/Boys. If he is the only reason you like doctor who then you cannot call your self a real fan. If you complain about the fact that The Doctor is being replaced and make wiled Accusations about how much he sucks you are not a real fan. I am sorry but That is how I feel about this. Honestly Suck it up it is a show that involves Regeneration You didn't make a big fuss over Chris Leaving (9th Doctor) SO SHUT UP. I am sorry if I offended any one but Jez knock it off.

^ Please don't tell other people to shut up on this forum. It's the job of the moderators to let people know if they're crossing the line.
I think people who criticize Matt Smith before seeing what his portrayal of the Doctor is actually like are being a bit silly, but after a while you just come to expect this every time you get a new Doctor. I remember back when Tennant was first announced as the 10th Doctor, one guy on the Outpost Gallifrey Forums said he thought Tennant looked like a 'weasel'. I'm pretty sure that wasn't intended as a compliment...

I appolgise for being so flippant but I Am a True fan of Doctor Who. Even though I disliked the 9th Doctor at the same time I liked him because he was the Doctor. But people that get hung up on people who are becoming the Doctor get hung up that the Doctor they watched (and for the fan girls want to have who arnt real fans they just like David) Leaving. Honsetly I hate that. It is what I like to Call Fanboy Rage. Because I am a Fan boy Of DOCTOR WHO as a whole. I guess I should take a lesson out of the Spaced Handbook (Another British TV show) That I shouldn't defend the show with such strong words and just let them have there opinion.

Yeah, well, the thing is I'm sure that like you said, there's a contingent of people who started watching Doctor Who just because of David Tennant (fangirls... or boys... like Captain Jack, we don't discriminate whee ). And maybe some of these people don't want to continue now that Tennant's leaving. Okay, fine, if they don't think they'll like the show with a different lead actor, that's up to them. Hopefully some of them will stick around and give Matt Smith a chance. I know I will (but I've been following the show since the Davison era).
As for your talk about what it means to be a 'true fan', I don't believe that you need to like all aspects of Doctor Who to be considered a fan of the show. Do I have to blindly agree with John Nathan-Turner's decision to put Colin Baker in that atrocious multicolored coat in order to be a 'true fan'? It was awful, and even Colin himself has stated (in more graceful terms) that he wasn't exactly thrilled with the costume he got stuck with. The people that make Doctor Who aren't infallible. Sometimes they make crappy decisions, too.

Fourscarf I was always under the impression that he seems to be getting younger every time because when his body wears out, it changes into a body that's younger and healthier than the previous one. That's kind of strange considering William Hartnell regenerated into Patrick Troughton who regenerated into Jon Pertwee, who IMO looked a lot older then the 2nd Doctor.

I think the casters know what there doing. They wouldn't hire someone who didn't know what they were doing. Probably won't be as good as tennant but still good.
