Guro Merry-go-round is the perfect name! A friend of mine is starting a goth and punk brand, maybe I can pitch her the skeletal carousel pony as a print design. Funny enough, another friend of mine just started a sweet brand [she's one of the girls who runs Mashimaro Girl, they're releasing their first printed JSK this summer].

That. Is ...so awesome! ;o;
I love merry-go-round themed anythings so if she did make anything with it (expecially a jsk lol) I would buy it in a heartbeat @w@

Thats so cool that she's starting her own brand. I'd love to-but I can only draw up designs. My sewing skills leave a lot to be desired xDDD

She's actually not a seamstress, either. XD
A friend is making up the sample pieces, then a factory will be producing the actual dresses for sale. I'm really hoping it's a success, since some of her plans sound amazing.

Ok, sorry.

I avoid drama like the plague.
But it seems extremists of any fashion are going to be that way.

I can see a classic lolita shift, though I can also see sweet lolita sticking around, it just won't be in the spotlight anymore. Most of the girls who are less attached to the lolita fashion won't be putting much effort into making a good classic lolita outfit, because I think it takes more consideration (and/or money) to keep an outfit from looking cheap.

While avoiding drama's a good thing, in the lolita communities it's so prevalent that it's hard to escape unfortunately. It's also a good idea to at least keep up on some of it if you're active in buying and selling, since the drama/wank communities tend to be the first ones to catch shady sellers, shops and the like. They get out of hand sometimes, but they're pretty useful for a lot of things.

Also, I'm curious about what you mean about less effort in classic lolita outfits? You mean that they won't care as much since it requires more attention to details than sweet? Or ..? I think I'm misunderstanding the post!

Personally, I think classic requires equal amounts of attention to details as any other style. Lolita's very complex, very intricate, and requires delicate handling regardless of which subset you're working in.

I mean, a large majority of girls who dress 'lolita' just wear it because they saw it in a manga or magazine and thought 'oh that's cute'. I just doubt that majority is going to make the change to a more conservative lolita style. It's easy for those kinds of girls to get a cute dress, add some lace and cover it in bows, to call it lolita. Just from the styles I've seen, sweet lolita is more of a general style than Classic.
This is just my opinion based on my experiences with other lolitas okay? I'm not trying to re-write your rules or anything.
Jesus, I suck at explaining myself.

I'm not trying to force rules or opinions on you, either. ^^;
I just wondered why that was your viewpoint in terms of which would be easier.

You know, I kind of want to draw a gothic carousel print now, with a super elabroate, skeletal carousel pony. Hrm. Tempting, temping.

That would be gorgeous! I appreciate great fabric prints biggrin

I'm kind of new to Lolita and this is really old, but I'll post anyway. Yeah after doing a lot of research and just window web shopping the last few days I'm having a hard time finding anything that's not sweet lolita. Plus most of the stuff that I see as being passed as gothic looks kind of sweet in black to me....like heart shapes.....on the dress and lots of white lace and bows.....not really like the pictures that were posted of true gothic lolita. It's kind of a shame since sweet lolita is nice but, I preffer the other style more, it's less over-powering to me.

Have you had a look here:

I really hate the site colour scheme though since dark blue on black isn't the easiest to read.

This dress from them looks really cute:

Not that I would ever spend that much money on a dress though biggrin

Look through old G&L bibles?

And if you like more gothic, simple-but-elegant stuff I would recommend Moi Meme Moitie.
Expensive, but no layers of rainbow ruffles/bows on bows xD

I believe that no sub-style will "die out", but as Goth-Lolita was the big fad in the past, and now Sweet-Loli is. I saw sweet-loli and I do not like it, as I still look like a little girl, so wearing dresses like that is just kind of too much for me, I prefer Classic or Guro. I believe the ribbons and lace will die down a tad and go into more mature forms such as Classic. I am soo hoping Guro comes into style too razz It's absolutely breaktaking when done right.

I'm a bit different in that way I like Sax blue and black, ALMOST everything I own is Sax blue and black. Even he non-lolita clothes.

Sweet I like, but it doesn't suit me. I tend to wear goth classic and goth.
But I don;t think I could ever be a sweet lolita

My prediction for the future of lolita fashion in japan is that there will be alot more decora influence. Like deco alice a la mode.

Ive gone from hard core gothic lolita to sweet to what ever i do now sweatdrop

I love lolita. I love sweet, gothic, classic, casual, punk, deco, and all in between. I make my own clothes so i like to take influences from all the sub groups to form a super lolita crazy muffin. Like for example something i would find apealing would be like a pink coffin with a gloomy bear paw sticking out of the top. That would be awsome. Mabye with some blood on the claw to give it some contrast.

Old school lolita is still cool in my book but i love the new stuff just as much.

I think people when comming into anything for the first time don't like to pick parts of the trend they have seen a million times. The gothic style has been seen so many times that newcommers to the lolita fashion might not be interseted in it because it is no longer unique. Lolita also, in my opinion, attracks a certian personality and that personality may clash with what people believe is gothic. I think its just cloths and I'm a happy gothic lolita, but lame poser goths have told me that a goth ought to be emo basically.
As for the constant battle between goth v. sweet, its retarded. Your all following the same basic trend/lifestyle girls suck it up and get along. Sweet lolita is adorable, not on me, but on others its so cute.

I want Pirate to be the next craze! >w< Alice and the Prates has wonderful ideas for their clothing, fun prints too.

Good news gals. I'm working with Mashimaro Girl now, and the owner is investing in my designs. That means ... I'll be launching my own brand. The first dress has been sent for production and is a fusion of gothic lolita and classical styles. The next will be more classic, and the winter release I have planned will be the gothic carousel horse I discussed before. ;D
