Surprisingly, all Delilah did in response to his acronym was smile sweetly. "Alright, Cascati," she answered readily. "You're probably right on this one. We don't want something that eats itself up in ruffles. That would be... disgusting. We'll keep it simple and sleek and elegant." She nodded at him. "Maybe like your wings."

"Uh," said the gargoyle, and he hesitated a look at his wings -- "hey. Thanks."
God, that was awkward. The awkward spread out before them like a slippery, buttery blot in the conversation; why was he so bad at taking compliments. He stared at her for a long time, and then did his default; took his sunglasses out his pocket and slipped them into his hair, which looked hopelessly affected but at least ate up the silence.
"So," he said, "that's our topic? Cool?" (Still sounding lame.)

"Very cool," she answered in a teasing mimic of his tones. She smiled a bit more brightly as if she knew and understood his reaction but let it go. "I think I should probably warn you, though. I never take less than the best. I don't think you should either, hm?"

His eyebrow ridges shot up, but he regained his composure yet again. "Me too," said Casca, and he flipped his sunglasses down onto his face despite the fact that it was 1:30 PM in the afternoon. He relaxed back into his chair, opening his Bic by slashing it into his chest and scribbling on the write-up. "Guess I'll take my lead from you there, won't I," and wrote in print: SHEET MUSIC.
Everyone else was still milling around looking lost and pretty pathetic, and for a moment he worried that having theirs done already was a little loserly: but then he chirped, reckless, "Let's go print it out from the library, we'll ask Mrs. C," and was already leaping up from his position of boneless lethargy to stand. He offered his hand to her as well, and that was that -- no going back then.
At least this was a class where he actually wanted an A.
